[Bug 1182099] [NEW] Resizing changes image colour

2013-05-20 Thread Vinay Gopinath
Public bug reported:

I don't know if I should report this as a nautilus-image-converter bug
or go to ImageMagick, but I am using nautilus-image-converter version
0.3.1~git20110416-1 on Ubuntu 13.04 and resizing this 128x128 image to a
custom 96x96 image seems to change the colour of the image!

I've attached a screenshot with the original image, the different
coloured image produced by image-converter, and the expected result
produced by scaling in GIMP.

The original image is available here if you want to reproduce the issue:
http://i.imgur.com/wHjwKSN.png

** Affects: nautilus-image-converter (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

** Attachment added: The original 128x128 image, resized by
nautilus-image-converter [with colour change] and resized by GIMP [no colour

[Bug 1182097] [NEW] HDMI audio works but does not show up in GUIs

2013-05-20 Thread John McCabe-Dansted
Public bug reported:

Like others I am having problems with outputting sound over HDMI (e.g.
#1158909), however in my case the hardware clearly works, it is just the the
HDMI option doesn't appear in the GUI etc.
   aplay -D hdmi ...
works, and I can get all the programs to output to hdmi correctly by running
   echo set-default-sink alsa_output.hdmi | pacmd
However, I would expect a way to set the output to HDMI via a menu, but none of
pavucontrol, xfce4-mixer or alsa-mixer allow this.

I am using Lubuntu Raring 13.04 AMD64 with kernel 3.8.0-15.

[Bug 1166649] Re: Multiple open vulnerabilities in tomcat6 in quantal and raring

2013-05-20 Thread Christian Kuersteiner
Sitting too long on this patch for quantal and could not really enable the
testsuite I thought I just drop it here. Even with some hints from jamespage I
could not run the built in tests and didn't really had enough time to look
further in it.
The changes are all done as in upstream and it builds and installs fine. Didn't
see any problems from basic testing.

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/software-center/+bug/692197/+attachment/3682135/+files/uninstall-two-2.webm

** Summary changed:

- Multiple application Install/Removal buggy/not efficent
+ Quickly choosing Remove for two applications removes only one

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: software-center
+ software-center 3.0.7, Ubuntu 10.10
+ software-center 5.6.0, Ubuntu 13.04

- Hello!
+ 1. Go into Installed and expand one of the branches.
+ 2. Select one application and choose Remove.
+ 3. Before the removal begins, quickly select another application and choose
Remove.

- I would like to point out that if users want to remove a lot of
- applications, like games for example, it's not very efficient.
+ What happens: One of the applications is removed, but the other is not.
Examples:
+ https://launchpadlibrarian.net/140319308/uninstall-two-2.webm

- You go into Installed Software, Press remove on the first game, it starts
working, you click on the second, and suddenly you cant click the remove button
(after the second on the third and so on).
- You have to change to Get Software tab or any other tab and back, to get the
removal button up.
- Also the entire page gets white with loading bar for a few seconds (To
refresh or something?).
+ What should happen: Both applications are removed.
+
+ Also the entire page gets white with loading bar for a few seconds (To
+ refresh or something?).

Its not efficient if you want to remove a lot of applications quickly.
-
- Its quite easy to reproduce, just remove a lot of applications you don't
- want as quickly as possible.
-
- ProblemType: Bug
- DistroRelease: Ubuntu 10.10
- Package: software-center 3.0.7
- ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 2.6.35-23.41-generic 2.6.35.7

[Bug 1173265] Re: facter fails to run from rebuilt source package

2013-05-20 Thread Robie Basak
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ SRUs and security updates are impossible without breaking the package.
+
+ [Development Fix]
+
+ My merge of facter 1.7 drops most of the Ubuntu delta that is now no
+ longer necessary. This eliminates the problem.
+
+ [Stable Fix]
+
+ Build-Depend on ruby1.8 specifically, instead of the ruby virtual
+ package. The Quantal and Raring binaries in the archive were originally
+ built against ruby1.8 anyway, as this is what the ruby virtual package
+ brought in at the time of the build. With this minimal fix, the build
+ doesn't change to pulling in 1.9.1 instead and thus causing breakage.
+
+ [Test Case]
+
+ A dep8 smoke test has been added. If the problem is fixed, the dep8 test
+ should pass.
+
+ Failing this, just run facter. If you get a bunch of facts printed
+ out, then the problem is fixed. Note that to test this properly, you
+ should start by not having ruby1.9.1 installed.
+
+ The two failure possibilities are:
+
+ # facter
+ /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/custom_require.rb:36:in `require': cannot load
such file -- facter/application (LoadError)
+ from /usr/lib/ruby/1.9.1/rubygems/custom_require.rb:36:in `require'
+ from /usr/bin/facter:58:in `main'
+
+ # facter
+ bash: /usr/bin/facter: /usr/bin/ruby1.9.1: bad interpreter: No such file or
directory
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ The build could have accidentally changed other things apart from the
+ original Ruby 1.8 dependency since the original build. But since
+ facter on its own prints all known facts, it is easy to confidently
+ verify that factor's fact-detection behaviour has not changed
+ unexpectedly after an update.
+
+ [Original Description]
+
If I rebuild 1.6.9-2ubuntu1 in a raring chroot, then when I attempt to
run facter I get an error:

