[Bug 1211110] Re: network manager openvpn dns push data not updating system DNS addresses

2016-05-01 Thread Chadd Hudson
Just did a fresh install of 16.04, added network-manager-openvpn,
network-manager-openvpn-gnome,
network-manager-pptp,
network-manager-vpnc

then I was able to import my vpn configuration files via an import
script from my vpn provider, reboot (since "service networking restart"
no longer works), and connected to my vpn. confirmation through
https://ipleak.net/ and https://www.dnsleaktest.com/ shows no other DNS
than my provider.

This bug appears to be resolved. (to me.)

[Bug 1562618] Re: whole OS freezes seemingly randomly

2016-05-01 Thread Andrew
Vincent, i am also tracking a similar bug (if not the same one). I too
have been testing the latest upstream kernels as instructed. They all
seem to have the same bug for me. My problems started after upgrading
from 14.04 as well. Using my grub2 boot menu to select the oldest kernel
i have seems to have no problems, but all the more recent ones do. Not
sure if you will have the same results, but worth a try.

This is my bug:

[Bug 1577268] [NEW] Brasero can't find libdvdcss when going from Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04

2016-05-01 Thread erico_pt
Public bug reported:

"I recently updated one of my rigs from 14.04 to 16.04. After upgrading
Brasero tells me that it can't find libdvdcss. VLC play an inserted DVD,
I see libdvdcss in /usr/lib/x86_64-linux gnu. However, i didn't see it
simply in /usr/lib/ so I created a link there. Still didn't work, so I
copied an older libdvdcss to /usr/lib. Still no joy.

I checked to see what versions of libdvdcss I had installed - 2.2.0 in
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux, 2.1.0 in /usr/lib * mv'ed the.2.1.0 to
x86_64-linux * rm'ed the sym links to 2.2.0 * new sym link to 2.1.0 *
works. "

Re: [Bug 1577001] [NEW] Installing lxd leaves /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket with wrong group ownership

2016-05-01 Thread Martin Pitt
I can reproduce this bug in a small (autopkgtest) Xenial VM with

dpkg -P lxd; rm /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket; apt-get install -y lxd; ls
-l /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket

But I cannot reproduce this as long as the lxd package is already
installed, all these work fine:

  systemctl stop lxd.{service,socket} lxd-containers; rm
/var/lib/lxd/unix.socket; systemctl reset-failed lxd.{service,socket}
lxd-containers; DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive dpkg-reconfigure lxd; ls
-l /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket

  systemctl stop lxd.{service,socket} lxd-containers; rm
/var/lib/lxd/unix.socket; systemctl reset-failed lxd.{service,socket}
lxd-containers; DEBIAN_FRONTEND=noninteractive apt-get install
--reinstall lxd; ls -l /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket

  systemctl stop lxd.{service,socket} lxd-containers; rm
/var/lib/lxd/unix.socket; systemctl reset-failed lxd.{service,socket}
lxd-containers; export DPKG_MAINTSCRIPT_PACKAGE=lxd; deb-systemd-helper
enable lxd.service; deb-systemd-helper enable lxd.socket; deb-systemd-
helper enable lxd-containers.service; deb-systemd-invoke start lxd-
containers.service; deb-systemd-invoke start lxd.socket; ls -l
/var/lib/lxd/unix.socket

(The reset-failed is to avoid the "unit restarted too often" rate limit
when running these too often)

More interestingly, I also cannot reproduce the bug with the first
command if I stop the socket unit before or after purging:

  systemctl stop lxd.socket; dpkg -P lxd; rm /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket;
apt-get install -y lxd; ls -l /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket

  dpkg -P lxd; systemctl stop lxd.socket; rm /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket;
apt-get install -y lxd; ls -l /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket

This exhibits a bug in lxd's maintainer scripts: Purging lxd still
leaves lxd.socket running. Re-adding an lxd task about this, it needs
the counterpart of starting lxd.socket in the postinst.

> Adding logging to the package's postinst shows that, if
> /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket did not already exist, it is created by the line
> deb-systemd-helper enable lxd.service

Most of "deb-systemd-helper enable" shouldn't affect the permissions of
unix.socket at all, as this is just creating symlinks in
/etc/systemd/system/ (without even calling systemctl for that). So I
figure the "systemctl daemon-reload" at the very end triggers this. And
indeed:

  mv /lib/systemd/system/lxd.socket{,.disabled}; systemctl daemon-reload; sleep
0.5; mv /lib/systemd/system/lxd.socket{.disabled,}; systemctl daemon-reload;
sleep 0.5; ls -l /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket
  srw-rw 1 root root 0 May 1 18:22 /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket

This is inconsistent -- either unix.socket should not be created at all
(as the unit is still running) or with correct permissions.

