[Bug 1224732] Re: Custom keyboard shortcuts don't work

2015-05-23 Thread Commoner
The solution suggested by gazhai (#52) worked for me, too. I have Ubuntu
14.04.2 Classic. The only problem is tat every time I add a keyboard
shortcut I have to logout and login to get it working. Is there an
application that could do the same thing as logout-login?

[Bug 1413446] Re: Audio broken on 2015 XPS 13 (9343) in I2S mode in Ubuntu 14.10/15.04

2015-05-23 Thread Jan Henke
As far as I followed upstream, work is being done on this matter in the
Linux kernel, not really in Ubuntu. (Since it is not a packaging bug,
but rather a development task)

Current focus seems to be to make sure audio works in HDA mode. I2S mode
is apparently improved in kernel versions 4.0 and 4.1, but it is still
rather new and not as mature as the HDA code. There is definitely effort
in progress on making this work out of the box with the Linux kernel.

For the moment I can just advise to update to the most recent firmware
version (A03 at the time of this writing). This gives you working audio
in HDA mode. I2S mode audio will be enabled when the code for it is
ready in terms of code quality and feature completeness.

[Bug 1382642] Re: Mic not working for ubuntu 14.04 in asus X550LC

2015-05-23 Thread Denilson Sá
I have an Asus X450CA laptop and I had the same issue.

I solved by following these steps:

1. Install "alsa-tools-gui" package.
2. Run hdajackretask.
3. Check ☑ Show unconnected pins.
4. At pin 0x18, check ☑ Override and select Microphone from the list.
5. Click "Apply now" to test if it works.
6. Click "Install boot override" to make it definitive.

In my case, it was pin 0x18. I don't know if the pin is different for
other laptops.

[Bug 1458230] Re: libburn imposing 0.2x BD-R burn (5-6 hours)

2015-05-23 Thread Thomas Schmitt
Hi,

i forgot to ask: How is the read speed with this drive ?
Does it deliver dozens of MB per second ?

Do you get better write speeds with DVD media ?
(A DVD+RW at 4x DVD speed should be 5 times as fast as the
write speed you observe with BD-R.)

Have a nice day :)

[Bug 1458230] Re: libburn imposing 0.2x BD-R burn (5-6 hours)

2015-05-23 Thread Thomas Schmitt
Hi,

libburn obviously tries to tell the drive the desired speed.
But the drive decides to work much slower, despite promising
speeds up to 12x BD with the given BD-R.

A possible reason could be Defect Management which is caused
by the cdrskin option blank=format_if_needed. It checkreads
the write result after writing about half a drive buffer to
the medium.

But the xorriso run was not told to format its BD-R.
Does dvd+rw-mediainfo report it as formatted after the burn?
(I.e not
  READ FORMAT CAPACITIES:
   unformatted: 12219392*2048=25025314816
 but rather
  BD SPARE AREA INFORMATION:
   Spare Area:196608/196608=100.0% free
)

Do you get better speed from growisofs ?
  growisofs -Z /dev/sr0=disc.iso

You could add option
  stream_recording=on
to the runs of cdrskin and xorrecord to surely disable Defect
Management.

Have a nice day :)

Yes, of course, it is reproducible. Here are the steps:
1. Open some applications (Nautilus, Chrome, etc.)
2. Click the system menu in the menu bar and select Lock.
3. Unlock the screen. Those applications disappeared and sometimes we need to
enter password twice.

[Bug 1456656] Re: Lenovo G50-45 Wireless card Qualcomm Atheros Device not Working.

2015-05-23 Thread Subin
Chris,

I have updated the BIOS from the link provided as requested. But,
nothing changed, still WIFI card is not getting detected.

Moreover, by default, Secure Boot was enabled, so only Windows was
loading everytime. So, I went into the BIOS setup and disabled the
Secure Boot. But still, the grub is not showing up and Windows is
booting by default.

So, I had to open the Boot menu manually and choose Ubuntu to bring up
Ubuntu.

After that I found that there is no change to the connectivity. Its
still the same.

