[Bug 886975] [PATCH] Revert ALSA: hda - Shut up pins at power-saving mode with Conexnat codecs

2012-12-19 Thread David Henningsson
This reverts commit 697c373e34613609cb5450f98b91fefb6e910588.

The original patch was meant to remove clicking, but in fact caused even
more clicking instead.

Thanks to c4pp4 for doing most of the work with this bug.

@c4pp4: Is this consistent with what you have done to reduce the clicking?
Will you recommend upstream Linux to take the patch below?

[Bug 1091986] Re: ulatencyd causes random kernel crashes during boot

2012-12-19 Thread Mikko Rantalainen
Additional info: once the system is running, I can remove the exit 1
from /etc/init.d/ulatencyd and then start ulatencyd process so this
seems to be some kind of race condition in the kernel. Some crashes have
kernel watchdog messages saying Watchdog detected hard LOCKUP on cpu 1
(sometimes the LOCKUP was on cpu 0).

Is it possible that the ulatencyd gets started before the system is
running on both cores (this system has dual core processor) and kernel
crashes with some feature that ulatencyd uses if all CPUs are not yet
up? Perhaps this really is a kernel bug that is triggered by ulatencyd?

Does ulatencyd collect any data from the system that is used for
deciding grouping and scheduling changes? I see only static choices in
/etc/ulatencyd/simple.d and /etc/ulatencyd/rules but perhaps I'm missing
something...

[Bug 1063656] Re: [Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS 32-bit] Unity GUI will hang during bootup with ATI Technologies Radeon X600 (RV380) and VIA Technologies PT880 Ultra chipset

2012-12-19 Thread fpgahardwareengineer
(In reply to Comment #52)

Hi Christopher,

I attached log files that I think are relevant.
Regarding kern.org, Dec 19 00:08:07 boot is a regular boot, and Dec 19 00:10:56
boot is a recovery mode boot.
Note that regular boot results in a hang, but recovery mode boot is fine.

Regards,

fpgahardwareengineer

[Bug 1092000] [NEW] iPhone 4GS not recognized by Linux Mint 10

2012-12-19 Thread Brian Hess
Public bug reported:

I have followed the advice of several authors on various Linux supported
sites and my computer states Unble to mount Brian Hess's iPhone even
though the icon for the phone appears in my folders on the desktop. If I
click on the icon it gives me Unhanded Lockdown Error (-4)

Following the advice of several sites, I made sure that I followed the
steps to update, upgrade, and install all of the needed components to
make the device work. I think that the iOS 6 is causing the issue and
that the newest libararies for libimobiledevice are not up-to-date to
run the interface. So even though the phone is recognized for picture
support, it will not function for music.

Currently running this system and distro:
HP/Compaq tc4400
Linux Mint
Release 10 (Julia)
Kernel Linux 2.6.35-32-generic
Gnome 2.32.0

iPhone 4gs White

[Bug 1091999] [NEW] Missing kernel options for full LXC support

2012-12-19 Thread Stéphane Graber
Public bug reported:

I've been re-testing LXC with the current kernel on my nexus7. So far I've
found the following two missing options that are preventing me from doing
anything useful with it:
 - CONFIG_VETH
 - CONFIG_BRIDGE

If you want to make LXC really happy, also add:
 - CONFIG_MACVLAN
 - CONFIG_VLAN_8021Q

As far as I can tell, those are the only blockers to get lxc working on the
tablet.

[Bug 944695]

2012-12-19 Thread Nick Leverton
I don't think it is meant to end in just plain 0 because bash parses
that as a command. Has the command been bitten by a missing angle
bracket perhaps ?

[/testing: leveret@george ~]$ killall kded4 sleep 2 kded4 0
[2] 30401
bash: 0: command not found
[/testing: leveret@george ~]$

Experiment and logic suggest that greaterthan ampersand zero may be
what was originally typed before BZ mangling. Thankyou for this
workaround.

[Bug 401393] Re: Warn if clientlaunch.d file name requirements are not met

We cannot warn on random files there because there will always be files
named foo~, foo.backup.1, foo.dpkg-old, foo.cfsaved, and whatever stuff
editors and config management software comes up with.