- $ sudo dpkg -i facter_1.6.9-2ubuntu1_all.deb
+ $ sudo dpkg -i facter_1.6.9-2ubuntu1_all.deb
(Reading database ... 77464 files and directories currently installed.)
Preparing to replace facter 1.6.9-2ubuntu1 (using
facter_1.6.9-2ubuntu1_all.deb) ...
  Unpacking replacement facter ...
  Setting up facter (1.6.9-2ubuntu1) ...
  Processing triggers for man-db ...
  ubuntu@raring-test:~$ facter
-bash: /usr/bin/facter: /usr/bin/ruby1.9.1: bad interpreter: No such file or
directory

The problem is that /usr/bin/facter gets a shebang of
#!/usr/bin/ruby1.9.1 after the rebuild, rather than the
#!/usr/bin/ruby1.8 shebang in the binary in the archive. It looks like
this might have happened after the ruby metapackage was updated to 4.9
which changed the default ruby to 1.9 from 1.8, causing the facter
package build to turn out differently.

It also looks like Debian's facter 1.6.10-1 rejigged some of the ruby
versioning, so I suspect that the problem can be fixed in Saucy with a
  simple merge.

But I suspect that an attempted SRU to Quantal or Raring will cause a
regression unless this bug is fixed there.

[Bug 1182067] Re: The grub menu does not show ubuntu flavour

2013-05-20 Thread Phillip Susi
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read How to report bugs effectively
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures

At a minimum, we need:
1. the specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem,
2. the behavior you expected, and
3. the behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1170325] Re: Facter 1.6.X not considering Qemu/KVM virtual type

2013-05-20 Thread Robie Basak
** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ facter recognises a /proc/cpuinfo CPU model of Common KVM processor as
+ a physical machine. facter is most often used with puppet, and causes
+ puppet manifests to mis-classify virtual machines of this type and apply
+ incorrect rules where the puppet manifests supplied by system
+ administrators differ on this criterion.
+
+ [Stable and Development Fix]
+
+ A cherry-pick of the upstream fix, modified to be made minimal (one
+ line). See the quilt patch for details.
+
+ [Test Case 1]
+
+ Run facter is_virtual. On a physical machine, this should say false.
+ On a virtual machine reporting in /proc/cpuinfo as QEMU Virtual CPU as
+ well as a virtual machine reporting in /proc/cpuinfo as Common KVM
+ Processor, facter is_virtual should say true.
+
+ [Test Case 2]
+
+ As a shortcut, on Quantal and Raring you can fake the /proc/cpuinfo file
+ as follows:
+
+ mkdir -p /tmp/proc/{lower,upper,combined}
+ cd /tmp/proc
+ mount -t proc none lower
+ mount -t tmpfs -o mode=755 none upper
+ mount -t overlayfs -o lowerdir=lower,upperdir=upper none combined
+ stop rsyslogd
+ stop acpid
+ umount /proc mount --bind combined /proc
+
+ Then you can edit /proc/cpuinfo and run facter to test behaviour as per
+ Test Case 1.
+
+ This is a hack and does not appear to work correctly in Precise.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+
+ It looks like detection of other model strings in /proc/cpuinfo may have
+ regressed upstream, fixed by a later commit. It's important to test that
+ both model strings of QEMU Virtual CPU and Common KVM processor
+ detect as virtual, and that another string (eg. Other) detects as
+ physical.
+
+ [Original Description]
+
On ubuntu 12.04 LTS, the official version for the facter package is
  1.6.5-ubuntu1.

ii facter 1.6.5-1ubuntu1 collect and display facts about the system

The is_virtual? method is not recognized on last version of KVM, because
of the output of /proc/cpuinfo, which does not contains “Qemu Server”
  Infos.

model name : Common KVM processor

The workaround was added in the next versions of facter, and so I would
like to provide you this patch, which fixes this bug on Ubuntu 12.04
  LTS.

