[Bug 1171320] [NEW] Kubuntu 12.04 64bit installation crashes after update/upgrade
Public bug reported: After an update/upgrade one of our Lenovo T 420s hangs with a system crash. I decided to re-install Kubuntu: Using ISO CD with Kubuntu 12.04 64 bit 3.2.0-23 - Installatation succeeded and everything works fine. [Bug 1171048] Re: Segfault during Broadcom STA wireless driver install in Kubuntu live session
The jockey handler essentially does this when enabling the wl driver: rmmod b43 rmmod b43legacy rmmod bcm43xx rmmod ssb modprobe wl Then it iterates over /sys/module/wl/drivers/*, and for each actual driver (like 1-1.5.4.2:1.0), echoes their name first into "unbind" and second into "bind", so that the kernel "reloads" the device for that driver. This causes firmware to be loaded, and wl to work without a reboot. According to the syslog, the driver oopsed on either unbinding or rebinding. Perhaps you could do the steps manually on your machine in the live session and record precisely what happens? This unbinding/rebinding has worked fine for several cycles, so I guess either the kernel or (more likely) the bcmwl package broke something there recently. If there is a different way, or perhaps a different order of these commands that work, we can certainly change the jockey handler. ** Also affects: bcmwl (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171048 Title: Segfault during Broadcom STA wireless driver install in Kubuntu live session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/1171048/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. Things stopped working for me. It turned out that I pasted that fix into the wrong section of grub.cfg and actually the computer was just working by magic (or whatever makes it sometimes start up right away). Anyhow after playing around with some settings (installing and removing bumblebee and such to try to get google-earth working) the magic seems to have worn off. Long start up times again. Also I put the fix in the section of grub.cfg that I am acutally using (just before /boot/vmlinuz-3.2.0-40-generic... etc) which has no positive effect. I'll play around with some of the other approaches suggested on this thread and report what works. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1093217 Title: Ubuntu 12.04/12.10/13.04 10-20min boot delay (From 3.2.0.29->3.8.0.19) [Lenovo IdeaPad Z580] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1093217/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1171285] [NEW] intel centrino Wireless-N 1000 firmware is wrong under LTS 12.04
Public bug reported: After a fresh installation, I can't drive my wireless card, Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000. The problem is about the firmware used in LTS 12.04. First I'm very sure that both my hardware switch and soft switch are on. [code] nico@jacob-pc:~$ rfkill list all 0: ideapad_wlan: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 1: ideapad_bluetooth: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 2: hci0: Bluetooth Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no 5: phy0: Wireless LAN Soft blocked: no Hard blocked: no nico@jacob-pc:~$ [/code] Then when running 'iwconfig' command, I got this [code] nico@jacob-pc:~$ iwconfig eth0 no wireless extensions. lono wireless extensions. wlan0 IEEE 802.11bgn ESSID:off/any Mode:Managed Access Point: Not-Associated Tx-Power=0 dBm Retry long limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off Power Management:off [/code] This means the system can probe my card, but can't drive it. Third, I used 'iwlist scan' command, 'ifup wlan0' command and 'dhclient wlan0' command, there are the outputs: [code] nico@jacob-pc:~$ iwlist scan eth0 Interface doesn't support scanning. loInterface doesn't support scanning. wlan0 Failed to read scan data : Network is down nico@jacob-pc:~$ sudo ifup wlan0 [sudo] password for nico: Ignoring unknown interface wlan0=wlan0. nico@jacob-pc:~$ sudo dhclient wlan0 RTNETLINK answers: Input/output error ^C [/code] This means the system can't drive my card, there may be something wrong with the firmware. After a long time trying, I found a way to solve this problem at last. Download a older firmware from http://wireless.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi?action=AttachFile&do=get&target=iwlwifi-1000-ucode-128.50.3.1.tgz This firmware is only for kernel 2.6.30+, the original one is for 3.2+. LTS 12.04 use a latest one from that website, that's the reason. So just delete or rename the original one which is named iwlwifi-1000-5.ucode, and put iwlwifi-1000-3.ucode from that tarball to /lib/firmware, and run 'modprobe -r iwlwifi', 'modprobe iwlwifi', everything will be wonderful. [Bug 1171282] Re: Can't Apply Settings During "Setup Weather" wizard
apport information ** Tags added: apport-collected ** Description changed: I'm unable to complete the Setup wizard for indicator-weather. At the very end of the setup, clicking the "Apply" button does nothing; it does not save my settings and it does not close the dialog, yet the dialog is not locked up (I can hit the back or cancel buttons effectively, but I cannot proceed past the apply button; it just remains highlighted and the dialog doesn't go away unless click cancel). This is a severe bug (especially for first-time-users who wouldn't already have a configuration file generated by a prior version's installation and setup). Reproduce: 1) sudo apt-get install indicator-weather 2) start indicator-weather 3) Click indicator and then "Setup Weather" 4) Click location's tab 5) Click "add" button 6) search for 75845 7) Select "Groveton, Texas" from drop down 8) Make label "Groveton", and click next button 9) Click "Apply" button + --- + ApportVersion: 2.9.2-0ubuntu8 + Architecture: amd64 + DistroRelease: Ubuntu 13.04 + InstallationDate: Installed on 2013-04-21 (0 days ago) + InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 13.04 "Raring Ringtail" - Release amd64 (20130421) + MarkForUpload: True + Package: indicator-weather 12.07.30-0ubuntu5 + PackageArchitecture: all + ProcEnviron: + TERM=xterm + PATH=(custom, no user) + XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + SHELL=/bin/bash + ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.8.0-19.29-generic 3.8.8 + Tags: raring + Uname: Linux 3.8.0-19-generic x86_64 + UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) + UserGroups: adm cdrom debian-tor dip lpadmin plugdev sambashare sudo ** Attachment added: "Dependencies.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171282/+attachment/3650192/+files/Dependencies.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171282 Title: Can't Apply Settings During "Setup Weather" wizard To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-weather/+bug/1171282/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1171283] [NEW] Chromium shifts up leaving desktop background gap on bottom and hiding tabs
Public bug reported: Chromium randomly shifts up an inch exposing part of the desktop background and hides the tabs. This won't allow the page to be shifted nor the top menu bar with minimization and full screen to be accessed. The page must be moved by opening the multidesktop view and dragging it down. I apologize if i am not supposed to report this problem to you, if so please let me know any way possible. Thanks, Adam ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1171283 Title: Chromium shifts up leaving desktop background gap on bottom and hiding tabs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1171283/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
