[Bug 1195148] Re: 10de:11bc [Dell Precision M6700] With external monitor plugged, this system cannot be suspended by closing the lid

2013-12-26 Thread Po-Hsu Lin
It doesn't change anything with A11 BIOS and 3.5.0-44.

Step:
1. Boot to desktop, plug the D-Sub cable, make sure the external display works
2. Close the lid

Expected results:
* System could be suspended

Actual results:
* both display on external monitor and laptop screen were off, but it was not
suspended. Power LED was not blinking, and if you move the external mouse with
lid closed, the external display will be back.

sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

[Bug 1250550] Re: Java plugin crash

2013-12-26 Thread erny
I just tested it yesterday, but in Ubuntu 12.04 with security and
updates repos enabled, the installed version:

31.0.1650.63 Ubuntu 12.04 (31.0.1650.63-0ubuntu0.12.04.1~20131204.1)

it still appends.

The good news is that I found a quick hack to make it work:

sudo su
apt-get install bbe
cp -a /usr/lib/chromium-browser /usr/lib/chromium-browser.bak
cd /usr/lib/chromium-browser
for f in `rgrep -l libnet .`
do
  bbe -e 's/libnet/libxet/' $f > $f.new
  mv -f $f.new $f
done
mv libs/libnet.so libs/libxet.so
mv libs/libnet_with_v8.so libs/libxet_with_v8.so
chmod +x chromium-browser

You can check that all dependencies are fullfilled:
ldd chromium-browser

[Bug 828756] Re: getting "connection is untrusted" warnings

2013-12-26 Thread Dennis Schridde
I get this error within my Enlightenment session.

I originally installed Ubuntu as Bodhi, but then disabled its
repositories and have since reinstalled *every* package with --force-
confnew --force-confask to get rid of this issue. This did not help at
all.

What did help is the instruction in comment #39. Instructions for E17:
* Settings Console -> Applications -> Desktop Environments:
   + Start GNOME Services on login
* Settings Console -> Applications -> Autostart Applications:
   + PolicyKit Authentication Agent (this bug is also reported against p11-kit,
so I figured I might enable it, even though it seems unrelated)
   + Certificate And Key Storage (this is probably the most important one, but
I did not bother to test it alone)
   + Secret Storage Service
   + GPG Password Agent
   + SSH Key Agent

Please note that *both* settings were necessary. Just starting the GNOME
Services did not help.

[Bug 1264444] [NEW] Please remove or rename this package

2013-12-26 Thread Ma Xiaojun
Public bug reported:

I'm Chinese and I do know how necessary encoding conversion is for
Japanese and Chinese people.

However, as pointed out by another Japanese Debian developer, ack is pretty
much useless today:
http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=662114

There is a more viable open source project also want to use the name ack:
http://beyondgrep.com/

The above tool is currently referred as ack-grep in Debian/Ubuntu.
It should be referred as ack as in many other OS/distribution.

As Ubuntu has command-not-found enabled by default, people may type

[Bug 1193716] Re: Monitor turns off after 10 minutes of inactivity despite the fact that XScreensaver has been removed from Lubuntu

2013-12-26 Thread stavros daliakopoulos
The solution is public since November 13.

http://forum.manjaro.org/index.php?topic=8403.0

http://openbox.org/wiki/Help:Autostart

To run commands for all users system-wide, place them in a similar file in
/etc/xdg/openbox/autostart

Although DPMS can be configured, you can also just switch them off. To
do so, add the following to the top of your openbox autostart file:

Code: [Select]
## DPMS - Display Power Management Settings
## These are disabled by default to prevent auto-actions when
## the system is idle, such as screen blanking (10 mins) or
## suspending (1 hour).
xset -dpms; xset s off &

[Bug 1264338] Re: could not route the host for container

2013-12-26 Thread markshao
Hi Robie

Thank you so much for your reply. I don't know whether it is a bug for
the lxc of ubuntu . But I will try to describe the issue I met in
detail.

My Lxc version is:
lxc version: 0.7.5

My Operation system information as following
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 12.04.3 LTS

My purpose is to create the container and execute the command remotely
on the new container. I think the lxclite is just the wrapper for the
standard lxc tool . I currently write a simple demo to show the issue .

