[Bug 1349176] Re: i8kmon won't work on Dell Inspiron 7720 (causes lag)

2015-03-19 Thread postadelmaga
Ok I found another workaround for the fan speed:
- watch echo 255 /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/pwm2

If you set the speed directly using sysfs you don't have the lag, this point
out that the lag occurs only when you read the speed of the fan, indeed if try
to read the speed with sysfs you still have the lag:
- watch cat /sys/class/hwmon/hwmon2/fan_input2

So If it was possible to avoid the read speed while you set it in
i8kutil ... I think this will be a great improvements.

Note:
On my system if I set the fan speed to max speed ( with sysfs or i8kutils ) I
never reach the maximum speed: the bios is able to set more high speed ... I'm
not sure if it is i8k driver limitation.

Daniel, I just pushed a fix for this upstream:

http://sourceforge.net/p/iprdd/iprutils/ci/33e6bde7fafd6dc0a166acd63446b875b42022c4/

Can you get a package built for system test and then make sure this gets
pushed into the next iprutils update?

== Comment: #2 - Daniel Battaiola Kreling dbkrel...@br.ibm.com - 2015-03-16
16:17:41 ==

[Bug 1427654] Re: FFE: switch system init to systemd [not touch] in 15.04

2015-03-19 Thread Didier Roche
As stated on the mailing list few months ago
(https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
discuss/2014-December/015154.html), Ubuntu never offered a choice of
init system, and won't start doing that. systemd is mandatory to be the
supported ubuntu path. That's the reason why ubuntu-standard won't
depend on systemd|upstart.

Note that for some kernel reasons, the Touch image is still using
upstart, but that will change in the future.

[Bug 1418357] Re: gnome-system-log auto-scrolls away from entry being viewed

2015-03-19 Thread Rocko
@Ubfan: Unfortunately, Gnome seems to have removed this option from the
gnome-system-log that comes with 15.04 (there's a surprise!). I think it
was already gone by 14.10, but I don't have a 14.10 installation around
to check anymore. The only menu I can see is on the cog (right hand side
of the title bar) and it has only Open, Close, Copy, Select All, Zoom
In, Zoom Out, Normal Size, and Filters.

[Bug 1218166] Re: [Dell XPS 13] Horizontal/Vertical scrolling feature on touchpad [CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad] does not work.

2015-03-19 Thread Jesse Sung
This is caused by the fix of lp:1103594.

The vital_statics_supported is disabled for fw_version = 11 because it
would introduce errors on XPS12. However the scrolling feature depends
on the vital_statics_supported, and the touchpad of XPS13 reports that
its fw_version is 11. I've tried to enable vital_statics_supported on
XPS13 and found that scrolling works again.

The test described in the bug fails in Ubuntu 14.04.2.

The following packages were tried as well: libnuma1 2.0.9~rc5-1ubuntu3
and numactl 2.0.9~rc5-1ubuntu3

In all cases the test failed. The efix for 14.04.1 provided by Thierry
Fauck worked but it was not used in 14.04.02

The following packages were tried as well: libnuma1 2.0.9~rc5-1ubuntu3
and numactl 2.0.9~rc5-1ubuntu3

In all cases the test failed. The efix for 14.04.1 provided by Thierry
Fauck worked but it was not used in 14.04.02

[Bug 1432805] Re: CVE-2014-8173

2015-03-19 Thread John Johansen
** Description changed:

- A NULL pointer dereference flaw was found in the way Linux kernel's
- madvise MADV_WILLNEED functionality handled page table locking. An
- unprivileged local user could use this flaw to crash the system.
+ The pmd_none_or_trans_huge_or_clear_bad function in include/asm-
+ generic/pgtable.h in the Linux kernel before 3.13 on NUMA systems does
+ not properly determine whether a Page Middle Directory (PMD) entry is a
+ transparent huge-table entry, which allows local users to cause a denial
+ of service (NULL pointer dereference and system crash) or possibly have
+ unspecified other impact via a crafted MADV_WILLNEED madvise system call
+ that leverages the absence of a page-table lock.

[Bug 1429821] Re: CVE-2015-0274

2015-03-19 Thread John Johansen
** Changed in: linux-lts-trusty (Ubuntu Precise)
   Status: Confirmed = Fix Committed

** Description changed:

- Replacing XFS remote attributes may cause memory corruption
+ The XFS implementation in the Linux kernel before 3.15 improperly uses
+ an old size value during remote attribute replacement, which allows
+ local users to cause a denial of service (transaction overrun and data
+ corruption) or possibly gain privileges by leveraging XFS filesystem
+ access.

[Bug 1430261] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2015-03-19 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From pavsu...@in.ibm.com 2015-03-19 06:52 EDT---
I have already tried many times with the Netboot images provided in the link
below.
http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/dists/vivid/main/installer-ppc64el/current/images/netboot/

The netboot tar balls placed in the above path are of 12-March and I
have already tested them and the issue reported here occurs with the
initrd and vmlinux images provided there.

So, if there are any new Netboot images provided by Canonical and placed
in the above link then I will sure give it a try on my machine.

[Bug 1433678] Re: please sync virtualbox/virtualbox-guest-additions-iso from debian experimental

2015-03-19 Thread Graham Inggs
is the Conflicts field enough? No break or replaces, right?

