[Bug 1437820] Re: 14e4:4331 [MacBookPro9, 2] 802.11g won't connect to Verzion Jetpack MiFi 5510L (no secrets provided)

2015-03-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

The laptop won't connect as per syslog:
NetworkManager[747]: (wlan1): device state change: config -> failed
(reason 'no-secrets') [50 120 7]

This is complete nonsense, as the same device with the proprietary bcmwl
drivers works, and other devices (and operating systems) works fine.

- WORKAROUND: Use proprietary bcmwl.
+ Upstream report: http://marc.info/?l=linux-
+ wireless&m=142764079310333&w=2
+
+ Using proprietary bcmwl is no longer a WORKAROUND due to

[Bug 1437755] Re: Touchpad incorrectly detected as PS/2 mouse in 'ASUS PU551L'

2015-03-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
David Zafra Gómez, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better. As per
http://www.asus.com/Commercial_Notebook/ASUSPRO_ESSENTIAL_PU551LA/HelpDesk_Download/
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (208).
If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then
please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 807303] Re: "bizarre error - file size is not what the server reported" with private ppa

2015-03-29 Thread Anders Kaseorg
I can reproduce this message by adding many https repositories to
sources.list. For example, with these sources (which are public, so you
can try this yourself):

deb https://debathena.mit.edu/apt precise debathena
deb-src https://debathena.mit.edu/apt precise debathena
deb https://debathena.mit.edu/apt quantal debathena
deb-src https://debathena.mit.edu/apt quantal debathena
deb https://debathena.mit.edu/apt raring debathena
deb-src https://debathena.mit.edu/apt raring debathena
deb https://debathena.mit.edu/apt saucy debathena
deb-src https://debathena.mit.edu/apt saucy debathena
deb https://debathena.mit.edu/apt trusty debathena
deb-src https://debathena.mit.edu/apt trusty debathena
deb https://debathena.mit.edu/apt utopic debathena
deb-src https://debathena.mit.edu/apt utopic debathena
deb https://debathena.mit.edu/apt vivid debathena
deb-src https://debathena.mit.edu/apt vivid debathena

I get:

$ sudo rm /var/lib/apt/lists/debathena*
$ sudo apt-get update
…
W: Size of file
/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/debathena.mit.edu_apt_dists_quantal_debathena_source_Sources.bz2
is not what the server reported 31194 16209
W: Size of file
/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/debathena.mit.edu_apt_dists_saucy_debathena_source_Sources.bz2
is not what the server reported 31029 24393
W: Size of file
/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/debathena.mit.edu_apt_dists_trusty_debathena_source_Sources.bz2
is not what the server reported 26334 16209
W: Size of file
/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/debathena.mit.edu_apt_dists_utopic_debathena_source_Sources.bz2

W: Size of file
/var/lib/apt/lists/partial/debathena.mit.edu_apt_dists_vivid_debathena_source_Sources.bz2

This does not happen with the same repositories over plain http.

The following upstream commit will fix the issue:

2c0e02a568c7db99922e9080407f8fc22d1991bd
Author: David Sterba
Date: Wed May 28 11:25:24 2014 +0200

btrfs-progs: make free space checker work on non-4k sectorsize filesystems

The value of sector for space cache was hardcoded to 4k, and used to
calculate bitmap sizes. In kernel, the BITS_PER_BITMAP is derived from
PAGE_CACHE_SIZE which is not available for userspace, that can also deal
with filesystem of varying sectorsize.

Signed-off-by: David Sterba

Without this patch, In io_ctl_check_crc(), we end up passing an incorrect
"length" value to the crc32c_le() function.

The patch (2c0e02a568c7db99922e9080407f8fc22d1991bd) needs to picked to
help resolve this issue on Ubuntu.

