I install buntu 14.04.2 and pulseaudio (before only alsa) but it's still

[Bug 1424362] Re: no permissions to install packages in vivid daily lubuntu beta 1

2015-03-07 Thread sudodus
I see the problem in i386 and amd64 installed systems.

The Lubuntu Software Center works when started from the command line
sudo lubuntu-software-center
but not with
gksudo lubuntu-software-center
and not with
sudo -H lubuntu-software-center

Synaptic starts from the command line via gksudo, but not from the menu.
There seems to be a general problem with elevated permissions from the
menu and when using the elevation methods recommended for GUI
applications.

Comment #13 looks promising to squash this bug.

[Bug 1414345] Re: Audacious stops playing audio when outside of tty/term

2015-03-07 Thread themusicgod1
Huh. Even more reproducible than I thought -- I'm thinking maybe the
ram thing was a canard since I only go to tty1 when my ram is running
low. I tried a bunch of times with ample ram and was able to still
reproduce.

preconditions: you're in xorg/gnome on tty7 or whatever, audacious is
open, you're also logged in on tty1 with just bash running

Step 2) press play on audacious
step 3) alt-ctrl-f1
step 4) alt-f2 (to change to different tty)

sound stops here (ie same as #3)

step 5) alt-f1 (to go back to terminal 1)

sound starts again.

step 6) go back to xorg alt-f7

sound stops here.

As for #4 I mean... the computer is running, I'm logged in xorg/gnome
but not at that particular tty. I get silence...until I log in to the
tty (then the music starts)

funny series:

if you, in tty1 log out of the current user ... the music stops. if you log
in, the music starts again.
if you log out... and then change to tty2, then change back to tty1 (ie you're
still just faced with a login screen...) the music starts again. And you can
come back to xorg and it worksbut if you go back to tty2 it stops.

[Bug 1385292] Re: can't rename files in nautilus

2015-03-07 Thread Xelancer
It Feels like the Keyboard simply hangs after I copy/paste a new name
onto a file while renaming a file (virtually any file, picture,
document, etc) in Nautilus. Can confirm it does not seem to affect 32bit
versions, but I have two 14.10 (64bit) installations and they both do
it!

Suggestion for anybody keen on looking into the issue:
I get the impression it might be something to do with the clipboard "carrying
stylesheets" along with the text, for example If I sometimes paste text onto
facebook/disqus from Libreoffice writer you will get a prefix text saying
something like p {font-size:20px} or the like preceding the pasted text. This
will often cause input into the facebook/disqus textbox to hand in much the
same way. I have not had time to look into the entity/element "richtext
cleaning" functions on Nautilus but I would hazard a guess thats where the
problem resides.

[Bug 1104230] Re: DisplayPort 1.2 MST support is missing in the Intel driver

2015-03-07 Thread Jace
So I was trying to follow this and get this set up on my Lenovo T440P
with a pro doc and two monitors (vga and dvi). I finally got it working
by taking the following steps, this took me a few days so if anyone
finds this maybe it'll help them too.

Initially I was on Trusty 14.04.

* Then I added ther repos here;
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:dgadomski/linux-mst
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xorg-edgers/ppa
sudo apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-intel
sudo reboot

* No success, read more, looked like the stuff was in 14.10 so I
upgraded to 14.10.

* To upgrade to 14.10, you navigate to Dash, type "Software & Updates", goto
the 3rd tab "Updates", change the bottom option to "For any new version".
* Then opened Dash, and ran "Software Updater" and let it update took a while.
* Rebooted, no success.
* Then I noticed the 3.13 / 3.16 / 3.17 talk and decided I'd try updating my
kernal. Followed steps to update my kernal from 3.16 to 3.17 as described here
(http://ubuntuhandbook.org/index.php/2014/11/how-to-upgrade-to-linux-kernel-3-17-4-in-ubuntu-14-10/);

wget
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.17.4-vivid/linux-image-3.17.4-031704-generic_3.17.4-031704.201411211317_amd64.deb
sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-3.17.4-*.deb linux-image-3.17.4-*.deb
* Rebooted
Worked!

