[Bug 1087183] Re: MaaS cloud-init configuration specifies 'manage_etc_hosts: localhost'

2013-02-10 Thread Julian Edwards
The commit message on the revno (from 2012-10-03) that added
manage_etc_hosts says:

--
specify 'preserve_sources_list' to cloud-init in install preseed

This moves the cloud-init/local-cloud-config out of the preseed
explicitly
and instead renders it in compose_cloud_init_preseed.

We now put 2 items in this debconf escaped yaml, essentially feeding
  cloud-init this yaml:
manage_etc_hosts: localhost
preserve_source_list: true

--

Not sure this helps understand why it is there but at the same time I
think it was added way after Avahi booting worked?

I can remove it, but I don't know enough about cloud-init to know what,
if anything, it will break. So if someone can confirm it's ok I'll do
it.

[Bug 1109029] Re: Depend on linux-initramfs-tools

2013-02-10 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
The above packages on a quick inspection do seem to depart from using
Debian virtual package linux-initramfs-tool. They should probably be
reviewed and include the alternative dependency.

Thanks for pointing this out.

It is wishlist on the basis that it's a new, previously not available,
feature in ubuntu.

[Bug 1115053] Re: Parameter Handling Denial of Service in Oneiric

2013-02-10 Thread Christian Kuersteiner
Here is an updated debdiff with all the fixes.

Please note: CVE-2011-4858 is resolved through patch for CVE-2012-0022.
CVE-2012-5568 is seen as a non-issue for tomcat (see

Is the formating of the changelog okay like this?

[Bug 1048544] Re: LENOVO ThinkPad L512 (2597AB2) Fan speed freezes, and hotkeys stop working

2013-02-10 Thread Игорь
** Description changed:

  Lenovo L512 (2597AB2) ubuntu 12.10

- I've purchased LENOVO ThinkPad L512 (2597AB2) laptop, and experiencing some
problems with it in Linux. Particularly, after some time (it may be 10 minutes,
or may be day) buttons Fn + F1, Fn + F2, ..., Fn + F12, Insert, Delete, Home,
Volume+, Volume-, Volume Mute are no longer works. Also CPU fan behaves
strangely: it stops, then it goes to it's max RPM, than it stops again, etc.
And it does so until one completely cuts laptop from the power (no AC, no
battery), reboot or on/off cycle are unhelpful.

[Bug 1120957] [NEW] Installed tab hangs with loading indicator, Software Center uses 96% CPU and memory usage continues increasing

2013-02-10 Thread Kelly Hyde
Public bug reported:

On the Ubuntu 13.04 daily build, Software Center hangs when clicking on
the Installed tab. The circular loading indicator shows but it does
not progress beyond that point, using 96% CPU consistently and
continuously allocating more memory to itself. (I left it for about 15
minutes, it did not display a list and reached about 600 MB memory
usage.)

I have installed Google Chrome and Google Music Manager from .deb files
through Software Center. Everything else has been installed normally.

[Bug 1120977] [NEW] Reduce the dependency of bamfdaemon on the libunity-webapps0 package

2013-02-10 Thread Drey
Public bug reported:

There is currently no way to remove the Unity Web Apps integration
(libunity-webapps0, unity-webapps-service packages) from Ubuntu without
also removing bamfdaemon, indicator-appmenu, libbamf3-0, ubuntu-desktop,
unity.

Please reduce the dependency of bamfdaemon on the libunity-webapps0
package to at least recommended so users that do not use Web Apps
integration can uninstall it.

I deleted the
/usr/share/dbus-1/services/com.canonical.Unity.Webapps.Service.service
file, so the service wouldn't autostart, and never noticed any problems,
so, perhaps, dependency is not crucial?

[Bug 1110138] Re: Unity: wrong window dimensions / location in Java applications

2013-02-10 Thread Sam Spilsbury
OK, I've uploaded a branch with the fix in tact. Unfortunately, that
part of the code is not straightforward to get under test, and we can't
do an integration test either because decor requires opengl.