[Bug 1268257] Re: nvidia-331-updates 331.38-0ubuntu3: nvidia-331-updates kernel module failed to build, with only error: "objdump: '... .tmp_nv.o': No such file"

2015-03-29 Thread dino99
All that is needed is simply to apply the nvidia-346 changes made to the other
used nvidia-3xx drivers (backport/sru)
(aka the 'uvm' package have to be inserted into the main nvidia-3xx package)

This is due to a DKMS limitation (by design) as reported with that other bug:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/trusty/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-346-updates/+bug/1431753

So lp:1268257 is the bad effects met due to lp:1431753 (quite a dupe)

[Bug 1325338] Re: proftpd service stopped by it's own

2015-03-29 Thread Colin Dearborn
Looks like it's the /etc/init.d/proftpd init script.
when the process is not running, "sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart" works. If
the process is already running, this command only shuts down proftpd.

stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep
stolen@derf:/etc$ sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart
 * Stopping ftp server proftpd [ OK ]
 * Starting ftp server proftpd [ OK ]
stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep
proftpd 20327 0.0 0.0 115956 2416 ?Ss 00:01 0:00 proftpd:
(accepting connections)
stolen@derf:/etc$ sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart
 * Stopping ftp server proftpd [ OK ]
 * Starting ftp server proftpd [ OK ]
stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep
stolen@derf:/etc$

It appears it's trying to start the process too quickly.
I altered the following code in the init script from:
force-reload|restart)
if [ "x$RUN" = "xyes" ] ; then
signal stop 1
start

To:
force-reload|restart)
if [ "x$RUN" = "xyes" ] ; then
signal stop 1
sleep 1
start

to add a 1 second pause, and now all is well:

stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep
proftpd 20512 0.0 0.0 115964 2420 ?Ss 00:02 0:00 proftpd:

stolen@derf:/etc$ sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart
 * Stopping ftp server proftpd [ OK ]
 * Starting ftp server proftpd [ OK ]
stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep
proftpd 20635 0.0 0.0 115956 2424 ?Ss 00:04 0:00 proftpd:

[Bug 1333630] Re: screen caught signal 11 core dumped

2015-03-29 Thread Fake Name
So. it's not getting fixed?

I use LTS releases be cause I assumed they were actually supported
(that's what the "S" in LTS means, or so I thought). Why on earth would
this not be released for all the currently "supported" variants.

Admittedly, it's rather hard to trigger, but it's a complete dealbreaker
when if it is triggered, particularly if you have long-running tasks in
a screen session (which is what I use it for). It occasionally triggers
on exiting htop, and basically ruins my entire day.

[Bug 1437100] Re: [MSI MS-7693] suspend/resume failure

2015-03-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
John Stevens, could you please test the next latest upstream kernel
available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release
names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily
folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

This should work after you apt-get install python3-venv
(python3.4-venv).

[Bug 1438011] [NEW] document viewer

2015-03-29 Thread octalman
Public bug reported:

Evince has some usability issues with "locked" files:

1. When a "locked" PDF is saved, it cannot be saved to iself, as
LibreOffice does for ordinary files. This is an issue with IRS and
State of Texas filing documents. They can be edited after having been
saved, but must be manually saved to a different file and the original
file manually deleted -- a great opportunity for screwups. I suppose
that's "reasonable", but being a mere mortal, I find that I often must
edit these things, sometimes several times, before finally printing them
for submission. Keeping up with the saved versions is a real hassle.

2. Besides being a hassle, it's a big time-waster saving an edited
locked government form. A semi-automagical renaming mechanism would be
a great help.

3. Edited PDF's are saved with the same timestamp as the source file.
This makes it more difficult to distinguish between saved versions.
It's also misleading, with potential legal repercussions for the user.
There's no way to distinguish as to when the file was actually created
in its new persona.

** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1438010] [NEW] clock is complete wrong after installing ntp package

2015-03-29 Thread LAZA
Public bug reported:

Package is right?
If i open up the help i get this page:
http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/clock

But ubuntu-bug says, there is no package "clock".

I did a fresh installation some days ago of 15.04 beta.

