[Bug 1088533] [NEW] Launcher autohide mode - Application window location depends on whether the launcher is visible or not at setup
Public bug reported: When lauching an application from the launcher (autohide mode) its window location will depend om whether the launcher itself is visible or not at the time of setup. Test case: 1) configure launcher autohide mode 2) launch an application from the launcher 3) keep the launcher visible during the application window setup Result: The application window is aligned to the launcher's top/righthand side, i.e where the window would have been setup using the never hide mode. Public bug reported: 12.04.1 regression (worked before, maybe without the mentioned safety check, but it worked) (re-add refers to speeding up the sync using a bitmap) The --incremental (udev) call refuses to (re)add a temporarily diconnected member back to an already restarted (active) raid. [Bug 1087669] Re: Audio Call fails due to linking both gstreamer 0.10 and 1.0
Yeah, empathy can't move to 1.0 just yet because that would require taking new versions of the farstream stack, which has knock-on effects (a telepathy-farstream transition) that break some other (mainly KDE) packages. We should wait some time to get Kubuntu a chance to port their stuff. [Bug 993298] Re: Please make NetworkManager-controlled dnsmasq respect /etc/hosts
I just did a fresh install on 2 laptops that were working fine with version 12.04. Both laptops have this issue with version 12.10. I've tried commenting out dns=dnsmasq in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and creating a wrapper script for dnsmasq that removes the --no-hosts option. Neither of these suggestions worked and the wrapper script caused the system startup to hang. I've read comments that the dnsmasq functionality has been part of Network Manager since version 12.04; however, I didn't see this problem on 12.04. It seems that something changed with 12.10 to manifest it. I'm surprised that I haven't seen more reports of it. It also seems odd that some are reporting that the work arounds worked and others are not reporting the problem at all. I agree with another poster that this bug should be marked critical. It's very annoying that such a basic and critical OS functionality was broken and the bug is only marked as Opinion and remains unassigned. I held off on installing 12.10 to allow time for bug fixes but, sadly, I didn't wait long enough. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/993298 Title: Please make NetworkManager-controlled dnsmasq respect /etc/hosts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/993298/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Re: [Bug 48734] Re: Home permissions too open
I will be out of the office until 9th January, in my absense please contact Nick Tait On 14 Nov 2012, at 23:03, Alexander Adam 48...@bugs.launchpad.net wrote: Sorry but the decision still doesn't make any sense to me. I have to change the default permissions on every installation which is indeed *not* usability friendly. Besides that the public-dir would be perfect for this (wouldn't it be possible to symlink public to a directory outside of users home and so leave it accessible for everyone?): I never ever intenionally shared files between home-dirs. Addionally I have to add that I even talked with many colleagues and friends for this feature and (surprise surprise) they also don't use this feature. But many people doesn't know that a default ubuntu-installation behaves like this. And this is the real danger. If you want a proof you can find many more people in the web who where negative surprised (besides the ones in this bug-ticket). Wether in ubuntu forums, askubuntu.com, blogs or here on launchpad: obviously no one is expecting that. And even IF Colin Watson amazingly really have more cases with public read access than private access then it should be at least decidable by the user (as mentioned by himself in #8). And I don't mean by /etc/adduser.conf but in the GUI (ie an checkbox in usermanagement wether the home-dir should be readable and/or a checkbox on the installer). Furthermore like David Henningsson already said: if you have even a public dir wouldn't it be intuitive to expect that the other directories and files aren't public? I totally agree with aysiu what the defaults should like and I also think like flaccid that even IF somewant WANTS to share his home-dir it is the worst idea to share files. There are thousands of possibilities but sharing the whole home directory should be the default? Marc Deslauriers even if every tool which stores the permissions correct: as long as the user doesn't knows that his files are visible it is still an terrible issue - isn't it? If the user manages his files which leads to unintentinally public data there is definitely a need to improve something. It was a phantastic step to offer simple solutions for encrypting the whole disk, home- or private-dir. But even if I have a fresh installation with an encrypted disk and I prohibited booting from usb or networking there could be a case like this: I am booting the system (type the passphrase) and leaving the room for a moment than someone could login to the (default-activated?) guest login and steal my data. In this case the attacker needs nearly nothing for getting everything. And even in smaller circles when family members share accounts on one computer they mostly expect their home dir is their little home - including a little amount of privacy. And to complete the analogy in real life. See the home-dir like a real home with your own room. Inner-flat doors are often lockable even if you know that these locks give just a low-level-security. For a project which claims to listen to their customers: with all due respect but nobody seems to really listen here (or on ubuntu forums, askubuntu, …) while they are good reasons mentioned for a meaningful revision. So Mark Shuttleworth: No facts or circumstances changed, because there are still many people who think that the default is wrong, but is that really not a reason enough? Or make a poll and ask them at least. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Canonical User Experience and Design team, which is subscribed to a duplicate bug report (460490). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/48734 Title: Home permissions too open Status in “adduser” package in Ubuntu: Opinion Bug description: Binary package hint: debian-installer On a fresh dapper install i noticed that the file permissons for the home directory for the user created by the installer is set to 755, giving read access to everyone on the system. [Bug 1088547] [NEW] External display is black after hot plug switching to it on Macbook Air 4, 2
Public bug reported: I have a Macbook Air 4,2 which I use with an Apple Cinema display. In a dual display set-up, everything works as expected. If I disable the laptop display, the external display continues to work (expected behavior). If I then unplug the external display, the laptop display is automatically re-enabled and works as expected. The problem is, if I then plug the external display back in, both displays go black. I expect the laptop display to go black (disabled), because that was the last setting. However, I do not expect the external monitor to be black. In this state, if I reboot without the external display plugged in, the laptop display turns on and works as expected. However, if I then plug in the external display, both displays go black. If I re-boot and have the external display plugged in, I see the welcome screen but after logging in, the laptop display is black and the external display is blank, but with a blue hue. To recreate: 1. Install Ubuntu on a Macbook Air 4,2 2. Plug in an external monitor 3. In the display settings, enable the external monitor, and disable the laptop monitor 4. Unplug the external display 5. Plug the external display back in I have had this problem with the last few Ubuntu releases. Prior to that, there were more serious problems with dual displays so I did not test for this problem. I am not certain this is an xorg bug, that is just where the bug reporting questionnaire pointed me. [Bug 1079185] Re: Wrong bootarg for disk with label
** Description changed: + [Impact] + + Installation fails on a Pandaboard on Quantal for users who previously + had a volume label on an existing partition. + + [Test Case] + + Create and label an existing partition (eg. using e2label). Then run the + installer. On first reboot, if the bug still exists, the system will + fail to mount the root filesystem. + + [Regression Potential] + + We're changing calls to blkid only by being specific that we want the + UUID instead of assuming that the UUID is on the first line. This has + been tested in d-i on Quantal. I can only see this regression if blkid + doesn't work as expected in this specific mode in some obscure case that + we haven't considered. + + [Original Description] + I just installed Ubuntu 12.10 on a pandaboard. At the installation, I selected an empty partition named ubuntu2 et checked the box for formating. After the installation process, at the first boot, rootfs couldn't be mounted : the bootarg was root=UUID=ubuntu2 So I changed the preEnv.txt on my computer to root=LABEL=ubuntu2 but sill couldn't boot, as the label was erased during format process. I fixed it thanks to busybox by putting back label ubuntu2 to my /dev/sda2 partition. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1079185 Title: Wrong bootarg for disk with label To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/flash-kernel/+bug/1079185/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 995330] Re: [Upstream] Libreoffice has no border on menus (KDE)
I also have this problem. I think I found an easy work-around. Just uninstall libreoffice-kde (purge it), and install libreoffice-gtk instead. Well, I said I *thought* I found a work-around since I tried to fix the problem in many different ways and when, after reinstalling from the Muon Software Center (Using Kubuntu 12.10) instead of the command line, I checked libreoffice and all was fine, nice look and all, menus working great. I noticed that libreoffice-kde was not installed, whereas libreoffice-gtk was. I don't have a spare computer just to check it, and I don't want it broken again, so maybe someone can try that and tell us if that's an ok work-around. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/995330 Title: [Upstream] Libreoffice has no border on menus (KDE) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/df-libreoffice/+bug/995330/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