It might be possible to warn on files that do not have any dots in the
name, though. (or maybe do not match *.cfg*)

[Bug 182101] Re: Bluetooth light comes on but I don't think I have blue tooth.

2012-12-19 Thread jhoechtl
Instead of opening a new report I try to add my report here as it seems
to be the closest match I can get.

After upgrading to kernel 3.5.xxx (Kubuntu 12.10), I have ... probably ... the
same symptom. It's described in detail here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/+bug/1072118

but I repeat for convenience:

The described behaviour is only visible, when shutting down with bluetooth
disabled.
sudo /etc/init.d/bluetooth restart get's the applet catch the right state and
back working.

If I reboot the laptop of with bluetooth enabled, it will come up the
next time working. Working means the status is correctly recognized by
the Kubuntu applet and bluetooth is working.

If I disable Bluetooth, the hardware display on the laptop remains lit.
In Kubuntu 12.04, the display went off. However, the device is properly
unpowered, as it saves 4 Watts (checked with meter). After reboot, the
state is correctly remembered, that means the device is unpowered (the
hardware indication is still lit btw.) However, the bluetooth icon in
panel will recognize the adapter as powered. Unpowering has no effect
and doesn't work: If I choose unpower in the applet, simply nothing
happens, it remains thinking it is still powered, while it is unpowered.
In other words, there is not way to power bluetooth with the applet.

service bluetooth stop
service bluetooth start

will not bring bluetooth back ... it will remain unpowered and the
applet thinking it is powered.

However, issuing

sudo hciconfig hci0 reset

WILL power bluetooth AND the applet back working, so that it can be
powered / unpowered.

So I think the bluetoothd stack doesn't recognize the unpowered adapter,
yet correctly remains it unpowered (state keeps preserved).

[Bug 1092020] [NEW] init: network-interface (vlan3) pre-start process (1683) terminated with status 1

2012-12-19 Thread sles
Public bug reported:

Ubuntu 12.04/x86-64

I have following in

/etc/network/interfaces

auto vlan3
iface vlan3 inet static
vlan-raw-device eth0
address 192.168.42.196
netmask 255.255.255.192
network 192.168.42.192
masklen 26
broadcast 192.168.42.255

it looks good and almost the same on another machine:

auto vlan3
iface vlan3 inet static
vlan-raw-device eth0
address 192.168.42.195
netmask 255.255.255.192
network 192.168.42.192
masklen 26
broadcast 192.168.42.255

but get:

init: network-interface (vlan3) pre-start process (1683) terminated with
status 1

on boot.

Another machine interface works OK.

Looks like bug...

This is still a problem in 3.2.0-34-generic, forcing me to continue to

Unfortunately I was not able to get the kernel to build correctly when

When I have some more time I will try again.

@c4pp4: Is this consistent with what you have done to reduce the clicking?
Will you recommend upstream Linux to take the patch below?

So, it shouldn't be merged yet right now?
Now is the last chance for merging it to 3.8-rc1.

[Bug 401393] Re: Warn if clientlaunch.d file name requirements are not met

2012-12-19 Thread Arie Skliarouk
Why not? If that can save time for someone, I don't mind having couple
of warning messages in syslog for each hobbit start.

Better alternative would be to write xymon_conf_check program that will
check configuration files for correctness and show list of files it used
(or for some reason - did not).

Xymon, by its CLI nature, is already hard to configure. Please don't
make it harder than it already is.

[Bug 1044322] Re: indicator-messages-service crashed with assert in g_menu_exporter_name_vanished()

2012-12-19 Thread Iain Lane
This becomes more urgent to release now that banshee was accidently
released into quantal-updates with a dependency on this newer glib.

I checked a lot of reports on the linked e.u.c page and none had the
proposed glib installed. Given the sheer number though, and the absence
of any way to programatically query the error tracker, I can only hope
to look at a tiny fraction manually.

I'll call this v-done and someone on the SRU team can disagree and do
something else (remove) about banshee if they like.