Yesterday (sunday) i change some things, and installed ntpdate for correct

The "Clock" as it is called in XFCE4-Panel was right and worked good AFTER the

Now, today (monday) morning at 6:33 the clock was on 3:58 !!!

[Bug 1436891] Re: Cannot connect to any WiFi access point which runs wireless-N

2015-03-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Darren Peets, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.16
to 3.19 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited
analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1391286] Re: Fails to generate thumbnail for small videos recorded with camera-app

2015-03-29 Thread James Henstridge
This seems to be related to the androidmedia elements from
gstreamer1.0-hybris, so changing the source package link: I can't
reproduce it with the standard elements.

In the hope that this might be a quirk of the pipeline used by vs-thumb,
I've ported the utility over to using the standard playbin element to
auto-plug the full pipeline (the same as mediahub):

https://code.launchpad.net/~jamesh/thumbnailer/thumbnail-
playbin/+merge/254025

The results are the same for these extra short videos. Jim: if you've
got any ideas, I'd love to hear them.

[Bug 1341925] Re: [Dell Inspiron 11 - 3147] System will hang on reboot / poweroff

2015-03-29 Thread Miles Wolbe
Thanks very much papashou! Dell Inspiron 11 3147 running Linux Mint 17.1
x64 would formerly fail to restart or shutdown, remaining stuck on Mint
logo screen. After upgrading BIOS to version A04 <

>, restart and shutdown work normally - no need for blacklisting dw_dmac
and dw_dmac_core as before (though thanks for that workaround,
Gilberto!).

[Bug 1290847] Re: pyvenv fails due to mising ensurepip module

2015-03-29 Thread Rob Speer
This seems to be broken in Vivid beta:

$ python3 -m venv testenv
Error: Command '['/home/rspeer/testenv/bin/python3', '-Im', 'ensurepip',
'--upgrade', '--default-pip']' returned non-zero exit status 1

I know that virtualenv can be installed separately, but it's a big wart
that Python 3 is supposed to have venv built in, and it doesn't work on
Ubuntu. Also, given that this bug is marked fixed, this must be a
regression.

[Bug 349988] Re: Hangs for 10 seconds when starting an admin app.

2015-03-29 Thread gravy45
@Sebastien Bacher, I'm sure that if I were in your shoes, I would be
saying many of the same things. It is clearly not showing up as a major
issue on https://errors.ubuntu.com. Then again, I'm not sure that
opening a program as administrator is all that common for most users, so
one would expect occurrence to be low. For those running applications
as administrator relatively often, it may not be low.

As @Troull.. points out, the issue has been around for quite a while,
the difference is "back then" it didn't occur as often. By back then
I'm referring to Ubuntu 11.04 and 12.04. Now with Ubuntu MATE 14.04 it
happens to me almost all the time. Maybe it can be given somewhat
greater importance based on that (since you asked about config-specific)
and the additional information I provide below?

What I'm throwing out there is the question: Is this caused by the
presence of the .gksu.lock file? And the other question is: Why would
that lock file be retained if the (offending) administratively-run
program has been closed? Shouldn't that lock file be removed at that
moment?

Additional info: the problem seems to begin after there has been a
.gksu.lock file created from a previous "Open as Administrator".If
there is no .gksu.lock file then at the first "Open as Administrator"
the issue does not occur. But when attempting a second "Open as
Administrator" and the .gksu.lock is still present from the first, then
the delay occurs.

I just did a quick test and generally it works and sends the PDF to CUPS. So
thanks again for this quick patch.

[Bug 983302] Re: ca-certificates-java fails to install java cacerts

2015-03-29 Thread Michael Alexander
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 927423 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927423

Thank you to Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) in comment #1:
http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ca-certificates-
java/+bug/983302/comments/1 . This issue has been driving me nuts and
nothing else I've tried has worked, but this fixed it instantly:

$ sudo dpkg --purge --force-depends ca-certificates-java

followed by

$ sudo apt-get install ca-certificates-java
