[Bug 1328984] Re: Regression: Kernel 3.2.0-64 fails to boot with USB3 controller card

2014-06-13 Thread Maciej Puzio
I'm attaching the file generated by command:
apport-cli -f -p linux --save bug1328984.apport
This was done with the machine running 12.04 Server with kernel 3.2.0-63.

May I ask for the reply to my question about the results of testing the
problem on a different hardware? (The regression has been reproduced,
but symptoms are somewhat different, and I worry about confusion which
may result from mixing discussion about two hardware configurations. On
the other hand, I am reluctant to start a new bug report, as this
appears to be a single bug.)

[Bug 80900] Re: Avahi daemon prevents resolution of FQDNs ending in ".local" due to false negatives in the detection of ".local" networks

2014-06-13 Thread Lukas Vacek
Re #43: the rest of the world (android, iphone, os x, ...) does fallback
to dns when mdns fails though! Maybe that's something to consider.

Also most of the points mentioned there are simply not true when DNS is
used only as a fallback for .local domain when mDNS fails.

[Bug 1326271] Re: need a setting to activate wifi hotspot

2014-06-13 Thread Jussi Pakkanen
> But I think specifying hotspot details without it turning on as a result,
> and not being able to change them while it was turned on, would both
> be a bit surprising.

Why would that be surprising? That is exactly how one would expect it to
work, especially the latter one. Being able to edit the settings while
the hotspot is on is disconcerting because you could not tell whether
the changes you have typed have taken hold or not. I would assume people
would toggle the hotspot on and off just to make sure of it.

> This doesn't seem so bad now, while we allow only WEP, WPA Personal,
or open hotspots.

We really should not be offering any other hotspot types than WPA.
Devices that can't do WPA are extremely rare these days. In comparison
both the iPhone and Jolla phones only allow you to set up a WPA hotspot.
The two main reasons for this are:

- makes implementing the functionality massively simpler
- unencrypted and WEP connections are a major security problem

We should be (and indeed are) able to connect to open and WEP networks
but we should not be setting them up ourselves.

[Bug 1329749] Re: Wrong GTK icon size for volume?

2014-06-13 Thread POJAR GEO
GNOME Shell 3.12 and GTK+ 3.12 Available In The Ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn
Repositories
GTK+ is always changing (and breaking) things like this.

 In GTK+ 3.10, toolbar icons default to 24x24, while the volume button defaults
to 18x18.
In GTK+ 3.12, there are curiously enough two separate changes that each would
have solved the problem: [1] changed the default size for the volume button to
16x16, which prevents the scaling, and [2] switched to using symbolic icons,
which are rendered as black and thus happen to match. Regardless of the GTK+
changes, [3] solves the problem by setting the volume icon size to 24x24 to
match the rest of the buttons.

Thanks for clarifying. Just wondering, this appears then to users as if
the download has been cancelled, so either we really cancel instead of

[Bug 1329749] [NEW] Wrong GTK icon size for volume?

2014-06-13 Thread Triniton Adam
Public bug reported:

I'm using Gnomeradio on Ubuntu 14.10. The problem has been nagging me for some
time it has not appeared with Ubuntu 14.04.
The problem is that the volume icon has the wrong appearance: is is using small
icons for the toolbar icons.
Is there a reason for Gnomeradio to use a different size as a source for the
volume icon than the other buttons of the toolbar?

[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates

2014-06-13 Thread zig59
Hi David,

I'm not expecting bluemantest to actually resolve my problem as I can already
pair and connect but not route to my headphones. Anyway anything is worth a
shot at the moment so I tried to install the file through Synaptic but am
getting a fail with the message "E: blueman: subprocess installed
post-installation script returned error exit status 101". The program seems to
have partially installed but won't run.
The log is reporting:
Processing triggers for man-db (2.6.7.1-1) ...
Setting up blueman (1.23-git201403102151-1ubuntu2~diwicppa) ...

Furthermore, as a point of confirmation I didn't have the official Blueman
Manager installed when I could connect/pair and see my headphones in Sound
Settings. As soon as I installed the official Blueman my headphones no longer
appeared Sound Settings.

Also, I tried Stuart's solution (post #69) but it refused to allow me to
specify the High Fidelity option by keeping switching it back to Off.

Regards

[Bug 1326271] Re: need a setting to activate wifi hotspot

2014-06-13 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Yes, that would be possible. But I think specifying hotspot details
without it turning on as a result, and not being able to change them
while it was turned on, would both be a bit surprising.

