[Bug 776435] Re: Window maximizes on the wrong workspace

2012-11-15 Thread MC Return
On a dual monitor setup (Monitor 1: 1920x1200, Monitor 2: 1280x1024) a window
will maximize correctly via grid on the small monitor if it's x-size is lower
than 2459 pixel, but larger than the bigger monitor's x-resolution (1920).
-> see also bug 751605 and the proposed solution
https://code.launchpad.net/~vanvugt/compiz/fix-751605/+merge/134404 for it to
understand why the windows x-size needs to be larger than Monitor1's
x-resolution.

Once the window is resized to 2460 pixel and maximized on the smaller
resolution monitor (2) via grid on viewport 1 it will jump to monitor 2 on
viewport 2.
Resizing the window to x>2461 pixel and repeating the maximizing via grid on
viewport 1 it will jump to Monitor 1 (the large-resolution one) on viewport 2.

This is 100% reproducable every time.

Solution:
We should never move windows across viewports when we maximize a window. Any
objections ?

[Bug 1011388] Re: Network disconnects and needs rf-kill bit switched after plugging / unplugging power cord

2012-11-15 Thread Matt
To pad out the bug description a little more, the laptop will 100%
reliably DROP network link any time you either connect, or disconnect
the mains power cord. Sometimes it will reestablish link, sometimes it
won't and will require a hard wifi toggle via keyboard hotkeys.

dmesg contains output like:

[205678.104200] iwlwifi :02:00.0: RF_KILL bit toggled to enable radio.
[205678.138464] iwlwifi :02:00.0: L1 Disabled; Enabling L0S
[205678.138867] iwlwifi :02:00.0: Radio type=0x1-0x2-0x0
[205678.191177] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
[205684.603371] wlan0: authenticate with 1c:af:f7:43:23:bc
[205684.605213] wlan0: send auth to 1c:af:f7:43:23:bc (try 1/3)
[205684.607126] wlan0: authenticated
[205684.607442] wlan0: associating with AP with corrupt beacon
[205684.610665] wlan0: associate with 1c:af:f7:43:23:bc (try 1/3)
[205684.614513] wlan0: RX AssocResp from 1c:af:f7:43:23:bc (capab=0xc31
status=0 aid=3)
[205684.618736] wlan0: associated
[205684.619216] IPv6: ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): wlan0: link becomes ready

..during each plug/unplug event.

After using the workarounds in this bug no such messages appear, even
though the power save state of the device has changed as normal.

Pure speculation on my part, but it seems that the driver issues a brief
flip of the rfkill bit when you ask it to change the power state this
way. I would call that a driver bug, not a pm-utils bug. Other than
this the driver is rock solid stable and performs well.

This issue doesn't occur in Windows.

[Bug 1070150] Re: Intermittent low graphics mode with Intel HD graphics

2012-11-15 Thread AnAkIn
I have exactly the same issue since upgrading to Ubuntu 12.10, but it happens
like 1 out of 10 boots. I don't have a SSD.
I do get an other similar issue though, which is probably related, lightdm
doesn't seem to start at all, the screen stays black. That issue seem to happen
a lot more. Seem to be similar to #9.
I currently don't have any logs as I didn't get it on my last boots, will
upload once it happens again.

[Bug 1067554] Re: Update to 2.6.1.

2012-11-15 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Luke, or anyone else affected,

Accepted at-spi2-core into quantal-proposed. The package will build now
and be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/at-
spi2-core/2.6.1-0ubuntu0.1 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please change the bug tag from
verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not, change the
tag to verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing
will help us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification .  Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 978895] Re: Checkbox Should Not Use gconfsink for Sound

2012-11-15 Thread Daniel Manrique
Trying this in a VM with Precise (12.04.1). First I removed
gstreamer0.10-gconf. This also removed a couple other packages:

The following packages will be REMOVED:
  gnome-media gstreamer0.10-gconf ubuntu-desktop

The pretest gives the expected result:
$ gst-launch-0.10 "audiotestsrc ! audioconvert ! audioresample ! gconfaudiosink"
WARNING: erroneous pipeline: no element "gconfaudiosink"

