[Bug 1333913] Re: Kernel panics on br_nf_pre_routing_finish_bridge with atl1c driver

2014-06-24 Thread post-factum

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

I'm building custom router based on Ubuntu Server. With bridging/routing
enabled I've encountered kernel panic (several times in row with neither
visible reason nor specific timings) in br_nf_pre_routing_finish_bridge
  with atl1c driver loaded.

The bridge br0 consists of 1 port (eth0), which is the following network
  card:

05:00.0 Ethernet controller: Qualcomm Atheros AR8151 v2.0 Gigabit
  Ethernet (rev c0)

It is driven by atl1c module. The network behind this card is NAT'ed.

Kernel panic photo and lspci output are attached to this report. With
different network card everything works OK.

Re: [Bug 1234982] Re: Keyboard does not auto-hide when no longer needed

2014-06-24 Thread Rodney Dawes
On Tue, 2014-06-24 at 18:27 +, Zsombor Egri wrote:
I know, there are exceptions, and people don't always like everything these
frameworks provide, and we should address those people. Things like tapping
on a static area to close OSK is not something people would expect to have.

Maybe it's because I'm a developer, and I'm used to more than 25 years
of using computers that have pop-up UI elements like menus, and similar,
which the OSK design and implementation certainly falls into the family
of, and I expect that tapping outside of the pop-up widget's area, and
not into another widget which would result in the same pop-up in the
same position, to close that pop-up. If I tapped on another text entry,
I'd expect the keyboard to stay. If I tapped on background text or empty
space, I'd expect it to close.

I'd also expect to be able to select and copy that text that isn't an
interactive widget, in some way, so that I can paste it into a text
entry elsewhere, if necessary.

I think the best way to solve all these issues, is to have an explicit
close button, as well as having a tap anywhere outside the keyboard area
result in its closure.

[Bug 1333801] Re: create a manpage for grub-install

2014-06-24 Thread Phillip Susi
Section 4.4: Bios Installation of the grub manual ( info ) documents
the difference between MBR and GPT bios booting, and the need for the
bios_grub flag.

Section 4.1 Installing GRUB using grub-install explains EFI.

I'm not sure what environment variables you are talking about, could you
explain?

[Bug 1333959] Re: Window selection sends mouse click to tmux

2014-06-24 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1333959/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1063617] Re: 1:0.9.8+bzr3319-0ubuntu1 regression: keeps setting gsettings keys to wrong values

2014-06-24 Thread Manglasape
@townsend

Oops, yes, I have an Nvidia graphics card, so I tested it again
unchecking the Clic to focus option in Focus Raise Behavior in
General options and after restarting Unity the Clic to focus remains
unchecked so it seems to work properly.

Sorry for my bad choice! :)

[Bug 1328798] Re: Setting default printer does not work

2014-06-24 Thread Till Kamppeter
The DefaultPrinter ... ... /Printer tags in printers.conf are
absolutely correct and not the cause of the problem. It is also correct
that when you set the system's default printer with any printer setup
tool that then the entry in printers.conf gets a DefaultPrinter ...
opening tag.

Problem can be that somewhere else a default printer is set, for example
ina ~/.cups/lpoptions file in your home directory or in an
/etc/cups/lpoptions file. Please check these files and remove any
unwished default printer choices.

It is also possible that applications track a default printer by
themselves or simply pre-select the printer used last within the
application. AFAIK LibreOffice even tracks the las-used printer in the
documents, making the default printer being selected per-document.

** Changed in: cups (Ubuntu)

GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT=tpm_tis.force=1 and running sudo update-
grub fixed this problem on an Acer C720 Chromebook, running the default
kernel that installs with Ubuntu 14.04.

[Bug 1333801] Re: create a manpage for grub-install

2014-06-24 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
At some point (forgot to write it down) setting INSTALL_DEVICE made
grub-install work for me, but this might be unrelated, i.e. forget about
the environment variables if they doen't influence the program.

Maybe a hint to `info grub` could be added and that it is necessary to
read through it in order to understand the manpage.

[Bug 1246092] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 upgrade: audacity sound is trashed, program highly unstable

2014-06-24 Thread Marcos Lucas
The PULSE_LATENCY_MSEC=30 was not a solution for me. My definitive
solution was :

There is a bar with ALSA as the Audio-Host and default as Output
Device.