It would also mean two presentations, and perhaps two implementations,
of all the design and validation details for different network types.
 For
example, that the Start/Change button "should be insensitive whenever
the 'Key:' field contains fewer than 8 characters, more than 64
characters, or exactly 64 characters where any of them are not
hexadecimal". This doesn't seem so bad now, while we allow only WEP, WPA
Personal, or open hotspots. But the duplication would get steadily worse
the more possibilities we offered.

That's why I say the same dialog should be used everywhere: For
connecting to an encrypted broadcast network, for "Connect to Other
Network", for "Network Details" for a previous network, and for "Set Up
Hotspot"/"Change Hotspot Setup". In the last three cases, only the title
and buttons should change.

Your question did make me realize I omitted the titles for the dialog.
Fixed.

[Bug 1329738] [NEW] Plugging in camera, Device Notifier popup has duplicate entry

2014-06-13 Thread Graeme Hewson
Public bug reported:

When I plug in my camera, Device Notifier pops up as usual saying there

This started with Kubuntu 14.04. Possibly related to

[Bug 264313] Re: ls --color hangs for directories linked from network

2014-06-13 Thread Thorsten Frank
I can confirm this on Ubuntu 14.04, but as has been pointed out, I don't
really expect a "fix" to this. However, the workaround at first didn't
work for me until I'd figured out that you ALSO have to make sure that
you don't have an alias set for ls which uses the "-F" option.

"-F" tries the same as the "or=..."-Option in dircolors - it categorizes
the files in a directory listing, and therefore tries to determine
whether or not a symlink is broken.

To determine whether the workaround works for you, try this:

eval `dircolors -b | sed s/or=[^:]*://`
\ls -l --colors=auto

The backslash in front of the ls-command circumvents any set aliases, so
you get the real behaviour of exactly the following command.

that file into mawk using the {FS=","} within the brackets, the first line of
output is as if the field separator was still a space instead of the comma that
I specified. From the second line onwards, the comma field separator is
honoured.
The first three lines of output from the command I am using are:
$ cat LUN.csv | awk '{FS=","} {print
$2","$5","$14","$17","$20","$23","$26","$29","$32","$35","$77","$78","$79","$80","$81","$82","$83","$84","$85","$86","$87","$88","$89","$90","$91","$92","$93","$94","$95","$96","$97","$98}'

If I try the command using the -F "," flag instead the first line of output
also has the comma field separator honoured.
The first three lines of output from the command I am using are:
$ cat LUN.csv | awk -F "," '{print

I would expect that the behaviour of both would be the same, and specifically
that of the {FS=","} would be applied to the first line as well as all
following lines.

The attached file is the head of the file I am using so you can test.

The version I am using is on kubuntu 13.10, the version information output is:
$ mawk -W version
mawk 1.3.3 Nov 1996, Copyright (C) Michael D. Brennan

[Bug 1194003] [NEW] In synaptic, it is't possible to enter legitimation data for manual proxy configuration

2014-06-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Version Mint 15 64bit Olivia (German localization)
synaptic version  0.80~exp2

I want to enter legitimation data for a manual proxy configuration
(synaptic - settings - network - manual proxy configuration -
legitimation). The corresponding entry box appears, but it is greyed and
doesn't allow any entries.

Because I have to use this proxy mechanism, it's not possible to update
Mint or add software (software center uses the settings from synaptic,
as far as I can see)

[Bug 1329726] [NEW] Get message: The specified camera ("/org/kde/solid/udev/...") is not supported

I'm using a Canon Digital Ixus 800 IS, but others report the same

[Bug 1329719] [NEW] cloud-init does not bring up all bridge interfaces created with openvswitch

2014-06-13 Thread gadLinux
Public bug reported:

Hi,

In my systems (all of them where I have openstack), I found that cloud-
init does not perform well. Mainly because the bridges I have were
created with ovs.

Since they are not ready at boot time it seems that the system got
stalled for a few mins. And after boot not all services recover.

For example rbdmap is not called again after the net is up.

It may be the order where the things are done. Or maybe something worse.
The problem is that cloud-init stalls for 2 mins on boot. RBD doesn't
run because cloud-init starts in nonet mode. And the whole system
becomes broken.

