Re: [Bug 1081019] Re: Benchmark for disks always fails on 32 bit systems

2015-05-23 Thread Ivan Baldo
The good news is that the fix has been applied upstream, so it will
trickle down to Debian and then to Ubuntu I guess, maybe in next version
15.10.
Too bad that it took so long just for a one liner patch and a
simple test...

2015-05-23 Thread Deevad
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1247137 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247137

Zenity 3.8 version is also in 14.04 , and so in all Linux Mint 17.x , and all
Elementary O.S.
( Long term support, till 2019 afaik ) ; That's why I post here
thisworkaround for those doing Bash script on this platform and getting stuck
by this bug :

#!/bin/bash
menuchoice=$(zenity --list --column Pet Chien Chat);
menuchoicecleaned=${menuchoice%|*}
echo $menuchoicecleaned

This return single
Chien
or
Chat
in every case.

[Bug 1440210]

2015-05-23 Thread Thomas-luebking
This is rather unrelated - although this bug has become a general I
perceive a problem dumpster anyway.

The original report actually sounds a lot like related to bug #340294

The we have some reports which are likely related to the stale lock file bugs
in KConfig Qt:
https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/110346/ and
https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/122549/

Then we've complete freezes of the X11 server

Finally there're some kwin artifacts after issues - this matches yours and I
bet your right arm that you've an nvidia GPU - the invalidated vertext buffers
will more likely relate to te switch to VT1 than anything else (run dmesg |
grep NVRM and check whether it says something about unspported framebuffer
consoles, but this lately was reported regardless)
VLC will likely require 100% cpu because it (or rather the driver) is
performing a busy wait for the next vblank signal (which is not gonna occur)

The most simple resolution of invalidated vertex buffers is to restart the
compositor (press SHIFT+Alt+F12 twice)

I had the same problem. I removed my graphics card and tried the onboard
graphics and no more freezing. I installed the correct Nvidia drivers
for my graphics card and it now works perfectly. I found this great post
on how to install the correct driver for my graphics card.

You can disable xfce4-power-manager by deactivating its autostart

However, this bug seems to be triggered by your hardware. Use journalctl

 Title:
   external usb breaks suspend

Status in xfce4-session package in Ubuntu:
   Incomplete

 Bug description:
After booting xubuntu 15.04 it's possible to suspend it the normal way
BUT - only until you've plugged external usb hard drive. After that
(even if it was unmounted and removed) it becomes impossible: the
system goes to suspend briefly (for bout 1 second) but immediately
wakes up for no apparent reason.

I suspect there's some weird bug in xfce power management - is there a
way to disable it alltogether and rely on systemd directly instead?

[Bug 1440210]

2015-05-23 Thread Maarten Bezemer
A workaround (at least fix the frozen desktop) without restarting,
ending sessions, etc. is to switch to another tty (eg tty1 with CTRL-
ALT-F1) and type:

DISPLAY=:0 kwin_x11 --replace

When switching back to the desktop, it is seen restarting and everything
is working again.

Description: Ubuntu Trusty 14.04

One of the 8 threads was all the time at 80% and back from suspension it
goes up to 98%.

I used also this indications to keep the CPU load (1º thread) down ...
http://sudoremember.blogspot.com.es/2013/05/high-cpu-usage-due-to-kworker.html
…. but then it was not possible to suspend the system.
The click on “suspend” or closing the Lifebook, only results in blockage of
the session but without stop of the system.

[Bug 1458220] [NEW] system keyboard layout not honored

2015-05-23 Thread Richard Stevens
Public bug reported:

I'm on a fresh install of Kubuntu:
Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04

I chose German as installation language, de with nodeadkeys as keyboard
and locale is set to de_DE.UTF-8.

The console uses the correct keyboard, however when logging into sddm,
the keyboard layout is set to US.

SDDM doesn't seem to honour the keyboard configured during installation.

SDDM installed is:
ddm:
  Installiert: 0.11.0-0ubuntu10
  Installationskandidat: 0.11.0-0ubuntu10
  Versionstabelle:
 *** 0.11.0-0ubuntu10 0
500 http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ vivid/universe amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

I believe it's a bug since the keyboard layout at login window after
installing as described above should be the default system one, german
in the above case.

I have tried all sorts of ways (including some ugly hacks) to get this
resolved on a previous installation but didn't find a way. Considering
the many moving parts to get the login manager up and running, I'm aware
this might be filed against the wrong package. It might even be an
installer bug.

