[Bug 1514827] Re: Xorg fails to start after upgrade 15.04 -> 15.10

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
CoolEsza, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

As per http://us.acer.com/ac/en/US/content/drivers an update to your
computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (1.38). If you update to
this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it
change anything?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't
have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New.
Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver

Charles, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Given the present logs don't divulge a ton of detail regarding the
touchpad for either your report or LP#1514066, let us mark it a
duplicate for now. If it turns out they are in fact different (ex.
different hardware, same hardware different revision number, etc.) we
can hive this report off and pursue it separately.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1516257] [NEW] [DSA 3208-2] freexl regression update

2015-11-14 Thread Bas Couwenberg
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

As reported in #1437087, this fix for that issue caused a regression as
discussed on the debian-gis list:

 https://lists.debian.org/debian-gis/2015/11/msg00013.html

In Debian this has been fixed for jessie in freexl (1.0.0g-1+deb8u3) and
wheezy in freexl (1.0.0b-1+deb7u3) with [DSA 3208-2] freexl regression
update (https://lists.debian.org/debian-security-
announce/2015/msg00302.html).

Ubuntu needs the same regression fix for trusty & vivid.

I've prepared updates for the Ubuntu packages in git:

 http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-grass/freexl.git/?h=ubuntu/trusty
 http://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/pkg-grass/freexl.git/?h=ubuntu/vivid

Besides the fix for the regression introduced by afl-
vulnerabilitities.patch, they also contain 32bit-multiplication-
overflow.patch that was included in freexl (1.0.0g-1+deb8u2) for jessie-
security and freexl (1.0.0b-1+deb7u2) for wheezy-security. 32bit-
multiplication-overflow.patch was backported from FreeXL 1.0.2 and
already included in wily & xenial.

** Affects: freexl (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Information type changed from Private Security to Public Security

[Bug 1513648] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0)

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Patrik Jansson, the next step is to fully reverse commit bisect from
kernel 4.2 to 4.3 in order to identify the last bad commit, followed
immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been identified,
then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into your
release. Could you please do this following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection#How_do_I_reverse_bisect_the_upstream_kernel.3F
?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1516251] Re: RTL8723BE Wifi driver unstable

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Alan Thompson, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu
better.

As per http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-15-ac100
-notebook-pc-series/8499326/model/8903280#Z7_3054ICK0K8UDA0AQC11TA930O2
an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available
(F.1A). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it address the issue?

If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the
output of the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette
.

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so
posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful.

Also, you don't have to create a new bug report.

Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the
information above is provided, then please mark this report Status
Confirmed. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1392647] Re: smbstatus reports dead connection as active

2015-11-14 Thread pierrot
Here is some additional information that I could gather over this
problem:

- smbstatus from samba 4.3.1 also shows the Protocol version from
connected clients:

root@vdebian:~# smbstatus -v
using configfile = /usr/local/samba/etc/smb.conf

Samba version 4.3.1
PID Username Group MachineProtocol Version
--
733 client1 clients 192.168.1.21
(ipv4:192.168.1.21:57591) Unknown (0x0311)
Opened /usr/local/samba/var/lock/connections.tdb
...

Unless I force Win10 to use SMBv1 it talks to samba with SMBv3 and in this case
smbstatus reports "Unknown (0x0311)". Otherwise (with SMBv1, an XP- or
Linux-client) it shows a correct Version like "NT1".
Also see https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11472

- When using the -v option with smbstatus, it prints the line "Opened
/usr/local/samba/var/lock/connections.tdb". When I browse this directory and
look for connections.tdb, the file simply does not exist.

- The problems as shown above only occur when a Windows-client connects via
SMBv2/3 (e.g. Win7/8/10) to Samba 4.1.x (maybe also 4.0.x, I haven't testet
yet).

So in my layman's terms I would explain it like this: on the one hand
it's the clients fault when it doesn't tell to the server to release
locked files. Maybe SMBv2/3 uses some faulty functionality that is
completely ignored by Samba 3.x and therefore causes no issue - other
than Samba 4.x. On the other hand the server should be able to detect
dead connections and close them after a while since there is a chance
that the client lost the connection unexpectedly or because of external
reasons.