This bug was fixed in the package postgresql-8.3 - 8.3.22-0ubuntu8.04

---
postgresql-8.3 (8.3.22-0ubuntu8.04) hardy-proposed; urgency=low

  * New upstream bug fix release: (LP: #1088393)
- Fix multiple bugs associated with CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY.
Fix CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY to use in-place updates when
changing the state of an index's pg_index row. This prevents race
conditions that could cause concurrent sessions to miss updating
the target index, thus resulting in corrupt concurrently-created
  indexes.
Also, fix various other operations to ensure that they ignore
invalid indexes resulting from a failed CREATE INDEX CONCURRENTLY
command. The most important of these is VACUUM, because an
auto-vacuum could easily be launched on the table before corrective
action can be taken to fix or remove the invalid index.
- See HISTORY/changelog.gz for details about the other bug fixes.

@c4pp4: Is this consistent with what you have done to reduce the clicking?
Will you recommend upstream Linux to take the patch below?

So, it shouldn't be merged yet right now?
Now is the last chance for merging it to 3.8-rc1.

If we don't have time waiting for c4pp4's confirmation without missing
the entire 3.8 cycle, then I think we should merge it.

It's no new feature, so it's fine to merge it at any time during 3.8
cycle, even after 3.8-rc1.

But such a fix should be merged with Cc to stable, so a bit more tests
would be better.

[Bug 1054983] Re: Sync microcode.ctl 1.18~0+nmu2 (multiverse) from Debian unstable (contrib)

2012-12-19 Thread Daniel Holbach
This bug was fixed in the package microcode.ctl - 1.18~0+nmu2
Sponsored for Henrique de Moraes Holschuh (hmh)

---
microcode.ctl (1.18~0+nmu2) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Add changelog entries for 1.17-13.2 and 1.17-13.1 (closes: #687835)
Missing changelog entries wreak havok with the BTS version tracking,
this is not simply a cosmetic fix.

microcode.ctl (1.18~0+nmu1) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Replace microcode.ctl with a transitional package, to migrate
systems to the new intel-microcode package
+ Change to empty native package, debhelper compat level 7
+ debian/copyright: update
+ Move to contrib/oldlibs, priority extra
+ Remove replaces of a package not seen in the last decade
+ Change description to that of a transitional package
+ Depend on intel-microcode ( 1) which superseded installing
microcode updates, and on iucode-tool, which superseded
the processing of microcode directly downloaded from Intel
+ Conflict with intel-microcode ( 1) to be able to remove
  /usr/share/misc/intel-microcode.dat which might have been
  installed either by microcode.ctl's update-intel-microcode
  script or by intel-microcode ( 1).
+ Use dpkg-maintscript-helper to remove the initscript
+ Remove /usr/share/misc/intel-microcode.dat if still present when
configuring, and regenerates the initramfs in that case. This
avoids left-over cruft microcode in the initramfs for the case
where update-intel-microcode was used, and we're being configured
  together with intel-microcode ( 1)
  * This upload effectively removes microcode.ctl from Debian. Close all
open bugs against microcode.ctl:
+ closes: #282583, #500802, #563910, #571408, #593845, #597039, #608675
+ closes: #627261, #660121, #663360, #664492, #674667, #684104

microcode.ctl (1.17-13.2) unstable; urgency=low

  * Non-maintainer upload.
  * Fix pending l10n issues. Debconf translations:

[Bug 438870] Re: Downloads should start when the previous one ends

2012-12-19 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
No, it doesn't. In 5.4.1.2, a later download still waits until an
earlier installation has finished.

[Bug 1092058] [NEW] VM boots from Hard Disk instead of USB host device

2012-12-19 Thread David Bensimon
Public bug reported:

I created a bootable USB stick on my host. Then I tried to boot it
inside one of my VMs using virt-manager.

What happened:
1) There is no easy way to select a USB disk in the boot order from Boot Options
2) In Boot Options, enabling Enable Boot menu makes it possible to press F12
and this should give easy access to a connected hosts USB device. Unfortunately
the device does not show up in this menu (see attached).

What was expected:
-Boot options should show the USB device
-F12 should show the USB device
