2016-03-02 Thread Alexander Vinbæk Strand
The screenshot is from Ubiquity when I installed Ubuntu GNOME on vmware
and GRUB fails to install.

I tried to install GRUB in terminal with live iso and then I got this
/cow error.

[Bug 1552592] [NEW] KVM/QEMU live migration fails with Ubuntu wily kernel 4.2.0-30.35

2016-03-02 Thread Thomas Lamprecht
Public bug reported:

commit 3f11933efc9ef55ecb2ac7e6d626e8d05a99a4b1 - "KVM: x86: expose
MSR_TSC_AUX to userspace" from ubuntu-wily master git tree breaks
KVM/QEMU live migration of host with a graphical user interface.

== Reproduction ==

Install kernel with 3f11933efc9ef55ecb2ac7e6d626e8d05a99a4b1 included
(Ubuntu-4.2.0-30.35)
Start VM with GUI
Start migration (no post copy, same migration as you'd in qemu 2.4)
When migration has finished and you switch the VNC over to the migration target
the VM running but frozen showing the last frame buffer, its also not ping-able
(so you ssh session is dead if you used that)

This is independent of (x86_64) Hardware and Guest OS used and also the
QEMU cpu type (I used mainly kvm64).

== Backport Solution ==

After a reverse bisect on the working 4.4 xenial kernel (where it's
working with the patch from above) I found the missing part.

While those two KVM patches listed above were backported/added another on was
not, namely:
81b1b9ca6d5ca5f3ce91c0095402def657cf5db3 (from upstream linus)
KVM: VMX: Fix host initiated access to guest MSR_TSC_AUX
https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=81b1b9ca6d5ca5f3ce91c0095402def657cf5db3

As there was a API change I made the rather trivial backport to the 4.2
kernel and tested it successfully.

The backported patch is attached to this report.

Some further information and earlier posts from myself about this issue by can
be found here:

[Bug 1552584] [NEW] Cannot log in after fglrx update (15.201-0ubuntu0.14.04.1)

2016-03-02 Thread Otus
Public bug reported:

After updating to the newest version of the fglrx package
(15.201-0ubuntu0.14.04.1) I can no longer log in after a reboot. When I
type a password it takes a couple of seconds to throw me back into the
log in screen. Previous versions worked fine.

Removing fglrx to switch to the free drivers solved any log in problems.
Reinstalling fglrx introduced them again.

I haven't debugged beyond that, but I can in the next few days if given
instructions.

Sure, new packages are always fairly risk free. If an archive admin is
happy to review it (and syncs are easy enough to review) then you have
an FFe.

I notice it isn't building on most archs in Debian.

2016-03-02 Thread Paul Nijjar
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1546459 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1546459

I am pretty sure this is a duplicate of #1546459 . Downloading a new
netinstall from trusty-updates (not trusty) seems to fix the problem. In
particular I used the following:

open http://ca.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/dists/trusty-updates/main
/installer-amd64/current/images/netboot/ubuntu-installer/

I had not realized that there was a new version of the installer because
I was looking in the wrong directory.

[Bug 1546565] Re: Ownership/Permissions of vhost_user sockets for openvswitch-dpdk make them unusable by libvirt/qemu/kvm

2016-03-02 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Discussion slowed down and patch series grew - still not committed.
=> https://www.mail-archive.com/dev@openvswitch.org/msg57821.html

The way the discussion went this included more and more of the change from
commandline to ovsdb config for dpdk.
That makes it uncertain if it will get into branch 2.5

[Bug 1552572] [NEW] Wrong dbus service name

2016-03-02 Thread Robert Ma
Public bug reported:

According to various dbus spec/docs [1][2], the "Name=" property in the
dbus service description file should be the FQDN of the app. i.e., in
usr/share/dbus-1/services/us.kirkland.terminals.byobu.service , it
should look like:

Name=us.kirkland.terminals.byobu

The current "Name=byobu" will cause dbus fail to find the service when
launching via byobu.desktop. On an Archlinux running dbus 1.10.6 and
GNOME 3.18.3, the following error message could be seen in syslog when
launching the current byobu.desktop (or when running the "Exec" command
of the desktop file directly):

byobu.desktop: Error creating terminal: The name
us.kirkland.terminals.byobu was not provided by any .service files

The issue would be fixed once the Name is changed to the FQDN. You may
or may not see the error above in Ubuntu right now because of the
different versions of various components, but anyway, using the FQDN is
the correct, documented way and should not cause regression.