Again I'm just sharing how I got this to work for me to help others if
they come upon this.

confirmed to be a gvfs bug (not Firefox bug), and has already been FIXED
(!) in the GNOME bug that I've been linking above.

This is just Ubuntu being inactive in shipping the fix.

[Bug 1387011]

2015-03-07 Thread Paweł Bylica
I will check the details later, and let you know. But I think the
problem is not in the build itself (I'm using manually build and it is
perfect from 3.5 version). The problem is in config of Debian/Ubuntu
package. I installed llvm-3.6-dev package. I think it has moved cmake
files from /usr/lib/llvm/share/llvm/cmake to /usr/share/llvm/cmake but
some paths points to the old location.

[Bug 1387011]

2015-03-07 Thread Paweł Bylica
llvm-3.6-dev package has cmake files in /usr/share/llvm-3.6/cmake. There
is LLVMConfig.cmake file in that location containing a variable
LLVM_CMAKE_DIR set to /usr/lib/llvm-3.6/share/llvm/cmake. That script
also fails to load other scripts from the "old" location:
`include("${LLVM_CMAKE_DIR}/LLVMExports.cmake")`.

If `find_package(LLVM 3.6 CONFIG)` command used, cmake will search for
LLVMConfig.cmake file in /usr/share/llvm-3.6/cmake and
/usr/lib/llvm-3.6/cmake. So maybe instead of generating cmake shared
files in build-dir/share/llvm/cmake is better to generated them in
build-dir/cmake. Then there is not need to move them by package script.

[Bug 1387011]

2015-03-07 Thread E-dln-l
The patch went into trunk on Wed Sep 10 10:18:59 2014 + so it should
be in LLVM3.6 unless someone removed it.

I'm building LLVM3.6 with the autoconfig/Makefile build system now and
I'll try installing it and I'll see if I can reproduce the issue.

[Bug 1387011]

2015-03-07 Thread E-dln-l
@Paweł Bylica . Sylvestre Ledru is responsible for the Ubuntu/Debian
packages. I've CC'ed him on this PR.

```
 I think it has moved cmake files from /usr/lib/llvm/share/llvm/cmake to
/usr/share/llvm/cmake but some paths points to the old location.
```

It's the other way round. LLVM installs the CMake files to
``${CMAKE_INSTALL_PREFIX}/share/llvm/cmake/`` and the Ubuntu/Debian
packages must be deviating from this.

@Sylvestre. Could you take a look at this?

[Bug 1387011]

2015-03-07 Thread E-dln-l
@Paweł Bylica

Okay I tried building LLVM3.6 with and without ``--enable-shared`` and
using the installed LLVM from CMake is working fine for me.

Do you have the LLVM static libraries installed? The exported CMake
targets only work with these.

If you take a look at ``/usr/share/llvm/cmake/LLVMExports.cmake``

you'll see stuff like

```
# LLVM CMake target exports.  Do not include directly.
add_library(LLVMOption STATIC IMPORTED)
set_property(TARGET LLVMOption PROPERTY IMPORTED_LOCATION
"/home/dsl11/dev/llvm3.6/shared_install/lib/libLLVMOption.a")
add_library(LLVMLineEditor STATIC IMPORTED)
set_property(TARGET LLVMLineEditor PROPERTY IMPORTED_LOCATION
"/home/dsl11/dev/llvm3.6/shared_install/lib/libLLVMLineEditor.a")
add_library(LLVMIRReader STATIC IMPORTED)
set_property(TARGET LLVMIRReader PROPERTY IMPORTED_LOCATION
"/home/dsl11/dev/llvm3.6/shared_install/lib/libLLVMIRReader.a")
...
```

Do the libraries referenced in your version of LLVMExports.cmake exist
on your system? If not you need to install them.

