[Bug 1210091] Re: Laptop lid closure suspends ongoing shutdown; later resumes shutdown
This exactly describes what I am experiencing on a clean install of 13.10 (also happened on 13.04). Kernel is currently 3.11.0-14-generic When I start shutting down, then close the lid, the computer stays on in a suspended state until I open the lid again, at which point it resumes shutting down. I have the computer configured to Do Nothing when the lid is closed as my user. Strangely when I run the gnome-control-center as root, it shows different power options. I changed these root settings to also Do Nothing in the hopes it would prevent this problem from occurring, but it still happens. Not really sure where else to go or what other information to provide. Any help or guidance would be appreciated. [Bug 1245327] Re: [Acer Aspire 5750-9668] Laptop shuts down immediately when the power cord is adjusted or power button pressed despite set otherwise
While this is inconvenient, there are bigger fish to fry, and the WORKAROUND is just be very careful in not hitting the power cord. ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Importance: Medium = Low ** Description changed: What is expected to happen is when one adjusts the power cord slightly is the computer doesn't shutdown. What happens instead is looks like it received a shutdown event. Previously, when I was using Raring with an HDD i386, a message would pop up asking if I wanted to shutdown, which I didn't. However, now that I'm using an SSD, it just immediately starts shutting down without my being able to either prevent the event altogether, or say no. This also occurs when pressing the power button. This is despite having the following set: Applications Menu - Settings Manager - Power Manager - General - When power button is pressed: Ask When power button is pressed: Do nothing + + WORKAROUND: Don't click the Power button or jiggle the point where the + power cord meets the board. [Bug 1073114] Re: Shopping Lens Does Not Respect User Privacy
On the basis of EFF recommandations, here the what's need to be done to solve this bug, considering the stagnation/progress/regession observed since Ubuntu 12.10: - Disable Include online search results by default - Nothing has been done. To do. - Explain in detail what Canonical does with search queries and IP addresses, how long it stores them, and in what circumstances it gives them to third parties - Regression since 13.10, as the untranslated legal notice is more difficut to find. It has been relegated to an obscure Diagnostics tab, in the Security and Privacy panel, in the System settings, instead of being available at the bottof right corner of the Dash. So, at leat, it needs to be translated. Also, if it has to remain in theSecurity and Privacy panel, it should be in a more properly designated tab. Also, if the online search remains activated by default, there should be some sort of proheminent popup that would ask for user attention, upon first login or first access to the Dash, refering him/her to the legal notice and asking him what he/she wants to do with online search (and related scopes). - Make the Search Results tab of the Privacy settings let users toggle on and off specific online search results, as some users might want Amazon products in their search results, but never anything from Facebook. - Some progress has been made with 13.10, as now, in adition to be able to disable onlne search, within the Security and Privacy panel, users can also deactiate some particular scopes (or sources?), by right cliking on them, in the Dash, and then clicking for deactivation. Now the process is tedious if, as an example, a user only wants 1 or 2 scopes to be activated. One solution could be to include these options in the Security and Privacy panel (which would be more coherent, if done in a proper way) with a complete list of the sources, and with some easy and quick way to turn some of them on or off. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1073114 Title: Shopping Lens Does Not Respect User Privacy To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libunity/+bug/1073114/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

boblinux, as per http://global.shuttle.com/products/productsDownload?productId=1718panelId=1 an update is available for your BIOS (1.04). [Bug 1261596] Re: [Intel S2600GZ] System crash at thread_group_cputime_adjusted
Christopher, I was only able to boot the mainline kernel by doing a (recovery mode) boot and then resuming a normal boot from there. When doing this (even with the 3.11.0-14 kernel) I'm not experiencing a crash. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1261994/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. Shriramana Sharma, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the daily folder, but the one at the top) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc4 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. [Bug 1262019] [NEW] missing binary in texlive-music package: songidx