Well. I Changed the Output Device to my REAL device (HDA Intel : VT2020
Analog)

And now the problem is solved.

Appears that default Output Device is bugged. Try change it to the
your real device.

I hope that it solves the problem for you, as solved for me.

[Bug 807386] Re: CMake should be a required dependency.

This bug was fixed in the package kdevelop - 4:4.6.0-0ubuntu4

kdevelop (4:4.6.0-0ubuntu4) utopic; urgency=medium

  * Add cmake to recommends as it is needed for cmake projects and kdevelop

Kdevelop can technically also be used without cmake, so cmake
certainly does not qualify as Dependency.

@Robert - the easiest way I found to restart accounts service is:
$ sudo killall accounts-daemon
- it will be respawned when it is contacted again (e.g. when a greeter starts)

There's not a lot of documentation on accounts service -
http://www.freedesktop.org/wiki/Software/AccountsService/ is your best
info.

[Bug 1283491] Re: rendering and size issues on high-dpi screen

I found it out. I am now sure this bug is fixed.
What I still saw appears to be a feature: When I opened the search dialog in
geany (which I have usually placed in the lower half of the screen), onboard
jumps out of the way so that the input field is not occluded. It makes sense,
but wasn't obvious to me.

[Bug 1296415] Re: [security] please use apparmor to restrict access to ofono to approved services

2014-06-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
Ok, at this point I am handing off to Phonedations to perform the
landing. I've updated the description for testing, risk, implementation,
etc and I believe everything is in place and am of course available for
questions.

** Description changed:

- We should try to find ways to restrict certain properties and interfaces
- to well known callers, for example Modem 'Online' should be settable by
- urfkill only. We don't want to allow other processes to set these
- properties. This would also help to identify if some unintended process
- is trying to set such properties by accident.
+ It would be useful to limit the services that can connect to ofonod over
DBus. We can implement this be creating an otherwise permissive AppArmor
profile for ofonod that will limit any DBus calls to ofonod to a list of peer
profiles (specifically excluding 'unconfined'). The list of peer profiles is:
+ - indicator-network
+ - network-manager (and dispatcher.d/03mmsproxy)
+ - nuntium
+ - telepathy-ofono
+ - ofono-scripts
+ - powerd
+ - ubuntu-download-manager
+ - system-settings
+ - urfkill
+
+ Each of the above needs to have a profile created for it, adjusting the
+ boot scripts as necessary to ensure that the profile is loaded before
+ the service starts. The peer profile implementation will be wide open as
+ the purpose of the profile is (currently) to simply ensure the process
+ of the service has the correct AppArmor labeling (though this opens the
+ possibility to confine these services down the road if desired).
+
+ Merge requests have been requested for everything except urfkill, which
+ has a debdiff attached to this bug. As mentioned, the AppArmor profiles
+ for everything except ofonod is wide open so the risk of regression is
+ very low for these. In fact, if it is helpful, everything except ofono
+ could be uploaded to the archive independently and at any time.
+
+ For ofono, as mentioned, the AppArmor profile is also lenient except for
+ the policy for its DBus interface. It is critical that ofono is updated
+ at the same time or after all the other packages in this bug, otherwise
+ any packages that aren't updated will fail to connect to ofono.
+
+ I've been running this configuration on my phone for weeks with no
+ denials (excepting 03mmsproxy which I adjusted for yesterday). I've
+ tested the packaging on x86 emulator to make sure that the profiles are
+ installed and loaded properly on boot.
+
+ Test Plan (additional to any existing appropriate test plans)
+ 1. Install all services on a device
+ 2. reboot (important to restart the session and any services that aren't
+ restarted automatically, like nuntium. reboot is easiest). Note the time
+ of the reboot on the device
+ 3. in addition to any applicable test plans, after full boot:
+ adb shell grep DEN /var/log/syslog # there should be no denials for
+# ofono after the system boots (there
+# likely will be denials during
+# upgrade)
+ adb shell tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep DEN # run this during all tests
+ 4. make a call
+ 5. send a text
+ 6. send an mms (if possible)
+ 7. connect to wifi
+ 8. connect to 3G
+ 9. download an app
+ 10. toggle wifi in system-settings
+ 11. double check `adb shell grep DEN /var/log/syslog` for no ofono denials
+ during the testing
+
+
+ = Original text =
+ We should try to find ways to restrict certain properties and interfaces to
well known callers, for example Modem 'Online' should be settable by urfkill
only. We don't want to allow other processes to set these properties. This
would also help to identify if some unintended process is trying to set such
properties by accident.

