[Bug 1443434] [NEW] VLC's image is scrambled when using XVideo

2015-04-13 Thread rivode
Public bug reported:

I'm getting purple or green spots on the video picture when playing
videos with VLC. I changed the video output to OpenGL or X11, and the
problem went away. When the window is maximized or full screen, the
picture is fine.

This message appears when starting VLC:

Failed to open VDPAU backend libvdpau_i965.so: cannot open shared object
file: No such file or directory

but I didn't find this file when searching packages.ubuntu.com.

I haven't noticed this in any other applications, but I've only tried
Totem, which works fine.

[Bug 1213173] Re: Does not handle 802.1Q tagged frames correctly

2015-04-13 Thread Karl-Heinz Pape
Hello!
I've installed kernel 2.6.38-16-generic and still have the same error.
So is it really an issue with the kernel?

If it IS an issue with the kernel building a new version of libpcap and
tcpdump will not help.

So I might have to set up a System with 10.04 to verify...

The improvements to security we applied should not interfere with
logging to ubuntu forums, at all.

Could you please file a new bug and share the number here, so we track
that issue separately?

Thanks.

[Bug 1414988] Re: KDE-plasma Search and Launch changes screen layout with 2nd monitor

2015-04-13 Thread udippel
Okay, one more observation:
The whole thing can be rectified, post-login, by turning that external
secondary monitor (the 'star'ed one with the menu on it) off. then all windows
automatically pop back to the build-in monitor, then turning that external
monitor off in the 'Display and Monitor' in 'System Settings' by removing the
tick on that monitor, 'apply', adding back that tick, 'star'ing it again (to
indicate that it should carry the menu), 'apply'.
Then the geometry is as expected.
From all this, I dare to suspect that the trouble comes in through the
timing(s) at logon. It looks like everything is okay, when the external
display comes up after the build-in one, gets activated, and then receives the
menu.

2015-04-13 Thread Matthew Lenz
With the most recent kernel update the reconfigure trick has stopped
working for me. I just moved to the xorg-edgers ppa to fix the problem.
Found some instructions people can follow.

http://ubuntuguide.net/install-nvidia-proprietary-drivers-in-
ubuntu-14-04

You should be safe going to 340 but you can check:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/unix.html

and go to 340 for your arch (x86 or x86_64) and click on supported
products. Look for your card. If it isn't supported go down a legacy
version and check the next one. Edgers has support for back to 304.

[Bug 1443470] [NEW] Akonadi depends on mysql

2015-04-13 Thread Rafael Kassner
Public bug reported:

I'm using Kubuntu 14.04.2 and I am having trouble removing the MySQL
package because akonadi-server depends on akonadi-backend-mysql, so when
I remove that package the entire KDE goes away.

I can't just change akonadi to use SQLite because I still can't remove
the akonadi-backend-mysql. Isn't there a way to allow removing mysql-
server without removing akonadi, or remove akonadi without removing the
entire KDE?

Thanks.

[Bug 1437652] Re: Bluetooth is enabled after leaving air plane mode even if it was deaktivated bevore

2015-04-13 Thread Davide Alberelli
I experience the same problem as bogdanke8:

bq device, Ubuntu 14.10 (r20).

Steps to reproduce:
1) turn off Bluetooth
2) turn on Airplane mode,
3) turn off Airplane mode.

What happens:
Bluetooth is always turned on

What should happen:
It gets restored to the previous state

I believe that this is a big regression from the original bug posted by HP,
where this behaviour occurs only if between steps 2 and 3 there is reboot.

[Bug 1422814] Re: indicator-datetime crashes when 'Weekday' or 'Day and month' are checked

2015-04-13 Thread Charles Kerr
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is either missing or
challenging to deal with as a .crash file. Please follow these
instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can
be dealt with by the automatic retracer.

If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable
apport in /etc/default/apport and restart.

Now open your file manager, navigate to your /var/crash directory and open the
crash report you wish to submit.
If this fails you will have to open a terminal and file your report with
'ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash' where _my_crash_report.crash is
the crash you would like to report. If you get an error that you aren't allowed
to access this report you will have to file it with 'sudo ubuntu-bug
/var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash'.

