David Zafra Gómez, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.asus.com/Commercial_Notebook/ASUSPRO_ESSENTIAL_PU551LA/HelpDesk_Download/ an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (208). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status Confirmed. [Bug 1325338] Re: proftpd service stopped by it's own
Looks like it's the /etc/init.d/proftpd init script. when the process is not running, "sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart" works. If the process is already running, this command only shuts down proftpd. stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep stolen@derf:/etc$ sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart * Stopping ftp server proftpd [ OK ] * Starting ftp server proftpd [ OK ] stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep proftpd 20327 0.0 0.0 115956 2416 ?Ss 00:01 0:00 proftpd: (accepting connections) stolen@derf:/etc$ sudo /etc/init.d/proftpd restart * Stopping ftp server proftpd [ OK ] * Starting ftp server proftpd [ OK ] stolen@derf:/etc$ ps aux | grep proftp | grep -v grep stolen@derf:/etc$ It appears it's trying to start the process too quickly. [Bug 1333630] Re: screen caught signal 11 core dumped
So. it's not getting fixed? I use LTS releases be cause I assumed they were actually supported (that's what the "S" in LTS means, or so I thought). Why on earth would this not be released for all the currently "supported" variants. Admittedly, it's rather hard to trigger, but it's a complete dealbreaker when if it is triggered, particularly if you have long-running tasks in a screen session (which is what I use it for). It occasionally triggers on exiting htop, and basically ruins my entire day. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1333630 Title: screen caught signal 11 core dumped To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/screen/+bug/1333630/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

John Stevens, could you please test the next latest upstream kernel available from the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version. If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-3.XY-rcZ Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Bug 1438011] [NEW] document viewer
Public bug reported: Evince has some usability issues with "locked" files: 1. When a "locked" PDF is saved, it cannot be saved to iself, as LibreOffice does for ordinary files. This is an issue with IRS and State of Texas filing documents. They can be edited after having been saved, but must be manually saved to a different file and the original file manually deleted -- a great opportunity for screwups. I suppose that's "reasonable", but being a mere mortal, I find that I often must edit these things, sometimes several times, before finally printing them for submission. Keeping up with the saved versions is a real hassle. 2. Besides being a hassle, it's a big time-waster saving an edited locked government form. A semi-automagical renaming mechanism would be a great help. 3. Edited PDF's are saved with the same timestamp as the source file. This makes it more difficult to distinguish between saved versions. It's also misleading, with potential legal repercussions for the user. There's no way to distinguish as to when the file was actually created in its new persona. ** Affects: libreoffice (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1438011 Title: document viewer To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libreoffice/+bug/1438011/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1438010] [NEW] clock is complete wrong after installing ntp package
Public bug reported: Package is right? If i open up the help i get this page: http://docs.xfce.org/xfce/xfce4-panel/clock But ubuntu-bug says, there is no package "clock". - I did a fresh installation some days ago of 15.04 beta. Yesterday (sunday) i change some things, and installed ntpdate for correct internet time and date. The "Clock" as it is called in XFCE4-Panel was right and worked good AFTER the shift to summer time. Now, today (monday) morning at 6:33 the clock was on 3:58 !!! I double checked all things, it is still internet time. [Bug 1436891] Re: Cannot connect to any WiFi access point which runs wireless-N
Darren Peets, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.16 to 3.19 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ? [Bug 1391286] Re: Fails to generate thumbnail for small videos recorded with camera-app
This seems to be related to the androidmedia elements from gstreamer1.0-hybris, so changing the source package link: I can't reproduce it with the standard elements. In the hope that this might be a quirk of the pipeline used by vs-thumb, I've ported the utility over to using the standard playbin element to auto-plug the full pipeline (the same as mediahub): https://code.launchpad.net/~jamesh/thumbnailer/thumbnail- playbin/+merge/254025 The results are the same for these extra short videos. [Bug 349988] Re: Hangs for 10 seconds when starting an admin app.
@Sebastien Bacher, I'm sure that if I were in your shoes, I would be saying many of the same things. It is clearly not showing up as a major issue on https://errors.ubuntu.com. Then again, I'm not sure that opening a program as administrator is all that common for most users, so one would expect occurrence to be low. For those running applications as administrator relatively often, it may not be low. As @Troull.. points out, the issue has been around for quite a while, the difference is "back then" it didn't occur as often. By back then I'm referring to Ubuntu 11.04 and 12.04. Now with Ubuntu MATE 14.04 it happens to me almost all the time. Maybe it can be given somewhat greater importance based on that (since you asked about config-specific) and the additional information I provide below? What I'm throwing out there is the question: Is this caused by the presence of the .gksu.lock file? And the other question is: Why would that lock file be retained if the (offending) administratively-run program has been closed? Shouldn't that lock file be removed at that moment? Additional info: the problem seems to begin after there has been a .gksu.lock file created from a previous "Open as Administrator".If there is no .gksu.lock file then at the first "Open as Administrator" the issue does not occur. But when attempting a second "Open as Administrator" and the .gksu.lock is still present from the first, then the delay occurs. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/349988 Title: Hangs for 10 seconds when starting an admin app. To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gksu/+bug/349988/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 891199]
I just did a quick test and generally it works and sends the PDF to CUPS. So thanks again for this quick patch. I currently don't have time to turn this patch into a really useable version and I don't know if anybody will add enought priority to it and work on it (I'm leaving for a holiday at least until July). -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/891199 Title: Okular sends print jobs in PostScript format To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/kdegraphics/+bug/891199/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 983302] Re: ca-certificates-java fails to install java cacerts
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 927423 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/927423 Thank you to Jamie Strandboge (jdstrand) in comment #1: http://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ca-certificates- java/+bug/983302/comments/1 . This issue has been driving me nuts and nothing else I've tried has worked, but this fixed it instantly: $ sudo dpkg --purge --force-depends ca-certificates-java followed by $ sudo apt-get install ca-certificates-java -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/983302 Title: ca-certificates-java fails to install java cacerts To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ca-certificates-java/+bug/983302/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