[Bug 1313874]

2014-06-24 Thread Wbauer
(In reply to comment #27)
I've got to the same commmit by using 'git bisect' independently. I haven't
looked into it yet, however. I guess a bug report to util-linux might be
 good too.

No need for any further bug reports.
This has been fixed already:
https://lkml.org/lkml/2014/5/28/297

It has been backported to openSUSE's 3.11.10 kernel and will be part of the
next kernel update there.
I tried it out, and floppy disk access now works at first attempt again, be it
with mdir, blkid, or the patched udisks (with or without an fstab entry for the
floppy drive).

And yes, the patches still work fine and fix the issue reported here,
i.e. the floppy does get correctly mounted as user, no matter whether
there is an fstab entry or not.

[Bug 1313874]

2014-06-24 Thread David Riebenbauer
Anyway, I guess you/we can stop trying different kernel versions now:
Possibly it is regression in a kernel 3.14
This is the commit that causes it:
 https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/axboe/linux-block.git/commit/
 ?h=for-nextid=7b7b68bba5ef23734c35ffb0d8d82079ed604d33

I built openSUSE 13.1's 3.11.10 kernel (the latest one that has this
problem) _without_ that commit (it was backported by openSUSE), and it works
 fine now.

Here is the accompanying bug report that lead to this commit:
 https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=773058

Not sure how to proceed now.
I think a bug report against the kernel would be in order, as this not only
 affects udisks.
(as mentioned, mdir and blkid show the same behavior)

I guess I'll start with reporting it to openSUSE, as they are responsible
 for that change.
But this will have to wait until after the weekend.

I've got to the same commmit by using 'git bisect' independently. I
haven't looked into it yet, however. I guess a bug report to util-linux
might be good too.

Hello all,

I removed Larrys Kernel and installed Micheals DKMS Pakage from #86. And
it works as good as before on my T440s.

Thanks to Michael, for this nice package, and also to Larry for adding this
patch to the main Kernel tree.
Good work Guys.

I have a second hard drive that I mount which contains all my music.
Changed the rhythym box directory to the mounted drive after I upgraded

started listing all the music in the the directory and then it all
disappeared. Looked at the drive and the folder was deleted.

[Bug 1257082] Re: MAAS does not use NTP servers specified in DHCPD options

2014-06-24 Thread James Troup
So I just ran face first into this bug. Unless I'm missing something,
I don't think ntp being installed by default helps at all. MAAS and
Juju (for the MAAS provisioner) both depend on servers having an
accurate clock early in the boot process; ntpdate achieves this
because it's willing to jump time; ntp is not (for valid reasons).

And, even if I'm wrong about that, we still need a fix for trusty and
precise. Could we not just fix/reverse the logic in ntpdate-debian so
that it prefers dhcp provided NTP servers if one is found? Or at the
very least have it fallback to dhcp provided NTP if it can't find an
ntp.conf?

[Bug 1296415] Re: [security] please use apparmor to restrict access to ofono to approved services

2014-06-24 Thread Jamie Strandboge
** Description changed:

It would be useful to limit the services that can connect to ofonod over
DBus. We can implement this be creating an otherwise permissive AppArmor
profile for ofonod that will limit any DBus calls to ofonod to a list of peer
profiles (specifically excluding 'unconfined'). The list of peer profiles is:
- - indicator-network
- - network-manager (and dispatcher.d/03mmsproxy)
- - nuntium
- - telepathy-ofono
- - ofono-scripts
- - powerd
- - ubuntu-download-manager
- - system-settings
- - urfkill
+  - indicator-network
+  - network-manager (and dispatcher.d/03mmsproxy)
+  - nuntium
+  - telepathy-ofono
+  - ofono-scripts
+  - powerd
+  - ubuntu-download-manager
+  - system-settings
+  - urfkill

Each of the above needs to have a profile created for it, adjusting the
boot scripts as necessary to ensure that the profile is loaded before
the service starts. The peer profile implementation will be wide open as
the purpose of the profile is (currently) to simply ensure the process
of the service has the correct AppArmor labeling (though this opens the
possibility to confine these services down the road if desired).

Merge requests have been requested for everything except urfkill, which
has a debdiff attached to this bug. As mentioned, the AppArmor profiles
for everything except ofonod is wide open so the risk of regression is
very low for these. In fact, if it is helpful, everything except ofono
could be uploaded to the archive independently and at any time.

For ofono, as mentioned, the AppArmor profile is also lenient except for
the policy for its DBus interface. It is critical that ofono is updated
at the same time or after all the other packages in this bug, otherwise
any packages that aren't updated will fail to connect to ofono.

I've been running this configuration on my phone for weeks with no
denials (excepting 03mmsproxy which I adjusted for yesterday). I've
tested the packaging on x86 emulator to make sure that the profiles are
installed and loaded properly on boot.

Test Plan (additional to any existing appropriate test plans)
- 1. Install all services on a device
- 2. reboot (important to restart the session and any services that aren't
- restarted automatically, like nuntium. reboot is easiest). Note the time
- of the reboot on the device
- 3. in addition to any applicable test plans, after full boot:
- adb shell grep DEN /var/log/syslog # there should be no denials for
-# ofono after the system boots (there
-# likely will be denials during
-# upgrade)
- adb shell tail -f /var/log/syslog | grep DEN # run this during all tests
- 4. make a call
- 5. send a text
- 6. send an mms (if possible)
- 7. connect to wifi
- 8. connect to 3G
- 9. download an app
- 10. toggle wifi in system-settings
- 11. double check `adb shell grep DEN /var/log/syslog` for no ofono denials
- during the testing

We should try to find ways to restrict certain properties and interfaces to
well known callers, for example Modem 'Online' should be settable by urfkill
only. We don't want to allow other processes to set these properties. This
would also help to identify if some unintended process is trying to set such
properties by accident.

[Bug 1028972] Re: Empty session menu in ltsp client

2014-06-24 Thread Calcaneo
I can confirm this problem with trusty.

We did a do-release-upgrade on the server, rebuilt the client image, but
logout is not available for users.

Any newer solutions than #15?

Thanks for any help in advance.

[Bug 1333969] Bug is not a security issue

2014-06-24 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a regular (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1238244] Re: pyconfig.h is missing HAVE_MEMMOVE

2014-06-24 Thread Matt Black
I can confirm the bug exists installing PyXML 0.8.4 (latest at time of
writing) from pypi on Ubuntu trusty 14.04.

http://pastebin.com/VY7FFmtA

Following xnox comments above, I checked for HAVE_MEMMOVE, and he's
quite right. Obviously the build is still broken though.

 grep HAVE_MEMMOVE /usr/include/python2.7/pyconfig.h
 echo $?
1
 grep HAVE_MEMMOVE /usr/include/x86_64-linux-gnu/python2.7/pyconfig.h
#define HAVE_MEMMOVE 1

Phillip,

Attaching another debdiff taking in consideration your guidelines. Thank
you for time and please let me know if there is anything else I should
change for this to be suitable for a SRU.

[Bug 743265] Re: When using unity, the diplomacy and cities menus are not shown.

2014-06-24 Thread Andreas Kostyrka
** Description changed:

In freeciv there is a menu below the cities display (F4, Civilization -
Cities). The menu disappears if you're using unity.

  == Ubuntu SRU Justification ==

The game is nigh unplayable if you cannot have access to Diplomacy and
Cities menu. Everyone using GTK+ Freeciv in Unity is affected by this.

  Reproduction steps:
- 1) Open Freeciv
- 2) Start a random scenario
- 3) Go to Civilization-Cities in the main menu
- 4) You'll see near the bottom of the Cities pane is an empty spot where a
menu should be.
+  1) Open Freeciv
+  2) Start a random scenario
+  3) Go to Civilization-Cities in the main menu
+  4) You'll see near the bottom of the Cities pane is an empty spot where a
menu should be.

I've uploaded a patch to oneiric and natty-proposed that disables global
  menus entirely. Please test!
