[Bug 1301623] Re: unity freezes when moving windows among workspaces
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 815996 *** https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/815996 I don't think this is a duplicate. The other bug appears to be about switching workspaces THEMSELVES, while this is moving WINDOWS between them by dragging. Switching workspaces has never caused me any problems by itself. Sometimes when I (on the latest Ubuntu 15.10) drag windows across my workspace switcher (especially when I drop and drag the window multiple times), Unity freezes, and I can't do anything. However, closing my laptop lid so it goes to sleep and then opening it does seem to fix this - it goes to the lock screen, then returns to normal when I unlock it. However, this is annoying. This is really annoying because now, whenever I drag windows across workspaces, I feel like I have to be careful to have it NOT freeze. If a window ends part across two workspaces, I kinda feel like I have to go to the right workspace and fix it there so it won't freeze, rather than just doing it in the switcher. Please, Canonical, get your act together - I have been becoming increasingly displeased with Ubuntu. I shouldn't have to monkey around with dconf just to remove the workspace switcher icon from my dock. I always use hotcorners to switch workspaces, as I configured the bottom left corner to activate the workspace switcher. While I understand hotcorners not being in the settings by default (because LOL they are buggy, and only seem to work one in every two reboots without disabling them and re-enabling them - except for some reason, across two computers, they magically seem to start working correctly after a while), I know for a fact that some people never use the icon to switch workspaces and instead use keyboard shortcuts. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1301623 Title: unity freezes when moving windows among workspaces To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/unity/+bug/1301623/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1507255] Re: Garbled graphics in Wily with Intel GMA4500 chip
This also impacts me. Screen becomes garbled quicker if Firefox is running. Screen takes a bit longer to become garbled if only Thunderbird is running. I tried Cory's fix above, and it hasn't garbled the screen in about 45 minutes minutes with Firefox, Thunderbird, and other graphical apps running simultaneously. On my system the file /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf didn't exist, so I created it with the contents that Cory provided. >From uname -a: Linux gandalf 4.2.0-16-generic #19-Ubuntu SMP Thu Oct 8 14:46:51 UTC 2015 i686 i686 i686 GNU/Linux >From lspci: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 02) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: ASUSTeK Computer Inc. [Bug 1512039] [NEW] Version 3.16.3 under Lubuntu 15.10 "Thumbnail Cache" problem.
Public bug reported: This issue is new to me. I have used Nemo for a while now, and never encountered this issue. Very often, when I cut-and-paste multiple photos from one tab to another, I will get a yellow-bar error message: "A problem has been detected with your thumbnail cache. Fixing it will require administrative privileges. [Fix Now] [Dismiss]" (see first screenshot) I do not know what is meant by a problem with my thumbnail cache - what kind of problem? Why would fixing it require administrative privileges? I note that, unlike with terminal sudo usage, I must re-enter my password every time this happens, even if the previous problem was just seconds before (sudo in terminals lasts 15 minutes or so, doesn't it? - before one needs to re-enter a password?) Also for some reason, not all photos that are being transferred between tabs retain their selectedness. [Bug 1512026] Re: package initramfs-tools 0.120ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. The version of update-initramfs that you likely have installed is unable to work on a persistent usb stick. You can resolve this issue by upgrading the version of casper on your system. This can be done via the commands: sudo apt-get update; sudo apt-get install casper Then performing the software update or installation that you were originally trying. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that there was an error on your system when trying to install a particular package. [Bug 1512012] Re: Kyocera Mita FS-1900 prints garbage
For the USB issues of te different USB ports of your docking station behaving differently, open a bug on the Linux kernel (Ubuntu package "linux"). Your printing problem can be a bug in the printer's PostScript interpreter, so please follow the instructions of section "PostScript (PDF) printer chokes on the PostScript (PDF) coming from Ubuntu" on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingPrintingProblems. As a workaround you can always try PPDs/drivers for PCL 6/XL or PCL 5e/c (see the "Generic" printers if you do not find anything appropriate in your printer's entry). [Bug 1511512] Re: Xorg crashes when opening new windows with Intel video card
Phil Boutros, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. However, your crash report is manually attached. Please follow these instructions to have apport report a new bug about your crash that can be dealt with by the automatic retracer. First, execute at a terminal: cd /var/crash && sudo rm * ; sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get -y dist-upgrade && sudo service apport start force_start=1 If you are running the Ubuntu Stable Release you might need to enable apport in /etc/default/apport and restart. Now reproduce the crash, then open a terminal, navigate to your /var/crash directory and file your report with: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash where _my_crash_report.crash is the crash you would like to report. By default, this sends the crash to the Ubuntu Error Tracker infrastructure, which is different than Launchpad. For more on this, please see https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ErrorTracker . However, if after doing this you would still like to have a crash report posted to Launchpad, for example to ease triage and add others to your report, one would need to open the following file via a terminal: sudo nano /etc/apport/crashdb.conf and comment out the line: 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], by changing it to: # 'problem_types': ['Bug', 'Package'], Save, close, and file the crash report via: sudo ubuntu-bug /var/crash/_my_crash_report.crash If you do open this report, please feel free to subscribe me to it. However, I'm closing this report since the process outlined above will deal with this issue more efficiently. Also, please do not attach your crash report manually to this report and reopen it. [Bug 1512016] Re: package linux-image-3.19.0-31-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
SOLVED: OK, I think I have fixed it. I am running Lubuntu 15.04. My notebook is a Pentium M and I need to have the pae flag added to the cpuinfo file manually. I had done this prior to upgrade to 15.04 but it seems to have gotten removed after that. In Terminal, I first ran the following to check if the PAE flag was still in the cpuinfo file: sudo grep flags /proc/cpuinfo In the long string of output, there was no *pae* So, I followed the instructions for “Upgrading” at this webpage: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE/PentiumM These instructions manually add the pae to the cpuinfo file. Then I ran an install fix: sudo apt-get install -f Then, closed Terminal and went into the software updater program, to check for any needed updates. Things updated correctly and reboot produced no more errors. Again, refer to this webpage under *Upgrading* for the Terminal commands needed: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE/PentiumM -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1512016 Title: package linux-image-3.19.0-31-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1512016/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