I'm closing this bug report since the process outlined above will
automatically open a new bug report which can then dealt with more
efficiently. Thanks in advance for your cooperation and understanding.

[Bug 1442637] Re: [System Settings] After adding an online account, users should always be able to see account options

2015-04-13 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Sorry, I have to mark this as Incomplete, because there's no steps to
reproduce and I can't guess them. :-)

If you were adding an account from an app through System Settings
because you were sent there by an app [you] came from, that is a bug
in the app, like bug 1372860. An app should not send you to Online
Accounts in System Settings (except as a last resort if you have already
denied the app access to an account, but you've indicated that you've
changed your mind).

But since you say users are always redirected straight back to the app
they came from, maybe that's not what is happening. System Settings
doesn't send you to any app, as far as I know. Instead, maybe the app is
invoking the standard Online Accounts prompt. You aren't in System
Settings, it's just that the authorization Web view looks like a System
Settings screen because that is the odd way in which Ubuntu Touch shows
full-screen dialogs.

I'm also unclear what account options you're referring to. The only
options I see at the moment are the choice of which apps have access to
a particular account. But presenting those options would be
inappropriate when you're authorizing an account for a particular app.
For example, imagine that an OEM preinstalled Words With Friends. When
the Facebook app prompted you for a Facebook account, your journey to
Facebook shouldn't be interrupted by the question of whether you want to
also use your Facebook account with Words With Friends. You might never
use that game, and not even know what it is, let alone whether it really
needs a Facebook account. But that's okay, because if/when you actually
get around to using it, Words With Friends would be perfectly capable of
prompting for access to the Facebook account itself. The System Settings
panel exists mainly for you to revoke access if you need to, not for you
to give access in the first place.

I just install xfc 4.12 from Xubuntu dev ppa. The bug still exists. The

2015-04-13 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1443325/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

I added to the ppa version for trusty too. It requires 'linux-generic-

But now it can be obtained from ppa:canonical-kernel-team/ppa.

Unfortunately there is kernel version 3.19.0-12.2. I have some
brightness issues with that version. With 3.19.0-13 it is OK.

[Bug 1347859] Re: Introduction of Predictable Network Interface Names (aka biosdevname) breaks working systems

2015-04-13 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to file this and helping to make Ubuntu
better. I appreciate your detailed write-up and understand your
frustration at the changes made.

Before going into policy questions, I'd like to clear up a couple of
factual concerns I have after reading your report. I think it'd be
useful to clarify these first so that opinions can be formed based on
accurate facts.

My first concern is that you say that you ended up with interfaces
renamed according to biosdevname after a release upgrade when they
weren't being renamed before the release upgrade. As far as I
understand, this was never the intention and upon examination I can see
no code that would cause this to happen. My understanding is that the
biosdevname package that does the renaming is only installed at first
install time by the installer, and not installed after that. A release
upgrade should not cause biosdevname to get installed. So can you (or
someone) please confirm that this is definitely the behaviour in some
case, and if so provide steps to reproduce so that we can understand the
mechanism involved here that is making this happen? I suggest that you
do this in a separate bug against biosdevname to start with (eg.
Interfaces get renamed on release upgrades) so that if it is a bug
that can be fixed without any policy-level discussion then we can do it
without cluttering this bug.

Second, you say that some distributions require both systemd and
biosdevname interface renaming to be disabled. My understanding is that
on Ubuntu with systemd (so Vivid only), we do not rename interfaces via
systemd by default - this must be done explicitly. Can we assume for the
rest of the discussion that this is true, or otherwise can you provide
steps to reproduce that demonstrate that it is not (again, another bug
might be a good idea to avoid cluttering this one)?

Re: [Bug 1373463] Re: [indicators] Impossible to disable cellular data from indicator

2015-04-13 Thread Alberto Mardegan
On 04/13/2015 11:57 AM, Matthew Paul Thomas wrote:
with a switch would be the least reliable way of solving it. For

actively using Telegram on a PC, that is a bug in the app. Have you
 reported it?

