Same thing happening to me on Ubuntu 16.04. Sound always resets to only
50% and even worse, it's only the left side. Right side is dropped to
0%.

You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Dear All,

This application is unusable without python bindings for libappindicator
(python-appindicator). Please make this a dependency and not just a
suggestion.

Without python-appindicator, when you start to record the desktop the
application simply disappears and you cannot control it.

Lost an hour trying to discover why the tray icon was not working with
it.

All the best.

[Bug 1556457] Re: [FFe] Demilight (OS/2 weight=350) confuses fontconfig

2016-04-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
** Description changed:

  [FFe request comment]

  Upgrading to fontconfig 2.11.94 is proposed as a fix of this bug,
  including a fix of certain font weight issues due to the switch from
  fonts-droid to fonts-noto-cjk for Chinese (discussed at bug #1468027)
  where we haven't found any way to work around the problem.

  The proposed upload is available in this PPA:
  https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/fontconfig-test2
+
+ Changes are listed in the attachment upstream_git-log.txt

  [Original description including updates]

  See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81453 and bug 1468027.

  Fontconfig lacks support for many OpenType/TrueType OS/2 font weight
  values. This causes a bunch of problems, like mixing up Demilight
  (weight=350) and Regular (weight=400).

  Although it's possible to write (dirty?) hacks for deb-packed fonts,
  this still causes problems for otherwise sourced fonts.

[Bug 1565178] Re: Screen lock broken after release upgrade

2016-04-02 Thread Tim
I have included a workaround for this on the patch attached to Bug
1565178.

There I have added a gnome-session inhibitor to block the screensaver,
on Ubuntu GNOME we will leave this running do if the user exits the
installer (rather than press restart button). They will have no screen
lock until the next reboot, seems somewhat better than a locked screen
to can't be unlocked.

2016-04-02 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. We noticed that you were installing the LTS version of
Ubuntu using an older version of the installation media. The latest
point release of 14.04 is 14.04.3. Please try installing from that
version of the installation media and see if that resolves your issue.
Thanks in advance!

Glad it's working. I didn't rehash, but that should just result in a
dangling symlink which shouldn't be valid. Thanks for testing with a
fresh rehash.

I'll mark this bug as a dupe of 1528645.

[Bug 1565392] [NEW] add support for native pkcs11

2016-04-02 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:

Native pkcs11 support in bind9 is needed for DNSSEC support in FreeIPA.
I've added this to bind9 package here:

https://git.launchpad.net/~tjaalton/ubuntu/+source/bind

It has a patch from Fedora split in two. The first one is applied with
quilt along with the rest of the patches, and it just modifies Makefiles
& configure to allow building native pkcs11 in the same build with
openssl. The second patch is applied manually after copying bin/named,
bin/dnssec, lib/isc, lib/dns for a separate build. This patch modifies
includes and targets to use correct names for this build.

Neither of the patches touch actual code, and if any new patches are
later added that do, the changes are also carried over to the separate
build since the directories are copied during build.

The resulting binaries and libraries are added to the existing packages,
but it's also possible to ship them separate.

This whole separate build thing is because the current build is with
openssl enabled, and I don't know what replacing that with pkcs11 would
mean for existing users. Building it separate is guaranteed to not harm
anyone.

[Bug 1552668] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 00007f4cd3dac000

2016-04-02 Thread Jeffrey I. Schiller
I'm seeing this as well. My setup is a MacBook Pro running Mac OS 10.8.4
with VMWare Fusion 5.0.1

The problem happens after I remove an Aegis Secure Key 3.0 USB Memory
Stick. After this Oops it appears that no new processes can be created
(I suspect some critical lock is left locked).

Seems like Xenial is also affected by that issue, at least when audio device is

Should I create a new bug report for Xenial?

[Bug 1554613] Re: screen flickering on XPS13 9350

2016-04-02 Thread Eugene San
I am still not 100% sure but after a day with this kernel:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.6-rc1-wily/ I can
report the following:

1. No flickering
2. No more kernel dumps/bugs reports
3. No more i915 warnings
4. No more suspend issues
5. No more Dell WMI events errors
6. Not that it wasn't great but battery life seems to be improved (might be a
placebo effect)

Looks like Linux 4.4 is just not ready for Skylake and backporting all the
fixes is going to be hell for both maintainers and users.
If I were in position, I would push for Kernel 4.6 as an official kernel
variant for 16.04 (before 16.04.1).

I just hope Dell will create enough momentum for those issues to be
resolved soon, after all it's their flagship device with official Ubuntu
support.

