[Bug 1160415] [NEW] package linux-image-3.5.0-26-generic 3.5.0-26.42~precise1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 2
Public bug reported: We have the upstream Precise 3.5 series kernel installed. Older 3.2 kernels are also installed but not used. Every kernel update requires moving the /lib/modules/3.?.?-??-generic/kernel/drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko out of the tree before allowing initramfs-tools run. So each update requires moving that driver out of the tree, doing the apt-get upgrade or apt-get dist-upgrade, then moving the module back. Others have reported this behavior with the above workaround. I don't know if this relates directly to this bug report, but I can't imagine it doesn't affect it somehow. All installed i915.ko modules in each kernel's tree must be moved or initramfstools won't complete and just hangs forever. Also, my email address in case you want more info is dphu...@uncg.edu. I need to update the account since there is rarely a bug to report! [Bug 1160435] [NEW] Unreadable or symlinked openssl.cnf breaks bind9
Public bug reported: If /etc/ssl/openssl.cnf is unreadable by bind9 process, or is symlinked from another file (regardless of whether the target is readable by bind9 or not), bind9 will not start. This is apparently the same issue as what was discussed on the Debian side in 2010: http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=584911 I have several custom openssl.cnf files, and recently decided to symlink the 'default' openssl.cnf to one of them (the target is world readable). On the next reboot bind would not start. With a lot of digging, much like in the debian ticket I referred to above, I eventually clued in on the fact that somehow OpenSSL is involved even though it's not an advertised dependency. If this can't be corrected (i.e. so that bind would start regardless of whether openssl.cnf can be accessed), perhaps a more informative error message could be added. A simple cannot read openssl.cnf would have saved me an hour of debug time. -- Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Release:12.04 bind9: Installed: 1:9.8.1.dfsg.P1-4ubuntu0.5 Candidate: 1:9.8.1.dfsg.P1-4ubuntu0.5 Version table: *** 1:9.8.1.dfsg.P1-4ubuntu0.5 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-updates/main amd64 Packages 500 http://security.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise-security/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status 1:9.8.1.dfsg.P1-4 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/main amd64 Packages ** Affects: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1160435 Title: Unreadable or symlinked openssl.cnf breaks bind9 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1160435/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

The issue is infrequent. I am able to work around it by dropping to a TTY and starting LightDM manually through sudo su when I am given the Unable to detect hardware dialog, at which point, the machine works perfectly. Whilst the crash happened when trying to start LightDM, I believe (given the symptoms of the bug) that the issue resides in the X Server failing detection of the hardware and the activation of the relevant drivers, but the hardware works fine without the screen attached (aside from an ACPI BIOS bug from HP themselves regarding the backlight). My hardware is a HP TouchSmart tm2-2190sa laptop with a hybrid Intel/ATI graphics system, and the spec for the test machine is available on HP's website. Additional infomration on hardware/system config available at further request, I'm not so sure on what would be relevant, as graphics drivers are not my speciality. I will point out that my rc.local contains the command to disable the ATI chip with vgaswitcheroo, so I believe the issue resides in XOrg itself. [Bug 1124390] Re: bcmwl driver causing 3.8 kernel panic with BCM4331
No, because disabling bcmwl and using b43 causes the problem to go away. It only occurs when I'm using the wl driver. I've been using the b43 driver for a couple weeks now and I haven't experienced any kernel panics. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1124390 Title: bcmwl driver causing 3.8 kernel panic with BCM4331 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1124390/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
