Ok, I can try that.

Yes, just double-checked.

Yes, it's a normal voice SIM, that supports MMS (at least, that's what
the data plan says).

[Bug 1236749] Re: Gnome shell extensions disabled at every startup

2014-10-10 Thread Stephen Brightwood
Running Ubuntu 14.10 and Gnome 3.14 from Gnome3 PPA. This is still a persistent
error and has effected me for about a year now. previously I used the
workaround where the extensions were loaded at startup using gsettings - but
this is now not available in the latest release so it has stopped working for
me. The "default logging" has no effect and clearing out the extensions folders
before re-enabling a small subset doesn't work either.
This is the result of gsettings enabled-extensions:

['weather-extens...@xeked.com',
'advancedvolumemi...@harry.karvonen.gmail.com',
'mediapla...@patapon.info', 'transparentwindows@ellen',
'gra...@ivoavnunes.gmail.com', 'impatie...@gfxmonk.net']

This is after I have specifically removed transparent window and gradio
in dconf.

It seems that there are multiple places where these settings are stored
and they are probably conflicting.

Its really annoying that this error is effecting so many people and is
persistent for over a year at this stage. Its enough to drive you towards KDE.
Can we get this sorted before it destroys the credibility of the Gnome project.

[Bug 1379778] Re: "Rotate filter" in VLC makes a cropped and letterboxed video

2014-10-10 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
I'm not confused at all; the Rotate screen ("Tools" > "Preferences" >
"All" > "Video" > "Filters" > "Rotate") does not mention that it also
does cropping and letterboxing. In the highly unlikely event that anyone
actually wanted cropping and letterboxing too, they could use the
Cropadd filter for it.

[Bug 1379801] [NEW] audacity distortedly plays recorded sounds

2014-10-10 Thread Hopungo Semi-bit
Public bug reported:

When I'm trying to play imported or recorded track inside audacity, I
hear only noise followed by short piece of the track. Then it stops
never reaching the end. Sometimes it freezes and I have to kill it.
During such playback cursor runs with very high speed. I only noticed
this happens when track is mp3.

[Bug 1379777] Re: Allow applications to specify the orientations supported

2014-10-10 Thread Michał Sawicz
> A hint in the desktop file may be sufficient.

Nope, it needs to be a surface property. Apps need to be able to
dynamically change their orientation preference.

What's more, as discussed before, some apps will still want to rotate
themselves (like camera, probably some games). The panel still needs to
change position in that case, and we may say we only support this if app
is fullscreen.

All in all, I believe this needs design exploration.

[Bug 1124250] Re: Partially incorrect uid mapping with nfs4/idmapd/ldap-auth

2014-10-10 Thread Michael
I am not entirely sure if this is 100%ly related to this bug, but let me
tell you my story here (contains another workaround):

I was also experiencing the problem of frequently having my files owned by
4294967294.
Setup is Ubuntu 14.04 with automounted nfs4/kerberos homes, the NFS server is
running Debian Wheezy.

The problem was not existing with the previously used Ubuntu 13.10, so I
began investigating and tried almost everything I found (which is mostly
documented here), ranging from setting sysctl values to installing the
kernel patch posted here.

However, nothing did help, so I decided to debug via /proc/keys:

While I still had the problem, /proc/keys (as seen by root) showed keys
like this:

0094f999 I--Q--- 1 15s 3b01 0 0 id_legacy
uid:user@fqdn: 5

Note worthing is the remaining time of 15 seconds, shortly thereafter the
problem occured for me and /proc/keys looked like
this:

0094f999 I--Q--- 1 expd 3b01 0 0 id_legacy
uid:user@fqdn: 5

The key was "expired" and there was no new one in the list.
So I issued "nfsidmap -v -c" (which did repair the situation everytime I have
tried) and voilà:

5482b3a I--Q--- 1 9m 3b01 0 0 id_legacy uid:user@fqdn:
5

I had a fresh key with a lifetime of ~ 10 minutes. But listen up, now
comes the final workaround which has "fixed" the problem for about 3 or
4 days now:

 # apt-get install keyutils
 # restart idmapd
 # nfsidmap -v -c

And now the keys do no longer expire:

2014218e I--Q--- 1 perm 3b01 0 0 id_resolv
uid:user@fqdn: 5

As already mentioned, this is working since several days now without any
issues, my stress-test to check this is by the way:

 somedir$ for i in $(seq 10); do touch $i;sleep 0.2;done
somedir$ while (true); do ls -lR | grep 4294967294;done

I still do not know exactly why installing keyutils has solved the issue
or why this package was not previously installed as a dependency, but
hey, it is a workaround at least for me and maybe others.

[Bug 1378245] Re: citrain could use a more accurate way to upgrade from silos

2014-10-10 Thread Sergio Schvezov
This is actually reverting back to the previous behavior we had which
had the potential of "upgrading" packages out of silo.

Sure you get the dependencies, but the added load of other packages can
come in too.

Using main only is not an option as we also have dependencies in
universe, the fact that it worked without upgrading unwanted packages
might of been just a coincidence with the time of testing (e.g.; just
after a new image came out of the oven so all packages were up to date)

The best solution here is to have people state they have new deps and
taking care of them prior to running the tool. This is not ideal and I
can see this working without any intervention from the user and without
disabling any sources if instead of running dist-upgrade you do the
following:

- iterate over each binary package in the silo
- if it's not part of the current install list, discard; else add to the
"install_list"
- look at the dependencies, add to the "install_list"
- apt install "install_list"

corrected it's self when I rebooted this Laptop and opened the Ubuntu 14.10
Beta, reverting again to the LTS OS partition it was the English (UK) keyboard
correctly indicated.
The keyboard it opens with again seems to be a random selection thing again,
could it be somehow related to the Grub bootloader prior to the Operating
System selection some how setting the keyboard layout that it opens the OS in
that isn't overridden when the OS starts?

[Bug 1379807] [NEW] urfkill does not wait for modem to be powered to online it

2014-10-10 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
Public bug reported:

Some times (quite often) urfkill fails to set the Online property with
failure

Could not set Online property in oFono:
GDBus.Error:org.ofono.Error.NotAvailable: Operation currently not
available

Taking a look at ofono code, this is returned in case the modem Powered
property is not true. The warning happens because urfkill tries to set
Online too fast, before the mode has set itself as powered. To solve
this, urfkill should wait for the Powered property to be true before
trying to set Online.

In the end urfkill is able to Online the modem because set_soft() is
called twice for the device:

Oct 8 07:56:51 ubuntu-phablet URfkill[1097]: Setting device 100 (WWAN) to

[Bug 1068756] Re: IPv6 Privacy Extensions enabled on Ubuntu Server by default

2014-10-10 Thread Scott Moser
ok. so some updates.
Ben fixed this in the cloud image build process via [1] (commit [2]), and
limited the change to utopic+.
The fix was done by adding a file /etc/sysctl.d/99-cloudimg-ipv6.conf

The problem with this change is described in bug 1352255 and bug
994931. If ipv6 addresses are already configured, then setting the
'net.ipv6.conf.all.use_tempaddr' will remove the configured addresses.

So to actually fix this right, I suggest that the build proces:
 * dpkg-divert /etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf to
/etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf.disabled
 * add a file /etc/sysctl.d/10-ipv6-privacy.conf.README that explains that and
how the user could re-enable it (un-dpkg-divert it).

[Bug 1379807] Re: urfkill does not wait for modem to be powered to online it

Taking a look at urfkill code, it tries to online the modem right after
detecting a modem, and after receiving a change of the Powered property
in the device-ofono code, so although annoying the warning is not such a

This is most likely not an issue with Ubuntu - I'm a Fedora user and I
have the same problem.

Many times hitting "Send / Receive" ends up with a dialog that never
returns, after which I restart Evolution and it gets fast again.

The problem *seems* to also happen when changing networks or resuming
from suspend, but I haven't done any tests to verify