[Bug 1468027] Re: change default CJK fonts to Noto CJK

2016-04-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
As a test I built fontconfig 2.11.94 in a PPA:

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/fontconfig-test2

I don't know yet if it would be possible to have it accepted for the
16.04 archive. What I know is that it would fix 'the Demilight issue'
without the current workaround in the language-selector .conf files.

Would appreciate if some of you could test it. I'm especially interested
in knowing if this fontconfig version also fixes the undesirable Firefox
behaviour wrt font weights.

[Bug 1556457] Re: [Resolved Upstream] Demilight (OS/2 weight=350) confuses fontconfig

2016-04-02 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your attempt to fix it. Haven't tried the new patch yet, but
before I saw it, I created a new PPA for trying the Arch Linux way: A
possible upgrade to fc 2.11.94:

https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/fontconfig-test2

Much better result. :) (The below is without the influence of the
language-selector .conf files.)

$ fc-match -V
fontconfig version 2.11.1
$ fc-match -a | grep 'Noto Sans CJK SC'
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "DemiLight"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Regular"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Medium"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Thin"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Light"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Bold"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Black"
$ fc-match -V
fontconfig version 2.11.94
$ fc-match -a | grep 'Noto Sans CJK SC'
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Regular"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Medium"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "DemiLight"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Light"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Thin"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Bold"
NotoSansCJK.ttc: "Noto Sans CJK SC" "Black"

I can't tell if it would be possible to have this accepted for 16.04. It
would be very interesting to know if fc 2.11.94 also fixes the Firefox
issue, which has been reported at bug #1468027 (see my latest comment
there).

2016-04-02 Thread Unit 193
Public bug reported:

Please sync newsbeuter 2.9-3 (universe) from Debian unstable (main)

newsbeuter 2.9-1 fixed a few segfaults, including ones in translations
but did not include the memory leak fix. 2.9-3 fixes the memleak now too
so the delta is no longer needed and this will fetch some bug fixes at
very little cost.

newsbeuter (2.9-3) unstable; urgency=medium

  * Fix memory leak. (Closes: #776728)
  * Migrate to debhelper.
  * Update homepage and watch file to use SSL.
  * Added current maintainer to the copyright file.

 -- Nikos Tsipinakis   Sun, 13 Mar 2016 12:15:31
+0200

newsbeuter (2.9-1) unstable; urgency=low

  * New upstream release. (Closes: #776728)
  * Fix segfault when downloading podcasts.
  * Fix highlight article option.
  * Patch erroneous Portuguese, Ukrainian and Chinese translations.
  * Debug symbols for newsbeuter are now provided by newsbeuter-dbgsym,
  newsbeuter-dbg is now obsolete and can be safely removed.
  * Fixed hardening options.
  * Updated copyright to format 1.0
  * Bumped standards to 3.9.7
  * Updated watch file.
  * Removed upstream README from docs.

[Bug 537849] Re: fails to deal with a serial console correctly

2016-04-02 Thread Michal
I have got the same problem.
HP ProLiant ML110 G6 with Lights-Out card. Ubuntu 10 LTS.
The card offers an independent system providing access over network (separate
Ethernet interface) to serial interface (COM1).
I could setup BIOS access quite easily. I had no problems to provide login
prompt and terminal access to the system.
The only issue was with GRUB and messages as stated above.
As far as I understand what is happening:
 - BIOS grabs the serial interface to provide console services there.
 - As the control is passed to grub the ttyS0 is still grabbed by BIOS service.
 - GRUB tries to setup the port with "serial" command and it causes "error: bad
unit number." message.
With that observation I simply decided to "use" this redirection, so I let GRUB
use the "console".
GRUB thinks he is writing on the screen, but BIOS redirects this output to
ttyS0 (COM1).
Here is my config:
===
GRUB_DEFAULT=0
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=7
GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false
GRUB_TIMEOUT=7
GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian`
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet"
#GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX=""
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8"

# Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only)
GRUB_TERMINAL=console
#GRUB_TERMINAL=serial
#GRUB_SERIAL_COMMAND="serial --speed=115200 --unit=0 --word=8 --parity=no
--stop=1"
===
The only disadvantage is "jumping cursor" (it appears like crazy in various
positions on the screen).
Apart of that you have 7 seconds to press ESC key to stop autoboot. If you
press the key the GRUB menu appears.
So now I have remote access to all three stages - BIOS setting, GRUB menu and
system console.