Yes, Conflicts is a stronger restriction than Breaks/Replaces.
In most circumstances Breaks is preferred, but Conflicts should be used when
two packages provide the same file and will continue to do so.
See: https://www.debian.org/doc/debian-policy/ch-relationships.html#s-conflicts

[Bug 1427654] Re: FFE: switch system init to systemd [not touch] in 15.04

2015-03-19 Thread Didier Roche
As stated on the mailing list few months ago
(https://lists.ubuntu.com/archives/ubuntu-devel-
discuss/2014-December/015154.html), Ubuntu never offered a choice of
init system, and won't start doing that. systemd is mandatory to be the
supported ubuntu path. That's the reason why ubuntu-standard won't
depend on systemd|upstart.

Note that for some kernel reasons, the Touch image is still using
upstart, but that will change in the future.

[Bug 1431650] Re: Multipath devices take long to initialize during initramfs

2015-03-19 Thread Mauricio Faria de Oliveira
This commit should fix this bug, and probably bug 1429327 as well.

https://github.com/hreinecke/multipath-tools/commit/841977fc9c3432702c296d6239e4a54291a6007a

It should allow multipath to be run in udev rules w/out timeout/killing (fixes
this bug),
and thus restore the functioning of event-based multipath discovery
(which should fix bug 1429327, as the SCSI disks found after
initramfs/local-top/multipath
should be found during the wait-for-root call in initramfs/local).

It just happens not to be upstream yet, and maybe not reviewed.
I'll take a look at it tomorrow.

[Bug 1003950] Re: launcher does not show minimized update manager while clicked

2015-03-19 Thread Clay Spence
Here's another symptom, though it may well be unrelated. This bug
affects my work computer, on which I have ubuntu 14.04 LTS, 64-bit. On
that computer, when I use the workaround, i.e., quit software updater
and start it, a window appears for it and I can use it to update. But
the window can't be resized. The mouse pointer doesn't even change when
I pass it over the window's border.

[Bug 1434143] Re: boot script should run aa-profile-hook in addition to aa-clickhook

2015-03-19 Thread Steve Beattie
Per discussion with Jamie on irc, aa-profile-hook is to be triggered
when the apparmor package or click-apparmor package (provider of aa-
profile-hook) is updated via the system image updater. It is *not*
necessary to run aa-profile-hook on updates to apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu
and apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu-snappy.

(I'm not sure what an update to apparmor-easyprof-ubuntu-snappy should
trigger, if anything; aa-clickhook perhaps?)

[Bug 1434006] Re: Information leak

2015-03-19 Thread Seth Arnold
You can configure this with /etc/pam.d/sshd -- simply remove the
pam_motd lines from your PAM sshd configuration and this information
will no longer be shown when users successfully authenticate. (Neither
sshd nor pam_motd.so care if your users are using bash or false or
nologin for their shell; they successfully authenticated, which is all
the pam_motd.so cares about.)

Thanks

[Bug 1434309] [NEW] Template Tag _DATE_ broken in 3.4.0

2015-03-19 Thread Shane Williams
Public bug reported:

On Ubuntu 14.04.2 LTS, using spamassassin 3.4.0-1ubuntu2.

If the _DATE_ Template Tag is used in a header or report, it returns an
incorrect date (usually well in the past). Obviously not critical, but
having this date greatly simplifies finding the log entries for a
particular piece of email. It cculd also be confusing to users who look
at full headers.

For full information, see the upstream bug at:
https://bz.apache.org/SpamAssassin/show_bug.cgi?id=7050

[Bug 1427785] Re: Duplicate processes started after Resume of amd64 bit

2015-03-19 Thread apjjr
Ok. I have no idea what I'm looking for. I see messages in a lot of
the upstart log files that look like errors. See below.

How am I supposed to know what package this 'bug' belongs to? I'm not a linux
systems guy. How would I figure that out? I'd be glad to classify this better
if I knew how.
All I know is what I said in my first remark about this.
I've been using Ubuntu since 5.04 and have never seen duplicate processes get
started like this before. They just keep building up until I start to see
performance degradation. Then I reboot and all is well until they build up
again.
Thanks for your help.

Here's part of the output of ps fax:
7011 ?Ss 0:00 \_ bash -c dbus-launch /usr/bin/docky /dev/null -
 7012 ?Sl 0:02 \_ mono /usr/lib/docky/Docky.exe
 6715 ?S 0:00 su apjjr - -c dbus-launch /usr/bin/docky /dev/null
 7016 ?Ss 0:00 \_ bash -c dbus-launch /usr/bin/docky /dev/null -
 7017 ?Sl 0:02 \_ mono /usr/lib/docky/Docky.exe
 6872 ?S 0:00 su apjjr - -c dbus-launch /usr/bin/docky /dev/null
 7019 ?Ss 0:00 \_ bash -c dbus-launch /usr/bin/docky /dev/null -
 7021 ?Sl 0:02 \_ mono /usr/lib/docky/Docky.exe
 6910 ?S 0:00 su apjjr - -c dbus-launch /usr/bin/docky /dev/null
 7022 ?Ss 0:00 \_ bash -c dbus-launch /usr/bin/docky /dev/null -
 7026 ?Sl 0:02 \_ mono /usr/lib/docky/Docky.exe

I wonder why so many instances of Docky?

I'd appreciate any help I can get. If I need to reinstall because
somethngs gotten screwed up, I'll do that.

Following are the upstart log files I think are indicating some error:
