[Bug 772709] Re: Network Manager Icon Is not changin when VPN is connected (nm-device-wired-secure icon is missing)

2012-11-28 Thread rjarvis2010
Here they are. Hope they're useful to somebody. If anybody finds this
and wants to implement it themselves (rather than wait for the package),
you can create a new theme as described above and untar the archive from
the root icon directory (/usr/share/icons//).

[Bug 1084223] Re: No on board sound in Ubuntu 12.04

2012-11-28 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.7 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
"Confirmed".

Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1084228] [NEW] Application windows switch is not working with 'always on top' option active

2012-11-28 Thread Andrew Grabko
Public bug reported:

Say we have 2 windows of the same application (same unity icon) opened.
The first is with 'Always On Top' option active, the second is not.
If there is any third arbitrary window overlapping the second, then clicking on
the application icon or using 'Super+N' to trigger switching between
application windows will not work.

Same as Clayton Dillard described. However, it affects not just the VPN

visible on hover over (only a section of the submenu can be seen. ).

[Bug 959037] Re: NM-controlled dnsmasq prevents other DNS servers from starting

2012-11-28 Thread John Hupp
Thanks for the explanation of how removal of /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-
manager sets up a conflict between standalone dnsmasq and NM-dnsmasq.
(But also see my surprising observation below.)

>> Should this conflict be manifesting itself somehow?
>> Everything seems to be working right now.

>Well, I am not sure which workaround, if any, you are currently relying
on.

>If you commented out "dns=dnsmasq" in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf then there is no conflict
because NM doesn't start the NM-dnsmasq process.

My workaround was simply to remove /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager.
Everything seemed to work after that.

I did not comment out "dns=dnsmasq" in
/etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf, which apparently should have
subjected the system to the conflict described above. But as I say, I
saw no problems. Could this be due to some compensation made by the new
dnsmasq, since I am in fact running v.2.63?

Thanks also for the explanation of how disabling NM-dnsmasq does not
break DNS.

Since I have dnsmasq v2.63, I tried the experimental solution: I
restored /etc/dnsmasq.d/network-manager and replaced the "bind-
interfaces" line with a "bind-dynamic" line. As far as I can tell,
everything works.

Thank you!

[Bug 787736] Re: RebuildData structs are leaked in rebuild() / do_rebuild()

2012-11-28 Thread Alex Chiang
Patch for precise SRU.

** Patch added: "lp787736.patch"

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/appmenu-gtk/+bug/787736/+attachment/3446176/+files/lp787736.patch

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+ This issue affects most and any users of appgtk-menu, such as nm-applet,
especially in environments (such as offices) where the detected wireless
networks change a lot, and where roaming can occur frequently. See also: LP:
#780602
+
+ [Test Case]
+ Run nm-applet for multiple hours:
+ - Observe that the VPN Connections submenu still opens and lists connections
(if VPN connections are configured)
+ - Observe that the "More networks" submenu for additional detected wireless
networks still opens and lists networks.
+
+ A common failure case is where such a submenu will open but show an
+ empty list (a piece of menu a few milimeters long).
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal, the fixes have been available for a while in the development release
(and in other recent releases) with no regressions.
+ Possible issues could be introducing new memory leaks with the changes
however, and although the risk is minimal, this could cause the same failure
behavior as listed above under [Test Case].

  object when it is called.

However, the do_rebuild function isn't guaranteed to be called. In fact
the whole point of the hash table seems to be that the callback can be
canceled. When that happens, the RebuildData object isn't freed, causing
  a leak.

Additionally, instead of storing a proper reference to the toplevel in
the RebuldData object, a weak pointer is stored instead. But if the weak
pointer gets set to null, the do_rebuld function will lose its only copy
of that pointer, so it will have no way of cleaning up the associated
  entry in the hash table.

[Bug 932860] Re: Broken (or missing) multiarch support

2012-11-28 Thread Steve Langasek
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- Anyone wishing to run i386 version of appmenu-gtk in parallel with amd64
version.

appmenu.

  [Test Case]
- Install i386 in parallel with amd64 and attempt to run an i386 application

Re: [Bug 1078941] Re: Several not working apps

2012-11-28 Thread Mardersteig (name) Andreas (firstname)
Hello and many thanks for your reply!

Installing Ubuntu - now 12.10 64bits - I've learned many
things:

Never defrag the WUBI.EXE-drive under Windoze, or the INSTALL
will be lost ...

If that has happened: Never try to install Ubuntu next to Win7
then, because the GRUB install will fail ...

So I finally saved all my data off from Win7 install and now I
have Ubuntu 12.10 64bits installed ALONE on my Lenovo AMD
64bits ...

Doing that, I've learned: Never install all the extensions the
Ubuntu Software Center offers, if you don't know, what they are
good for ... or you will ruin your installation ...