[Bug 1521618] Re: wrong subnet in DHCP answer when multiple networks are present

2016-03-02 Thread Blake Rouse
Okay so what needs to be done to fix this issue is to order the subnets
in the generated configuration where the ones without gateways come
first and the ones with gateways follow. This causes isc-dhcp to work
correctly. This might be an issue with shared-network because the order
of the subnets can only go so far before the order of shared-network
breaks it. That is to say if there are 2 shared networks each with 2
subnets and one of each have a gateway defined then one of the 4 will
have an issue as the order in that case cannot be enforced.

Note for next-server:
You also need to set next-server on each subnet to make sure that it can
communicate back to the rack controller on that subnet. If not the PXE client
will select the IP from where it recieved the DHCP response which can be a
different subnet.

I think it might be best to say you can only provide DHCP to subnets
that a rack controller has an IP address in. Without it the machines
will fail to PXE boot. Or we don't enforce it which is legal and might
be a network configuration that the administrator wants, but might be
surprising to other users of MAAS.

[Bug 1552371] Re: Bluetooth connection turns on the device

2016-03-02 Thread Simon Fels
For a mouse and a keyboard this for sure intended. Both act as input
device like the power key and therefore can activate the device. For
example when I have the tablet or the phone working as a converged
device I as a user want the device to go to sleep when I wake up but be
back when I active either one of those input devices (power-button,
mouse or keyboard).

That the device wakes up from a deep-sleep is something we can't prevent
and really shouldn't. If I turn on my paired headset I expect it to be
usable no matter what state the other device is in. So connection
establishment is fine here.

What we should fix is the use of the proximity sensor or other sensors
to find out if the device is in a state where a turned on display is
intended (like it being in your pocket or somewhere else).

[Bug 1552551] Re: Dell CERC Adapter hangs temporarily until reset. REGRESSION

2016-03-02 Thread Daniel A. Gauthier
I forgot to add that although this is booted from the PXE at this time, I have
previously installed and updated the 15.10.
I have tested both 32 and 64 bit versions with identical results, the server
now has exactly 4G RAM (4x1GBxREGECC).
14.04LTS is currently installed as 2nd OS on HD, but it has a PCI NVIDIA card
so the video doesn't work right (missing icons/menus/text in lists when moused
over). I'm hoping the 16.04LTS will solve both issues simultaneously.
Both the 32 and 64 bit versions of 14.04LTS and earlier work OK.

The user is trying to use this server as a desktop workstation, so the onboard
video isn't good enough, which is why it has the PCI card, it used to have 2
PCI video cards when he required DVI output because the BIOS won't recognize
most cards, so no video until OS was booted. I have tried removing the PCI
wireless also, which is the last remaining other card.
I do not specifically remember trying the drives with the onboard video only,
but since it didn't matter if the interrupt was tied to the same line or not
(tried in 2 different slots), I doubt that would make a difference.

Dan

[Bug 1551283] Re: "Region & Language" settings should allow you to set keyboard input method system

2016-03-02 Thread Tim
we seed language-selector-common, since that provides the list of
packages that make up language packs (when installing from gnome-
control-center). im-config is on our images, seems like ibus pulls that
one in.

I wonder should be just switch to ibus by default? I am not really up to
date with the whole ibus vs fcitx for CJK statuses, but I do wonder how
broken is fcitx under gnome-shell, i.e. does layout switching even work
etc? or is it just the xim mode being set incorrectly causing the
issues?