  Best regards

Re: [Bug 1181183] Re: Add support for the Ubuntu SDK apps to dh_translations

2013-05-20 Thread Martin Pitt
Olivier Tilloy [2013-05-17 14:54 -]:
The Ubuntu Touch QtCreator plugin exposes a Translations tool that has two
 options:
  1) Export .pot File
  2) Generate .mo File

The first option invokes xgettext with the following arguments:

 xgettext -o messages.pot --qt --c++ --add-comments=TRANSLATORS
 --keyword=tr %PROJECTFILES%

Is this translation tool implemented in the build system, or is that
separate logic in the GUI only?

Is this invoked automatically anyway? I. e. is the issue here that
dh_translations overwrites an already correct .pot file with an
incomplete one, and we just need to disable dh_translations for Ubuntu
SDK packages? Or is the point of this bug to replace the GUI tool's
export function with dh_translations?

We can certainly call above xgettext command in dh_translations if we
detect a project where this command is suitable. Do you have some
guidance how to do this detection?

The alternative, if I understand it correctly, would be to add a
$domain.pot target to the make rules (need to investigate how to do
that with cmake). Is that correct?

That would also work, yes. It depends a little bit how much you want
these to work in a non-Debian(ish) environment, i. e. whether you have
some notion of a non-packaged upstream release of these projects.

[Bug 1181666] Re: gnome-shell randomly blocks mouse from working

2013-05-20 Thread Nikola Ciganovic
I seem to have the same or a closely related problem, my mouse behaves
in exactly the same way as described above!

After a fresh install of 13.04, I installed gnome-shell, which is when
the problem started. However, It's still there after I have uninstalled
gnome-shell. It is always present after the first login after booting.

Logging out and back in removes the issue.

Any ideas what the issue might be?

[Bug 1100386] Re: Server installations on VMs fail to reboot after the installations

2013-05-20 Thread Parameswaran Sivatharman
** Summary changed:

- Raring server installations on VMs fail to reboot after the installations
+ Server installations on VMs fail to reboot after the installations

** Description changed:

- Raring server installations with both amd64 and i386 fail to reboot
- normally after the installations on VMs. This occurs with both amd64 and
- i386 images when installing VMs, (using libvirt and virt-manager and
- also using VirtBox).
+ Raring and saucy server installations with both amd64 and i386 fail to
+ reboot normally after the installations on VMs. This occurs with both
+ amd64 and i386 images when installing VMs, (using libvirt and virt-
+ manager and also using VirtBox).

This appears to be a regression started with Ubuntu 3.7.0-6-generic.
Earlier versions do not have this issue.

On i386 installations booting via the recovery mode causes Kernel panic
  - not syncing: Attempted to kill init! exit code 0x0600 as shown in
  the attached image.

  Latest amd64 (20130121) installations with virtual-host package
selection also reported the kernel panic when booting via recovery mode
with the same message above, Kernel panic - not syncing: Attempted to
  kill init! exit code 0x0600.

Standard booting causes the similar type of hang as that in i386 cases.
  (please see the video attached)

This issue can not be seen in hardware installations.

  Steps to reproduce:

  A) Manual steps:

  1. Install raring server on a VM with no package selected, leaving the
default answers for the questions. The host of the VM is irrelevant, this has
been observed on raring, quantal and precise 64 bit hosts where the VM is
installed.
  2. Reboot after the grub installation is complete

  B) Automated steps:
  1. Do a preseed installation of raring desktop with the attached preseed file
(virtual-host.preseed) and the virtual-host.run using utah. The automation
instructions are below
  2. Reboot the machine
(I used utah for automated installation, the how to is given in
http://utah.readthedocs.org/en/latest/introduction.html#how-to-start-running-tests)
  The steps are
  1. use the attached .preseed file (attachment 15) and .run file (attachment
16) to execute the following command (please provide the absolute path to the
files and the iso)
  sudo -i -u utah run_utah_tests.py -i /path/to/iso -p /path/to/preseed
/path/to/.run -n -x /etc/utah/bridged-network-vm.xml
  2. Reboot the VM after the installation

Re: [Bug 978724] Re: pkgbinarymangler should build a tarball for pot import even when translations are not stripped

2013-05-20 Thread Martin Pitt
Steve Langasek [2013-05-17 14:45 -]:
Regenerating the .pot file at package build time changes timestamps,
which means the .mo files shipped in the package are not identical
 across architectures.

I don't understand this. This would only happen if the package updates
its *.po files during package build, which is evil and unnecessary.
But build systems which do that would already create different *.mo
files on each build, so whether or not you update the *.pot as well
should make little difference.

In the ordinary case, the build sytem just builds *.mo from the source
*.po files, and completely ignores the *.pot. Most binary packages get
their *.mo files stripped out anyway, and for the remaining ones we
just need to make sure that we don't put *.mo files into arch specific
packages (either packages are arch:all anyway, or we put translations
into an arch:all -common binary, which is quite common for GNOME
packages).