[Bug 1513648] Re: [drm:intel_pipe_config_compare [i915]] *ERROR* mismatch in ips_enabled (expected 1, found 0)

2015-11-14 Thread Patrik Jansson
I have now downloaded and installed kernel 4.3.0 as requested and this
seems to have fixed the problem.

I have added the corresponding tags but I'm not sure about the
"spelling" of the version numbers. Another example in the standard text
would be helpful (there was no match on the pattern "X.Y-rcZ" but rather
something like "X.Y.Z-N[-generic]_X.Y.Z-N.D"!)

If some additional input (or action) would be useful, just ask.

Thanks for your help,
  Patrik

[Bug 1515995] Re: Screen

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
** Description changed:

- I am trying out Kubuntu at the moment and I have noticed that when watching
videos they flicker. I have tried the different options in the 'Compositor
Settings for Desktop Effects' Tearing Prevention and none seem to make a
difference other than that if I put it on automatic, the top half of the screen
flickers, and with 'full screen repaints' the whole screen flickers. I have
tried the official Nvidia driver (352), the one from software centre and the
default one - all make the video flicker in full screen. I had the same problem
while using Linux Mint Mate, but not while using the Cinnamon Desktop, I also
don't remember the problem occurring while using Ubuntu Unity Desktop.
- I am fairly new to Linux so I don't know too much about how to go about
finding out the problem.

[Bug 1514505] Re: Kernel Oops - unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference; RIP is at xpad_probe+0x33d/0x9d0

2015-11-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Jonathan, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.13 to
3.19 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited
analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1516249] [NEW] file:/ URLs not supported

2015-11-14 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

file:/ URLs are not suported (... instead it passes it on to google when
entered into URL bar, or raises a "network error" when followed from a
page)

Being able to browser local html pages would be handy to work around bug
#1516220 (lack of form completion or password manager), because that way
could could store pre-filled forms somewhere on your home directory.

Well it is still possible to pull of this workaround, but it requires
installing nginx (... and configuring it correctly to prevent people on
the same Wifi from snarfing your password-containing templates...)

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/public_html$ lsb_release -rd

[Bug 1512120]

2015-11-14 Thread Alistair Buxton
On #12253 (which is probably a dupe) someone bisected it down to this
glib commit:

https://git.gnome.org/browse/glib/commit/?id=779c809a3d07fca6c1da4f87d4ce6cf7f2d95608

This removes a 1 second delay on inotify events, quite possibly
triggering race conditions in Thunar.

This is probably also causing #12260

I compiled Thunar (1.6.10git-6407141) with clang and -fsanitize=thread

likes to report a lot of what I assume are false positives; I've left
those out.)

issue) could you please test the latest upstream kernel available from
the very top line at the top of the page from http://kernel.ubuntu.com
/~kernel-ppa/mainline/?C=N;O=D (the release names are irrelevant for
testing, and please do not test the daily folder)? Install instructions
are available at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds . This
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue.

If the latest kernel did not allow you to test to the issue (ex. you couldn't
boot into the OS) please make a comment in your report about this, and continue
to test the next most recent kernel version until you can test to the issue.
Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version
specifically you tested. If this issue is fixed in the mainline kernel, please
add the following tags by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil
icon, next to the word Tags, located at the bottom of the report description:

Where X, Y, and Z are numbers corresponding to the kernel version.

If the mainline kernel does not fix the issue, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-X.Y-rcZ

Please note, an error to install the kernel does not fit the criteria of
kernel-bug-exists-upstream.

True, no focus handling is performed on any component, and this belongs
to the focus handling, as the expansion, navigation requires the
component to be focused.

Beside, this component requires heavy redesign.

2015-11-14 Thread ToZ
This patch fixes the file rename crash on my system as well (thunar 1.6

intermittent crash when drag and dropping files/folders
(https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=11983 &
https://bugzilla.xfce.org/show_bug.cgi?id=12283).

Test briefly with both "Thunar --deamon" running and not. Will continue
testing.