Thanks!

[Bug 1458231] [NEW] Using displayport with external monitor flickers laptop screen

2015-05-23 Thread maKA
Public bug reported:

Using a displayport link to connect with my external monitor causes
heavy flickering on my laptop screen. Especially when the external
monitor is being used. There is also a delay of refresh on the external
monitor... I can see my mouse appear multiple times when I move the
cursor.

[Bug 1431753] Re: Nvidia binary driver FTBS due to DKMS layer violation

2015-05-23 Thread KennoVO
Alberto, thank you sooo much, that is great news. Especially since there seems
to be another wave of bitter comments and confusion on lp:1268257 . Two
questions:
- Am I understanding correctly that you'll fix the problem for the 331 driver
AND that we'll have the option of using the 340 or 346 driver with the 3.13
kernel in 14.04 ? (For me personally, _either_ solution would work. Having
newer drivers is always nice, but there might hypothetically be people with
really old hardware who require the old driver.)
- Do you have any idea when either solution will be available to end-users?

[Bug 1424293] Re: BYD trackpad detected as PS/2 mouse

2015-05-23 Thread VJ Patel
Hi Christopher (penalvch),

I ran apport-collect 1417450 but it kept saying that I wasn't the owner
so it could not collect. I'm assuming the number is the ID of the bug,
so i have ran apport-collect 1424293 (the ID of this bug)

Is that all okay? Let me know if there's anything else I can do to help.

[Bug 1453619] Re: udisksd and dbus-daemon consume too much cpu

2015-05-23 Thread Peter Ludwig
I noticed that sometimes I have to umount USB Storage devices by typing
root password. Umount a device mounted by another user - which is
confusing cuz I am the one who mounted it ... (?)

[Bug 1454253] Re: external usb breaks suspend

2015-05-23 Thread Thaddaeus Tintenfisch
You can disable xfce4-power-manager by deactivating its autostart
launcher (Settings Manager Session and Startup Application
Autostart).

However, this bug seems to be triggered by your hardware. Use journalctl
to check if there are any related system log messages.

[Bug 1457356] Re: package mariadb-server-5.5 5.5.41-1ubuntu0.14.04.1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2015-05-23 Thread Otto Kekäläinen
If you in the dialog Really migrate to MariaDB? choose the option
No it will bail out from dpkg and abort the installation. This is by
design - you are not supposed to get MariaDB installed if you choose
No.

This method of aborting has been around in MySQL packaging for a long
time. For example if you had MySQL 5.1 installed and then installed
MySQL 5.0 you would see a similar screen asking for confirmation and if
you selected No then the dpkg process would be aborted.

[Bug 1359803] Re: External mic not being used in combo port

2015-05-23 Thread Denilson Sá
I have the same issue.

Asus X450CA laptop with a single TRRS jack. External headphones work
correctly, but the external microphone does not work at all. Only the
built-in microphone (that hole next to the webcam) is detected. This has
been happening since 13.10 (the first Ubuntu I installed on this laptop,
which was brand-new at that time).

alsamixer shows: Master, Headphone, Speaker, PCM, Mic Boost, Mic Boost,
S/PDIF, Capture, Auto-Mute Mode, Digital.

Interesting that it shows two Mic Boost sliders, but there is no
option to switch to the external microphone. The only recording device
is called Capture.

[Bug 1457697] Re: [Vivid] kernel 3.19.0-17 fails to find HDMI sound output

2015-05-23 Thread fprietog
I have the same problem.

I'm using Ubuntu 15.04 64 bits (Desktop Edition). CPU Intel Core
i7-4790, GPU Intel HD4600. Using latest BIOS and microcode.

There is no HDMI out sound with latest kernel 3.19.0-18-generic. When I
boot with previous kernel (3.19.0-16-generic) the HDMI sound works.

Here is an screenshot of the sound config under 3.19.0-16-generic. It shows the
HDMI device, and it works:
http://rt002nf0.eresmas.net/Temp/FPGLINUX%203.19.0-16-generic_01.jpg

Here is the same screenshot under the newest kernel 3.19.0-18-generic. No HDMI
driver shown:
http://rt002nf0.eresmas.net/Temp/FPGLINUX%203.19.0-18-generic_01.jpg

If I can help in any way, please, don't hesitate to ask.

Thanks and best regards.
