[Bug 1270203] Re: no way to use resizepart non-interactively on busy partition

2015-04-14 Thread Scott Moser
ok. i gave Jesse's suggestion a try.
It does seem to work, but some things are a bit annoying
a.) if the partition is not mounted, then passing 'yes' as shown results in
error.
 | $ sudo mount /dev/vdb1 /mnt
 | $ sudo parted /dev/vdb resizepart 1 yes 1024
 | Warning: Partition /dev/vdb1 is being used. Are you sure you want to
continue?
 | Information: You may need to update /etc/fstab.
 |
 | $ echo $?
 | 0

 However:
 | $ sudo umount /mnt
 | $ sudo parted /dev/vdb resizepart 1 yes 1024
 | Error: Invalid number.
 | $ echo $?
 | 1

b.) I have to know the target size. I'd like to just say make it as
big as possible.

I could work around both, but both are annoying.

The five-year support only applies to packages supported by Canonical (like
Ubuntu desktop with Unity, or Ubuntu Server).

All other packages are supported for three years, and that period has
almost ended.

It appears the .deb file is corrupt.

You may need to run the following from a terminal:

sudo apt-get install -f
sudo apt-get clean
sudo apt-get update

Then re-install the package.

If that does not resolve your issue, please mark the bug as Confirmed

[Bug 1434206] Re: No permission to access files on storage device

2015-04-14 Thread Uno Ytterbom
After upgrading to 14.04 I was not asked to enter my password. I am
lucky to have my PC in my house where no else can come in. I updated the
system as soon as I get information, and often I got a new kernel. I had
kernel Ubuntu 14.04 LTS kernel 3.2.0-30, but got often new kernels so I
have now kernels ending in -34 up to -46 both generic and recovery
mode, but none of them works. It ends up with a dead keayboard and dead
mouse, so I have to go back to 3.2.0-30. to boot the system. So far I
had access to my USB-Disks, but ten I saw 10.10 was released so I hoped
that would solv my problems but it was really a disaster. The upgrade
went wrong and endit up with a message like installation failed,
backing up (I am not shure of the excact words). After that I had no
access to my USB disks. See the screendump below.

Now I can't do an update or upgrade any more

I have the target for my backup on one USB-disc and the backup program
can't access that disc, so I have big problems now. Hope you can help me
to get back a good Ubuntu-system, that I love when tit works as expected.

[Bug 1444002] Re: [launcher] visual feedback from tap/click on app icon is inconsistent

2015-04-14 Thread Jonas G. Drange
** Summary changed:

- [launcher] visual feedback on tap is too subtle
+ [launcher] visual feedback from tap/click on app icon is inconsistent

** Description changed:

- Reproduce:
- Always
+ Clicking/tapping an app icon is not the same in the launcher and in the
+ app scope. This is confusing.

  $ system-image-cli  -i
  current build number: 127
  device name: m75
  channel: ubuntu-touch/vivid-proposed
  last update: 2015-03-10 16:26:39
  version version: 127

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Open launcher
  2. Click or tap an open or closed application.

  What happens:
- There's a time between a click/tap, when the system spawns a spinner (and
closes the launcher), where nothing happens.
+ There's no visual feedback on the button (app icon)

  What should happen instead:
- You should immediately get feedback that the button was clicked/tapped.
+ There should be a feedback on the button (app icon) as there is in the app
scope.

[Bug 1320683] Re: Update manager does not show all available updates

2015-04-14 Thread Paul Crawford
Having read the page on phased updates I can see the rational behind that.
However, it is still a broken GUI in my view because it is not telling you the
whole story. You are told one thing by the GUI and another if you look at the
package status vit apt-get or similar.
Would it not be better to tell folk in the GUI that updates are being deployed
in a phased manner? That way you could see if there was something you really
wanted done now, or just leave the machine to deploy them over the phased
period?

[Bug 1435328] Re: Leaving Wifi does not connect to mobile carrier data (GSM)

2015-04-14 Thread Tony Espy
Here's the latest update on what we know about this bug.

First, we have working fix for ofono's behavior when a
DATA_CALL_LIST_CHANGED message is received with an empty call list, and
the context stays active but becomes stale/non-working. This should
land in a silo by early tomorrow.

Second, Alfonso has pointed out that there may be additional network-
manager changes required. His original testing performed on
krillin/vivid, and as there's still a race between the disconnect from
ofono, and NM changing the default route, it's still possible for an
error to be thrown when NM configures the default route for the modem.
When this happen, NM leaves the connection in an inconsistent state.
When he tried the same scenario on krillin/RTM plus the patched ofono,
it worked. I believe he may have just been lucky, and the disconnect
happened before the default route logic ran. This is a guess, so we
have some more work to in figuring this out.

