The following sequence causes a crash for me consistently: 1. Start LibreOffice writer (lowriter &). 2. Type in something. 3. File -> Save. 4. Type in a filename. 5. Click save. Sometimes, the crash occurs when typing in a filename. At other times, it happens when clicking save. No file is saved. There is no core dump even though my ulimit -c is set to unlimited. Exit status is 255. When restarting LibreOffice, it asks whether I wish to recover the untitled document. When I confirm that I want to, LibreOffice reports that the recovery was successful, but the resulting file is empty. This is with Kubuntu 12.10 64-bit. I just got a Samsung series 7 chronos 700Z5C-S02 with the intent of installing XUbuntu 12.04 on it dual boot with Windows 8 (still can't completely dump Windows as I need to be able to work with MS Access regularly). Luckilly I ran into this series of posts before succeeding in starting to attempt install. Having read through the chain I do still have some questions and suggestions: 1) This seems to be a BIOS bug in a small number of Samsung notebooks. Has it been brought to the attention of Samsung with a clear message that they should bring out an updated corrected BIOS immediately? This bug sits at the level of the batteries in the Boeing Dreamliner, and from a simple European perspective could be seen to limit the free choice of consumers for an operating system (anti-competitive). 2) In Val's post 116 I read " To install 12.04, get one of the latest daily builds from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/precise/daily-live/current/ (dated January 18th, 2013 or later) and install from it in a usual way. ". Does this mean that I can download a latest daily build and install it without having to turn UEFI, secureboot or fastboot options off without risking trashing the BIOS, can just burn this latest build to a DVD or install it on a USB stick, reboot from that and install?? 3) With such long chains of posts it becomes quite difficult to figure out what the critical posts are. It might be a suggestion to have a "sticky post" at the top or bottom which summarizes the current status of such a critical bug, and provides a simple cookbook for the workarounds for such dummies like me, along the lines of "For (L/K/X)Ubuntu 12.04 follow the following steps: a)..., b)..., c) In addition make sure you do NOT upgrade to 12.10 until such time that this warning has been amended. This bug should be generalised to other file systems. It occurs using xfs and jfs, as well as ext4. In my experience the fs is not relevant, except some recover from an unclean shutdown better than others. I merged the changes from the Ubuntu and include.gr Antennavis repositories into the Savannah version. I kept the original, Savannah version of "Models/*.nec" files, since the new model files (i.e. ubuntu/include.gr) have comma delimited values - that seems not-standard. More anecdotes or "me too"s aren't helpful. What we need is for someone to fsck the fs to a known good state and then try again. [Bug 1101977] [NEW] Fix wrong-arch issues in crossbuild of libnih
Public bug reported: libnih1.0.3-4ubuntu15 gained cross-build support which is great, but it has a couple of things wrong. The first is simple and trivial to fix. A BUILD/HOST typo in configure. Which causes it to fail to find dbus-1, because it used the build-arch pkgconfig. This probably wasn't previously noticed due to the work- around decribed of installing both build-arch and host-arch build-deps. The second is trickier. It tries to run tests using nih-dbus-tool, even is DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nocheck is set. These fail because nih-dbus-tool is the wrong arch. Oddly the rules file contains NIH_DBUS_TOOL=$(CURDIR )/build-dbus-tool/nih-dbus-tool/nih-dbus-tool, when cross-building, to carefully set this to use the version which has been built. This will of course not run unless qemu is available for the host arch (it isn't for arm64). It maybe that the above plus the dh_auto_configure -B build- dbus-tool/ --host=$(DEB_BUILD_GNU_TYPE) was intended to build this too for the build arch, but then the wrong-arch nih-dbus-tool file ends up in the nih-dbus-tool package, does it not? It would need to be built twice, once for each arch for this to work. Ideally DEB_BUILD_OPTIONS=nocheck would simply stop these targets being run, and 'make all-am' instead of 'make all' seems to do this. I suspect that the tests aren't being run in fact, just built, but that fails because it uses this tool - not sure. I failed to discern exactly what the right rune for 'don't try to build/run the tests' is in dh_foo- speak, so instead elected to set NIH_DBUS_TOOL to use the build-arch tool. This works fine. Enforcing this build-dep needs a :native so can't be done for the time being, but I see the package already has some of those pending. Public bug reported: Hola a todos. Muchas Gracias por su atención Espero que esta información les pueda servir de ayuda y que la información de depuración extra que se agrega automáticamente y el resumen del error que envía el sistema de errores de ubuntu les sea muy útil. No pude instalar todas las instalaciones ya que en mitad de instalación se me corto la energía y al volver a prender el portátil no me prendía el wifi y desde hay el wifi no me quiere funcionar y al revisar los controladores adicionales me aparece el controlador inalámbrico broadcom STA desactivado y cuando lo intento activar me aparece un cuadro de error que dice: SystemError: E:Unable to correct problems, you have held broken packages. Después de esto me dirigí a orígenes del software para ver si el proporcionado por desabolladores de software de terceros estaba activado y tal vez eso me podía estar trayendo algún error, pero no estaba activado y al activarlo tampoco me funciona el wifi. Por esto no puedo instalar ni des instalar y el centro de software de ubuntu me dice lo siguiente cuando lo abro: no se pueden instalar ni desinstalar elementos hasta que se repare el catalogo de paquetes . ¿quiere repararlo ahora? una vez que el gestor de actualizaciones haya finalizado las reparaciones. Puede cerrarlo y volver a la tienda. acepto la opcion reparar y despues de intentar repararlo me sale lo siguiente: Falló la operación con el paquete. Actually I have been using "-net tap". I don't run qemu-kvm as root per se, although the "tapper" script runs as root to bring configure the tap interface and assign it the user running qemu-kvm. I have the same problem on Ubuntu 12.10. I have tried 2 fresh installs and both the exact same issue. Copying about 45gig of music around 11,000 files the copy freezes anywhere from 200 to 600 meg. I thought I would try Ubuntu 13.04 just to see... and it's plagued with the same problem.
