[Bug 164120] Re: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible
In Ubuntu 12.04, after installing autofs and setting up nfs autofs mounts, my nautilus temporarily hangs (window greys, freezes, becomes unresponsive) when navigating local directories, if the server exporting the autofs nfs mounts is offline. This is observed even when navigating local directories that do not contain any of the autofs mount points, i.e. navigating somewhere under /home, with autofs nfs mount points that are somewhere under /var. Although the hang is temporary, it's a long temporary. I noticed a previous comment suggesting that using separate threads could fix this problem in nautilus, even if the problem could technically be attributed to nfs or autofs. Sounds sensible. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/164120 Title: file manager hangs when mounted nfs drive is no longer accessible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/dolphin/+bug/164120/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1309586] Re: enable CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM
Documentation/cgroups/memory.txt: 2.7 Kernel Memory Extension (CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM) With the Kernel memory extension, the Memory Controller is able to limit the amount of kernel memory used by the system. Kernel memory is fundamentally different than user memory, since it can't be swapped out, which makes it possible to DoS the system by consuming too much of this precious resource. Kernel memory won't be accounted at all until limit on a group is set. This allows for existing setups to continue working without disruption. The limit cannot be set if the cgroup have children, or if there are already tasks in the cgroup. Attempting to set the limit under those conditions will return -EBUSY. When use_hierarchy == 1 and a group is accounted, its children will automatically be accounted regardless of their limit value. After a group is first limited, it will be kept being accounted until it is removed. The memory limitation itself, can of course be removed by writing -1 to memory.kmem.limit_in_bytes. In this case, kmem will be accounted, but not limited. Kernel memory limits are not imposed for the root cgroup. Usage for the root cgroup may or may not be accounted. The memory used is accumulated into memory.kmem.usage_in_bytes, or in a separate counter when it makes sense. (currently only for tcp). The main kmem counter is fed into the main counter, so kmem charges will also be visible from the user counter. Currently no soft limit is implemented for kernel memory. It is future work to trigger slab reclaim when those limits are reached. ** Also affects: linux (Ubuntu Trusty) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Trusty) Status: New = In Progress ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu Trusty) Assignee: (unassigned) = Tim Gardner (timg-tpi) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1309586 Title: enable CONFIG_MEMCG_KMEM To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1309586/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1309589] [NEW] System tray management
Public bug reported: When installing the application Bomgar, it by default it has a system tray icon in literally every linux distro imaginable, but not in Ubuntu 14.04 because there's no 'indicator' for it and no way to edit it via dconf-editor. In 12.04 we could use dconf-editor to determine what icons appeared in the system tray, we can not with 14.04. Despite installing xchat- indicator and enabling 'minimize to system tray', all it does is create a launch button under the 'Messages' icon, it doesn't actually minimize to the system tray. So if you minimize your XChat, it's lost and gone. The system for managing the system tray in 12.04 wasn't great, it was workable, but in 14.04 it's absolutely absurd. There's thousands of applications with system tray icons that have no 'indicator'. Many applications minimize to system tray and without that icon the user is just out of luck as they can't get their application back. Sometimes it requires multiple clicks, but usually when this happens I have to right click the application icon on the quick launcher and select quit to close the window. This has occurred on multiple applications firefox, nautilus, pithos, and software center are the most recent that I can remember for example, and I am assuming this is an issue with Unity on my system. I expect windows to always close within a short amount of time after clicking the X. Other possible Unity related oddities which are occurring on my system which may be related to this issue... Control-Alt-T will sometimes not open a terminal, I might have to press the combination 4 or 5 times to get terminal to open. [Bug 1281250] Re: VNC accessible for Windows machines only with encryption disabled
@Holger: yes --- I just noticed it too. I humbly suggest that Canonical or Redhat help the vino developers to add a more common encryption type to the vino server. It is the default (and the facto only) remote vnc server in our system, and in its current state forces everyone to connect **in clear** on the local network. All what you type is sent as is. I have worked around it wrapping the thing in a SSH tunnel, but still, it's sensible to local attacks and I think it's not a solution for the average user. @Sebastian, I am not sure if this is a security thing --- after all, before the switch, all the connections were silently made without encryption, but it's scary nevertheless --- sniffing for traffic on port 5900 is easy enough. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1281250 Title: VNC accessible for Windows machines only with encryption disabled To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/vino/+bug/1281250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
