[Bug 1645021] [NEW] indicator-datetime shows all-day events from google calendar a day before the actual date of the event

2016-11-26 Thread Doctor Rover
Public bug reported:

bq M10 rc-proposed/r240

The date-time indicator shows all-day events from google calendar one day
before the actual date of the event. For example, the event happening on Monday
is shown on Sunday. It applies for both the calendar and the list of events in
the indicator.
At the same, the Calendar App shows the all-day events correctly.

This behavior is related to the time zone. My time zone is UTC+3. When I
set the zone to UTC+0, the indicator shows the all-day events correctly.

This bug looks just like Bug #1261191, but for Unity 8.
It also seems to be somehow related to Bug #1641720 and Bug #1641726. But after
marking them as fixed, this one is still present.

[Bug 1645022] [NEW] Sound fails after suspend state

2016-11-26 Thread Chad March
Public bug reported:

I have a new Dell XPS 13 9360 with Ubuntu 16.04 4.4.0-47-generic.
Whenever I close the lid, it is set to suspend the OS state. Whenever I
resume, the sound card and settings all appear normal, however no sound
comes out of the speakers. Restarting the computer does not restore the
sound state, but shutting down and starting up does. Similar issues
occur with the touchscreen capabilities.

[Bug 853865] Re: Multi Monitor: Option to hide unity's top panel on the second monitor

2016-11-26 Thread philip
This problem is so severe. I installed ubuntu with unity after talking
everyone into how good ubuntu is, 5 years support and all. Then
installed openlp to project church lyrics and the bar was there and
there was nothing i could do about it. Luckily i had another usb with
opensuse using kde. Opensuse really saved the day. These are the kinds
of things that make users flee from ubuntu.

[Bug 1643250] Re: Installer error copying files to disk

2016-11-26 Thread Dave H
I've since discovered my main issue was lack of support for NVIDIA
GeForce GTX 960M Graphics during the install process. Googling the issue
I found adding nomodeset in grub after quiet splash allowed the install
to proceed and not hang at the start or the end. The issue was probably
a genuine corruption of the USB stick. Every time I got to the point of
install completion (when this disk error did not occur) the process
would hang after the "remove media" request. So I was removing the USB
stick with possibly it still mounted and active. I would then try the
install again. I've probably completed +20 install attempts before the
last successful one using "nomodeset" and the "erase disk and install
Ubuntu" option.

This bug cab be closed.

Mouse cursor of the Trackpad does not move, and the slightest touch of
trackpad - which is inevitable when typing on the laptop keyboard,
without any direct intended touch of the trackpad - generates lots of
wrong signals, like the input focus jumps to another application, the
typed text becomes deleted, etc. The computer is unusable without
  external mouse and keyboard.

Intended touch of the trackpad hangs the system: the cursor of the

[Bug 1380702] Re: No keyboards shortcuts in QT apps

2016-11-26 Thread Anatoli
This bug also affects tray (appindicator) menu items. With

env UBUNTU_MENUPROXY=''

the shortcuts work, but not the tray menu, also problems with updating
the tray icon. With

env QT_QPA_PLATFORMTHEME=''

everything works, but the UI degrades considerably (no Unity look&feel).
Same behavior when removing appmenu-qt5 (everything works, degraded UI).

[Bug 1643717] Re: package tar 1.27.1-1ubuntu0.1 failed to install/upgrade

2016-11-26 Thread visred
This may be due to manual changes or data corruption with files
associated with the tar package on your system causing the package
manager to assume the package as tainted and it is asking for a manual
reinstall to prevent breaking the system.

Just manually reinstall tar and you will be good.

I don't think there is enough info here to pinpoint a bug but if you
have any more information to think it is a bug with tar, please share.

[Bug 1645011] [NEW] CyPS/2 Cypress Trackpad driver errors

2016-11-26 Thread Victor
Public bug reported:

System:Kernel: 4.4.0-47-generic x86_64 (64 bit gcc: 5.4.0)
   Desktop: MATE 1.14.1 (Gtk 3.18.9-1ubuntu3.1)
   Distro: Linux Mint 18 Sarah
Machine: System: China product: ZM180 v: 1.0
   Mobo: China model: ZM180 v: Type2 - Board Version
   Bios: INSYDE v: f date: 11/21/2014

Mouse cursor of the Trackpad does not move, and the slightest touch of
trackpad - which is inevitable when typing on the laptop keyboard,
without any direct intended touch of the trackpad - generates lots of
wrong signals, like the input focus jumps to another application, the
typed text becomes deleted, etc. The computer is unusable without
external mouse and keyboard.

Intended touch of the trackpad hangs the system: the cursor of the
external mouse keeps moving, but no longer can select text or close a
window.

Here is current config info:

[Bug 1645010] [NEW] nodejs 4.2.6 doesn't work with recent babel(-traverse) on ARMv8

2016-11-26 Thread Michael Moll
Public bug reported:

See http://projects.theforeman.org/issues/17491 for more information,
the best would be to update to the latest 4.x in xenial-updates, but I
get that this is a big leap. However, I think it'll be too much work to
find out, which commit in nodejs/v8 fixed that specific bug for ARMv8.

