[Bug 1556457] Re: [FFe] Demilight (OS/2 weight=350) confuses fontconfig
** Description changed: [FFe request comment] Upgrading to fontconfig 2.11.94 is proposed as a fix of this bug, including a fix of certain font weight issues due to the switch from fonts-droid to fonts-noto-cjk for Chinese (discussed at bug #1468027) where we haven't found any way to work around the problem. The proposed upload is available in this PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/fontconfig-test2 + + Changes are listed in the attachment upstream_git-log.txt [Original description including updates] See https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=81453 and bug 1468027. Fontconfig lacks support for many OpenType/TrueType OS/2 font weight values. This causes a bunch of problems, like mixing up Demilight (weight=350) and Regular (weight=400). Although it's possible to write (dirty?) hacks for deb-packed fonts, this still causes problems for otherwise sourced fonts. [Bug 1565392] [NEW] add support for native pkcs11
Public bug reported: Native pkcs11 support in bind9 is needed for DNSSEC support in FreeIPA. I've added this to bind9 package here: https://git.launchpad.net/~tjaalton/ubuntu/+source/bind It has a patch from Fedora split in two. The first one is applied with quilt along with the rest of the patches, and it just modifies Makefiles & configure to allow building native pkcs11 in the same build with openssl. The second patch is applied manually after copying bin/named, bin/dnssec, lib/isc, lib/dns for a separate build. This patch modifies includes and targets to use correct names for this build. Neither of the patches touch actual code, and if any new patches are later added that do, the changes are also carried over to the separate build since the directories are copied during build. The resulting binaries and libraries are added to the existing packages, but it's also possible to ship them separate. This whole separate build thing is because the current build is with openssl enabled, and I don't know what replacing that with pkcs11 would mean for existing users. Building it separate is guaranteed to not harm anyone. ** Affects: bind9 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1565392 Title: add support for native pkcs11 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bind9/+bug/1565392/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1552668] Re: BUG: unable to handle kernel paging request at 00007f4cd3dac000

[Bug 1554613] Re: screen flickering on XPS13 9350
I am still not 100% sure but after a day with this kernel: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.6-rc1-wily/ I can report the following: 1. No flickering 2. No more kernel dumps/bugs reports 3. No more i915 warnings 4. No more suspend issues 5. No more Dell WMI events errors 6. Not that it wasn't great but battery life seems to be improved (might be a placebo effect) Looks like Linux 4.4 is just not ready for Skylake and backporting all the fixes is going to be hell for both maintainers and users. If I were in position, I would push for Kernel 4.6 as an official kernel variant for 16.04 (before 16.04.1). I just hope Dell will create enough momentum for those issues to be resolved soon, after all it's their flagship device with official Ubuntu support. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1554613 Title: screen flickering on XPS13 9350 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/linux/+bug/1554613/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

As a test I built fontconfig 2.11.94 in a PPA: https://launchpad.net/~gunnarhj/+archive/ubuntu/fontconfig-test2 I don't know yet if it would be possible to have it accepted for the 16.04 archive. [Bug 537849] Re: fails to deal with a serial console correctly
I have got the same problem. HP ProLiant ML110 G6 with Lights-Out card. Ubuntu 10 LTS. The card offers an independent system providing access over network (separate Ethernet interface) to serial interface (COM1). I could setup BIOS access quite easily. I had no problems to provide login prompt and terminal access to the system. The only issue was with GRUB and messages as stated above. As far as I understand what is happening: - BIOS grabs the serial interface to provide console services there. - As the control is passed to grub the ttyS0 is still grabbed by BIOS service. - GRUB tries to setup the port with "serial" command and it causes "error: bad unit number." message. With that observation I simply decided to "use" this redirection, so I let GRUB use the "console". GRUB thinks he is writing on the screen, but BIOS redirects this output to ttyS0 (COM1). Here is my config: === GRUB_DEFAULT=0 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT=7 GRUB_HIDDEN_TIMEOUT_QUIET=false GRUB_TIMEOUT=7 GRUB_DISTRIBUTOR=`lsb_release -i -s 2> /dev/null || echo Debian` GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet" #GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="" GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX="console=tty0 console=ttyS0,115200n8" # Uncomment to disable graphical terminal (grub-pc only) GRUB_TERMINAL=console #GRUB_TERMINAL=serial #GRUB_SERIAL_COMMAND="serial --speed=115200 --unit=0 --word=8 --parity=no --stop=1" === The only disadvantage is "jumping cursor" (it appears like crazy in various positions on the screen). Apart of that you have 7 seconds to press ESC key to stop autoboot. If you press the key the GRUB menu appears. So now I have remote access to all three stages - BIOS setting, GRUB menu and system console. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/537849 Title: fails to deal with a serial console correctly To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/grub-installer/+bug/537849/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1565367] [NEW] Lightdm fails to show login screen

If i CTRL+ALT+F5-F9, lightdm is gone, there is no more graphical screen prompting for login. If i CTRL+ALT+F1, i can login into the terminal and inspect the problem: - "service lightdm status" still reports lightdm as "active (running)", even if no lightdm screen can be found - "ps aux | grep lightm" shows many lightdm-related processes still running The log (attached) complains about being unable to autologin, but i have automatic login disabled. I suspect this is somewhat related to suspension/resume, because it started to happen after I've tried to use it. When I issue a "service lightdm restart", lightdm restarts and this time it works correctly (it shows the login screen, then "blinks" the screen to black after 1-2 secs like it is about to get stuck again, but this time it recovers back to the login prompt and allows me to login). [Bug 1558070] Re: package linux-image-4.2.0-34-generic (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-installation script returned error exit status 1
I was sent to this bug report automatically after a fresh install of Lubuntu 14.04 LTS on an old laptop (Sony Vaio VGN-B1XP). It was when the Software Updater was trying to update the kernel that I got this small window popping up asking me to send a bug report. It said something like "this bug has already been reported as seen in the web page". When running the Software Updater once again and paying close attention to the Details window, I saw this message scrolling by: "This kernel does not support a non-PAE CPU." My CPU is one of those having PAE but not reporting it. This means I should have used the option "forcepae -- forcepae" for the install, as stated in many places, for example here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu/AdvancedMethods Although I did not use this option when installing Lubuntu. It surprises me that I got this far anyway? My running kernel in Lubuntu right now is (according to uname -r) 4.2.0-27-generic. I don't know if this kernel supports pae, but apparently not as I manage to get up and running after the install? Anyway: Probably this error can be fixed by using the "forcepae"-option. [Bug 1560797] Re: package systemd-sysv 225-1ubuntu9.1 failed to install/upgrade: libgcrypt20 was unconfigured
I just experienced this same issue. I upgraded from 15.10 to 16.04 last night, so that update apparently didn't resolve it. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1560797 Title: package systemd-sysv 225-1ubuntu9.1 failed to install/upgrade: libgcrypt20 was unconfigured To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1560797/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