It's curious that ceph-osd are re-run after net is up. So some scripts
are relaunched. In fact two times. So they start to work well. But some
others no.

root@red-compute:~# ovs-vsctl show

Bridge br-int
Port "eth1"
Interface "eth1"
Port br-int
Interface br-int
type: internal
ovs_version: "2.0.1"

root@red-compute:~# cat /etc/network/interfaces
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).

# The loopback network interface

 up ifconfig $IFACE 0.0.0.0 up
up ip link set $IFACE promisc on

down ifconfig $IFACE down

auto eth1
iface eth1 inet manual
 up ifconfig $IFACE 0.0.0.0 up
down ifconfig $IFACE down

auto br-int
iface br-int inet dhcp

And when I boot up, cloudinit does not find the interfaces so no network
is up.

I have to take an screenshot of the issue. The problem is that rbd
storage is not boot up because cloudinit does not find the interfaces to
connect to the intranet (because it's a bridge), and all the system
becomes a nightmare.

[Bug 1329713] Re: dpkg-buildflags not honored by dpkg-buildpackage

2014-06-13 Thread Nico Schlömer
Minimal Debian package to highlight the misbehavior.

Unpack and execute
```
dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot -b
[Bug 1329712] [NEW] Lack of signal is not obvious
2014-06-13 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Public bug reported:
1. Go somewhere you have no cellular signal, for example a tunnel or basement.
2. Look at the status bar.
What you see: The same cellular signal icon as usual, just with zero
bars.
What you should see: Something more obvious.
[Bug 1328595] Re: lvcreate -s hangs when overlayfs is in use
2014-06-13 Thread Dirk Fleischer
As mentioned I already tested with a Kernel from 13.10 with the same
result.
To be sure I installed a minimal Ubuntu 13.10 in a virtual machine and did the
steps to reproduce the issue.
-> The Problem existed in 13.10 as well.
df@ubuntu-bug-check:~$ cat /etc/issue
Ubuntu 13.10 \n \l
sudo mount -t overlayfs -o lowerdir=/usr,upperdir=/mnt/delta overlayfs /mnt/test
sudo lvcreate -s -n backup -L512M /dev/ubuntu-vg/root
-> Hang
I will attach the dmesg output to this post.
A test using a mainline kernel does not work, because overlayfs is not (yet) in
mainline:
df@feretti-virt:~$ uname -r
3.15.0-031500-generic
df@feretti-virt:~$ sudo mount -t overlayfs -o lowerdir=/usr,upperdir=/mnt/delta
overlayfs /mnt/test
mount: unknown filesystem type 'overlayfs'
So I will set the tag to 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Please change that in case there is a tag better fitting the situation.
Thanks for looking into it.
[Bug 1329700] [NEW] Sending encrypted mails creates false information on mails in Inbox
2014-06-13 Thread Alexander Buchner
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***
Public security bug reported:
Steps to reproduce:
1. In Thunderbird: Go to your Inbox and select an unencrypted and unsigned mail
and look at it in the message pane.
2. Hit CTRL+N to write a new Mail.
3. Hit CTRL+Shift+E to encrypt this mail. (If not already done by deafult)
4. Hit CTRL+Shift+S to sign this mail. (If not already done by deafult)
5. Complete the mail with recipient, subject and text.
6. Send it.
7. Now just look at the (unencrypted & unsigned) mail from step 1 again.
It is still displayed but now the symbols for encryption and signature
appear and it is stated that this mail was signed by myself, which is
obviously not true.
Tested on Ubuntu 14.04, Thunderbird 24.5.0, enigmail 2:1.5.2-0ubuntu1
[Bug 1243806] Re: The names column has its width dictated by other columns
For me the problem is when you search in folders with deep nesting ; one
hit in a deeper folder and your Name column is compressed to an
ellipsis.
I think it should be the location column that's compressed (by omission
of some text).
[Bug 1329697] [NEW] Rename box often invisible
2014-06-13 Thread M4he
Public bug reported:
The current version in the 14.04 repo (1.8.4) contains the following bug:
When trying to rename a file via right-click -> "Rename..." the entire rename
box turns completely invisible (no border, no text) preventing any actual
renaming operation without guessing the letter positions. This often happens
when the view is scrolled down and a file is to be renamed which was not
visible before scrolling down i.e. a file at the bottom of the list.
This has been fixed upstream. I've singled out the GitHub commits that fix this
issue:
https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/commit/f54c1ed253e266ae947c5e51698583654fb61084.patch