[Bug 1429489] Re: Suspend not working when closing lid on ThinkPad T420s

2015-03-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Tags added: regression-release vivid

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided => Low

** Description changed:

- As documented in bug 1427942: I do reproduce this on a ThinkPad T420s.
- Previous version installed (14.04) did work pretty well for this.
+ Suspend doesn't work when closing the lid on my ThinkPad T420s. There is
+ no issue with 14.10 or 14.04. Kernel 4.0 do not help.

  dmesg when closing/opening with kernel "Linux alex-ThinkPad-T420s
3.19.0-7-generic #7-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 26 20:19:34 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64

  [ 124.075694] systemd-logind[1262]: Removed session c1.

  The i915 seems to be unrelated: it appears after the lid is opened
  again, and "pci=noacpi" makes it disappear but the bug stays.

- Kernel 4.0 do not help.
-
- There is no issue with a 14.10 ; and upgrading 14.10 to 15.04 exposes
- the issue.
-
- I managed to got it to work, after playing with the e1000e driver as
- suggested on
- https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1414261#p1414261
-
  The current state is:
   - doing nothing, e1000e loaded, it never goes to suspend when I close the
lid (tried 5 times)
   - removing e1000e, goes to suspend when I close the lid
   - doing nothing, e1000e removed, it again cannot go to suspend when I close
the lid
   - loading e1000e, goes to suspend when I close the lid

- And of course, manually suspending does work.
+ WORKAROUND: I managed to got it to work, after playing with the e1000e
+ driver as suggested on
+ https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1414261#p1414261
+
+ WORKAROUND: Manually suspend.

[Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage

2015-03-07 Thread Petar Velkovski
Also, I don;t think that the current incarnation of this bug is filling
my HDD. When I open the ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata folder in the file
browser it is evident that a few files are constantly being generated
and then erased ad nauseam. So there is no disk space eating problem,
just the HDD (and laptop battery) straining problem.

[Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage

2015-03-07 Thread Petar Velkovski
I would like to add that I don't think that the original bug reported
with this bug report, is identical with the way this gvfs-metadata bug
behaves in its later version as running rm -rf ~/.local/share/gvfs-
metadata stops the infinite disk writing for just few minutes and that
it starts again. Not only does it put the HDD under a strain (especially
SSDs), it also kills the battery on laptop devices quicker especially
when an ordinary HDD is used.

The finding that the bug is easily reproducible with the Super Start
firefox extension is interesting. I'm using a similar extension on both
my machines where this bug appears; it's Speed DIal [FWD] in my case.
Some previous bug reports mention that the bug is triggered when using
HTML5 Video Everywhere - another firefox plugin.

Is it possible that some of the libraries used by firefox produce files
(or do something else) that than somehow confuse gvfs-metadata and force
it to go into infinite writing loop?! If so, can this be also a firefox
bug? Not that gvfs-metadata shouldn't be able to handle such situations.

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2015-03-07 Thread Andres G. Aragoneses
Interestingly enough, I removed all my mtp packages, and installed
libmtp-code from the git's source (tried both 1.1.8 and 1.1.6) and it
made suddenly mtp-detect to start working (in both versions).

So I'm wondering what to do next, to keep on pinpointing the problem.

[Bug 517021] Re: gvfsd-metadata causes 100% CPU usage

2015-03-07 Thread Ben Bucksch
** Description changed:

  Binary package hint: gvfs

- My disk space was really full at one moment, no byte left free. People say,
that does corrupt the files in the ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata folder, so the
gvfsd-metadata can't read it without being screwed up.
- Workaround: run "rm -rf ~/.local/share/gvfs-metadata"
+ Failure to write metadata results in an infinite loop that keeps trying
+ to write, thousands of times per second.