With checkbox 0.13.7:

# dpkg --list checkbox*
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name   VersionDescription
+++-==-==-
ii checkbox 0.13.7 System testing application
un  checkbox-gtk(no description available)
ii checkbox-qt0.13.7 QT4 interface for checkbox

I launched checkbox-qt, deselected all tests, selected only the audio
category with 4 tests, and selected "start testing".

audio/alsa_record_playback_external: I was able to hear my own recording (I
think this test is not affected).
audio/alsa_record_playback_usb: I was able to hear my own recording (I think
this test is not affected). I "cheated" because I didn't connect a USB device,
but for the purposes of this validation it's OK.
audio/alsa_record_playback_internal: I was able to hear my own recording (I
think this test is not affected).
audio/playback_auto : This didn't output any audio and popped up an apport
warning about gst_pipeline_test having failed. Traceback as follows:
 Traceback (most recent call last):
   File "/usr/share/checkbox/scripts/gst_pipeline_test", line 38, in
 sys.exit(main(sys.argv[1:]))
   File "/usr/share/checkbox/scripts/gst_pipeline_test", line 27, in main
 element = gst.parse_launch(pipeline)
 GError: no element "gconfaudiosink"

OK, then I upgraded to checkbox 0.13.8 from proposed:

#  dpkg --list checkbox*
Desired=Unknown/Install/Remove/Purge/Hold
| Status=Not/Inst/Conf-files/Unpacked/halF-conf/Half-inst/trig-aWait/Trig-pend
|/ Err?=(none)/Reinst-required (Status,Err: uppercase=bad)
||/ Name   VersionDescription
+++-==-==-
ii checkbox 0.13.8 System testing application
un  checkbox-gtk(no description available)
ii checkbox-qt0.13.8 QT4 interface for checkbox

I relaunched checkbox and selected only audio/playback_auto. This time
the test produced some audio (a nasty beep) and I didn't get any apport
reports.

I'll set this to verification-done.

[Bug 1011388] Re: Network disconnects and needs rf-kill bit switched after plugging / unplugging power cord

2012-11-15 Thread Matt
Plus one. I've had this on both 2530p and 6930p HP Elitebooks, on various
kernel / Ubuntu versions for the last year or so. No big surprise, they're both
the same chipset.
In fact you can fix the problem just by commenting out the "Wireless" case in
the main pci_devices script in /usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/pci_devices. I didn't
spend much more time on this other than to verify that this is a reliable fix
for a rather irritating little problem.

[Bug 1078407] Re: pdc fakeraid not recognized

2012-11-15 Thread Guido van Loon
It seems that I'm unable to get your patch by using the commands that
you gave me. I have ran the commands in a terminal window after I booted
my machine with the work around.

I was able to add the repository but apt-get update did not list your
repository (anything with psusi)) among all the others.
apt-get upgrade did do a lot of stuff because this was a first time. But i'm
not sure your fix was among the many things that got installed. I didn't see
your repository uri (http://ppa.launchpad.net/psusi/ppa/ubuntu) anywhere in the
output.

It is blkid that you've patched, correct?
blkid still does not output anything when I run it.
blkid -v shows me "blkid from util-linux 2.20.1 (libblkid 2.20.0, 19-Oct-2011)"

The computer still does not start without me running dmraid -ay manually

I'm sorry. What is it that I do wrong? How do I get your patch
installed?

I looked at dialog.cpp: I added the patch 'if (wxOpenModalDialogsCount)
return(0);' at the beginning of ShowModal() and this effectively stops
duplicate dialogs being issued from the menu. It does not stop issuing
wxMessageBox when a dialog is displayed though.

I dont know what to look for otherwise in this file.

[Bug 1079355] Re: unable to install libcairo2:i386 on 12.10 x86_64

2012-11-15 Thread Micah Gersten
Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does
not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to
a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you
are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are
having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if
you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#When%20not%20to%20file%20a%20bug.
There is also a vibrant support community available at
http://askubuntu.com and you might consider asking your question there.

for what it's worth, I was able to install this package in a clean
chroot. I also had it installed on my quantal amd64 system.

