[Bug 1244587] [NEW] bcmwl breaks ethernet controller BCM4401

2013-10-25 Thread Christian S.
Public bug reported:

bcmwl blacklists module b44 in /etc/modprobe/blacklist-bcm43.conf which causes
that no driver for ethernet controller broadcom BCM4401 will be loaded.
Blacklisting module b44 by bcmwl seems unlogical because bcmwl does not offer
any driver for bcm4401.

This issue does not exists while using saucy live cd enviroment, but
after installing saucy you do not have ethernet connection

Steps to reproduce: install saucy 13.10

** Affects: bcmwl (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1242865] Re: Glade can't work with dialog windows

2013-10-25 Thread Lubos Janica
After writting my comment I tried to compile newer version. But without
success. As you wrote, Glade 3.16 requires GTK 3.10 and Glade 3.15
requires GTK 3.9.11.

Ubuntu/Kubuntu is sleeping on old GTK 3.8.4.

Therefore the newest version is 3.14.2 released 26 November 2012.

[Bug 1242258] Re: Can not make new folder nor bookmarks

2013-10-25 Thread garypeg
When you open Nautilus, you should Across the top you should read,
File, Edit, View, Go, Bookmarks, Help. Upon upgrade I have only
File.Under File I have New Window, Connect to Server, Enter
Location, Bookmarks, Preferences, About Files, Help, and Quit. Under
Bookmarks you can see the system generated bookmarks such as Download,
Desktop, Videos. (When I clicked on one of those just now Nautilus
crashed). But there is no way to make a new bookmark, including when
you right click on a folder. Make New Bookmark is grayed out.

I hope this provides enough detail.

I see now that (make) New Folder has been moved from the File to gear
icon within Nautilus. There my comment about 'can not make new folder'
is no longer a concern.

thanks

[Bug 793450] Re: Calendar applet does not show today's date

2013-10-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Just reproduced this on 13.04. I doubt this was ever fixed.

** Description changed:

- Binary package hint: gnome-panel
+ Ubuntu 11.04
+ indicator-datetime 0.3.1-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 11.10
+ indicator-datetime 0.3.94-0ubuntu2, Ubuntu 12.04
+ Ubuntu 12.10
+ indicator-datetime 12.10.3daily13.03.26-0ubuntu1, Ubuntu 13.04
+ Ubuntu 13.10

- The calendar applet (the one visible after clicking the clock) is slow
- to update its date field. Only after hiding it once, and showing it
- again will it update the date.
-
- Steps to reproduce:
  1) Log in
  2) Run a session for a day or two
  3) Open the calendar applet by clicking the clock. Although the date in the
text field is correct, the graphic calendar still shows the date at which you
either originally logged in, or clicked the calendar before.
  4) Hide it, and show it once more. The calendar now shows the correct date.

The conflicting visual data can be very confusing if you only summon the
calendar to find out what day it is. (I don't get much sunlight.)
-
- Using gnome-panel-1:2.32.1-0ubuntu6.5 on Natty.

[Bug 1218322] Re: Can't set keyboard layout change to alt+shift, ctrl+shift, etc.

2013-10-25 Thread Ratchanan Srirattanamet
I just upgrade package from -proposed on another machine. This time, I didn't
clear any setting before upgrade. The result is when i set the input switching
to Alt+Shift, it's shown as Alt+Shift+Next Group and Alt+Shift doesn't change
input language. So i cleared key org/gnome/desktop/input-sources/xkb-options in
doconf-editor and set the input switching again, it's worked as expected.
So, it seems like we only have to clear old settings in dconf, as i'm not clear
anything in /etc/default/keyboard. I think it's appropriate task of
gnome-settings-daemon. How do you think?

P.S. If anyone want to see, I've attached my /etc/default/keyboard
below.

[Bug 1244593] [NEW] 13.10 update problem

[Bug 1242307] Re: Doesn't report NTP connection problems

2013-10-25 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Thanks for the report, Audiger. Ubuntu uses the standard NTP
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Network_Time_Protocol for its time
checking. As mentioned both there and in
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuTime#Troubleshooting, NTP uses
UDP on port 123. If a public network blocks this port, the public
network is misconfigured.

That isn't the fault of indicator-datetime at all. But System Settings,
and *possibly* indicator-datetime, could display that problem and
currently don't.

[Bug 1244594] [NEW] Lighting Extension Fails to Display Data

2013-10-25 Thread Ben
Public bug reported:

As the attached screenshoot shows, thunderbird and/or the lighting
extension is not able to display its calendar data. Most of the time it
even fails to display the logos of the calendar and todo list tab. As
you may guess, I need this feature to do my work. So I would be quite
thankful for advice.

Am I the only one with this problem?

[Bug 1244592] Re: Ogre 1.8.1 libs not in the right directory

Upstream (Debian) is still using 1.8.0 and has a file list that reflects this:

This problem is caused by Ubuntu's bump to 1.8.1

[Bug 1244592] [NEW] Ogre 1.8.1 libs not in the right directory

2013-10-25 Thread Bret Curtis
Public bug reported:

The Ogre3D 1.8.1 plugins are in the wrong directory. They should either
be in OGRE-1.8 or OGRE-1.8.1 but not in OGRE-1.8.0, this causes problems

sudo ln -sf OGRE-1.8.0 OGRE-1.8.1 and rebuild or add kludge code their
respective CMake files.