- Expected results:
- gvfsd-metadata should be able to handle the no space left situation.
+ Steps to reproduce:
+ 1. Open Firefox
+ 2. Save a data: URL (very long URL, usually generated by webapps or
extensions) as file
+
+ Actual result:
+ - File is saved
+ - 100% CPU
+ - Extremely high number of file operations by gvfs - billions
+ - Never stops
+
+ Expected result:
+ Failure to write metadata should just fail, not try again
+
+ Fix:
+ Patch available and accepted by GNOME
+ https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=637095
+

  --- Original description ---
  After installing 9.10 Ubuntu 64bit browsing and opening folder in nautilus or
Gnome-commander take several minutes when there are many files in it e.g.
10.000. Interestingly Midnight-commander does not have this problem. Opening
such folders does not hang with MC.
  Using "top" i can see that "gvfsd-metadata" is using 100% CPU and when i kill
it the computer stops "hanging". I am using the 32bit version of Karmic too and
there is no such Problem (although tested on a different computer).

  Please fix this because it is highly annyoing. Right now i am killing it
  every 20s with the watch command to be able to work at all.

[Bug 1429494] [NEW] Will not follow indexing settings

2015-03-07 Thread Chris Mayoros
Public bug reported:

In my privacy settings, I have turned off the option to index my music
files. I have also put my music folders as well as banshee and audacious
all into my exclude list All other music players have been uninstalled.
I clear the usage data from all time, log out and back in, and yet I
keep seeing music files in the search results in my dash. I just un-
installed the music & video lenses, and have the same results, it keeps
listing music files. I simply do not want any music files to show up in
the results.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS x64, all updates have been installed.

[Bug 1429493] [NEW] Kubuntu Vivid 1 Beta 15.04: Suspend-to-ram is offered in virtual box

2015-03-07 Thread Skyman

The supend-to-ram option is offered in the k menu when running on virtualbox.
When it is used the screen goes black for a second and then returns with the

case for virtualbox) the option should not be offered.

[Bug 1429489] [NEW] Suspend not working when closing lid on ThinkPad T420s

2015-03-07 Thread Pirouette Cacahuète
Public bug reported:

As documented in bug 1427942: I do reproduce this on a ThinkPad T420s.
Previous version installed (14.04) did work pretty well for this.

dmesg when closing/opening with kernel "Linux alex-ThinkPad-T420s
3.19.0-7-generic #7-Ubuntu SMP Thu Feb 26 20:19:34 UTC 2015 x86_64 x86_64
x86_64 GNU/Linux":
[ 94.842668] systemd-logind[1262]: Lid closed.
[ 102.468204] systemd-logind[1262]: Lid opened.
[ 102.468661] i915 :00:02.0: BAR 6: [??? 0x flags 0x2] has bogus
alignment
[ 124.075694] systemd-logind[1262]: Removed session c1.

The i915 seems to be unrelated: it appears after the lid is opened
again, and "pci=noacpi" makes it disappear but the bug stays.

Kernel 4.0 do not help.

There is no issue with a 14.10 ; and upgrading 14.10 to 15.04 exposes
the issue.

I managed to got it to work, after playing with the e1000e driver as
suggested on
https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?pid=1414261#p1414261

The current state is:
 - doing nothing, e1000e loaded, it never goes to suspend when I close the lid
(tried 5 times)
 - removing e1000e, goes to suspend when I close the lid
 - doing nothing, e1000e removed, it again cannot go to suspend when I close
the lid
 - loading e1000e, goes to suspend when I close the lid

And of course, manually suspending does work.

[Bug 1429488] [NEW] Kubuntu Vivid 1 Beta 15.04: Background image does not scale with virtual box

2015-03-07 Thread Skyman

Observed behaviour:
UI elements adjust, background does not scale.
Also impossible to make scaling by workspace settings.

Reported as this could also apply to other resolution changings (change

[Bug 1424864] Re: Xorg crash

2015-03-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Galen Thurber, just to advise, this report is scoped to how xorg
crashes, not how your kernel isn't working.

If you have a kernel problem, please boot into a live environment via
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ and then file a new report via a
terminal:
ubuntu-bug linux

Please feel free to subscribe me to it.