I note here that AWT's behaviour is probably not 100% reliable - unless
it waited around for an updated _NET_FRAME_EXTENTS, in which case, their
behaviour was fine and the bug was ours.

[Bug 1120991] [NEW] Change duckduckgo search plugin icon to local one

2013-02-10 Thread Drey
Public bug reported:

Currently on first start and every update, firefox fetches duckduckgo search
plugin icon from the duckduckgo website.
I think it's not very effective, and creates unnecessary load on DDG servers.
Also, all other search plugins in ubuntu use local icons.

Please fix this, as this it's very easy:

In duckduckgo.xml file change this string:
Image width=16 height=16http://duckduckgo.com/favicon.ico/Image
to the local one (i attached search plugin with local icon, generated from
duckduckgo.com for convenience)

[Bug 1120996] [NEW] OpenShot Video Editor disappears after minimizing

2013-02-10 Thread Ak!
Public bug reported:

I am testing Ubuntu
Release 13.04 (raring) 32-bit
Kernel Linux 3.8.0-5-generic
GNOME 3.6.2. (I am using Unity, not Gnome)

While I was using OpenShot 1.4.3 I minimized it for a while. When i
wanted to maximize the window, I could not find the minimized OpenShot
1.4.3. On clicking on the icon, it would open a new project. I checked
the Processes in System monitor and the minimized project was still
running. I then logged out and logged back in. The bug report app
detected that there was a problem and it started to collect the
information. However, it was unable to send the report due to bad
gateway. Unfortunately I do not know any technical details about the
bug.

[Bug 1121003] [NEW] Gwibber 3.6.0 uses almost 100% of CPU

Public bug reported:

I am testing Ubuntu
Release 13.04 (raring) 32-bit
Kernel Linux 3.8.0-5-generic
GNOME 3.6.2 (I am using Unity, not Gnome)

After setting up Facebook and Twitter accounts I tried to access
Facebook and Twitter from the notification center (envelope icon on top
right of the screen). However, if did not show any messages or
notifications. I then opened Gwibber Client and found it to be blank. I
re-checked if the Facebook and Twitter accounts were authenciated and
they were. Internet was working fine too. Then I opened Processes in
System Monitor to see if Gwibber was idle (using 0% of the CPU).
However, Gwibber was causing my laptop to overheat by using almost 100%
of the CPU. I have attached a screenshot showing System Monitor and

[Bug 1121016] [NEW] Button add engine doesn't work properly

2013-02-10 Thread Bernard Decock
Public bug reported:

The button add (Tools - OCR-Engines - Add) doesn't work properly.
If one tries to save the data you entered on the fields, then one gets
always an error-message: Error setting the new engine; please check
your engine settings..

I want want to specify an ocr-engine per language. Taking a copy of the
existing engine by using the add-button, doesn't work
(- error-message). In order to circumvent this bug, one has to enter the
detect-button. A new ocr-engine-entry is then created and by editing this new
entry one accomplish the adding of an engine.

Example:

Existing ocr-engine = Tesseract

TIF

/usr/bin/tesseract
$IMAGE $FILE /dev/null 2 /dev/null; cat $FILE.txt; rm $FILE $FILE.txt

-- The button detect yields a copy of this entry. You can edit this
entry and no errors will be returned.

Added ocr-engine = Tesseract-French

TIF

/usr/bin/tesseract
$IMAGE $FILE -l fra /dev/null 2 /dev/null; cat $FILE.txt; rm $FILE $FILE.txt

[Bug 1081843] Re: Launcher, Window Management - More Effective window switching for apps with multiple windows using the Launcher

2013-02-10 Thread Audiger Jeremy
I agree with Önder. I prefer that windows thumbnails appear with a mini-
delay when the cursor is on the application's picture. We only have to
move the mouse on the picture of the opened application to reveal each
of his windows. Somewhat like Windows 7, I believe.

