[Bug 1559407] [NEW] Ability to securely erase the free space of SSD's as much as possible
Public bug reported: I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 dev with secure-delete 3.1-6ubuntu1 and because of the techniques used by SSD's like wear leveling and reserve blocks it is very difficult to reliably delete the remaining free disk space without deleting the existing data. But secure-delete could try various things (potentially configurable) to lower this issue as much as possible: - For example it could try to detect the amount of reserve blocks/make a pessimistic assumption/lets the user control the amount and calculate how much write cycles would be needed to go relative sure that all free blocks including reserve blocks are deleted. - Alternatively/additionally dependent on what features the SSD is capable of (like temporary disabling of the wear leveling) they could be used more or less to the advantage. ** Affects: secure-delete (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1559407 Title: Ability to securely erase the free space of SSD's as much as possible To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/secure-delete/+bug/1559407/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

Trying to turn off and on network in the network manager did not solve the issue. I ended up turning off dnsmasq by eding /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf and comment out the following line from dns=dnsmasq (as suggested into http://www.ubuntugeek.com/how-to-disable-dnsmasq-in-ubuntu-12-04precise.html) This seems to have worked around the issue. I understand the limitation of the workaround (disabling dnsmasq) is that I don't have anymore a local DNS cache, and only the 1st respondind DNS server is queried for address resolution. I ran into a reported bug (sorry I lost its reference) that claimed this to be a distribution upgrade problem, and was suggesting to uninstall dsnmaq and reinstall it. I haven't tried yet. [Bug 1558196] Re: rpcbind does not start on boot under systemd
We are on the right track, I have tried so many things I need to reload the system to reset the default config for everything. Our 14.04 systems run rpc.statd but not all the other nfs stuff. So maybe enabling that service will be a work around, that is it will cause rpcbind to start. I will need some time to reload a default system. [Bug 1549250] Re: Numerous Empty Categories
According the the appstream data for k3b, it has the following categories: Categories: - KDE - Qt - AudioVideo - DiscBurning - System - Filesystem I can see it in System>All and System>Filesystem. For comparison, Brasero has: Categories: - GTK - GNOME - AudioVideo - Audio - Video - DiscBurning I think it is the lack of the "Audio" and "Video" categories in k3b that is causing not so show in those categories. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1549250 Title: Numerous Empty Categories To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-software/+bug/1549250/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1558848] Re: symfony: failing autopkgtests
> Steve, at this point, is it possible to delete 3.15.1.is.really.2.8.27-1~build1 from -proposed? Yes, it is possible. I'm not sure if this will cause launchpad to be upset if someone later attempts an SRU of aws-sdk-for-php in xenial, due to trying to upload a lower version number than the last that was uploaded. I *think* that as long as we drop the current package from -proposed before release that this is ok. Worst case, the SRUer will just have to fabricate a 3.15.1.is.really.3.15.1 package version, which is exactly what they would need to do anyway. So once we're sure that all the other packages are good to go without trying to downgrade aws-sdk-for-php, yes I can remove this from -proposed. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1558848 Title: symfony: failing autopkgtests To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/aws-sdk-for-php/+bug/1558848/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