Regarding your apport-collect not working out, I just used Firefox 36
successfully with apport in Utopic. Hence, please boot into a live
environment and then perform the apport-collect.

[Bug 1429486] [NEW] docker.io too outdated, cannot interpret common Dockerfiles

2015-03-07 Thread Hadmut Danisch
Public bug reported:

Hi,

the docker.io version currently in trusty/14.04 seems to be too
outdated, even if updated in trusty-updated.

It cannot interpret clauses quite common in todays Dockerfiles.

E.g. I tried to generate a Firefox sync server by building the
Dockerfile coming with

git clone https://github.com/mozilla-services/syncserver

It fails, because this Dockerfile contains

ADD Makefile *.ini *.wsgi *.rst *.txt *.py /home/app/syncserver/

which is not interpreted in the expected way. Instead, the first argument (the
file Makefile) is copyied into the "second" argument, i.e. the file with the
Name "*.ini *.wsgi *.rst *.txt *.py /home/app/syncserver/"

In other words: It does not expand whitespace or common wildcards, it
just takes everything after the first whitespace as the second
parameter, which clearly violates docker's manual.

Upgrade recommended.

regards
Hadmut

/update-initramfs, See: https://bugs.debian.org/729809. Other than this
alt dep, it looks like parts of plymouth would need to be merged, and
dracut patched for plymouth not being in /usr.

[Bug 1388647] Re: DRI_PRIME=1 has no effect in Ubuntu 14.10

2015-03-07 Thread ABOUBAKR SEDDIK OUAHABI
Well, I found that it's an issue with setting the right Paths for the
right installed NVIDIA driver, in my case GT540M 2GB. (Ubuntu 14.10)

It was poiting to nvidia-current, while I have the latest installed by
default for some reason which is way greater than the current, and I've
found also that optimus was set to use Nouveau instead, hence I changed
that to nvidia, and set the right paths and everything's working great
including EditShare Lightworks and The Foundry Nuke Studio.

So check your config again.

Btw, I lost the confs after one Update and had to re-do it manually
again.

[Bug 1429483] [NEW] Kubuntu Vivid 1 Beta 15.04: Muon preferences are not saved

2015-03-07 Thread Skyman
Public bug reported:

What I did:
1. Opened the muon preferences.
2. Selected "Show notifications for available updates"
3. Clicked  on "Ok"
4. Opened the muon preferences again.

Expected behaviour:
The option is still selected.

Observed behaviour:
The option is not selected.

When I select both options and reopen the dialog the second one ("Show
the number of available updates") is still selected but deactivated.

Always reproducible.

[Bug 1429482] [NEW] Kubuntu Vivid 1 Beta 15.04: Last checked for updates is display unusal

2015-03-07 Thread Skyman
Public bug reported:

What I did.
1. Started muon.
2. Changed something in the settings and closed them. Muon now reloaded (or
downloaded?) the package list.

The time since last check is displayed as "843 milliseconds". This may be
correct but seems a little bit unusale (at least to a "normal" user).

[Bug 1314556] Re: Unable to mount Android MTP device

2015-03-07 Thread Andres G. Aragoneses
Also affected. In my case, a Samsung Galaxy S SCL GT-I9003

Ubuntu 14.04 ships libmtp 1.1.6. I wonder if a higher, or lower version
of this lib, would fix these problems? (I said "lower" in my previous
sentence, because many people claim here that it worked with Ubuntu
12.04.)

Apparently Ubuntu 12.04 included libmtp-1.1.3-1, and Ubuntu 15.04
includes latest libmtp, which is 1.1.8. Has anyone of you tried to run
Ubuntu 15.04? Or downgrade your libmtp to 1.1.3 in your 14.04?

For the record, my mtp-detect log:

$ mtp-detect

upgraded/migrated to the new version of KWallet form KDE Frameworks 5.
It also tells me that there seems to be an old password safe from KDE4.

But: This is a fresh installation without any stored password!