@Dan: Is this reproducible for you on a 16.04 install that has lxd
purged, no /var/lib/lxd/unix.socket, and lxd.socket *not* running? (Note
that 16.04 comes with lxd preinstalled on server and cloud images) I. e.
do you only see this on reinstall or on a clean install of lxd? If so,
we have another bug, but if "systemctl status lxd.socket" is running
before the reinstall it's the issue I described above.

[Bug 1550608] Re: broadcom-sta-dkms doesn't compile on new kernels (SOLUTION)

2016-05-01 Thread KeithG
Just spent some time trying to do this. Can you please give more
'recipe' type instructions. If I install the driver, I get the fully
compiled driver. If I install the source, it also compiles and installs
the 'wl' driver.

Also, the current version of 16.04 no longer has that older STA package.
It is currently version 6.30.223.271-2. This driver does compile and
install, but as all previous versions does not connect. I can 'see' the
WAPs and can attempt to connect, but the WAP never accepts the password.

Once I install the source code by installing the 'broadcom-sta-source'
package, how do I put your edited files in the directory and recompile
the module then install it where it belongs? I once went through this a
couple years ago and never got any better than what currently happens,
Seeing the network, but not actually connecting. Works great in Windows
at G and N, but the fwcutter based module only connects to G even though
the current module can 'see' the N.

[Bug 1575911] Re: Page on disabling touchpad while typing is erroneous

Hi guys -
this bug was/is really only about to documentation.
As far as the touchpad not being disabled while typing by default & no option
to do so that's in this bug here.
It's a regression from past Releases where it was disabled & an option exposed
in the Touchpad panel

[Bug 1568310] Re: BQ E4.5 (OTA-10): gallery-app tries to index thousands of files on the SD card, but should not

2016-05-01 Thread Selene Scriven
Gallery-app 2.9.1.1312 partially fixes this. It doesn't index new files
under a .nomedia marker, but if the .nomedia marker is added after
indexing, gallery-app continues to show those files. So, at the moment
it is necessary to remove the gallery index database in order to make it
stop showing .nomedia-excluded images.

AIUI this should be fixable by patching openssh to use the systemd
socket-passing protocol (sd_listen_fds(3)) instead of relying on inetd-style
socket passing. In that case, openssh can apply whatever controls it wants
to the listen() socket.

I did some more research on this. Disable while typing is controlled by

[Bug 1573052] Re: [packaging] gnome-software provides a broken symlink of /usr/lib/gs-plugins-9/libgs_plugin_xdg_app_reviews.so on Ubuntu 16.04

2016-05-01 Thread Matthias Klumpp
It's not a problem and there is nothing to fix here.
This message is just to inform you that a module for reviews&ratings has failed
to load. This would be an issue, but since Ubuntu is using a different module
for the exact same feature, which disables the other one (that failed to load),
there is no issue here at all.
This is resolved anyway in the next gnome-software, so the only thing you need
to do is wait.
You can just ignore the message, as it isn't indicating any issue on Ubuntu.

It works for me even with rootdelay=200. If you want to hit me up on

[Bug 1575911] Re: Page on disabling touchpad while typing is erroneous

2016-05-01 Thread Joel Gallun
Gunnar, are you serious? the ON/OFF switch disables the touchpad
entirely, which is not what the OP is talking about at all.

The documentation says there is a setting to disable the touchpad while
typing, which is a feature of MacOS, and possibly Windows. Its a very
useful feature and Ubuntu should have it.

The Wiki is wrong, and the OS is deficient WRT to using the GUI to
configure the touchpad. Its as bad as WIndows 10 in that respect.

2016-05-01 Thread Nigel Stewart
To clarify the intended behavior.