The output of the given command is:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

A2CN34WW(V2.02)
02/28/2015

Could you please let me know how to make the grub appear as before the BIOS
update even with the Secure boot disabled ?
Is there any command to make it work ?

Thanks,
Chris

[Bug 1458274] [NEW] usb-creator-gtk doesn't present an error if source .iso is unreadable (permissions)

2015-05-23 Thread Dan Poler
Public bug reported:

On Vivid, usb-creator-gtk 0.2.67ubuntu0.1

In the "Make Startup Disk" window, choose "Other..." and select an image you
cannot read - e.g. not readable by the current user.
The image will not select, but no error will be displayed to the user - it's a
silent failure, you're dropped back to the main window with no info as to why
it didn't work. The user should be presented with at least a "Permission

[Bug 1457697] Re: [Vivid] kernel 3.19.0-17 fails to find HDMI sound output

2015-05-23 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
AntAgna, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page (the release names are
irrelevant for testing, and please do not test the daily folder)
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow
additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the test did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't boot into
the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue to test
the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Where XY and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-05-23 Thread Franz Hsieh
@Ara
1) I haven't tried it on Wily, but I checked the u-s-d source in Wily. Because
ensure_touchpad_active is still exists and does not have any change, I think
this issue can be reproduced.

2) Currently I only have ASUS machine that has touchpad disabled key.

Besides, it there has a second pointer device (usb mouse), this issue
won't happen.

2015-05-23 Thread HaleBopp
solved

it was a LXDE problem , as soon as i recognized this i could get a work
around .

Problem : with the new user(blabla) not plugged in on a physical monitor , and
first running xrdp
there was a .cache folder . but it was completly empty .

Solution : i just copied the "pi" user /home/pi/.cache folder to
/home/blabla/.cache

i did it complete in terminal because i was unsure if the lxde should be not
started. (and getting root in raspbian gui is grr)
now the flickering is gone. and XRDP is working with the blabla user .
i know its not the clean solution but fast , working. if anyone has "the clean
linux" solution. and it ONLY works if u got a working profile /account
desktop which u can copy the files from.

command for solution :

sudo cp -r -v /home/pi/.cache /home/blabla/.cache

[Bug 1449005] Re: trim does not work with Samsung 840 EVO after firmware update (EXT0DB6Q)

2015-05-23 Thread Sven
I don't know who at Samsung wrote that response. They have a bug in
their SSD firmware. Full stop. The issue with Linux probably is, that it
supports a feature that Windows doesn't and thus is the only OS affected
by the broken firmware.

Martin Petersen from the linux-ide mailing list wrote, when he was
sending the patch blacklisting all 800 series SSDs, that they would work
with Samsung to resolve the issue - whatever that means.

[Bug 1456837] Re: USB drive errors with kernel version 3.13.0-35 and above

2015-05-23 Thread Gary Dalmadge
Christopher,

I have completed this as you requested.

Here is the output of the last git bisect command:

git bisect bad
Bisecting: 0 revisions left to test after this (roughly 0 steps)
[d215f919d9f1c348b5df2eb40e867698e8a59e14] scsi: handle flush errors properly

I have also attached the output of the "git bisect log" command.

Please let me know if you need additional information or would like me
to run additional tests.

[Bug 375755] Re: 9.04: xrdp 0.4 + vnc4server results in flashing screen on login

2015-05-23 Thread HaleBopp
i hope i can help to make it reproduceable , i have nearly the same problem
with my raspberry.
With the User "PI" it works fine. with the user "blabla" (mentioned below) it
works partly.

#error described:
-user blabla connects to pi ,
-blabla get the sesman log window and then the prepared desktop (like 2 seconds
white grey stripes)
- when the desktop is fully loaded i see the wastebasket but the launchbar isnt
there
the visual effect is : there is a white place holder where the launchbar is.
which seems to be reloaded every second which result in flickering because the
white place holder reappear every time. after some minutes i get a disconect
which isnt the case with the "pi" user

for reproduktion :)

Raspbian Wheezy
Release date: 2015-05-05
Kernel version: 3.18

Xrdp version 0.5.0-2 ,

the pi is used with remote desktop program(not the windows one) and was
only on a physical display for ssh activation and gui activation (MAYBE
1 time with gui on physical monitor i cant remember) the normal way is
then

