[Bug 1559407] [NEW] Ability to securely erase the free space of SSD's as much as possible

2016-03-18 Thread Sworddragon
Public bug reported:

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 dev with secure-delete 3.1-6ubuntu1 and because
of the techniques used by SSD's like wear leveling and reserve blocks it
is very difficult to reliably delete the remaining free disk space
without deleting the existing data. But secure-delete could try various
things (potentially configurable) to lower this issue as much as
possible:

- For example it could try to detect the amount of reserve blocks/make a
pessimistic assumption/lets the user control the amount and calculate how much
write cycles would be needed to go relative sure that all free blocks including
reserve blocks are deleted.
- Alternatively/additionally dependent on what features the SSD is capable of
(like temporary disabling of the wear leveling) they could be used more or less
to the advantage.

** Affects: secure-delete (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1424581] Re: indicator-datetime-service crashed with SIGSEGV in _int_malloc()

2016-03-18 Thread Charles Kerr
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We are sorry that we do not always have the capacity to look at all
reported bugs in a timely manner. There have been many changes in Ubuntu since
that time you reported the bug and your problem may have been fixed with some
of the updates. It would help us a lot if you could test it on a currently
supported Ubuntu version. When you test it and it is still an issue, kindly
upload the updated logs by running only once:
apport-collect

and any other logs that are relevant for this particular issue.

[Bug 1048430] Re: "dnsmasq not available on the bus"

2016-03-18 Thread gberche
I had a similar issue after upgrading from 15.04 to 15.10 yesterday

I was loosing DNS resolution ramdomly few minutes after VM start

Mar 18 10:27:17 guillaume-box NetworkManager[885]: DNS: starting
dnsmasq...
Mar 18 10:27:17 guillaume-box NetworkManager[885]: dnsmasq not
available on the bus, can't update servers.
Mar 18 10:27:17 guillaume-box NetworkManager[885]: [1458293237.010557]
[dns-manager/nm-dns-dnsmasq.c:387] update(): dnsmasq owner not found on bus:
Could not get owner of name 'org.freedesktop.NetworkManager.dnsmasq': no such
name
Mar 18 10:27:17 guillaume-box NetworkManager[885]: DNS: plugin dnsmasq
update failed
Mar 18 10:27:17 guillaume-box NetworkManager[885]: Writing DNS
information to /sbin/resolvconf
[...]
Mar 18 10:27:17 guillaume-box dnsmasq[965]: DBus support enabled: connected to
system bus
Mar 18 10:27:17 guillaume-box dnsmasq[965]: warning: no upstream servers
configured

I was observing, dnsmaq process indeed running but not consistently
resolving name requests. I was observing empty dnsmasq conf files:

guillaume@guillaume-box:/etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d$ ls -al
total 8
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 avril 17 2015 .
drwxr-xr-x 7 root root 4096 mars 17 23:11 ..
guillaume@guillaume-box:/etc/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.d$ ls -al
/var/run/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 0 mars 18 10:27 /var/run/NetworkManager/dnsmasq.conf

Whereas the network manager was properly displaying the DHCP provided
DNS servers in the its UI.

Trying to turn off and on network in the network manager did not solve
the issue.

I ended up turning off dnsmasq by eding /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf
and comment out the following line from
dns=dnsmasq (as suggested into
http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-disable-dnsmasq-in-ubuntu-12-04precise.html)

This seems to have worked around the issue. I understand the limitation
of the workaround (disabling dnsmasq) is that I don't have anymore a
local DNS cache, and only the 1st respondind DNS server is queried for
address resolution.

I ran into a reported bug (sorry I lost its reference) that claimed this
to be a distribution upgrade problem, and was suggesting to uninstall
dsnmaq and reinstall it. I haven't tried yet.

Hope this helps narrowing this nasty bug which was quite time consuming
to me.

[Bug 1558775] Re: trying to update and recieved error message

2016-03-18 Thread Steve Beattie
Thank you for using Ubuntu and taking the time to report a bug. It will
help anyone trying to diagnose the issue you're having if you can
report:

- The release of Ubuntu you are using, via 'cat /etc/lsb-release' or System ->
About Ubuntu.
- The error message you received

Also, this appears to be a "regular" (non-security) bug. I have
unmarked it as a security issue since this bug does not show evidence of
allowing attackers to cross privilege boundaries nor directly cause loss
of data/privacy. Please feel free to report any other bugs you may find.