$ pkg-config --cflags glew

In other words, headers are supposed to include GLEW via

As a workaround perhaps:

[Bug 1577257] [NEW] Styllus buttons can not be configured on wacom tablet

2016-05-01 Thread Marcelo
Public bug reported:

The functions assigned to a wacom tablet's stylus buttons using SystemSettings
-> Input Devices -> Tablet (translated from portuguese, names in english might
not be exactly those) are ignored by the system and buttons 2 and 3 always
produce a left-click. Everything else about the tablet works fine (pressure
sensitivity, assigning functions to the tablet's express buttons, etc.).
If xserver-xorg-input-wacom-lts-wily is removed, the wacom tablet is not
detected as a tablet anymore (as expected) and does not show up in
SystemSettings -> Input Devices -> Tablet, but it can still be used as a mouse
and, in this case, the stylus buttons work as middle-click and right-click.
I'm running Kubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (fresh install) with the kubuntu backports PPA
enabled. KDE Version is 4.14.13.
The wacom tablet is a Intuos Pro Small (PTH-451).

[Bug 1577256] [NEW] The OVS+DPDK dpdkvhostuser socket bridge, only works as expected, if the KVM Guest also have DPDK drivers loaded

2016-05-01 Thread Thiago Martins
Public bug reported:

Hello guys!

I am seeing a problematic situation here, where a KVM Guest have a huge
negative impact on its neighbors and on the host, if using Linux Kernel
drivers and not DPDK drivers, for the VirtIO vNICs wired against the
"dpdkvhostuser" socket port.

Instead of writing down everything that I am doing, which is super
boring, I'll do a screencast! Maybe this is an opportunity for Canonical
to bring "Video Bug Reports" to Launchpad! ^_^

Watch the steps to reproduce this problem in a screencast now!

 https://www.youtube.com/v/yHnaSikd9XY?version=3&vq=hd720&autoplay=1

At a glance, I'm booting 3 KVM Guest on top of 6 dpdkvhostuser OVS
Ports.

The host setup is like this:

---
# IXIA simulating LAN side
ovs-vsctl add-br br0 -- set bridge br0 datapath_type=netdev
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 dpdk0 -- set Interface dpdk0 type=dpdk

# IXIA simulating WAN side
ovs-vsctl add-br br1 -- set bridge br1 datapath_type=netdev
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 dpdk1 -- set Interface dpdk1 type=dpdk

# Bring it up (not sure if needed)
ip link set dev br0 up
ip link set dev br1 up

# Enable multi-queue on host side, 4 queues
ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:n-dpdk-rxqs=4

# Give mode CPU Cores to ovs-vswitchd PMD threads
ovs-vsctl set Open_vSwitch . other_config:pmd-cpu-mask=

# Customer A DPDK Ports
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 vhost-user1 -- set Interface vhost-user1
type=dpdkvhostuser
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 vhost-user2 -- set Interface vhost-user2
type=dpdkvhostuser

# Customer A VLAN tags
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user1 trunks=110,111
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user2 trunks=110,111

# Customer B DPDK Ports
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 vhost-user3 -- set Interface vhost-user3
type=dpdkvhostuser
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 vhost-user4 -- set Interface vhost-user4
type=dpdkvhostuser

# Customer B VLAN tags
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user3 trunks=112,113
ovs-vsctl set port vhost-user4 trunks=112,113

# Ubuntu KVM Guest with OVS+DPDK, all vlans, test control:
ovs-vsctl add-port br0 vhost-user5 -- set Interface vhost-user5
type=dpdkvhostuser
ovs-vsctl add-port br1 vhost-user6 -- set Interface vhost-user6
type=dpdkvhostuser
---

You start VM 1, wired against vhost-user 1 and 2, speed drop until DPDK
drivers loads up inside of the guest.

You start VM 2, wired against vhost-user 3 and 4, speed drop until DPDK
drivers loads up inside of the guest.

You start VM 3, wired against vhost-user 5 and 6, speed drop until DPDK
drivers loads up inside of the guest.

This is a bad situation where a VM can badly affects its neighbors
intentionally.

Let me know if you guys needs more information about how to reproduce
this, I can also, give access to my test environment via Teamviewer, for
Canonical employees.

Thanks!
Thiago

[Bug 1577234] Re: Keyboard Navigation Docs Page is missing Super+D to select Items in launcher

2016-05-01 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
Thanks for your report!

When testing on my 15.10, I find that if I hold down the key,
the Keyboards Shortcut window is shown and the first 10 application
icons in the Launcher are numbered. And yes, if I press a number key
while holding down , the application with that number is started
(or, if it was already started, becomes focused). Involving the key
makes no difference for me.

Can you confirm that behavior?