https://github.com/linuxmint/nemo/commit/d5377cfd53034b6ab5588376322126f48782ec59.patch
I've reproduced the bug and confirmed the fix using the patches on 2
machines running Xubuntu 14.04.
[Bug 1328908] Re: libreoffice draw / impress crash if user service publishing is disabled in avahi
2014-06-13 Thread Philipp Kern
So I pointed out on the bug this was duplicated to why I did that. I
find it tiring that you still chose to fight the duplication without any
comment. Can you please provide a rationale? Otherwise I'll dupe it to
the other bug again. Thanks.
Public bug reported:
/build/buildd/charls-1.0/encoderstrategy.h:81: void
EncoderStrategy::AppendToBitStream(LONG, LONG): Assertion `bitpos >=0'
[Bug 1283003] Re: [Bluetooth + 14.04] Bluetooth headsets are not working after last couple of updates
2014-06-13 Thread David Henningsson
Thanks Sebastian! Based on what was written in the github report, I've
just commented out the module unloading that blueman does, built the
result and put it in a ppa here:
https://launchpad.net/~diwic/+archive/bluemantest
It is possible that blueman messes with more stuff so that just
commenting out this part does not resolve the problem, but it's worth a
try.
So, anybody wants to try the blueman in this ppa, reboot, and see if
this fixes the headset pairing issue?
IMO, it's better to use @mydatadir@ instead of @datadir@ here and...
... here.  Otherwise it may be confusing.
Other than that, the change looks good to me.
Jaroslav, could you fix up quickly in your side?
[Bug 1329691] [NEW] This program uses explicit PATH
2014-06-13 Thread Muhammad Yunus Ahmad Mazuki
Public bug reported:
ncl was added to Ubuntu repository in 14.04. Previously to run ncl you need to
install the binary from the ncl website.
As can be seen in http://www.ncl.ucar.edu/Download/install.shtml . This program
use an explicit PATH $NCARG_ROOT for all its own files and example of scripts
to be used with ncl. Even running ncl own example (in ncl website) of testing
whether ncl is running properly 'ng4ex gsun01n -clean' will gives you error. In
binary installation there will be 3 folders inside $NCARG_ROOT, which is
$NCARG_ROOT/lib/ncarg $NCARG_ROOT/bin and $NCARG_ROOT/include/ncarg. Using
installation through apt-get, I determine the folders which will contain the
ncl files are /usr/share/ncarg /usr/bin and /usr/include/ncarg. You see here I
believe $NCARG_ROOT will be /usr, but the thing is there is no /usr/lib/ncarg
because it is actually /usr/share/ncarg. By making a soft link inside /usr/lib,
 /usr/lib/ncarg -> /usr/share/ncarg, it fixes this bug. And when you run 'ng4ex
gsun01n -clean' now it will run properly. I hope this bug can be fixed for
Ubuntu 14.04 and future releases.
Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
ncl-ncarg:
  Installed: 6.1.2-7
  Candidate: 6.1.2-7
  Version table:
 *** 6.1.2-7 0
500 http://my.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status
Summary:
What I expect to happen: ncl can be used
What happened instead: ncl cannot be used
Why cannot be used: in Ubuntu 14.04, ncl tries to reach /usr/lib/ncarg which
does not exist and actually is at /usr/share/ncarg
Temporary fix: make a soft link of   /usr/lib/ncarg -> /usr/share/ncarg .
[Bug 1321627] Re: Wrong WWAN value in saved-states
2014-06-13 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
Please disregard the timeout part here, as that does not affect nexus 4
(I will open a different bug for that). This bug is for the wrong value
for WWAN in saved states.
[Bug 1329254] Re: VMs do not become inactive during the reboot on saucy and later hosts
2014-06-13 Thread Parameswaran Sivatharman
Apologies that this is an annoying bug being reported later than it
should have been, but have been trying a number of workaround to get the
smoke test going with utah/libvirt on our trusty hosts, and the issue
started to really impact after the trusty release when we had to upgrade
our host servers from precise to trusty to be on lts.
We originally tried to tackle this issue with bugs like,
https://bugs.launchpad.net/utah/+bug/1199349 but the workarounds are causing
some other issues.
2014-06-13 Thread David Henningsson
According to the bug reporter (Данило Шеган), the external mic
starts to work and has proper jack detection if only pin 0x19
is marked properly as an external headset mic.
Sure, please find it attached. I was also considering adding something
under /var as well, but I didn't do that, because I think it will fall
back to an "alsactl init" in that case (right?), so it still makes some
sense to run alsactl without /var.
