When redoing this patch, be sure to include DEP-3 comments (the information that would have been in these is missing from debian/changelog) - the quantal debdiff does not use the correct version. It should be 1.6.1-2ubuntu2.1 - the quantal debdiff does not use the format as prescribed by https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Packaging - the precise debdiff is based on a package in precise-proposed. This should be based on what is currently in -security or -updates (see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/UpdatePreparation#Packaging) - the precise debdiff patches debian/patches/debian-changes. This is a source format v3 (quilt) package so the security updates should be in their own patches. [Bug 1152800] [NEW] Wine will not install on 12.04.02
Public bug reported: Problem: Wine wine1.4 1.4-0ubuntu4.1 refuses to install on Ubuntu 12.04.02 fully updated. How to trigger: Install 12.04.02. Update Ubuntu via Update Manager. Attempt to install wine1.4 1.4-0ubuntu4.1 from Ubuntu Software Center. I think a second monitor increases the probability of freezes. Maybe because of more GPU Memory usage. When I have connected a monitor to my laptop I have more often a freeze. And if I work only with the laptop display I have seemingly no freeze since using kernel version 3.8.2. Same problem on Lenovo Y560p. grep enabled /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/* indicates problem is gpe17 and gpe18. echo disable /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe17 echo disable /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/gpe18 Disabling gpe18 works and alleviates some of the CPU load. Disabling gpe17 alleviates the remainder of the CPU load *but* CPU load jumps back up in less than a minute (often within 5 seconds). grep enabled /sys/firmware/acpi/interrupts/* indicates that gpe17 is enabled! Disable again, CPU load goes down, but gpe17 reenables shortly thereafter. Adding the above commands to /etc/rc.local doesn't seem to work, or maybe it does but only temporarily. I know this thread goes back to 2011, but this problem only manifested a month or two ago. Not sure what update triggered it (assuming it was some update). Hopefully someone from ~canonical-hwe-team (the guys that made the sputnik kernel with Sputnik's touchpad driver) will notice this bug (and maybe reassign it, because it's not a bug in synaptics). Palm detection in CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad's driver doesn't seem to work (maybe it's not implemented yet), because I tried turning it on via xinput set-prop CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad Synaptics Palm Detection 1, but it didn't help (I can always open the dash by pressing my thumb(print) against the trackpad) . Nine months later, and this is still an open issue :( Could anyone point out how to remove Ubunut's OS Prober and flavor of GRUB? I recently re-installer Fedora 18, and I don't want to los it again. I also need to ensure earlier versions of Ubuntu (for example 11.10) don't fiddle with things either (I still have to support 11.10 in the field for others, so I need it for testing). Everything I've found online is related to removing GRUB entirely in favor of Windows. This is not my situation - I need Fedora's Prober and Grub because it works with all OSes. I understand the bit about precise-proposed; Scott contacted me. I meant to simply say that even if the rest were right, I couldn't process it until -proposed was went to -updates. As for the versioning, to be clear, precise has to be what you have now cause of what is in -proposed. However, what is in -proposed did not need that version. Oneiric and Quantal also do not need the '+' - it is non-standard. @D. Hugh Redelmeier (hugh-mimosa) Yeah, I can get the OS Prober to recognize the Fedora volumes by first mounting. However, the GRUB menu will not display them as an option during boot. I've tried the following, and they do not produce expected results (i.e., no menu entry for Fedora during boot): # First mount Fedora volume $ sudo update-grub and $ sudo grub-mkconfig $ sudo grub-install -o /dev/sda I'm working from memory because I don't want to boot into Ubuntu right now. I've tried the commands above on Ubuntu with grub and grub2 (don't recall which grub works for which command). Apparently I'm too dumb to figure out how to fix things in Fedora given the exiting documentation. There's nothing special about me, so I imagine there are other folks experiencing the same pain. All of this could be avoided if (1) Ubuntu fixed the problem; (2) GRUB allowed me to boot to a device (i.e., simply specify /dev/sda6); or (3) or Fedora provided a boot repair disk. As far as I know, we have none of them. I've literally wasted hours on this.