[Bug 1079359] Re: 3.2.0-32 drops huawei modem

2012-11-15 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 976124] Re: lightdm multiseat: no login possible

2012-11-15 Thread mark
@Sebastien
"not sure how important that sort of multiseat configs are..."

May I ask for clarification on that pls? Especially on the "that sort
of..." bit. I think we're all just after a multi-user system (with one
computer and multiple terminals) and all users have to login with a
password via LightDM. Is there some other way of achieving this on
Ubuntu then?

Tks in advance.

[Bug 395919] Re: network manager takes long time to connect then connection drops - ath9k

2012-11-15 Thread Rafael Paim
I have a laptop Acer Aspire Timeline 48140T with this bug.
I've been using ubuntu since 10.04 and after the ubuntu 12.04.1 update, the
wifi does not work properly.
after 2 or 3 minutes, the wireless connects and disconnects, the touchpad stops
to work, and it seems to hang the system.

I used the line command 'lshw -c network' and it says that the wireless
interface is from a "Ilegal Vendor ID". When the wireless is working,
instead of Ilegal Vendor ID, it shows the name of the manufacturer,
Atheros.

I attached some lines of the system log to help to identificate the problem.
I tried to boot using the live CD. With ubuntu 12.04 or lower, i dont
experience this problem. When i boot with 12.04.1 the problem happens again.

I also installed the wicd, as in some asnwers in Ask Ubuntu website, but
I couldnot be able to solve the problem.

Thanks for your help.
Rafael Paim

[Bug 751701] Re: network_check crashed with InvalidURL in _set_hostport(): nonnumeric port: ' text'

2012-11-15 Thread Daniel Manrique
Hi,

I took a system with checkbox 0.13.7, and ran the command given in the test
section, I get this:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/share/checkbox/scripts/network_check", line 64, in
sys.exit(main())
  File "/usr/share/checkbox/scripts/network_check", line 40, in main

  File "/usr/share/checkbox/scripts/network_check", line 17, in check_url

  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib2.py", line 126, in urlopen
return _opener.open(url, data, timeout)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib2.py", line 400, in open
response = self._open(req, data)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib2.py", line 418, in _open
'_open', req)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib2.py", line 378, in _call_chain
result = func(*args)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib2.py", line 1207, in http_open
return self.do_open(httplib.HTTPConnection, req)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/urllib2.py", line 1146, in do_open
h = http_class(host, timeout=req.timeout) # will parse host:port
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/httplib.py", line 693, in __init__
self._set_hostport(host, port)
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/httplib.py", line 721, in _set_hostport
raise InvalidURL("nonnumeric port: '%s'" % host[i+1:])
httplib.InvalidURL: nonnumeric port: ' text'

Then I installed checkbox 0.13.8 from -proposed, ran the same command. I
get nothing on the command line, and a small window pops up indicating
the http connection failed (understandably, since the proxy is
purposefully invalid). This is the correct behavior as indicated by the
test case.

Just for kicks, I then set a valid proxy and ran with both checkbox
0.13.7 and checkbox 0.13.8. In both cases it said the connection failed,
but that's because the URL they are trying to load no longer exists (see
https://launchpad.net/bugs/1065855). This issue is orthogonal to the
current bug; I manually modified the network_check script to point to a
valid URL, and then it works fine (says HTTP Connection: Success). So
the proposed fix is working as expected.

I'll mark verification-done based on the above.

[Bug 979003] Re: libc incorrectly detects AVX support

2012-11-15 Thread Brian Murray
Hello Chris, or anyone else affected,

Accepted eglibc into lucid-proposed. The package will build now and be
available at

[Bug 1079358] Re: 'needs-root' in combination with 'build-needed' unpacks code and runs build as root

2012-11-15 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
A simple work-around is for build-needed to set DEB_BUILD_OPTION=nocheck
And the unit-tests need to be run as autopkgtest job.

Also the root & non-root tests should be split into separate paragraphs
in the autopkgtest, if that allows specifying different constraints.