[Bug 1244606] [NEW] cron-apt seems to upgrade packages by itself

2013-10-25 Thread dronus
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 10.04 used as server, cron-apt seems to trigger package
upgrades even if 'unattended-upgrades' is not installed.

I encountered several upgrades happened some time after 4:00, which
links to the default cron job and random waiting time cron-apt uses
before fetching package updates.

However, the configuration is not modified by me, and 'unattended-
upgrades' is not installed.

There are also no settings made by Gnome config tools etc. as they where
never installed.

My guess is '-o APT::Get::Show-Upgraded=true' used by /etc/cron-
apt/action.d/3-download is not working properly?

[Bug 1244608] [NEW] Incorrect icon in system tray when running VPN over mobile broadband

2013-10-25 Thread Steven Edgar
Public bug reported:

In Kubuntu 13.10, using a mobile broadband connection, connected using
Network Manager as normal, in the system tray I get a small icon of a
mobile phone, as expected. Then after using Network Manager to connect
to a VPN using OpenVPN, instead of getting the mobile phone icon with a
padlock in the system tray, as in previous versions of Kubuntu, I
instead get a mobile phone icon with a stop symbol on it (red circle
with diagonal line across it).

The icon in use here suggests that there is a problem with the network
connection, not that it is working with a VPN.

[Bug 1244612] [NEW] Mobile broadband fails to automatically connect

Public bug reported:

I have a single Mobile Broadband adapter set up in Network Manager on
Kubuntu 13.10. Under the General tab on Edit Connection for that
adapter the Automatically connect to this network when it is available
box is ticked. Whenever the adapter is connected it does not connect
automatically, instead I have to click NM in the system tray, and then
select the adapter from under Previous connections, then click
Connect. Connection is then made successfully.

[Bug 1173952] Re: Suspend and hibernate not working in 13.04/13.10 with alx module

2013-10-25 Thread rafe101
I'm not sure if this is the same issue or not.

Entering suspend automatically according to timeout and initiating it
from the menu do not work since upgrading, but I can suspend from the
terminal.

[Bug 1244608] Re: Incorrect icon in system tray when running VPN over mobile broadband

2013-10-25 Thread Steven Edgar
** Description changed:

In Kubuntu 13.10, using a mobile broadband connection, connected using
- Network Manager as normal, in the system tray I get a small icon of a
- mobile phone, as expected. Then after using Network Manager to connect
- to a VPN using OpenVPN, instead of getting the mobile phone icon with a
- padlock in the system tray, as in previous versions of Kubuntu, I
- instead get a mobile phone icon with a stop symbol on it (red circle
- with diagonal line across it).
+ Network Manager as normal, in the system tray I get a small icon saying
+ HSDPA or UMTS with a signal strength graph. Then after using Network
+ Manager to connect to a VPN using OpenVPN, instead of getting the mobile
+ phone icon with a padlock in the system tray, as in previous versions of
+ Kubuntu, I instead get a mobile phone icon with a stop symbol on it
+ (red circle with diagonal line across it).

The icon in use here suggests that there is a problem with the network
connection, not that it is working with a VPN.

[Bug 1238194] Re: keyboard doesn't work to enter password with encrypted partitions ubuntu 13.10 saucy

2013-10-25 Thread Jacob Nielsen
The fix works for me:

* Restored /etc/initramfs-tools/modules to the original state (no active lines)
and updated the initramfs
* Rebooted with break on the kernel line, no working keyboard as expected
* Enabled saucy-proposed and pinned it as per the wiki
* Installed initramfs-tools/saucy-proposed and got version 0.103ubuntu1.1 of
initramfs-tools and initramfs-tools-bin
* Updated the initramfs
* Rebooted with break on the kernel line, keyboard is functional

[Bug 1199877] Re: unity-panel-service memory leak and 100% CPU usage

2013-10-25 Thread Mateusz Stachowski
I upgraded to 13.10 in time of Final Beta release and I observed a much
higher use of RAM compared to 13.04. This is very bad to the point that
my SWAP which is 4 GB (6 GB of DDR2 RAM) becomes filled sometimes and is
always used in more than 2 GB after couple hours.

I've noticed that unity-panel-service uses large portions of RAM in one
case it was 1 GB but also I'm observing today unity-sope-home using 390
MB. Also running the command mentioned earlier:

watch -n 0,5 ps -o rss= `pgrep unity-panel`

I see that the value goes up and up and it doesn't stop. Also when
looking at terminal opened with this and using the menus of programs and
indicators the numbers start to rise up like crazy and they don't go
down.

while it's technically possible to make wandboard work with a saucy kernel,
that takes ~40 patches.
On the other hand, T already have enough bits to make that board boots and work
fine as a server: for theese reasons, i'm marking this as won't fix' in S, and
propose it for T.