Re: [Bug 1181836] [NEW] This is not really an mpich version of mpb-mpi.

2013-05-20 Thread Thorsten Alteholz
Hi Sunil,

On Sun, 19 May 2013, Sunil Sandhu wrote:

 3) When installing mpb-mpi which is described as parallel (mpich)
 version in http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/science/mpb-mpi, I expect
 mpich dependencies to be installed.

I am sorry to tell you that this description is a bit outdated. It was
true when long time ago mpich1 was the current implementation of mpi. As
there appeared other alternatives later, it was decided to link all mpi
programs against the mpi version that is best supported for a given
architecture. Therefore the metapackages mpi-default-bin and
mpi-default-dev have been created and mpb depends on them.
So for almost all architectures openmpi is the default mpi implementation
that is used, for the rest it is mpich2:
openmpi-bin [alpha armel armhf i386 amd64 lpia ia64 powerpc sparc
kfreebsd-i386 kfreebsd-amd64 hurd-i386],
mpich2 [!alpha !armel !armhf !i386 !amd64 !lpia !ia64 !powerpc !sparc
!kfreebsd-i386 !kfreebsd-amd64 !hurd-i386]

Maybe there should be two versions of mpb-mpi in the repo: i.e. (i)
mpb-mpi linked with libopenmpi1.3, and (ii) mpb-mpi linked with
libmpich2-3.

Is there a reason why you prefer mpich2 over openmpi?

Thorsten

[Bug 1180297] Re: Opening facebook Success page in external browser

2013-05-20 Thread BlueCase
Can confirm. Workaround of Post #4 working.
But as I wrote in Bug #1132030. For this kind of problem signon-ui must be able
to catch the failure and show the user that the service try to redirect them to
a non secure URL. Perhaps with a exeption request.
Only to open a web page with a Securtiy Warning Message which isn't
understandable is not enough.
I know.. This is a failure of Facebook but it wasn't the first and will be also
not last time where that happen.

regards,
Marco

[Bug 1158267] Re: broken (click-trhough) window decoration on some maximized windows

2013-05-20 Thread Roland Baudin
I can confirm the bug and it's 100% reproducible.

Here is a workaround: you can use devilspie (with its gui gdevilspie)
to setup a rule that unmaximizes each window when starting an
application. I tested it with a rule like this: unmaximize each window
whose class is not equal to 'dummy'. Using such a rule, each starting
application (whose window of course does not belongs to the class
'dummy') is unmaximized at startup and this avoids the issue.

You can set up gdevilspie to start the devilspie program at each session
startup. However, beware that the gdevilspie package is buggy and that
you'll have to apply a patch I submitted (here
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdevilspie/+bug/1161594).

Hope this helps,
RB

[Bug 1182060] Re: REad/Write error when building partition table on installation Ubuntu 13.04

2013-05-20 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Reviewing your log files attached to this bug report it
seems that there is a problem with the disk to which you are trying to
install Ubuntu. I'd recommend performing a back up of your existing
operating system and then investigating the situation. Measures you
might take include checking cable connections for your disks and using
software tools to investigate the health of your hardware. In the event
that is is not in fact an error with your hardware please set the bug's
status back to New. Thanks and good luck!

[Bug 1173623] Re: Launcher - Mouse wheel and touchpad two finger/edge scrolling doesn't permit navigating through icons anymore

2013-05-20 Thread Rafał Ochmański
Currently there are three ways to scroll the Launcher

There are also multiple ways to switch between windows of the same
aplication:

-- click on them;
-- alt+`;
-- alt+tab and then with arrows;
-- click the icon in the launcher.

It's covered but you are adding another one breaking existing
functionality. If you're keeping an arcane alt+scroll anyway, maybe you
could add a way to make it the default behaviour, even wihtout alt?
Which would be a fix not conflicting with the nth way of switching
between windows.

[Bug 1182139] [NEW] petsc mpi crashes from inside eclipse if using sudo eclipse but does not chrash if uses sudo su and then launch eclipse

2013-05-20 Thread Luiz M. Carvalho
Public bug reported:

When calling a Petsc routine PetscInitialize(argc, args,(char
*)0,help) the program gives a segmentation fault if I launch eclipse
using the command sudo eclipse and compile the code using a makefile
that I provide. If I launch eclipse using sudo su, then launch eclipse
and after if I compile using the same makefile, the program runs. If I
try to run the executable code compiled with the option sudo eclipse in
the sudo su eclipse, it also crashes. If I execute the program made with
the option sudo su eclipse in the environment sudo eclipse it runs.