Public bug reported: As per the documentation for songs.sty here: http://songs.sourceforge.net/songsdoc/songs.html#sec10.3 I expect a binary called songidx to exist in the path somewhere, but it is missing. [Bug 1261596] Re: [Intel S2600GZ] System crash at thread_group_cputime_adjusted
OK, good (?) news. I was able to load the v3.12-saucy kernel without using recovery mode by adding the nomodeset boot parameter (not sure why that gets past the Loading initial ramdisk hang). I almost immediately got the same kernel panic as seen in 3.11.0-14. [Bug 1236625] Re: grub-install fails to set up /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg with UEFI and LVM root
I'm running into the same issue here, similiar circumstances it sounds like. I've been trying to work around what seems like an utterly broken install process (lack of mdadm, hang at trying to not activate ubuntu one), now stuck at trying to figure out what is broken about the grub install. I'm using two redundant ssd's, mdraid, luks, and lvm in that order. I'm not sure how developers intend for a completed installation to work, but trial and error got me with what looks like this: /dev/sda -part1:efi (fat32) -part2:md0 (boot0) -part3:md1 (luks volume) |__md0-/boot (ext2) |__md1 - cryptsetup |-lv-root0 - / (ext4) |-lv-usr0 - /usr (ext4) |-lv-var0 - /var (ext4) |-lv-varlog0 - /var/log (ext4) |-lv-home0 - /home (ext4) Rinse/repeat with /dev/sdb It's a pain, I have to install gdisk and mdadm in the liveos, build the partitions, mdadm, cryptsetup, build pv/vg/lv's. format/mount the partitions under /target (this keeps the installer from demaning to format them stupid since I went through hassle to setup block-size, stride, and stripe-width), and *then* run the installer. At the partitioning, I simply set them to be ext4 and set the directory to boot, and choose the sda disk. After installing, the only thing I catch is grub failing with grub- install dummy. Looking at the df statistics, it's mounted all the partitions properly, including the efi under /boot/efi, but looks like the grub disk parsing is just broken how it's deriving the location. This would be much easier it worked like Arch and just simply used the efi partition as /boot instead of /boot/efi. Grub is setting at 2.00-19ubuntu2 once the installer is run, so should encompass this fix. What exactly is ubuntu expecting since the desktop installer isn't flexible enough to do what I need it to? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1236625 Title: grub-install fails to set up /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu/grub.cfg with UEFI and LVM root To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub2/+bug/1236625/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1262022] [NEW] incorrect multi-arch related meta information.
Public bug reported: I'm on a 64-bit system trying to install overlay-scrollbar-gtk2:i386 which depends on the overlay-scrollbar:i386 package. overlay- scrollbar:i386 doesn't have an install candidate because it's a multi- arch package. This should (or so I've been told) be reflected in the meta information of the overlay-scrollbar package but isn't, which is why the former package fails to install. As a more competent person than I put it: The overlay-scrollbar package does not come in i386 or amd64 flavors; it comes as an all flavor, which installs on all archs. It appears to be missing the Multi-Arch: allowed header so it won't satisfy an i386 package depending on it. You should file a bug report asking that the missing header be added. [Bug 1255165] Re: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out
I think this is really a request for apport, which shows the error dialog, instead of Whoopsie, which if I understand it correctly just uploads anything dumped in /var/crash to daisy.ubuntu.com. It's quite a neat system, and I may find these crash reports in /var/crash useful now that I know how to unpack them. I have some other suggestions (I'm assuming that the crash reports are still useful without the core dump included): * Add a second checkbox in the crash dialog for include core dump. * Add a warning beside this checkbox like The core dump contains the program and the data it was working with. It's size is 4032MB which may take some time to upload. * If the core dump is larger than a given size (configurable somewhere, maybe a couple of MB by default) then untick the option in the dialog so that it's not included by default. Or maybe untick the box by default in every case. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1255165 Title: make it clearer that crash files may contain private data and make it easier to opt out To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/whoopsie/+bug/1255165/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