As these fixes are critical enough to warrant a hot-fix to RTM, we're
going to concentrate on it first, and then address vivid.

[Bug 1270410] Re: package tex-common 4.04 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2015-04-14 Thread Dustin
PLEASE NOTE: I am brand new to the linux Ubuntu os . I have a Gigabyte
Z77X-ud5h, Intel 3770k i7, 32gb Corsair DDR3. I was previously runing
windows 7 pro 64 bit, booting on a Samsung 500gb SSD. Running games
with two Raptor 1 rpm HDD raid 0 set-up with the built in marvell
raid controller worked GREAT. I also do music production with
sonar and fl studio, computer ran above expectations, but the old SSD
crashed along with the os and all drivers... my bad, learn from your
mistakes right? I decided to install Ubuntu 14.4 after rebuilding my
system, the Ubuntu 14.4 install failed several times until i tried an
older version, 12.4, the install took all night. After making myself
more familiar with the new OS, I upgraded to 14.4 THIS TOOK FOREVER, I
have tested for hardware issues but everything is great, Ive got the
same errors displayed in this forum, need some help leaving windows in
the dust and learning how to take advantage of Ubuntu! I know windows in
and out, but some habits are hard to break and would love some help for
a new user thanks everyone!

[Bug 1042511] Re: postrm fails when syslinux-themes-debian is removed after extlinux has been removed

2015-04-14 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello messajunior, or anyone else affected,

Accepted syslinux-themes-debian into utopic-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/syslinux-themes-debian/12-3ubuntu0.14.10.1 in a few hours, and then in
the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 495880] Re: File Roller cannot handle archive that doesn't encode filenames in UTF-8

2015-04-14 Thread Misaki
The undocumented -O/-I option~

So unzip can handle different encodings, at least when I tested it. But
it doesn't handle them automatically. p7zip doesn't work because, as
noted in Bug #269482, it only handles UTF-8 and ASCII (or maybe
ISO-8859).

When I uninstalled p7zip and p7zip-full and looked at archives, some had
the pattern of mojibake that I'm used to, and some had a new type. None
of them were correct. So it's possible there is some automatic
correction and this is why Bug #580961 for unzip has been marked as
fixed.

Automatic detection can probably usually be correct, but it could also
sometimes be wrong. Either file-roller or unzip could probably improve
their automatic detection, and in case certainty is low communicate this
to users so they know there might be a problem.

Two other bugs, #592109 and #1199239, refer to non-ASCII filenames
encoded in UTF-8, which is likely to be the output from Unix-like
systems.

So non-UTF-8 encodings are probably from computers running Windows (?).

Some open-source programs that do automatic detection of encodings
include Firefox and, I think, gedit. Also maybe a bit similar to magic
numbers used to determine file types..?

This might be how those programs already do this, but I think the way to
detect the proper encoding is to interpret the filenames as a certain
type, and then look for characters, or character combinations, that are
unlikely to appear in a normal filename, or that can't even be output on
the file system type.

For example, the character '‚', U+0082 control BREAK PERMITTED HERE,
often appears in some languages when common encodings are interpreted as
iso8859(-number?). Either file-roller or unzip could test various
combinations to see what looks valid.

This is worse than an archive file saying what encoding it uses, but
basically it seems like some regions (like Japan) don't feel like using
UTF-8. The zip format, which is probably worse than other formats in
handling filenames, is probably still used because it encodes the
contents of files separately, which means it's faster but gives worse
compression than other archive formats. Maybe there are other reasons
it's faster too.

Having a unique file suffix for a certain set of compression options or
quality means that people don't have to worry about which options to
choose, and can't argue about which ones other people should use for
that suffix. There is probably also a sort of stigma attached to having
a poor compression ratio for many types of files, compared to other
formats. (For example, some non-zip archive formats can compress a
windows bmp file so that it's smaller than a png of the same image,
especially if the image has repeating portions.)

So either people can agree on a 'low-quality' archive suffix to use in
cases where actual compression isn't important, that's also operating-
system independent, or we will continue to encounter zips from different
languages that don't tell you how to decode the file names.