[Bug 1514856] Re: Receiving "Ambiguous shortcut" even when action is not in use

2015-11-14 Thread Zsombor Egri
The contextual actions is in work in progress. Right now, every action
is active, no matter if the component it is attached to is visible or
not. This means you will have several shortcuts set, as page
stacks/adaptive page layouts do not disable them while in background.
The shortcut system therefore cannot decide which shortcut is active...

I am not sure we can fix this for OTA9.

[Bug 1504315] Re: right hand click doubles down on prompts (which autoappear from selected text)

2015-11-14 Thread Zsombor Egri
The right click has been there for quite some time, before we started
the race for convergence.

There is no "official" way to detect whether we have mouse attached, the
QInpiutDeviceInfo is about to come. Unity8 has ported something from the
upstream code, but we are waiting till upstream ports that back to Qt
5.4. I won't happen, we will have to move some code to the UITK and
provide temporary API for that.

Text input context menu positioning has been improved, I'd suggest you
to check it once more and revisit the bug. Thanks!

[Bug 1516248] [NEW] Bookmarklets do not work

2015-11-14 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

In many of today's browser, it is possible to bookmark a javascript: URL
. When clicking on such a bookmark, the javascript code snippet is
executed within the context of the currently shown page.

Attempting to do this in the Ubuntu Phone web browser pops up a new tab
with an about:blank page...

Bookmarklets would be handy to work around other deficiencies in the
browser (such as lack of form autocompletion or password manager, bug
#1516220): just have some javascript bookmark that fills in the required
fields (I know, there are security implications, but for unimportant
social networking sites this would be ok)

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/public_html$ lsb_release -rd

[Bug 1516246] [NEW] There is no way to copy-paste from text of a web page

2015-11-14 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/public_html$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 15.04
Release:15.04
phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/public_html$ apt-cache policy webbrowser-app
webbrowser-app:
  Installed: 0.23+15.04.20151103-0ubuntu1
  Candidate: 0.23+15.04.20151103-0ubuntu1
  Version table:
 *** 0.23+15.04.20151103-0ubuntu1 0
   1001
http://ppa.launchpad.net/ci-train-ppa-service/stable-snapshot/ubuntu/

 0.23+15.04.20150416-0ubuntu1 0
500 http://ports.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-ports/ vivid/main armhf Packages

What I expected to happen:
Long tapping in the text of a web page should make 2 cursor widget pop up,
with which I can select a region to be copy-pasted (just as happens in the
terminal app, or in the URL bar for that matter)

What happened instead:
Long tapping does nothing. There seems to be no other way to select text from
the body of a web page either.

[Bug 1516245] [NEW] Full URL of page not shown unless user clicks on it

2015-11-14 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

By default, the browser only shows the host name of the page. However,
the full URL is shown when clicking on it.

There's really no reason to do this, so why not show the entire URL all
the time (or at least as much of it as fits in the URL bar)

[Bug 1516243] [NEW] Neither CSS pixel counts nor physical dimension are honored

2015-11-14 Thread AlainKnaff
Public bug reported:

The browser respects neither pixels nor physical (cm) sizes.

Specifying a rectangle with width: 558px takes up the whole width of the
screen in portrait whereas 559px in landscape mode, even though
according to spec of the BQ Aquaris E5 (on which I tried this), the
resolution should be 720 x 1280 (and not 558x559 !)

Specyifying a rectangle with width: 5cm in CSS shows as approx 2.2cm in
portrait mode and 3.7 cm in landscape mode.

It is my understanding that in a browser, either the pixel count matches
or the physical dimension. In the present case, none of them match.

In particular, in the present case, the user-visible effect is that on
many web pages, the fonts are unreadably small when viewed in portrait
mode...

phablet@ubuntu-phablet:~/public_html$ lsb_release -rd
Description:Ubuntu 15.04

What I expect to happen:
Either the CSS pixel count or the physical dimensions (cm, inches) specified
in CSS should be honored
Scale should not change by turning the phone

What happened instead:
Neither CSS pixel count nor physical dimensions are honored
Text becomes smaller when viewing in portrait

Ahm, Albert, I have worst news for you: design said we have to set the

calculations if we apply that :(

Perhaps we expose the image size so you can decide whether you want to
bind to that or not.