[Bug 1577253] [NEW] Gnome Software re-prompts uninstall of software

2016-05-01 Thread Ty Young
Public bug reported:

Gnome Software re-prompts removal of software, even though the software
was just removed. Clicking on remove again may either result in the
software being displayed as not installed correctly or say that the
removal had failed.

To reproduce, hit "remove" on any installed software listed under
"installed" or by searching from the store itself and attempt to remove
the software from either the installed software tab or in the search
results.

successfully from SCRx31 USB reader. Card also works on kernel 3.13.0

[Bug 1575467] Re: Ubuntu 16.04 consistently freezes up / hangs

2016-05-01 Thread Andrew
Hello Christopher,

testing the latest current Intel upstream kernel also has the bug. The
rc5 kernel is still the highest default kernel in my Grub2 boot menu, so
i had to use the [esc] key when booting up to manually choose which
kernel to load. After loading the Intel upstream kernel
4.6.0-994-generic my system was observed to have frozen like before. So
the bug is still present in the latest upstream kernel.

andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ uname -r
4.6.0-994-generic
andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ uname -a
Linux andrew-Inspiron-3451 4.6.0-994-generic #201604292201 SMP Sat Apr 30
02:03:11 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$

---

However i decided to also try the oldest available kernel in my my Grub2
boot menu. That kernel happens to be 3.16.0-70-generic which i assume is
the kernel i had in ubuntu 14.04 which had no problems. after briefly
testing this old kernel so far i have seen no problems whatsoever. Until
i see otherwise i will conclude that the bug was introduced somewhere
after kernel 3.16.0-70-generic. (for those following this bug report
with the same problem as me it might be prudent to use this old kernel
until someone can fix this bug).

andrew@andrew-Inspiron-3451:~$ uname -r

After switching back and forth between the Chromium builds in the

I can confirm that this bug is causes by a bad chromium build. Chromium

[Bug 1577035] Re: [M10 tablet] Dekko can not scroll up when replying in desktop mode

2016-05-01 Thread Selene Scriven
On many other systems, this issue was solved by making the OSK appear in
a regular window instead of an overlay, and then tiling the window
layout. So, it was guaranteed not to overlap anything, and apps didn't
have to do anything special to handle scrolling when the keyboard was
visible, because the window manager resized the windows automatically.
Simple and effective.

On a non-tiling window manager this would be more difficult, like unity8
in desktop mode. But I've seen this solved in non-tiling window
managers too, by giving some windows an "avoid" property to prevent
overlap with other windows. If the keyboard goes along an entire edge
of the screen, the WM can mostly pretend the screen is temporarily
smaller, which is pretty simple. But that doesn't allow making the
keyboard narrower than the screen, so it might be a better idea to do a
more complex version of the "avoid" concept.

Regardless, it's tricky to do partial tiling in a non-tiling window
manager.

Hi,

Thank you so much Aaron!! I reported this bug in Ubuntu Mate and your fix
worked for me. In a nutshell I ran these 2 commands:

sudo mkdir /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/
echo -e 'Section "Device"\n Identifier "Card0"\n Driver "Intel"\n
Option "AccelMethod" "uxa"\nEndSection' | sudo tee
/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf

Re: [Bug 1567096] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-05-01 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
That's not really the sort of test I wanted; I want something I can
show to the SRU team that will motivate including Go 1.6.2 in Ubuntu
16.04. This bug was originally about docker not working, can you
provide reproduction steps for that?

As far as I can tell, everything in yakkety should be new enough to
run the golang-fsnotify tests, but they still fail on ppc64el for me
(TestInotifyRemoveTwice fails with "no error on removing invalid file"
and TestInotifyInnerMapLength hangs until the 10 minute timeout kills
it).

the volume to be set at a reduced level. I increased the volume and
noted that original performance was restored.

[Bug 1577249] [NEW] [USB-Audio - ODAC-revB, playback] Much lower volume since 16.04

2016-05-01 Thread agoodm
Public bug reported:

Hi,

I have a O2+ODAC USB DAC unit.

14.04/15.10 output volume level is identical to Windows; in my case this
means that low gain and volume knob @ 12:00 is as loud as my ears can
handle.

Installed 16.04 today, volume level is considerably lower vs Windows
now. I can now play at high gain and max volume and volume level is
just bearable. I would run into limits of my headphones or hit the pain
threshold if I tried this in Windows.

I've tried adjusting the volume levels in the volume control for both
the app and the system level, both are at 99% and volume level is low.
Allowing above 100% results in destortion but not reaching previously
attainable volume levels.

