[Bug 1451337] [NEW] Pressing the Super key inside a VMWare Horizon View window causes the Shortcut Overlay to pop up
Public bug reported: Hi, I often work with remote machines through VMWare Horizon Client. Whenever I use shortcuts with the Super key inside a remote machine, Unity thinks I'm long-pressing it, and shows me the Shortcut Hints Overlay, and also highlights icon numbers in the Unity Launcher. The main point here is the overlay pops up immediately, even though the Super key pressed and released in a split second. This should happen only when the Super key is long-pressed outside of VMWare Horizon Client. This issue is reproducible on Ubuntu 14.10 and 15.04, VMWare Clients 2.2.0 (available in the official repos for Trusty as vmware-view-client) and 3.2.0 (from VMWare's website). I understand that it may not be a Unity problem, but rather the way the Horizon Client handles keys grabbing. Hopefully, there's a way to fix or a workaround it on the Unity side. [Bug 1451098] Re: hardcoded bash dependency
On 2015-05-03 21:43, god wrote: > Ironically the bug you're referring to was introduced exactly by > some bashism dropped into place where it did not belong to. Yeah, you are right. The bashism which originally motivated the bug is now valid code. But to summarize: lightdm now runs /usr/sbin/lightdm-session under bash. It means that some files for session configuration, such as ~/.profile or /etc/profile.d/*.sh, accept bashisms, which some users appreciate. But more importantly: It allows for a decent exception handling if a user makes a mistake when adding code to those configuration files. While you say it's "strange" or "odd", the setup does not really prevent you from using some other shell but bash or else prevents you from doing anything, right? I'd like to close this bug report. [Bug 1432492] Re: Firefox and Thunderbird freezes entire system after a few seconds of use
Hi Dave, I uploaded some screen captures that paint a better picture of what's going on. Please see the attachments to my above comments. You suggested that I attempt to ssh into the frozen VM and, if possible, look at relevant logs. I was able to access my VM when its desktop was frozen, but honestly, I don't know what logs I should be looking for. I did, however, run "top" and noticed that one root process was at over 100% cpu usage while the desktop was frozen. Please see "top.png" attached to Comment #19. With regard to the QEMU logs on my host, I found nothing noteworthy. I'm just a hobbyist, and tracking down bugs is a bit beyond my skill level. With that in mind, I hope maybe you or someone else who is more capable than me would be willing to create an Ubuntu 15.04 VM and look a little further into this. Who knows, maybe this is just a quirk of my system. But if someone else can reproduce what I'm seeing, then this is probably a pretty big issue, even if not always noticeable. So others will not spend their times on the wrong path. 2. My fix and workaround aren't mention anywhere so I hope this will hellp others to at least stop further repeated problems. [Bug 1447331] Re: will not resume from suspend
No problems with 14.04 not resuming from suspend. I will have recheck 14.10. Never had this will not resume from suspend issue before in my history of using Ubuntu and ubuntu family of distros with this laptop. With 15.04 one of the big new changes was systemd so I assumed will not resume from suspend was related to systemd. I have attached systemctl-failed.txt to this comment and systemctl_list-unit-file.txt will be also attached to this bug report. ** Attachment added: "systemctl-failed.txt" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1447331/+attachment/4390480/+files/systemctl-failed.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1447331 Title: will not resume from suspend To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1447331/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Quoting Serge Hallyn > Perhaps after a (reasonably long) timeout we should assume > it is dead, hard-kill the container (in this case the owner of the > command socket), and continue. I'm seeing this behaviour happen in Vivid although in my case the "stuck" container is perfectly responsive and is working fine e.g. if I ssh into it. So the assumption that the container is dead and should be killed may not be the answer... I'd rather have the container work and lxc-ls broken than the other way around. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1377973 Title: lxc-destroy/lxc-stop gets stuck To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxc/+bug/1377973/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Shaun Crampton, as per https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1358248 an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (P06AAC). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything? If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. [Bug 1451246] Re: Intel 7265 Wifi instability workaround
So... I'm actually stumped atm. The tldr is that everything is just stable now on wireless-n mode.. on all kernels and the default firmware! I'll go through exactly what I did I'm typing this on on the default 3.19 kernel Keep in mind that I installed tlp (and the dkms's for thinkpads). 1. Commented out my workaround 'echo "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1'" in /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf - I just added '# ' in front of that line which was on the last page 2. install the 4.1RC1 kernel: - http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.1-rc1-vivid/ I restarted here Then booted into the 4.1RC1 kernel. 3. Test the 4.1RC1 kernel with the firmware from the /lib/firmware/ git (the not standard ucodes!) - Ran Speedtest: stable - Watch Youtube Videos: stable - open Connection Information fluctuates speeds between 77 Mbps and 150 Mbps - Conclusion: Wireless N is stable 4. Test 4.1RC1 kernel with the standard /lib/firmware packages - delete the git /lib/firmware/ reinstall linux-firmware - cd /lib/firmware - sudo rm iwlwifi-7265*.ucode - sudo apt-get --reinstall install linux-firmware - restarted the computer - Actual testing - Speedtest: success - watch youtube: success - open Connection Information fluctuates speeds between 77 Mbps and 150 Mbps - Conclusion: 4.1RC1 is stable with Wireless-N 5. Test 4.0.1 mainline kernel with stardard /lib/firmware packages - speedtest: success - watch youtube: success - open Connection Information fluctuates speeds between 77 Mbps and 150 Mbps - Conclusion: 4.0.1 is now somehow stable with Wireless-N 6. Test 4.0.1 mainline kernel with stardard /lib/firmware packages AND delete the workaround commented line - opened "/etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf" and deleted the line "# options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" - speedtest: success - watch youtube: success - open Connection Information fluctuates speeds between 77 Mbps and 150 Mbps - Conclusion: 4.0.1 is now somehow stable with Wireless-N 7. Test the standard 3.19 kernel with standard /lib/firmware packages with the deleted workaround line - speedtest: success - watch youtube: success - open Connection Information fluctuates speeds between 77 Mbps and 150 Mbps - Conclusion: 3.19.x is now somehow stable with Wireless-N So yes Apparently my wifi is magically stable! I cannot give you an explanation at all, so I apologize why this would just magically work. Maybe the first install of linux-firmware was just messed up? Or maybe installing tlp and its modules did something?
