[Bug 1126205] Re: [FFe] Bring Unity appmenu / HUD integration to Qt5

2013-03-26 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
** Description changed:

We're currently lacking patches in Qt5 that would enable appmenu / HUD
  support in Qt5.
-
- The FFe is mainly related to the Qt5 part ( qtbase-opensource-src
- (Ubuntu) ):

  == CHANGE ==

  https://code.launchpad.net/~sil2100/ubuntu/raring/qtbase-opensource-src
  /enable-appmenu - the added patch
  debian/patches/enable_appmenu_support.diff

The patch re-adds appmenu support as it was in Qt4 - it's based on the
approved Qt4 upstream changes we had landed. It's a direct port of the
  same changes.

  == TESTS ==

The packages (and Qt5 with the patch) builds and works, as tested on the
  ppa:sil2100/qt PPA by some users.

  == WHY? ==

Since the release of the Ubuntu SDK, our distro started directly
depending on Qt5. In the current form, Qt5 has no global menu support -
all Qt5 compiled applications have menus in windows. HUD support for
those applications is also non-existent. We think this is unacceptable,
especially that we're advertising development using our Ubuntu SDK
  (Qt5).

Note that this also blocks fix for bug 1126210 (see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-
  src/+bug/1126210/comments/9).

[Bug 1160415] [NEW] package linux-image-3.5.0-26-generic 3.5.0-26.42~precise1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2

2013-03-26 Thread Dow Hurst
Public bug reported:

We have the upstream Precise 3.5 series kernel installed. Older 3.2
kernels are also installed but not used. Every kernel update requires
moving the
/lib/modules/3.?.?-??-generic/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko out of
the tree before allowing initramfs-tools run. So each update requires
moving that driver out of the tree, doing the apt-get upgrade or apt-get
dist-upgrade, then moving the module back. Others have reported this
behavior with the above workaround. I don't know if this relates
directly to this bug report, but I can't imagine it doesn't affect it
somehow. All installed i915.ko modules in each kernel's tree must be
moved or initramfstools won't complete and just hangs forever.

Also, my email address in case you want more info is dphu...@uncg.edu.
I need to update the account since there is rarely a bug to report!

[Bug 1157435] Re: Unable to enter suspend/hibernation in Ubuntu 13.04 on an Asus X201E [F201E]

2013-03-26 Thread Thomas
Hi,
On my X201E, dmesg indicates alx ethernet driver has a problem going to suspend
state on the 2nd time.
As i use only wifi and not ethernet, i desactivated alx driver adding line
blacklist alx in file /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf (for example you can do
it by typing sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf in a terminal).
It works for me.
Hope it can help.

It won't work just after modifying the file, because the kernel module is still
present.
You've got to sudo rmmod alx or just reboot, the module won't be loaded at

[Bug 1126205] Re: [FFe] Bring Unity appmenu / HUD integration to Qt5

2013-03-26 Thread Łukasz Zemczak
Actually, the formal FFe wasn't even yet prepared, I am only now
formalizing everything properly. ~ubuntu-release has been assigned a bit
too early I think, but the formal modifications I am now performing
should not really change the overall state of the problem - just trying
to clean up here and there.

** Description changed:

We're currently lacking patches in Qt5 that would enable appmenu / HUD
  support in Qt5.

  == CHANGE ==

  https://code.launchpad.net/~sil2100/ubuntu/raring/qtbase-opensource-src
  /enable-appmenu - the added patch
  debian/patches/enable_appmenu_support.diff

The patch re-adds appmenu support as it was in Qt4 - it's based on the
approved Qt4 upstream changes we had landed. It's a direct port of the
  same changes.

  == TESTS ==

The packages (and Qt5 with the patch) builds and works, as tested on the
  ppa:sil2100/qt PPA by some users.

  == WHY? ==

Since the release of the Ubuntu SDK, our distro started directly
depending on Qt5. In the current form, Qt5 has no global menu support -
all Qt5 compiled applications have menus in windows. HUD support for
those applications is also non-existent. We think this is unacceptable,
especially that we're advertising development using our Ubuntu SDK
  (Qt5).

Note that this also blocks fix for bug 1126210 (see
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-
  src/+bug/1126210/comments/9).
+
+ As mentioned in the comments, this is a distro-only fix for now, as
+ upstream support does require more time to be done (see bug LP:
+ #1157213). This distro patch would be essentially removed and replaced
+ by the QPA support upstream.

[Bug 1068862] Re: upgrade from 12.04 to 12.10 on a sans-pae CPU leaves kernel broken

2013-03-26 Thread Chris Bainbridge
a test (for PAE support) in Software Updater prior to advertising a version
 update could have been done.

I just filed bug #1160346 for this exact reason. An upgrade leaving a
broken system, after downloading 1.5GB+ of data and over 1000 new
packages, is not really acceptable when it is possible (and easy) to
check whether the CPU and installed kernel support PAE.