[Bug 1552551] [NEW] Dell CERC Adapter hangs temporarily until reset. REGRESSION

2016-03-02 Thread Daniel A. Gauthier
Public bug reported:

The HD CERC SATA 1.5 RAID controller (PCI-64 slot) hangs regularly for 10-60
seconds until reset.
The CERC card firmware is the newest I can find reference to: 4.1-0 [bld 7419].
The Dell Poweredge 1800 has newest BIOS (A07).
All hardware has been tested thoroughly OK except possibly the APIC component
(Serverset Northbridge?).
The 14.04LTS with all updates (or not) works fine with a perfectly consistent
throughput of 77MB/s (slowest HD=66MB/s), RAID5.
15.10 has the hangs of 10-60 seconds, AND with newest updates as of 26-FEB-2016.
I do not have a 14.10 or 15.04 to test that I can get to boot on this system.
I have changed PCI interrupts around and moved card slots to minimize sharing
and removed cards - repeatedly.
(It may not be possible to disable enough devices to completely avoid interrupt
sharing).
All hard drives and cables have been thoroughly tested, but the drives are
mixed: 1 of 66MB/s, 1 of 125 MB/s, and 3 of 100MB/s.
The drives not only work perfectly in 14.04LTS, but all Windows versions and
DOS/BIOS-INT 19 as well (0x13).
I believe I tried in Ubuntu 9.10 as well, but am only 85% certain. If I did,
it worked fine.
I have tried all combinations of card RAID options Read ahead, Write cache, and
other BIOS options.
Relevant dmesg lines (these were consecutive):

[ 1046.808027] aacraid: Host adapter abort request (4,0,0,0)
[ 1046.808123] aacraid: Host adapter reset request. SCSI hang ?
[ 1297.828038] aacraid: Host adapter abort request (4,0,0,0)
[ 1297.828168] aacraid: Host adapter reset request. SCSI hang ?

I run a repair shop, so I may not have access to the server for very
long. It's getting Windows reinstalled after RAM went bad and was
replaced (and again, thoroughly tested through CPU and DMA channels
(though not as through DMA)).

[Bug 1422471] Re: Customized Global Shortcut for Activate Application Launcher Widget won't be permanent.

2016-03-02 Thread Christian Sørensen
I can confirm this annoying bug. Especially it is a big issue for me
that I have to deactivate the Shift+Ctrl+C shortcut for "Activate Icon
Widget" that conflict with the default settings to Copy selected text in
Konsole.

Is there an easy workaround besides making the
~/.config/kglobalshortcutsrc read only?

[Bug 1552417] Re: [X1100] Flickering after resume from RAM

2016-03-02 Thread Tommy Trussell
I believe I can do this, however it will take quite a bit more
preparation and effort (because of the radeon Xpress 1100 bug I cannot
use the display on this laptop after any successful resume from suspend)
I am also testing from a live image with no persistent storage, so I
will need to do something different, so I will probably back up the
laptop's data, wipe the Trusty HWE kernel installation on it, install
Xenial, install openssh-server so I can ssh into it, etc. etc..

Before I get started, however I want to confirm my understanding of the
instructions linked above --

1) I need to be using an upstream kernel, not the daily xenial kernel in
the daily .iso

2) I need to log SIX resume trace cycles (steps 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10)
and attach each to the bug report? Or do I need to log EIGHTEEN resume
trace cycles (a set of six resume trace cycles for each of the three
methods of invoking suspend)?

3) The "resume trace" that gets attached for each of the cycles is the
dmesg > dmesg.txt file. Or is there a different trace file you need?

Uploading, with one minor adjustment - the build-dependency on phpunit does
not need to be versioned. The xenial build will always use the most recent
version of the package in the archive, and build-dependencies should not be
versioned to work around bugs in older versions of the package.

The correct package relationship to work around the incompatibility between
older phpunit package and newer php-cli is for php-cli to declare a Breaks:
on older versions of phpunit. But this is not strictly required.