The following is the test case 1

#!/usr/bin/python

import commands
from fabric.api import settings
from fabric.operations import run
import sys

def main():
result = commands.getstatusoutput("lxc-create -t ubuntu -n test")
if result[0] != 0:
sys.exit(1)
result = commands.getstatusoutput("lxc-start -d -n test")
if result[0] != 0:
sys.exit(1)

result = commands.getstatusoutput("awk '{ print $4,$3 }'
/var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases | column -t | grep test |awk '{print $2}'")

ip = result[1]
print ip

with settings(host_string=ip,user="ubuntu",password="ubuntu"):
print run("whoami",shell=True)

if __name__ == "__main__":
main()

The above test code just use python module to call the standard lxc tool
, and then using the fabric to execute the command on the new container.

The IP address for the new container could be extract correctly , but
the remote command execution will not work due to the low level socket
error as following

fabric.exceptions.NetworkError: Low level socket error connecting to
host 10.0.3.223 on port 22: No route to host (tried 1 time)

I check the info for the container
> lxc-info -n test
state:   RUNNING
pid: 14646

The test case 2 is that I keep the container running , and just run the
code  for remote command execution

#!/usr/bin/python

from fabric.api import settings
from fabric.operations import run

import commands

result = commands.getstatusoutput("awk '{ print $4,$3 }'
/var/lib/misc/dnsmasq.leases | column -t | grep test |awk '{print $2}'")

ip = result[1]

print ip
with settings(host_string=ip,user="ubuntu",password="ubuntu"):
print run("whoami",shell=True)
~
And it will work , the output is :
[10.0.3.223] run: whoami
[10.0.3.223] out: ubuntu
[10.0.3.223] out:

ubuntu

My personal opinion is that after the lxc-create and lxc-start , the lxc
tool may have update some network information on the system so that the
system can route the ip to the right place .

In test case 1, all the steps on in one process , so the process may not
know the update information for the network . Maybe I need some code to
reimport the network information into the process .

Due to I am a new guy in lxc , I don't have any concept about it . So
hope you can help me , thanks .

[Bug 1264426] Re: Appletouch driver moves cursor in steps

2013-12-26 Thread Clinton
** Description changed:

  When using the appletouch driver on a Macbook 3,1, the cursor moves in
- noticable horizontal or vertical 'steps'. This is particularly
+ noticeable horizontal or vertical 'steps'. This is particularly
  noticeable when dragging a diagonal line. This can make the trackpad
  very difficult to use, as it becomes hard to hone in on small objects,
  particularly if the user has opted for a faster cursor. This issue is
  also described in a forum thread:
  http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=813884&page=6

  There is a workaround that involves modifying and recompiling
  appletouch.c with a couple of changes. This is also detailed in bug
  #1034132.

  Original:
  #define ATP_FUZZ 16
  #define ATP_THRESHOLD 5

  New:
  #define ATP_FUZZ 0
  #define ATP_THRESHOLD 2

  This makes the trackpad much more usable, though slight stepping is
- still noticable. I've found the modification below seems to provide a
+ still noticeable. I've found the modification below seems to provide a
  small amount of additional smoothness:

  Original:
  pcum += (xy_sensors[i] - threshold) * i;
  psum += (xy_sensors[i] - threshold);

  New:
  pcum += (xy_sensors[i]) * i;
  psum += (xy_sensors[i]);

  Regression testing will be necessary on the earlier (pre-geyser 4)
  models to rule out the possibility that these changes would just be
  trading better behavior for some models at the expense of others; if
  that were the case, some conditional logic would be in order.

  I expect this bug to hit a larger audience as owners of Macbooks too old
  for OS X Mavericks begin to migrate to Linux.

[Bug 1264148] Re: dbus blocking all graphical logins

2013-12-26 Thread Seth Arnold
Just for confirmation -- the ubuntu-bug attached files here are from
Saucy, but the bug happened under Raring, correct?

The dbus version listed in the Dependencies.txt file would certainly
have the ability to block specific dbus-messages via AppArmor
configuration; the version in Raring should not have had that ability,
unless you were playing around with pre-release AppArmor packages. Of
course there's some policy mechanisms in pre-Saucy Dbus as well, but I'm
much less familiar with that...

