[Bug 1090002] Re: biosdevname gives name of device as rename7 in Quantal

2013-09-27 Thread Paul Boven
Same problem on two identical machines that have dual 1Gb/s ethernet cards on
the motherboard.
This apparently causes booting to stall for about a minute, see this snippet
from syslog after a boot. These timestamps are
while the machine is booting, and hasn't gotten to the point where it presents
a login prompt.

Sep 27 15:48:31 cl1 ntpd[1432]: new interface(s) found: waking up resolver
Sep 27 15:49:54 cl1 udevd[691]: error changing net interface name rename3 to

That interface really shouldn't be renamed to p2p1 though!

BIOS device: p2p2

Assigned MAC : 00:25:90:64:6D:E9

Firmware version: 1.96, 0x890e

PCI name : :02:00.1
PCI Slot : 2
Index in slot: 2

Machines are running Raring Ringtail 3.8.0.31 (patches updated today,
didn't have this issue previously)

[Bug 1231978] Re: Thunar 1.6.3 under xubuntu 13.10 beta2 locks when browsing Trash

2013-09-27 Thread David
Another bit of Info. Switching the side pane from shortcuts to Tree
locks/freezes the window. I had to use settings editor to switch it back
to shortcut view. Seems the bug is not so much the manager but something
more under lying. I am not a dev BTW.

[Bug 1231581] Re: nVidia opencl symlink incorrect

2013-09-27 Thread Toby Smithe
Hm, yes, I have installed the package. I just reinstalled, and have the
same situation:

$ ls -l /etc/OpenCL/vendors
total 0

$ ls -l /usr/lib/libOpenCL*
zsh: no matches found: /usr/lib/libOpenCL*

I re-ran the postinst script with 'configure' as the option, and checked
the alternatives database -- but still nothing had changed. It looks
like the update-alternatives call isn't working for some reason on my
system.

[Bug 1191676] Re: package kubuntu-settings-desktop 1:13.04ubuntu13 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2013-09-27 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package kubuntu-settings - 1:13.10ubuntu11

---
kubuntu-settings (1:13.10ubuntu11) saucy; urgency=low

  * Change kubuntu-settings-desktop postinst/postrm to not ever fail despite
set -e, instead print error messages. There really is no point in us
getting bug reports because the user's foomatic setup is broken for
example (LP: #1191676)
  * Remove old kubuntu-logo-full from .install, helps a great deal with
preventing FTBFS.

[Bug 1232016] Re: Can't scan from Brother ADS-2100

2013-09-27 Thread Captain Chaos
The output of scan-image -T is as follows:

scanimage: rounded value of br-x from 215.9 to 215.88
scanimage: rounded value of br-y from 355.6 to 355.567
scanimage: sane_start: Invalid argument

All indications are that there is *some* communication with the scanner,
but then something goes wrong.

[Bug 1231828] Re: Cannot move between workspaces using CTRL+ALT+

2013-09-27 Thread Giovanni Mellini
Hi Stephen,
I found that my settings where changed during the upgrade process

This is how Section "Move within wall" appears
"Move up" binds to Prior
"Move down" dinds to Next

I resetted the bindings and now I can move between all the workspaces using
L-CTRL+ALT+
The same for section "Move with window within wall", I resetted the up/down
bindings and now it works.

As I said this was due to an upgrade from 13.04 to 13.10 so I think that
is better to assign the bug to the right owner to avoid this happening
to other users during upgrade process.

Tks
Giovanni

[Bug 1229288] Re: 13.04 unity displays heashed output

2013-09-27 Thread HamilJF
System now totally hosed. I think the partial kernel install screwed up
something horrible. Cannot get Unity to run. Can get Gnome running at about
800x600 (on a 1920x1080 screen), but that is about it. Cannot find anywhere to
get the screen to reset. Nvidia thinks I do not have an Xdriver installed and
doesn't work any better after I run its recommended 'nvidia-xconfig'.
I could seriously use some advice here, especially from the guy that suggested
I install a new kernel.

[Bug 1232016] [NEW] Can't scan from Brother ADS-2100

2013-09-27 Thread Captain Chaos
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to use my new Brother ADS-2100 double sides document scanner
with ADF in Ubuntu 13.04 64-bit, but having no luck. Scanimage reports
that it sees the scanner, but when I try to scan a page it says
"sane_start: Invalid argument". sane-find-scanner does not report seeing
the scanner at all. Simple-scan sees the scanner, but gives an error
message when I try to scan.

I know the scanner works and the problem is not with the cable or
something like that, because it works in Windows. I have also tried
another USB cable.

The output of "scanimage -L" is:

device `brother4:bus2;dev1' is a Brother ADS-2100 USB scanner

The output of "sudo scanimage -L" is the same (but it takes longer). I
will attach the output of "sane-find-scanner" and "sudo sane-find-
scanner", but both report not finding *any* USB devices, which is
strange, because doesn't scanimage also use libsane to find the scanner?

lsusb does find the scanner:

Bus 003 Device 021: ID 04f9:60a1 Brother Industries, Ltd

It does not matter which USB port I use (I had it on a hub at first, but
it doesn't work on two different USB ports on the machine itself
either).

Simple-scan does report seeing the scanner (as a "Brother ADS-2100",
which is correct), but when I try to scan something it works for a while
and then gives a red error bar saying "Failed to scan/Unable to start
scan" . I will attach screenshots and the output of "simplescan
--debug".

I followed Brother's instructions and installed the brother4 driver
using the deb from their website
(http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/download_scn.html#brscan4_ads),
as well as the deb they provide for setting the udev rules to allow
scanning by regular users
(http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public_s/id/linux/en/instruction_scn1c.html#u13.04).

I have already tried various potential solutions I found around the web:

* adding lines to /lib/udev/rules.d/40-libsane.rules or
/lib/udev/rules.d/50-udev-default.rules
* adding myself to the lp and scanner groups

None of it seemed to make any difference, and also I think Brother's
debs already take care of those things. In addition, if the problem was
with device permissions, scanning would work as root, right?

Please let me know what other information I can provide or things I can
try to get to the bottom of this!

[Bug 1231978] Re: Thunar 1.6.3 under xubuntu 13.10 beta2 locks when browsing Trash

2013-09-27 Thread David
Fault also occurs if you right click Trash in side pane even if empty.

This window might be busy and is not responding.
Do you want to terminate the application?

Once Thunar has locked and terminated the icons do not work on the
desktop nor does right click on the desktop. You can still run Thunar
from the start menu or a launch icon in the panel.

[Bug 1232015] [NEW] libxmlrpc-core-c3 replaces libxmlrpc-c3 but does not provide it

2013-09-27 Thread Alan Bell
Public bug reported:

the transitional package libxmlrpc-c3 has been dropped, it appears that
libxmlrpc-core-c3 replaces it but does not provide it. This means that
the openSIPs package for xmlrpc support http://apt.opensips.org/ and
anything else that depends on libxmlrpc-c3 can't install. I will file a
bug against that package suggesting they depend on libxmlrpc-core-c3
instead

Michael, I reproduced this from a clean boot, so maybe that's worth
pursuing to see if you can reproduce it.