Im a techy user and capable of advanced troubleshooting if required.

Alan

[Bug 1421184] Re: Merge latest version (2.48.3-1) with Debian

2016-05-01 Thread Shane Synan
Tim Edwards, there's another way to work-around this that might be
easier. I should've added a comment on it.

For the command-line client ONLY: http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/unison
For both graphical and command-line client:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/xenial/unison-gtk
Make sure to download the right architecture from below, most likely 'amd64'
for 64-bit, or 'i386' for 32-bit.  You shouldn't need any of the dependencies;
Ubuntu 14.04 has new-enough versions.

If you have both packages installed (no need), you'll have to upgrade
both or remove the old 'unison' package as 'unison-gtk' seems to offer
the same program.

I've had success directly downloading the .deb packages for Unison
2.48.3-1 and installing them on my desktop and laptop running Ubuntu
14.04 with latest updates. Nothing seems to break, just a slight
sensible re-arrangement of the GUI buttons. This isn't the best idea,
but it's a viable work-around for now. A proper backport to trusty-
updates would be better.

[Bug 1559731] Re: Battery indicator turns red at 30%

2016-05-01 Thread Charles Kerr
This looks like a Desktop variation of bug #1388235. The solution there
was to provide extra icons for 10%, 30%, 50%, 70%, and 90% so that we
could improve our accuracy when rounding to the closest icon, and also
to special case the rounding between [20-30%) to avoid hitting the red-
at-20% icons from not just our own icon sets but others eg Humanity.

I'm seeing the same behavior on my Xenial box when I set the battery to
28%. The icon list sent by indicator-power is correct:

> {"battery-030", "gpm-battery-030", "battery-020", "gpm-battery-020",
"battery-low-symbolic", "battery-low"}

So the rounding rules described in bullet point #2 of
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/indicator-
power/+bug/1388235/comments/5 are working correctly and things look
great on devices with suru icons. The problem for the Desktop is that
bullet point #3 is incorrect:

> indicator-power keep providing the current icon names as fallbacks so
that this fix doesn't break compatibility with other icon themes

Because ?keeping the current icon names as fallbacks" means the problem
still persists in other icon sets. We should tweak the special case rule
for [20-30%) s.t. the fallback icon is *040* instead of *020*, e.g.:

- {"battery-030", "gpm-battery-030", "battery-020", "gpm-battery-020",
"battery-low-symbolic", "battery-low"}
+ {"battery-030", "gpm-battery-030", "battery-040", "gpm-battery-040",
"battery-low-symbolic", "battery-low"}

[Bug 1562431] Re: Huawei E3372 is not switched to modem mode automatically

2016-05-01 Thread Francesca
I am experiencing the same problem with Kubuntu 16.04 and an Huawei
E1800 usb key modem. Indeed, as in the bug description, there is a
workaround also for my device by issuing a switching message manually.

On kubuntu 16.04 usb_modeswitch (version 2.2.5+repack0-1ubuntu1 with data
version 20151101-1) does not automatically perform the switch of huawei E1800
usb modem. This usb modem worked correctly out of the box with kubuntu 14.04.
On kubuntu 14.04 one can read the vendor and device id before and after the
switch by using lsusb in rapid succession: before the switch it is identified as
12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E1552/E1800/E173 (HSPA modem)
and after the switch as
12d1:1436 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. E173 3G Modem (modem-mode)
On kubuntu 16.04 it is identified by lsusb as
12d1:1446 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Broadband stick (modem on)
and it does not switch automatically to the other device id.

Workaround: I can issue a usb_modeswitch command and make it switch manually:
sudo usb_modeswitch --verbose -J -v 0x12d1 -p 0x1446
then, looking at the lsusb output, I can read the correct id:
12d1:1436 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Broadband stick
and the modem is correctly recognized by the network manager.

[Bug 1568604] Re: Mouse cursor lost when unlocking with Intel graphics

2016-05-01 Thread Aaron Raimist
flocculant has determined (and I can confirm) that setting the Intel
drivers to uxa acceleration mode instead of the default sna mode, fixes
this issue. This post shows you how to change that option:

acceleration-method-for-intel-cards-under-ubuntu-12-04

[Bug 1533480] Re: banshee stops respondiing during media import

2016-05-01 Thread Joe Carey
Disabled eMusic plugin... well, it doesn't freeze outright anymore but
it scans and comes up with nothing. Also, disabling the podcasts plugin
is no good, I need my podcasts :)