For information on the Saucy AppArmor Dbus integration, check out
http://penguindroppings.wordpress.com/2013/10/18/application-isolation-
with-apparmor-part-iii/

Since you've still got your Raring install around, it'd be nice to know
the version of the dbus, apparmor, and linux-image* packages installed,
and logging from the /var/log/syslog at the time of a failed login
attempt. That'll help us figure out where to place the blame.

Thanks

Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1264213] Re: PCI/internal sound card not detected

2013-12-26 Thread slowtrain
I took some severe measures (dpkg remove, ignore dependencies) to
eliminate the audio ppa software from my system and reinstall the base
software and kernel modules. Rebooted. Still no luck. Then
reinstalled the ppa software with the long line of install code at
SoundTroubleshootingProcedure in the Ubuntu Community Documentation. My
audio is now working again. Still, took hours and a lot of
experimentation to get to this point. It would be better if audio
wasn't fragile to occasional hard shutdowns.

[Bug 1264430] [NEW] Checking for text mode should be in plymouth and not in inidividual window managers

2013-12-26 Thread rminsk
Public bug reported:

gdm and lightdm in their upstart files have code similar to:

for ARG in $(cat /proc/cmdline); do
  if [ "$ARG" = "text" ]; then
plymouth quit || :
stop
exit 0
  fi
done

Bug #893764 request the same code be added to kdm.

This seems like this check should be refactored out of the display
managers and added to plymouth. Plymouth upstart could check for text
mode and emit some sort of start window manager if text mode is not on
the kernel cmdline.

[Bug 744812] Re: FontConfig/Qt stack choke on Ubuntu Medium font meta-data (No medium in Inkscape and too bold in Qt apps)

2013-12-26 Thread BubuXP
I'm using Ubuntu font family in Debian Sid (Xfce) and I still get this bug when
using VLC (that uses Qt).
I'm not a developer, nor a programmer, but after reading the whole report and
found where the bug lies, I've managed to fix it copying the method used for
the Delicious font in conf.avail/80-delicious.conf and adapting it for the
Ubuntu font.

I attached the file to put in /etc/fonts/conf.d/ or in
~/.config/fontconfig/conf.d/ but the code for Ubuntu Medium Italic doesn't work
(when Regular Italic is used for interface, Medium Italic is still used in
VLC/Qt). Probably it's very easy to someone more experienced than me to fix
this patch for correct Medium Italic handling.
After that I have to rebuild the font cache as root (sudo) and as user, or it
doesn't work.

Is a possible solution to bring this file (properly fixed) with ubuntu font deb
package?
In case it should be placed in /usr/share/fontconfig/conf.avail/ and symlinked
to /etc/fonts/conf.d/

I'm using those libraries versions, if it matters:
Fontconfig ver.: 2.11.0-2
FreeType ver.: 2.5.2-1

[Bug 1264338] Re: could not route the host for container

2013-12-26 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

As far as I can tell, lxclite does not ship with Ubuntu. If this is a
bug in lxc as shipped in Ubuntu, rather than in lxclite or your local
configuration, then it should be possible to reproduce the bug using the
standard lxc tools only.

You also haven't included any version information your bug report.

Please can you provide exact steps to reproduce using the standard lxc
tools only, state what version of lxc you are using and on what Ubuntu
release, and then change the bug status back to New?

[Bug 894560] Re: Kernel 3.2: Please set 'led_mode' parameter of module iwlwifi to 1

2013-12-26 Thread Yuriy Vidineev
On ThinkPad T530 with 3.11.0-14-generic I have a non-blinking LED. So
for me this bug is not reproducing.

cat /sys/module/iwlwifi/parameters/led_mode
0

Looks like 0 it's some 'system default' value
parm:   led_mode:0=system default, 1=On(RF On)/Off(RF Off), 2=blinking,
3=Off (default: 0) (int)

It's unclear for me how can I determine (and change) this default value.

[Bug 1264426] [NEW] Appletouch driver moves cursor in steps

2013-12-26 Thread Clinton
Public bug reported:

When using the appletouch driver on a Macbook 3,1, the cursor moves in
noticable horizontal or vertical 'steps'. This is particularly
noticeable when dragging a diagonal line. This can make the trackpad
very difficult to use, as it becomes hard to hone in on small objects,
particularly if the user has opted for a faster cursor. This issue is
also described in a forum thread:
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=813884&page=6

There is a workaround that involves modifying and recompiling
appletouch.c with a couple of changes. This is also detailed in bug
#1034132.

