[Bug 1183429] Re: Hang on login after booting armhf container

2013-11-11 Thread JamesL
I think I'm having a closely related problem: I can successfully log in,
but if I then try to log in on another virtual terminal it hangs
(sometimes running sudo commands will also hang). Running 'ps aux' with
the working login reveals the following

root 617 2.2 0.1 4137736 5424 lxc/tty1 Ss+ 13:41 0:00
/usr/bin/qemu-arm-static /bin/login -- james

so it's waiting in a system call. cat /proc/617/syscall then gives

44 0x4 0x7fb26bfcede8 0x61 0x4000 0x0 0x0 0x7fff4d2f6560 0x600f462d

but I don't understand that output since Linux doesn't seem to have a
system call numbered 44. I've tried this a few times and get the same
result except that the 0x7f* parts are different, presumably the process
memory layout is different. The 0x600f462d part stays fixed though.

[Bug 1180396] Re: Xen stable update to 4.1.5

2013-11-11 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

  SRU Justification:

Impact: Upstream Xen has released a stable update to 4.1.5. Since
Precise and Quantal are based on 4.1 it would be gaining us bug fixes
without waiting for people to run into them. Like we do with upstream
  stable on the kernel.

Fix: Replaced the orig tarballs with the contents of the upstream stable
release. Dropping patches we have picked up already.

Testcase: Basic regression testing after upgrading.

[Bug 1247148] Re: rndc addzone isn't working. fix available

2013-11-11 Thread Charles Peters II
snippet of /etc/apparmor.d/usr.sbin.named
  # /etc/bind should be read-only for bind
  # /var/lib/bind is for dynamically updated zone (and journal) files.
  # /var/cache/bind is for slave/stub data, since we're not the origin of it.
  # See /usr/share/doc/bind9/README.Debian.gz
  /etc/bind/** r,
  /var/lib/bind/** rw,
  /var/lib/bind/ rw,
  /var/cache/bind/** lrw,
  /var/cache/bind/ rw,

Pavel's proposed solution could cause other issues with apparmor.
Furthermore Pavel should place the zone files in /var/lib/bind/.

[Bug 1247148] Re: rndc addzone isn't working. fix available

2013-11-11 Thread Pavel Piatruk
Charles,
I don't have Apparmor on this server. Yes, after changing init script from
-d /etc/bind
to
-d /var/lib/bind
Bind is still working, dynamic zones are created and served. It seems NZF files
can only be created in Bind's Currently Working Directory.

[Bug 1249828] Re: runcmd does not run if cloud-config contains apt directives

2013-11-11 Thread Scott Moser
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1124384 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1124384

Hi,
Thanks for reporting this bug and then updating it to reflect that it
occurred only when packages were upgraded (which gave me the knowledge for the
dupe).

This is fixed in 13.10, but wont be fixed in 13.04.
The only fix for 13.04 is really to either
 a.) not use 'apt_upgrade'
b.) make sure you use the latest cloud image available (which still could give
the problem, but reduces likelyhood).

The same problem. After sudo apt-get update indicator of update-notifier
doesn't appear if updates available. All files in /var/lib/update-
notifier are empty.

[Bug 1249977] [NEW] perl dependency unnecessary

2013-11-11 Thread Maximilian Schwerin
Public bug reported:

Hi,

lighttpd depends on the full perl package even though a dependency on
perl-base/ libpcre3 should be enough for the basic functionality.
Furthermore the dependency on init-system-helpers and libterm-readline-
perl-perl pull in the full perl package again. This is not a major
problem on a desktop or server system but on an embedded system the
addional 20megs of perl packages (which are not needed otherwise) are an
issue.

As far as I can see the dependency on init-system-helpers and libterm-
readline-perl-perl can be completely dropped and the dependency on perl
can be replaced by libpcre3.

Cheers, Maximilian

Re: [Bug 1208469] Re: No option to disable hostname

2013-11-11 Thread Kees de Jong
Hi Robert,

Thanks! In which Ubuntu version will this be implemented? 14.04? We're
currently using 12.04.

Two more questions. The dir /usr/share will be overwritten with
software upgrades right? Is there also a static place to put these
settings? For example: /var/lib/polkit-1/localauthority/50-local.d/?

And is there also a way to list all the possible settings? Or are all
the settings that are possible also in /usr/share/glib-2.0/schemas/?
But if there is a command to list all settings then I'm all ears.
Thank you again.

Kind regards,
Kees

[Bug 1171285] Re: intel centrino Wireless-N 1000 firmware is wrong under LTS 12.04

2013-11-11 Thread Mantas Kriaučiūnas
Could you test if your Intel Centrino Wireless-N 1000 still doesn't work with
latest Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS (with kernel linux-image-3.8.0-xx) ?
Maybe problem was only with older Linux 3.2.0 kernels?

[Bug 345374] Re: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 191 Gigabit Ethernet

2013-11-11 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
It's still a problem on Precise, even with the raring kernel.

# lspci -nn -k | grep -A 3 Ethernet
00:04.0 Ethernet controller [0200]: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 191
Gigabit Ethernet Adapter [1039:0191] (rev 02)
Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. Device [1043:825e]
Kernel driver in use: sis190
Kernel modules: sis190

With the default mtu=1500, simple browsing works _but_ NBD and NFS
mounts don't work at all (e.g. for NBD, negotiation is fine, but it
hangs if you actually try to read from /dev/nbd0).

By setting mtu=1492, everything works.

[Bug 1080674] Re: [QEMU] Corrupted desktop screen for raring desktop installation in QEMU guest (Cirrus graphics). Affects KVM but not VBox.

2013-11-11 Thread Peter Lieven
Looking further it seems that the root cause is that the CIRRUS driver
cannot be used in 12.04.3 because of this

[ 579.647] (EE) cirrus: The PCI device 0xb8 at 00@00:02:0 has a kernel module
claiming it.
[ 579.647] (EE) cirrus: This driver cannot operate until it has been unloaded.

It seems that this is caused by the DRM driver:

[ 579.639] (II) config/udev: Adding drm device (/dev/dri/card0)
[ 579.642] (--) PCI:*(0:0:2:0) 1013:00b8:1af4:1100 rev 0, Mem @
0xfc00/33554432, 0xfebf/4096, BIOS @ 0x/65536

The DRM driver is not presend/loaded in Ubuntu 12.04.2. Subsequently the CIRRUS
module loads fine
and the graphic is working as expected.

I will try if the resolution for this bug here fixes the problem:

[Bug 1245468] Re: libglib2.0-0 (2.38.0-1ubuntu1) causes eclipse/swt to crash

2013-11-11 Thread aanno
CORRECTION FOR MY COMMENT #11 ABOVE:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/java-common/+bug/1242632 is
marked as duplicate, AND I COULD VERIFY THAT THE PROBLEM GOES AWAYS IN
KUBUNTU/KDE when doing:

System Settings - Application Themes - GTK - Choose GTK2 Theme

Choose 'Radiance' instead of 'oxygen-gtk'