[Bug 1160360] Re: flash-kernel failed in an armhf lxc container on ARM: /usr/sbin/flash-kernel: 214: /usr/sbin/flash-kernel: mkimage: not found

2013-03-26 Thread Stéphane Graber
@Robie: The right solution here is to do the same hack we have in grub,
which is to using running-in-container to detect LXC and skip that
part of the code.

/etc/kernel/postinst.d/zz-update-grub can be used as an example for that
change if you're interested in fixing this issue yourself.

I'm also vaguely surprised that flash-kernel uses mkimage but doesn't
depend on it, though that's a separate issue :)

[Bug 1160388] Re: Atheros BT doesn't function (0489:e04e) - ubuntu 12.04

2013-03-26 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v3.9 kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both
the linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.

The boot.log from an existing successful boot would probably also be

As far as it hanging the machine, I see that you have 'splash' on the

any interaction from mountall before the hang, notifying you of problems
with the mounts?

Actually there appears to be an issue in the reporter's

Could you please add the file /etc/default/grub as an attachment?
Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1160435] [NEW] Unreadable or symlinked openssl.cnf breaks bind9

2013-03-26 Thread Ville Walveranta
Public bug reported:

If /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf is unreadable by bind9 process, or is symlinked
from another file (regardless of whether the target is readable by bind9
or not), bind9 will not start.

This is apparently the same issue as what was discussed on the Debian side in
2010:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=584911

I have several custom openssl.cnf files, and recently decided to symlink
the 'default' openssl.cnf to one of them (the target is world
readable). On the next reboot bind would not start. With a lot of
digging, much like in the debian ticket I referred to above, I
eventually clued in on the fact that somehow OpenSSL is involved even
though it's not an advertised dependency.

If this can't be corrected (i.e. so that bind would start regardless of
whether openssl.cnf can be accessed), perhaps a more informative error
message could be added. A simple cannot read openssl.cnf would have
saved me an hour of debug time.

[Bug 1155731] Re: Recurring kernel panic with khidp after resume from S3 on a MacBook3, 1 with a connected bluetooth keyboard

2013-03-26 Thread Joseph Salisbury
To start the bisect, we need to know the last good kernel and the first
bad kernel. Is the 3.8.0-12.21 kernel the first kernel to exhibit this
bug? Does this not happen with 3.8.0-11.20?

[Bug 201711] Re: Apple fn key behavior isn't consistent with what's expected

2013-03-26 Thread Adam Dingle
In Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring) I still have to press Fn to get to the function
keys. The fix Samuel mentioned in comment #44 above still works fine.

I have to set up this manually time I install a new version of Ubuntu,
which is annoying. I'd love for no-Fn to be the default - could Ubuntu
consider this? If not I think John's suggestion in comment #51 (making
it switchable in Keyboard-Layouts-Options) would be pretty reasonable.

[Bug 1160440] [NEW] Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in DamageRegister()

2013-03-26 Thread Craig Domville
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1123166 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1123166

Public bug reported:

Release: Ubuntu 13.04 (Raring Ringtail) dailies.
XOrg version: 1:7.7+1ubuntu4
Intel XOrg driver version: 2:2.21.5-0ubuntu1
ATI XOrg video driver version: 1:7.1.0-0ubuntu2
LightDM version: 1.5.1-0ubuntu2

At boot, my machine has an issue if there is a montor connected to the
external VGA port at boot. The issue is infrequent.

I am able to work around it by dropping to a TTY and starting LightDM
manually through sudo su when I am given the Unable to detect hardware
dialog, at which point, the machine works perfectly.

Whilst the crash happened when trying to start LightDM, I believe (given
the symptoms of the bug) that the issue resides in the X Server failing
detection of the hardware and the activation of the relevant drivers,
but the hardware works fine without the screen attached (aside from an
ACPI BIOS bug from HP themselves regarding the backlight).

My hardware is a HP TouchSmart tm2-2190sa laptop with a hybrid Intel/ATI
graphics system, and the spec for the test machine is available on HP's
website. Additional infomration on hardware/system config available at
further request, I'm not so sure on what would be relevant, as graphics
drivers are not my speciality.

I will point out that my rc.local contains the command to disable the
ATI chip with vgaswitcheroo, so I believe the issue resides in XOrg
itself.

[Bug 1132529] Re: Can't start wicd daemon

2013-03-26 Thread Robert Brendler
Got the wicd daemon running, but having other problems now, so far here
is a patch to get the daemon started, its a one liner

ERROR:dbus.proxies:Introspect error on :1.12:/org/wicd/daemon:
dbus.exceptions.DBusException: org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.NoReply: Did
not receive a reply. Possible causes include: the remote application did
not send a reply, the message bus security policy blocked the reply, the
reply timeout expired, or the network connection was broken.

** Patch added: patch check for existing backup of symlink to resolv.conf

[Bug 1124390] Re: bcmwl driver causing 3.8 kernel panic with BCM4331

2013-03-26 Thread Kelly Hyde
No, because disabling bcmwl and using b43 causes the problem to go away.
It only occurs when I'm using the wl driver. I've been using the b43
driver for a couple weeks now and I haven't experienced any kernel
panics.