[Bug 1551897] Re: Excessive CPU utilization

I ran pcscd as you suggested, capturing output. Made sure the smart card
was working by using my SSH key. I was then able to reproduce the 100%
cpu condition by plugging in my Logitech USB webcam.

Attached the output, but I redacted the hex dumps before posting here
because I'm not sure if they contain sensitive information. Let me know
if you need the original.

It is intentional, as the bq-aquaris channel includes things like the

My BT keyboard, mouse, and headset all work so it's something to do with
the HFP changes that came with bluez5 I have to assume, since before the
switch I could pair with the car just fine.

[Bug 722950] Re: ctrl-x does not work in grub-efi

2016-03-02 Thread Dan Mick
This is fixed in the upstream by commit
9e5f70174ec960a0077f20bb74cb9f4da9b57e7b (and a warning removed by
5fcde03bf1e8cf74c186bcef6d705734f2d002c5). Grub also just recently
tagged grub-2.02-beta3 with many more fixes. I think this one is major
enough that, if the risk of a full transition to beta3 is considered
high until more testing is done, then the above two commits should be
pulled in as a patch.

This is a complete disabler for those trying to boot EFI over serial-
redirected console, as it's likely F10 doesn't work, and neither does
^X.

[Bug 1500581] Re: open-vm-tools-dkms fails to build on kernel 4.2 (Wily Werewolf) [error: implicit declaration of function ‘nd_set_link’]

2016-03-02 Thread Stanislaw Pitucha
For anyone still waiting:
If you're ok with doing a little bit of editing on the patch files,
open-vm-tools 10.0.5 from github works fine on 15.10 - including hgfs and
copy/paste sharing. (although I just did it an hour ago, so may not spotted
other issues)
Just make sure you apply all relevant patches from the 9.10.xx version.

[Bug 1552500] Re: No properties installed in /etc/java-8-openjdk/

2016-03-02 Thread Seth Arnold
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have unmarked it as a security
issue since this bug does not show evidence of allowing attackers to
cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss of data/privacy.
Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

[Bug 1552500] Re: No properties installed in /etc/java-8-openjdk/

2016-03-02 Thread Seth Arnold
Hello,

dpkg tracks modifications that you make to configuration files. It's
complicated.

But the end result is that you can get these files back by simply
purging the packages and then installing them again:

apt-get purge openjdk-8-jre-headless openjdk-8-jdk
apt-get install openjdk-8-jre-headless openjdk-8-jdk

Thanks

[Bug 1551415] Re: systemctl stop networking hang / timeout

2016-03-02 Thread Doug McMahon
Have no idea if related to here but just recently on plain old Ubuntu Desktop
installs of 16.04 restarts have slowed done considerably.
For me about 4-5 times slower, actual numbers are 2-3 sec. normally, now 10-15
secs. Others seemed affected with different numbers.
If I disconnect from Network, ( ethernet) prior to a restart then expected 2-3
sec. returns

[Bug 1540194] Re: OpenGL stutter and freeze when rotation = Counterclockwise

2016-03-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Me, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better.

Could you please run the following command once from a terminal by ensuring you
have the package xdiagnose installed, and that you click the Yes button for
attaching additional debugging information:
apport-collect -p mesa 1540194

When reporting xorg related bugs in the future, please do so via the
above method. You can learn more about this functionality at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/ReportingBugs.

[Bug 1494402] Re: WebKitWebProcess WebKitGtk+ 2.4.8 uses memory without end when visiting some LinkedIn URL

2016-03-02 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Andreas Gomez, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and
trying to help make Ubuntu better. However, the GNOME3 PPA is not a
software package provided by the official Ubuntu repositories. Because
of this the Ubuntu project can not support or fix your particular bug.
Also, as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Releases , Ubuntu 14.10 is EOL as
of July 23, 2015.

If this is reproducible in a supported release, please report this bug
to the provider of the software package. Thanks!

If you are interested in learning more about software repositories and
Ubuntu, check https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories.