Original:
#define ATP_FUZZ 16
#define ATP_THRESHOLD 5

New:
#define ATP_FUZZ 0
#define ATP_THRESHOLD 2

This makes the trackpad much more usable, though slight stepping is
still noticable. I've found the modification below seems to provide a
small amount of additional smoothness:

Original:
pcum += (xy_sensors[i] - threshold) * i;
psum += (xy_sensors[i] - threshold);

New:
pcum += (xy_sensors[i]) * i;
psum += (xy_sensors[i]);

[Bug 1263576] Re: coinor-osi fails to build from source on arm64 (but did succeed before)

2013-12-26 Thread William Grant
This seems to be a gcc bug with very negative vcall_offsets in aarch64
multiple inheritance thunks. http://paste.ubuntu.com/6637563/ is an
example of two consecutive thunks, with the second adding 263 instead of
subtracting 264. aarch64_build_constant seems to not handle negative
integers. I tried a quick gcc patch to avoid using
aarch64_build_constant, and the coinor-osi tests succeed.

[Bug 1133835] Re: [Gigabyte M57SLI-S4] Ubuntu 12.10 immediately wakes up after suspend

2013-12-26 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
David Tombs, thank you for testing the requested kernel. Now, could you please
delete the .deb files you recently created, and execute the following via a
terminal (the expectation is that this kernel would demonstrate this problem):
cd ~/Desktop/linux-stable && git checkout
966f1212e1ac5fe3ddf04479d21488ddb36a2608 && cp /boot/config-`uname -r` .config

[Bug 921714] Re: Macbook overheating

2013-12-26 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
mdgill, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

If reproducible, could you also please test the latest upstream kernel
available (not the daily folder) following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional
upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested the upstream
kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this
bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.13-rc5

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

This was with version 2.20.1-5.1ubuntu9 in 13.10 Saucy Salamander

I believe this to be fixed in version 2.23.
However util-linux 2.23 isn't in 14.04 Trusty Tahr either. :(

Can someone pull util-linux 2.23 into trusty?

[Bug 1252421] Re: application help cannot be opened - yelp is missing

2013-12-26 Thread ianorlin
I get the same message but looking more on packages.ubuntu.com. One
thing is the package gnumeric doc which has yelp as depency is listed as
a recomend but not installed in lubuntu by defualt. I am seeing after a
new install in lubuntu and to install gnumeric. Also to install
gnumeric-doc will take 48 more megabytes of space which would increase
the size of the iso which for lubuntu is intended to fit on a cd so
needs to be under 700 mb. I could get yelp to launch with sudo apt-get
install  gnumeric-doc.

Thanks Alan, confirmed here that fixing the prototypes of the signal
functions resolves the testsuite failure. I'm uploading gtk+3.0 to Ubuntu
now with this patch.

2013-12-26 Thread David Tombs
Oops, I already compiled it by time you replied without
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO and have been testing since. Suspend seems to work
fine with this build. I'm curious, where did you come up with that
commit?

I'll leave this as Incomplete per your previous comment. If you want me
to rebuild with completely the same config I will.

2013-12-26 Thread Teh_Messiah
ok, I just fixed mine by removing the new Nvidia drivers.

sudo apt-get purge nvidia-*

Then I installed the older version of nvidia.

sudo apt-get install nvidia-304

Then I rebooted and I got desktop. :-)

[Bug 1223851] Re: [Samsung NP550P5C-T01AR] High CPU load after resuming on in BIOS mode

2013-12-26 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Agustin Barto, thank you for fully commit bisecting the kernel. Given the root
cause is suspected to be a poorly written BIOS version, and because Samsung
does not easily reveal what the latest BIOS is for this model, could you please
download the latest firmware software as per
http://www.samsung.com/ar/support/model/NP550P5C-T01AR-downloads, and advise if
a BIOS update is available? If so, when you update to this, does it change
anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and
provide the output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Thank you for your understanding.