As you can see, I am using ClawsMail for mailing, having had
used Courier/Calypso under Windoze in PLAIN TEXT always, so I do
not miss any HTML feature ...

So far, I am happy with my Ubuntu now, since it enables
recording of any sound, which I can hear on my machine (was
DISabled under Win7, only recording from mic was possible), so
after precisely 30 years of using Microsoft OS's and other
software, I am happy to have made that step away from MS, which
never cared for a downward compatibility all those 30 years.

Peter Norton taught me to use DOS and WINDOWS and now I'll try
to make the Linux family known to me!

Thank you again!

Andreas Mardersteig

[Bug 1084204] [NEW] Unmount message is not displayed

2012-11-28 Thread Ben
Public bug reported:

When writing to external USB devices (e.g., USB sticks or USB HDD), the
write progress bar is displayed correctly. After the write progress bar
is full and the progress window stops displaying, the status light of
the device signals, that still data is written to the device.
Previously, when you pressed the unmount button in nautilus, a window
apeared and displayed a warning not to remove the device. Since about
two weeks, this warning message is not displayed any more. When removing
the device before the write cache is empty, the filesystem of the device
is corrupted on the next mount. This behaviour is reproducable and
occurs every time. It also happens on other installation of 12.10 as
well.

[Bug 1083984] Re: Brightness control doesn't work on Lenovo Thinkpad T530

2012-11-28 Thread Joseph Salisbury
This issue also appears to be an upstream bug, since you tested the
latest upstream kernel. Would it be possible for you to open an
upstream bug report[0]? That will allow the upstream Developers to
examine the issue, and may provide a quicker resolution to the bug.

Please follow the instructions on the wiki page[0]. The first step is
to email the appropriate mailing list. If no response is received, then
a bug may be opened on bugzilla.kernel.org.

[Bug 1065155] Re: Flash doesn't work after upgrading it with Muon

2012-11-28 Thread Steve Langasek
> If the http_proxy environment variable is set but empty, python's
urllib craps its pants and tries to concatenate a string with a NoneType
object:

Right. So don't set it to the empty string, that makes no sense.

And this part from the original bug description is simply false:

> package managers like apt-get and Synaptic run dpkg in a terminal emulator,
> whereas package managers like Muon and PackageKit run dpkg in a pty.

A terminal emulator *is* a pty.

[Bug 1084192] [NEW] [regression] symlink and hardlink restrictions default to off

2012-11-28 Thread Steve Beattie
Public bug reported:

The raring kernel as of linux-image-3.7.0-3-generic 3.7.0-3.9 now
defaults to having the kernel's symlink and hardlink protections to off:

  $ sudo cat /proc/sys/fs/protected_hardlinks
  0
  $ sudo cat /proc/sys/fs/protected_symlinks
  0

This is a regression from quantal as documented by the
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Security/Features page. It was introduced by the
upstream commit 561ec64ae67ef25cac8d72bb9c4bfc955edfd415 which modified
the default settings.

(As an aside, this regression was caught using the tests from the lp:qa-
regression-testing test script for kernel security features, test-
kernel-security.py.)

[Bug 1084064] Re: Can not ssh to raring VM's using hostname

2012-11-28 Thread Parameswaran Sivatharman
What I am trying to do is to ssh to VMs installed using libvirt from
precise/ quantal hosts. I have updated the steps to be clearer.

I am able to ssh to a VM with 20121108.2 i386 raring image installed using
libvirt without any issues .
'ssh ubuntu@ubuntu-virtual-machine' connects fine to this machine without
any issues from my quantal host.

But a VM installed with today's image (20121128) on the same host, same libvirt
is not connecting in a similar way. It was attempted to add .local since the
output of hostname -A did not match to the entries in /etc/hosts and
/etc/hostname.
( I had to change the entries to match them, purge openssh-server, reboot the
VM, install openssh-server again and then reboot the VM in order to make my
ssh from the same host to work and I did NOT have to do all these things for
the VM with the old image said above (20121108.2).
I think that indicates a regression.

[Bug 857623] Re: Menu, XF86ScreenSaver, Delete, Print Screen, Scroll Lock and Media player keys cannot be assigned to a keyboard shortcut

2012-11-28 Thread TomasHnyk
I opened a new bug upstream.

BTW: I have not problems assigning Print Screen to other actions. Can
you assign it too? If so, I will remove it from the bug description (I
have not included it in the upstream list).

[Bug 1075537] Re: Ubuntu Software Center does not update the cache and the xapian search index automatically, caused some packages cannot be found.

2012-11-28 Thread bitinerant
This bug makes it very difficult to write easy-to-follow instructions
for adding software in non-default repositories. What I think is needed
is a GUI button or menu item in Ubuntu Software Center which does
something similar to "sudo apt-get update && sudo update-apt-xapian-
index -f".