Thanks!

[Bug 1546328] Re: Systray option does not work.

2016-03-18 Thread Ross Gammon
I now upload a new debdiff which rather than dropping back to build with
QT4, instead cherry-picks some upstream commits to get the systray menu
working, and depend upon appmenu-qt5 to get the systray icon showing.

The changes can be tested by upgrading to the verision uploaded to the Ubuntu
Studio Testing ppa:
https://launchpad.net/~ubuntustudio-dev/+archive/ubuntu/dev-testing

The only difference in that version being the changelog version (~ppa3).

account the source output, as in fact that code was not

[Bug 1558196] Re: rpcbind does not start on boot under systemd

2016-03-18 Thread John Sopko
We are on the right track, I have tried so many things I need to reload
the system to reset the default config for everything. Our 14.04 systems
run rpc.statd but not all the other nfs stuff. So maybe enabling that
service will be a work around, that is it will cause rpcbind to start.
I will need some time to reload a default system. Thanks for your input.

rebooted to see if the fix persists.

[Bug 1558517] [NEW] ubuntu-device-flash --install option doesn't work

2016-03-18 Thread Kyle Fazzari
Public bug reported:

I'm trying to preload a single snap when generating an Ubuntu Core image
using ubuntu-device-flash by using the --install option. The option is
accepted, and I see the snap in question being downloaded. The resulting
image boots successfully, I see the snap in /snaps, the .mount file in
/etc/systemd/system, but the snap is not shown in `snappy list`, nor are
any systemd .service files created for the services contained within it.

With this feature broken, the only way to preload snaps is by creating
an entire gadget snap and not using the official ones, which certainly
isn't ideal.

[Bug 1549250] Re: Numerous Empty Categories

2016-03-18 Thread Robert Ancell
According the the appstream data for k3b, it has the following
categories:

Categories:
  - KDE
  - Qt
  - AudioVideo
  - DiscBurning
  - System
  - Filesystem

I can see it in System>All and System>Filesystem.

For comparison, Brasero has:

Categories:
  - GTK
  - GNOME
  - AudioVideo
  - Audio
  - Video
  - DiscBurning

I think it is the lack of the "Audio" and "Video" categories in k3b that
is causing not so show in those categories.

[Bug 1558211] [NEW] Driver issues after upgrade to linux-image-3.13.0-83-generic

2016-03-18 Thread David Venhoek
Public bug reported:

After upgrading from 3.13.0-79-generic, when booting the
3.13.0-83-generic image, some of the hardware in my laptop and attached
to it's usb ports stops functioning. In particular, the following stop
functioning:

- An external usb wireless mouse (with dedicated receiver, logitech) (receiver
still shows up in lsusb)
- All network cards (wired and wireless) built into the laptop
- Screen brightness control

Possible that more is not functioning, as it is disfunctional to the
point that I'm not actively using it currently (falling back on
3.13.0-79)

ubuntu-bug produces something, but as it needs internet i cannot use that to
report the bug, attached is a tar file containg the output files of:
cat /proc/version_signature > version.log
sudo lspci -vnvn > lspci-vnvn.log

as produced when running 3.13.0-83

the lspci command also produces an error:
pcilib: sysfs_read_vpd: read failed: Connection timed out

Happy to help with extra information if needed.

Public bug reported:

$ npm search [packagename] causes no results to appear, massive use of

[Bug 1558848] Re: symfony: failing autopkgtests

2016-03-18 Thread Steve Langasek
> Steve, at this point, is it possible to delete
3.15.1.is.really.2.8.27-1~build1 from -proposed?

Yes, it is possible. I'm not sure if this will cause launchpad to be
upset if someone later attempts an SRU of aws-sdk-for-php in xenial, due
to trying to upload a lower version number than the last that was
uploaded. I *think* that as long as we drop the current package from
-proposed before release that this is ok. Worst case, the SRUer will
just have to fabricate a 3.15.1.is.really.3.15.1 package version, which
is exactly what they would need to do anyway.

So once we're sure that all the other packages are good to go without
trying to downgrade aws-sdk-for-php, yes I can remove this from
-proposed.