-connect via ssh and make the pi rdy for XRDP

-sudo apt-get update
-sudo apt-get upgrade
-sudo apt-get install xrdp
-sudo adduser blabla

here i got the first flickering and thought it was permission stuff so i added
blabla to root with
-sudo visudo

but the error remains.

while writing i thought about to get into the new user - 1 time with
physical monitor and set the launcher . and try xrdp again

hope it helps abit

*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1413008 ***

This bug also affects me. I just upgraded to Ubuntu 15.04 a few days
ago. I created a new btrfs filesystem where I accidentally filled it by
doubling my backup (3TB). I then deleted one of the backups, and tried
to get a directory listing with ls in the directory that had been
cleared. My dmesg trace is:

[Bug 1190990] Re: Xfce4 mess up with icon positions

2015-05-23 Thread Paulo Marcel Coelho Aragão
@Thaddaeus, I restored the icon size to 48, updated xfdesktop4 from your
PPA, and I can happily confirm: the issue is solved ! I tried both
logging out and back in, as well as rebooting the laptop, and the icons
stayed put in their positions.

So no need to workaround the issue anymore by changing the icon size to
40.

Thank you so much !

expire_timeout is set to “0”, the notification should be presented as a
fallback alert box". So Thunar should set a non-0 expire timeout and should not
supply any possible actions.

As I wrote on launchpad, it's not really a bug, rather a design decision from

If you want to play with it, you can still find on launchpad the patch
we applied to exo in 2009 when we tried to use notify-osd
(http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-

Only happens with notify-osd due to design decisions. Using
xfce4-notifyd solves this. This bug was left untouched for 3 years, so
I'm closing it. Feel free to reopen if needed.

[Bug 1440210]

2015-05-23 Thread Maarten Bezemer
A workaround (at least fix the frozen desktop) without restarting,
ending sessions, etc. is to switch to another tty (eg tty1 with CTRL-
ALT-F1) and type:

DISPLAY=:0 kwin_x11 --replace &

When switching back to the desktop, it is seen restarting and everything
is working again.

[Bug 1440210]

2015-05-23 Thread Thomas-luebking
This is rather unrelated - although this bug has become a general "I
perceive a problem" dumpster anyway.

The original report actually sounds a lot like related to bug #340294

The we have some reports which are likely related to the stale lock file bugs
in KConfig & Qt:
https://codereview.qt-project.org/#/c/110346/ and
https://git.reviewboard.kde.org/r/122549/

Then we've complete freezes of the X11 server

Finally there're some "kwin artifacts after" issues - this matches yours and I
bet your right arm that you've an nvidia GPU - the invalidated vertext buffers
will more likely relate to te switch to VT1 than anything else (run "dmesg |
grep NVRM" and check whether it says something about unspported framebuffer
consoles, but this lately was reported regardless)
VLC will likely require 100% cpu because it (or rather the driver) is
performing a busy wait for the next vblank signal (which is not gonna occur)

The most simple resolution of invalidated vertex buffers is to restart the
compositor (press SHIFT+Alt+F12 twice)

[Bug 1267788] Re: double click in list print two time the selected item

2015-05-23 Thread Deevad
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1247137 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1247137

Zenity 3.8 version is also in 14.04 , and so in all Linux Mint 17.x , and all
Elementary O.S.
( Long term support, till 2019 afaik ) ; That's why I post here
thisworkaround for those doing Bash script on this platform and getting stuck
by this bug :

#!/bin/bash
menuchoice=$(zenity --list --column Pet Chien Chat);
menuchoicecleaned=${menuchoice%|*}
echo "$menuchoicecleaned"

This return single
Chien
or
Chat
in every case.

Re: [Bug 1081019] Re: Benchmark for disks always fails on 32 bit systems

2015-05-23 Thread Ivan Baldo
The good news is that the fix has been applied upstream, so it will
trickle down to Debian and then to Ubuntu I guess, maybe in next version
15.10.
Too bad that it took so long just for a one liner patch and a
simple test...