[Bug 1444226] Re: [Kubuntu 15.04 beta] can't connect to wifi with Ralink RT2561/RT61 and NetworkManager

2015-04-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

05:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

In Kubuntu 15.04 my connection is very unstable using NetworkManager.
Most of the time the connection is not established. And very few times
the connection is established but after a few seconds the connection
- drops. But with Wicd my connection is stable. I installed Wicd from
- Kubuntu 14.04 using chroot. Unfortunately in this new Kubuntu version
- if you try to uninstall network-manager then plasma-desktop is
- requested to be uninstalled (apparently because of plasma-nm). So I do
- the following to use Wicd:
+ drops. Unfortunately in this new Kubuntu version if you try to uninstall
+ network-manager then plasma-desktop is requested to be uninstalled
+ (apparently because of plasma-nm).

+ WORKAROUND: I installed Wicd from Kubuntu 14.04 using chroot:
1- Start the system and try not use Network Manager
  2- kill network manager
  $ sudo pkill -9 NetworkManager
3- Start wicd from menu internet
-
- And I can connect to WiFi and the connection is stable.
-
- By the way, it's a bad thing that you can not uninstall network-manager
- to use another manager in Kubuntu. So, at least there should be an
- option from the systemsettings to can choose the default network
- manager.

bug seems to be fixed there.

I tried this only with “Open Terminal here”, didn't try any other

[Bug 1423758]

2015-04-14 Thread Hudd
I checked put the git master (http://git.xfce.org/xfce/thunar/log/) again, and
can't reproduce the bug there.
Strangely, fix didn't work the first time when I applied patch from the bug
#11749 manually.

Tested it again few times, seems like it's fixed.

I guess, I'll report it again, if I notice it appearing.

[Bug 1423758]

2015-04-14 Thread Hudd
Ok, I tried reproducing bug again on git master and fix-bug-11008
branch.

As it turns out, I didn't repeat my steps in the comment #2 properly ;)

 2. Navigate into it, right-click “Open Terminal Here”

It is important to use right-click menu, not the “File” menu.

 4. Navigate to parent directory

I navigate to the parent folder through button on toolbar or “Go - Open
Parent”

 5. Delete the newly created folder

Bug appears when folder is deleted via “delete” on keyboard or “Edit -
Delete, but doesn't when I use right-click menu.

 6. Select in menu: “File” - “Open Terminal Here”

Only happens with “File” menu, but not with right-click menu.

[Bug 1423758]

2015-04-14 Thread Hjudt-l
If you've tried the fix-bug-11008 branch and it fixes it, then this is a
reload bug and doesn't have to do much with the custom actions
themselves, the bug is only different symptoms.

If you have build the master branch from there, then I have no clue
which commit fixed it, and you will have to bisect to find out. My
private master branch is a bit older than the official one, and I have
stopped tracking it due to conflicts. However, the fix-bug-11008 is
based on the official master branch. Sorry for the confusion.

[Bug 1444205] [NEW] 'service network-manager restart' causes NM to destroy IP config of interfaces it's not managing (e.g., virbr0)

2015-04-14 Thread Steve Langasek
Public bug reported:

On occasion I need to restart the network-manager service due to

[Bug 1444179] Re: add hid drivers to virtual kernel

2015-04-14 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1444179/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you

[Bug 1042511] Re: postrm fails when syslinux-themes-debian is removed after extlinux has been removed

2015-04-14 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Hello messajunior, or anyone else affected,

Accepted syslinux-themes-debian into trusty-proposed. The package will
build now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source
/syslinux-themes-debian/12-3ubuntu0.14.04.1 in a few hours, and then in
the -proposed repository.

Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1444226] [NEW] [Kubuntu 15.04 beta] can't connect to wifi with Ralink RT2561/RT61 and NetworkManager

2015-04-14 Thread YAFU
Public bug reported:

Hello.
I have a Ralink with RT2561/RT61 chip:
$ lspci | grep -i network
05:00.0 Network controller: Ralink corp. RT2561/RT61 802.11g PCI

In Kubuntu 15.04 my connection is very unstable using NetworkManager.
Most of the time the connection is not established. And very few times
the connection is established but after a few seconds the connection
drops. But with Wicd my connection is stable. I installed Wicd from
Kubuntu 14.04 using chroot. Unfortunately in this new Kubuntu version
if you try to uninstall network-manager then plasma-desktop is
requested to be uninstalled (apparently because of plasma-nm). So I do
the following to use Wicd:

1- Start the system and try not use Network Manager
2- kill network manager
$ sudo pkill -9 NetworkManager
3- Start wicd from menu internet

And I can connect to WiFi and the connection is stable.

By the way, it's a bad thing that you can not uninstall network-manager
to use another manager in Kubuntu. So, at least there should be an
option from the systemsettings to can choose the default network
manager.

Going to try Ubuntu 12.04.5 - 14.04.2 tonight.

The Ubuntu GNOME folks may have some work to do on their end, too. So
that may be a bit.