No, because I know it's not fixable. Well, it might be possible to fix
it for Telegram, which is open source, but the generic problem remains:
for Twitter and GMail, for example, there is no way to know that we are
logged in from another device too.
But I don't want to get notifications from GMail and Twitter on my
phone, when I'm actively using them on the PC.

[Bug 1385137] Re: [ASUS N550JK] Touchpad recognized wrongly as PS/2 mouse

2015-04-13 Thread Pilot6
I made a ppa with Focaltech driver. It is here

ppa:hanipouspilot/focaltech-dkms

Read instructions before install pls. Users of Ubuntu 14.04 will need
linux-generic-lts-vivid package.
It pulls 3.19 kernel. At the moment it is 3.19.0-12. I have some graphics
issues with it.
With 3.19.0-13 it is OK. I hope they will update the ppa soon.
And soon we wait that that package appears in Ubuntu main repository.

[Bug 1443424] [NEW] Header blocks key press events from reaching it's Page

2015-04-13 Thread Michael Hall
Public bug reported:

The Header component added to a Page in a PageStack will prevent key
press events from reaching the underlying Page when it is the component
that has keyboard focus.

08:35 zsombi_ mhall119: key events should also go to non-focused items...
08:36 zsombi_ mhall119: they don't seem to...
08:36 mhall119 zsombi_: what I'm trying to do is catch an F5 key press on a
page to refresh it's content, but if I clicked on the header
instead of the content of the Page, it won't work
08:37 zsombi_ mhall119: right, as keys seem to go only to the focused item,
in which case it'll be the header...
08:37 mhall119 zsombi_: currently my code looks like
  http://paste.ubuntu.com/10815509/
08:39 zsombi_ mhall119: we should have sthing in the header, like
 Keys.forwardTo: []

[Bug 1443178] Re: Accounts Service always relies on language fallback if never set by the user

2015-04-13 Thread Michał Sawicz
OK so the unity8/wizard part seems to be that the language isn't being
stored in AS if it's not changed from default. This could very well be
libubuntu-system-settings then.

** Changed in: unity8 (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1432446] Re: Login after startup

2015-04-13 Thread Charles Kerr
Doesn't look like it -- I don't see anything sensitive in the crash
attachments.

** Information type changed from Private to Public

** Summary changed:

- Login after startup
+ indicator-sound-service crashed with signal 5 in
indicator_sound_service_construct()

[Bug 1443178] Re: Accounts Service always relies on language fallback if never set by the user

2015-04-13 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Hi Michal,

Please note that the problem isn't Unity 8 specific. I added that
user_get_fallback_value() function a few years ago (admittedly it's a
little 'heavy'), and the purpose was to get the start value right in
various GUIs for setting language/locale, both in Ubuntu and the
flavours. Even if I'm not quite sure yet, I think the problem is best
fixed in the accountsservice package.

[Bug 1350821] Re: unity-panel-service crashed with SIGSEGV in ido_calendar_menu_item_key_press()

2015-04-13 Thread Charles Kerr
 Thread 1 (Thread 0x7ffbbbaa39c0 (LWP 2565)):
 #0 ido_calendar_menu_item_key_press (widget=widget@entry=0x1e090f0,
 event=0x7fff8761dad0, data=0x0, data@entry=0x1e37790) at
 idocalendarmenuitem.c:159

The crash is straightforward enough, but I'm not sure yet what's causing
it.

data is NULL, and ido_calendar_menu_item_key_press() casts it to an
IdoCalendarMenuItem* and dereferences it:

 static gboolean
 ido_calendar_menu_item_key_press (GtkWidget *widget,
   GdkEventKey *event,
   gpointer data)
 {
   IdoCalendarMenuItem *menuitem = (IdoCalendarMenuItem *)data;

   if (menuitem-priv-selected)
 {

...

[Bug 1442884] Re: kernel BUG at /build/buildd/linux-3.19.0/fs/btrfs/inode.c:3142!

2015-04-13 Thread Joseph Salisbury
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade? Was there a
prior kernel version where you were not having this particular problem?

Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest
v4.0 kernel[0].

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not boot,
please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream'.
Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug as
Confirmed.

Thanks in advance.