[Bug 1011733] Re: The lock screen shortcut doesn't update when its value is changed in dconf

2012-11-15 Thread Charles Kerr
This is happening because of the way DBusMenu implements its menuitems.

GtkMenuItem is a GtkBin, and gtk's menuitem.c adds a single child, a
GtkAccelLabel (which is a private Gtk class). DBusMenu wants the single
child to be a container, so it reparents that GtkAccelLabel into an hbox
and sets the hbox as the single child. (see genericmenuitem.c's
set_label()).

Unfortunately, this breaks Gtk's gtkmenuitem.c's
gtk_menu_item_sync_action_properties() function, which only updates the
GtkAccelLabel's properties if the GtkAccelLabel is still the direct
child of the menuitem.

It looks like there's some precedent in gtkmenuitem.c to look harder for
the Accel Label if the menuitem'c child is a container. This is what's
done in gtk_menu_item_accel_width_foreach() as a part of determining the
menuitem's preferred width for gtk_menu_item_get_preferred_width().

Maybe a similar patch would be accepted upstream for
gtk_menu_item_sync_action_properties(). I haven't tested such a patch,
but I think it would resolve this bug.

The point of the separated package is to allow Kubuntu to ship the KCM

recommends by default suggests is the relationship of choice.

Maybe insufficient power causes some of the problems?
My Iomega prestige external harddrive gives the following in dmesg when
connected to a USB3.0 port in Ubuntu 12.10:

structures
  [26066.041575] hub 4-0:1.0: couldn't allocate port 2 usb_device

However, there is an extra USB connector on the cable that can also be
plugged in for extra power. With that, the drive works fine with USB
3.0. (Connected to a USB 2.0 port, it works fine even without the extra
power).

[Bug 16492] Re: Mouse pointer should disappear when keyboard is in use and mouse isn't

2012-11-15 Thread David Gomes
I really dislike it when my mouse disappears, I like to know where it is
if I have to pick it up while writing. For example, while writing this
comment I could have the need to check my email or IRC. I do feel it'd
be great as an option though.

[Bug 1075976] Re: test-suite fails in autopkgtest environment

2012-11-15 Thread James Hunt
Responding to my comments in #1...

1) Resolved (aka "worked around")

My lp:~jamesodhunt/ubuntu/raring/upstart/autopkgtest branch now runs
both make_check and user_session tests successfully.

However, I had to throw sacrificial chickens through flaming hoops to
get this to work (although it's very simple when you do work out what's
happening ;-). autopkgtest could be changed to remove the need for
flaming hoops, chickens and sharp knives. See bug 1079358.

2) Red herring.

3) New Ubuntu Upstart release, including these changes is currently
being prepared, so fixed.

4) Red herring.

[Bug 1079367] [NEW] Can not change username on login if typed wrong

2012-11-15 Thread Wes James
Public bug reported:

When logging in, if you type the wrong username, you can not go back and
change it. You are only presented with a password prompt. This is
with:

greeter-hide-users=true

in

/etc/lightdm/lightdm.conf

The only way I could find to get around it (and ubuntu-users list) is to

ctrl-alt-f1
login
sudo service lightdm restart

Here is some info:

1) The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'lsb_release -rd' or System
-> About Ubuntu

lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS
Release:12.04

2) The version of the package you are using, via 'apt-cache policy
pkgname' or by checking in Software Center

$ apt-cache policy lightdm-gtk-greeter
lightdm-gtk-greeter:
  Installed: 1.1.5-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 1.1.5-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 1.1.5-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

3) What you expected to happen

Should get username and password login fields to type in

4) What happened instead

Only get password field to type in

thanks

wes

[Bug 893851] Re: Brightness adjustment gauge in gnome-control-center screen not responding to brightness hot-keys

2012-11-15 Thread Matt Fischer
To compile that test code I posted:

gcc dbus-test.c -o dbus-test `pkg-config --libs --cflags gio-2.0
gtk+-3.0 dbus-glib-1 dbus-1`

Then ./dbus_test to run it.