[Bug 392204] Re: Huge CPU usage by mount.ntfs process

2016-04-02 Thread Boris Gjenero
I'm also having this problem copying to an external USB 3 drive, with
Nemo (Cinnamon file manager) copies around 35 MiB/s on my Q6600 CPU.
big_writes helped, but although file copying via Nemo sped up to around
60 MiB/s, it was still CPU bound. Copying via pv < source_file >
dest_file is faster and not CPU bound, around 130 MiB/s. pv without big
writes is CPU bound at 90 MiB/s, so Nemo seems to be the main culprit in
my case.

This is in Xenial Xerus (development branch) 16.04 64-bit.

Didn't you forget to rehash the certificates? But nevertheless, it's
working without the root and with a fresh rehash.

Found your patch, but didn't find a bug related to the patch. Don't know
whether this should be closed as invalid or duplicate.

[Bug 1565293] Re: OpenSSL 1.0.1 fails to recognize cross-signed roots as trusted

2016-04-02 Thread Niklas Keller
We originally encountered that issue on Travis. After I couldn't
reproduce it locally on my 15.10 machine, I downloaded Ubuntu Server
14.04 and could verify it in a VM. Seems like I forgot to install the
latest updates, verified it's fixed in the latest version.

I'll notify the Travis team, so they can update their images.

Thanks!

[Bug 1565367] [NEW] Lightdm fails to show login screen

2016-04-02 Thread Gabriele Tozzi
Public bug reported:

Hello, there!

When I start the PC, it boots correctly.
Lightdm starts and shows the login prompt for about 1-2 seconds, then the
screen goes black, like lightdm just crashed.
If i CTRL+ALT+F5-F9, lightdm is gone, there is no more graphical screen
prompting for login.
If i CTRL+ALT+F1, i can login into the terminal and inspect the problem:
- "service lightdm status" still reports lightdm as "active (running)", even if
no lightdm screen can be found
- "ps aux | grep lightm" shows many lightdm-related processes still running

The log (attached) complains about being unable to autologin, but i have
automatic login disabled.
I suspect this is somewhat related to suspension/resume, because it started to
happen after I've tried to use it.

When I issue a "service lightdm restart", lightdm restarts and this time
it works correctly (it shows the login screen, then "blinks" the screen
to black after 1-2 secs like it is about to get stuck again, but this
time it recovers back to the login prompt and allows me to login).

Here is my lightdm.conf:
"
[SeatDefaults]
allow-guest=false
autologin-guest=false
#autologin-user=
#greeter-session=lightdm-kde-greeter
greeter-session=lightdm-gtk-greeter
#user-session=kde-plasma
user-session=xfce4-session

[Bug 1546328] Re: Systray option does not work.

2016-04-02 Thread Len Ovens
@Dmitry,

Sorry for not being clearer.

"> - Setting "Start minimized to system tray" makes desktop unusable.
Mouse moves, but no input is possible. One has to use c/a/f1 to a vterm
in order to kill qjackctl to make the desktop usable again. "

After setting "Start minimized to system tray", exit the application.
Then restart (from command line or menu). On restart is when the desktop
has trouble. This is xfce as put together in xubuntu/ubuntustudio. I
haven't tried KDE or Unity.

I agree fully that the trouble is with application itself. If there was
a replacement, I would have already suggested it. I don't know what the
difference between qt4 and qt5 is. I am guessing qt4 is systray and qt5
is indicator.

[Bug 1558070] Re: package linux-image-4.2.0-34-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1

2016-04-02 Thread Daniel Gullberg
I was sent to this bug report automatically after a fresh install of
Lubuntu 14.04 LTS on an old laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-B1XP). It was when the
Software Updater was trying to update the kernel that I got this small
window popping up asking me to send a bug report. It said something like
"this bug has already been reported as seen in the web page".

When running the Software Updater once again and paying close attention to the
Details window, I saw this message scrolling by:
"This kernel does not support a non-PAE CPU."

My CPU is one of those having PAE but not reporting it. This means I should
have used the option "forcepae -- forcepae" for the install, as stated in many
places, for example here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/AdvancedMethods
Although I did not use this option when installing Lubuntu. It surprises me
that I got this far anyway? My running kernel in Lubuntu right now is
(according to uname -r) 4.2.0-27-generic. I don't know if this kernel supports
pae, but apparently not as I manage to get up and running after the install?

Anyway: Probably this error can be fixed by using the "forcepae"-option.
Does anyone know if I can force this option now, in my currently running
system?
