Re:[Bug 1103046] Re: failed to upgrade app_A via Software Centre if there is app_B depends on app_A
Hi, I want to explain the scenario below in case it brings any confusion. Please see blue. Scenario: 1) install app_A I installed app_A by double-clicking the .deb file I got on local machine 2) install app_A_patch that depends on app_A I got another .deb that can patch app_A, which I named it 'app_A_patch'. If you run 'sudo dpkg -l | grep app_' , you will see two records -- 'app_A' and 'app_A_patch' both installed. 3) install new version app_B ( the .deb file is on local and user tyies to double-click it to do upgrading) Now I have a new version of app_A (it should not be named app_B, maybe just NEW app_A here) 4) Software Center pop-ups and gives prompt that "Breaks existing dependency .." and upgrading failed I assumed Software Center could install new app_A for me. I can choose to upgrade the app_A_patch later or uninstall it if I want. Dpkg could do this for me whereas Software Center can't. -- Best Regards Nicholas At 2013-01-25 18:39:08,"Matthew Paul Thomas" wrote: >Hi, what do you mean by "double-clicked new app_A to do upgrading"? >Double-clicked where? > >** Changed in: software-center (Ubuntu) > Status: New => Incomplete > >-- >You received this bug notification because you are subscribed to the bug >report. >https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1103046 > >Title: > failed to upgrade app_A via Software Centre if there is app_B depends > on app_A > >Status in “software-center” package in Ubuntu: > Incomplete > >Bug description: > On Ubuntu 12.04, > > installed app_A and app_B, app_B depends on app_A > double-clicked new app_A to do upgrading, however Software Centre gave > prompt that upgrading was failed because app_B depends on app_A. > > How to resolve this issue if I would like to upgrade to newer app_A > without uninstalling app_B ? Re:[Bug 1103046] Re: failed to upgrade app_A via Software Centre if there is app_B depends on app_A
Hi Matthew , Thank you for your response ! I mean I double clicked the .deb files on local machine, then Software Center will pop-up and take up the install/upgrading process, right ? The Software Center seems to do dependency checking first located in /var/info/dpkg/status. The install will fail if other app depends on app_A. The scenario is as below and hope it helps. 1) install app_A 2) install app_A_patch that depends on app_A 3) install new version app_B ( the .deb file is on local and user tyies to double-click it to do upgrading) 4) Software Center pop-ups and gives prompt that "Breaks existing dependency .." and upgrading failed I wonder why I can use dpkg tool to do upgrading, like 'sudo dpkg -i app_B' and seems dpkg can handle the dependency stuff and do upgrading for me. [Bug 1098827] Re: Deluge doesn't stay in the same workspace when a magnet link is clicked in a browser
Thanks for providing information on how other applications handle this situation. I agree that the Thunderbird way is more suitable. And it is also good to keep UI behavior consistent with other applications. I have modified the bug description. ** Description changed: Deluge window is opened in workspace 2, Firefox window is in workspace 1, when clicking a magnet link in Firefox, a Deluge "Download" dialog popped up in workspace 1, after comfirming the "Download" dialog, the Deluge window is moved to workspace 1. This also happens when using Chromium browser. Release: Ubuntu 12.04.1 LTS (unity desktop) Deluge version: 1.3.5-0ubuntu2~precise2 - What you expected to happen: one of these two: - (1) Unity automatically switches to workspace 2, and show the "Download" dialog. The Deluge window stays in workspace 2. - (2) "Download" dialog pops up in workspace 1, after confirming, Unity switches to workspace 2. + What you expected to happen: + Display the "Download" dialog on the active workspace while the application remains in another. I don't think I have the knowledge to build (and git bisect!) my own driver, however there is some additional clue I can give from https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=883536 : the issue does not seem to be strictly related to suspend & resume. [Bug 1003633] Re: Escape plus character in apt HTTP requests to work around Amazon S3 bug
This non-conformance bug works in both directions, so an easy kludge is to hard link all file names like this: $ ln foobar-1.2+baz3_all.deb 'foobar-1.2 baz3_all.deb' And sync to the s3 bucket normally. Afterwards, the key can be called through http with a literal "+" character or the "%2B" escape. Most clients like `apt-get` and `wget` will write out a file with the correct name using either form in the URL. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1003633 Title: Escape plus character in apt HTTP requests to work around Amazon S3 bug To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/apt/+bug/1003633/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