But this is just my opinion. Each user has his opinion. In this context,
it would be really good if the user have multiple choici to invoke
windows thumbnails : by example, with scrolling.

at least this is foss, i fully expect someone to host a PPA with this
commit reverted that people can use, so hopefully it shouldnt be too
much of an issue for people who do really need it.

[Bug 974480] Re: Notification area whitelist is obsolete

2013-02-10 Thread Miguel
@Cliff

I'm not saying Canonical have to please everyone. I say a complitly different
thing. You need to listning to Costumers.
Look someone says in the first post this:
If the whitelist was retired, Java and Wine would be hard-coded as the only
software still able to use the menu bar as if it was a notification area,
because their developers don't necessarily know that Ubuntu even exists.

The question is: Way this developers are different from the others?

More someone say that the tools they need to port is not ready to they can port
to GTK3.
Soo way changing something that, for now can, put people of Ubuntu vision?

About Canonical vision whats is missing their?
- They whant to make Ubuntu TV (cool)
- They want to make UbuntuPhone OS (Cool)

For my business, the Ubuntu Phone OS, is going to be a interesting tool,
if we solve the porting of programs need to our business.

How many accounting programs exist for Linux?
How many ERPS exist for Linux?

For me, is more important to mantain costumers, listning to them, try to help
them, and try to find partners that want to port the specific programs to
Ubuntu.
If not, in my humble opinion, is going to be another OS.

To resume everithing:
- I understand that they don't have to mantain this legacy software, but, some
software can't, for now be ported, so, why don't wayt for a little more time,
and when the tools that are needed to port are complited then do the moving,

- Start thinking more about whats is missing in the vision, in a global
view.

- Do not tray to imitate some other OS, we are talking about Ubuntu OS,
not OSX or other OS. Be Ubuntu!

Have a nice sunday

[Bug 1119581] Re: display divided into 1 - 2 - 3 and showing as 3 - 2- 1

2013-02-10 Thread melchiaros
I have changed the summary, because you are on Ubuntu 13.04 and not
12.10 as you have written.

Could you give some sentences more on the problem.

Your description is as short as that it is a little bit cryptic.

At best you have a reproducing procedure like:

(step1,
 step2,
.
.
.
finished)

that can bring a biginner to the point where the problem happens.

For now I set the status of the report to incomplete. Feel free to set
it yourself back to new when you find the time to provide a description.

Thank you

[Bug 1120640] Re: All strings are not translated in UI

2013-02-10 Thread melchiaros
Oh yes,

I see it very good on the provided screenshots.

I see this as provided enough information to set the status of the
report to confirmed.

Just for completeness:

Are you willing to run

apport-collect 1120640

from terminal?

(by default your system will not have installed some phyton launchpad
libs - please install them manually if apport disclaims on this.)

We get then the logs of the upgrade process here. May be they could
shorten the fixing process.

[Bug 963736] Re: thunderbird freezes at random : must be killed and reload

2013-02-10 Thread Paul White
I'm seeing this frequently on both a desktop and a laptop running
Kubuntu 13.04 (Alpha 1) with KDE 4.10.00. Thunderbird version is
currently 17.0.2.

This seems to happen after leaving Thunderbird running in the background
for several hours checking mail but not otherwise using the program.
Whether the freeze occurs when Thunderbird is checking mail I can't say
but the freeze has happened frequently enough for me to search for and
add to existing bug reports.

2013-02-10 Thread melchiaros
Clint,

I ahve made a adaption of the summary. You have written from quantal to
precise. Regarding to the headline I have seen this as twist and
changed it to from precise to quantal.

Please have a check if this is correct.

I also add a regression-release, because as you have written in precise
all was working and the following xservers in quantal and raring are
doing not their job anymore.

[Bug 1072082] 046d:c52b Problems using Logitech Unifying Receiver

2013-02-10 Thread Robert John Bowles
bob@bobDell:/$ # Launchpad Short Description:
046d:c52b Problems using Logitech Unifying Receiver

bob@bobDell:/$ # Launchpad Long Description:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1072082

Commit that caused the regression
534a7b8e10ec55d9f521e68c20dbb3634c25b98a.

I recently purchased a new Logitech K350 keyboard (UK layout) and M505
mouse, both of which use the Logitech Unifying Receiver. I 'paired' the
keyboard and mouse to the receiver by using the proprietary Logitech
'Setpoint' software on a friend's computer running Windows XP. On their
computer, the receiver, keyboard and mouse worked perfectly.

I then moved the receiver to my own computer, a new Dell Inspiron 7520
SE running under Ubuntu 12.04.1. I tried with no success to get the
keyboard and mouse to work by repeatedly unplugging and re-plugging the
receiver, and by re-booting the machine.

I experimented with solutions posted on the web, in particular in this
thread on Ask Ubuntu
(http://askubuntu.com/questions/128345/logitech-m515-does-not-work-after-upgrade-to-12-04/202627#202627).

The accepted answer did not solve my problem.

WORKAROUND:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1072082/+attachment/3415472/+files/mousefix

running this workaround script on the command line enabled the receiver.
I added the script to crontab as suggested. The script does not cause
the receiver to work after a reboot, but I found that a single
unplug/replug cycle was now sufficient to restore operation of the
keyboard and mouse.

Potential duplicate of

RE: [Bug 901252] Re: atoi segfaults if the auxiliary vector was empty

2013-02-10 Thread Edmund Grimley Evans
I'm not sure how intentionally corrupting the stack with a debugger to
cause a segfault constitutes a glibc bug...

Setting the auxiliary vector to empty is not really corrupting it. You
just need to ask yourself whether you consider it acceptable for the C
library to segfault when presented with an empty auxiliary vector as
input. Perhaps you do, in which case this behaviour isn't a bug. On the
other hand, if you think the C library should be able to cope more
elegantly with an empty auxiliary vector then my report provides
evidence that something is not working as it should. Your choice.

I don't claim that my technique for demonstrating the problem
constitutes a bug. By all means go ahead and demonstrate the problem
by patching the kernel instead, if you prefer. Or perhaps you could
demonstrate it with valgrind.

Or perhaps you're not interested in glibc bugs that do not affect the
normal use of glibc on Linux. I don't really know who you are and what
your area of interest is.

Unfortunately I experience same behaviour under Precise Pangolin 12.04.
Seems to be more reproducible though. For some reason Compiz is using
80% of CPU when the Nautilus hangs.

RE: [Bug 901252] Re: atoi segfaults if the auxiliary vector was empty

2013-02-10 Thread Edmund Grimley Evans
Perhaps I should mention the keyword locale here. It seems pretty
clear that the segfault is caused by strtol_l_internal receiving a
null pointer as its locale argument. So the C library start-up code,
when presented with an empty auxiliary vector, is silently failing to
initialise the locale. Perhaps this is a simple oversight, or perhaps
there's a good reason why it's hard to set up a locale without certain
information from the auxiliary vector. (AT_PHDR, perhaps?)

Hi,

Thanks for your bug report.
We don't install xfce4-mixer by default on purpose, because it relies on
gstreamer, and the gstreamer-pulseaudio plugins aren't very powerful (that's
why we preferred the pusleaudio mixer).
And you other issues have also been discussed in Bug #883485.

** Package changed: xfce4-mixer (Ubuntu) = xfce4-volumed (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1121073] [NEW] Nautilus is not showing [encrypted] units after unmount

2013-02-10 Thread Oscar Tiderman
Public bug reported:

I have an encrypted SD-card connected to my laptops card reader. After
boot I start Nautilus and I can see the unit in the unit list, it is not
mounted. I click on it to mount it and give the password with option

the eject button to the right of it. Nautilus shuts down the active
window. Later I want to copy some more files to it, so I start Nautilus
again but the unit is not visible this time. I can see the SD-card in

[Bug 1121074] Re: drivers doenst work proprely

2013-02-10 Thread Dave Lentz
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information.

In what way don't the drivers work? Please be more specific. At a minimum, we
need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!