Compiling 4.6.1~dfsg-1 from the Debian repo fixes this issue.

2016-11-26 Thread Scott Kitterman
This bug is actually fixed in 3.1.3-4, so there's nothing to fix in the
package. Try:

sudo apt-get -f install

The should either finish the install successfully or force postfix to be
removed entirely after which a fresh install of 3.1.3-4 should succeed.

[Bug 1616943] Re: Can't auth against U1 in g-s

2016-11-26 Thread Michal Predotka
I checked again today. There was an update for gnome-software. I updated via
Synaptic to avoid updating other packages from the repository. I just checked
"gnome-software" to be updated. Synaptic also checked "gnome-software-common"
and "ubuntu-software" to be updated. Apart from that Synaptic also checked
"libsnapd-glib1" and "snapd-login-service" to be installed. So after updating
and installing mentioned packages, I closed Synaptic and started g-s, I
searched for "krita" (snap version showed up) and tried to install it but
without luck (error about wrong password). I restarted my computer and tried
again installing Krita. This time it went fine. After I entered my launchpad
email and password, I was asked to enter my computer password. After that I
clicked "continue" and Krita was installed.

by clicking on a button.
If I do so, the action fails with this message:

Despite I have installed the installer myself, this error is popping out with
these annoying dialogs.
It's clearly an error in detecting the actual need for the installation and
there is possible wrong URL to download the packages.

[Bug 1645002] [NEW] ssh sessions are not cleanly terminated on shutdown/restart with systemd

2016-11-26 Thread Zsolt Ero
Public bug reported:

In Ubuntu 16.04, a "reboot" command does not terminate the ssh session.
This results in clients hanging, until timing out (sometimes as much as
120 seconds).

This also introduces bugs to all orchestration / automation tools which work
over SSH, since they cannot issue their reboot equivalent for Ubuntu 16.04
hosts. For example, have a look at this issue for Fabric:
https://github.com/fabric/fabric/issues/1488

The exact same bug has been fixed in Debian in version openssh/1:7.2p2-6.
There is a very detailed discussion in their bug tracker:

new system (opensuse though). So, if anyone ever reads this thread, here is
what I found:
1) do not use the "newest" firmware for your b1 pci card but version 3.10-02
2) there are some corruptions happening due to simultaneous write access to the
same object from different threads within capi4hylafax. This garbles the
settings used for the card. I fixed one, when starting a receive thread;
however, multiple receive threads per device still have this problem and should
be avoided (just use one full config section for each channel). I have put the
development code here (all patches from debian/suse have been integrated)
https://github.com/vbargsten/capi4hylafax

[Bug 1644996] [NEW] logrotate config uses syslog group

2016-11-26 Thread Zsolt Ero
Public bug reported:

The default logrotate config uses the "syslog" group.

> # use the syslog group by default, since this is the owning group
> # of /var/log/syslog.
> su root syslog

This is not correct anymore since 16.04, because:

1. "syslog" group doesn't exist on a stock Ubuntu 16.04 system, it only gets
installed via rsyslog
2. The owning group is actually "adm".

This results in logrotate terminating with the following error during
cron.daily run:

run-parts -v /etc/cron.daily
run-parts: executing /etc/cron.daily/logrotate
error: /etc/logrotate.conf:7 unknown group 'syslog'

And can be fixed by changing syslog to adm group.

This is not present when rsyslog is installed, but only because that package
creates the syslog group. This is a common bug in lighter environments, like
Docker, where syslog-ng is a common choice instead of rsyslog, like in this
issue:
https://github.com/phusion/baseimage-docker/issues/338

[Bug 1577596] Re: ntpd not started when using ntpdate

2016-11-26 Thread Paul Donohue
I don't think -u would be necessary if /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate were
using the correct lock file (/var/lock/ntpdate vs /run/lock/ntpdate, as
I pointed out in comment #27).

But I do agree that either adding -u or fixing the lock file path would
be a simple solution to this problem.

[Bug 1627396] Re: Keepass2 hangs; Will not close or accept entries

2016-11-26 Thread Paddy Landau
I have further information.

For me, I find that this problem occurs only with the plugin QuickUnlock
installed.

When QuickUnlock is installed, this problem recurs when using KeePass2
prior to the automatic lock — as set in Tools > Options > Security >
Lock workspace after KeePass inactivity (seconds).

After the lock has activated for the first time, KeePass2 then works
properly.

QuickUnlock:

[Bug 1644995] [NEW] specific SVG file breaks Ubuntu 16.04 desktop + nautilus

2016-11-26 Thread Tom
Public bug reported:

Saving following file on Desktop (Ubuntu 16.04.1) results in:

[Bug 1244869] Re: Unity home lens restricts results to only files after a search returning only files

2016-11-26 Thread vanadium
The issue remains there after more than three years. It is perhaps a
small issue, but it is an issue that is intrusive. It disrupts the
workflow. Rather than quickly launching, for example, gedit, the Dash
does return nothing or just some files. In the worst case, the user
already pressed enter and some random file is launched. The user can
then start to close that file and focus on the Unity dash: call it up
again, press Escape and then enter the query again.

Unique and novel concept, the Unity dash. However, such details and the
care for them determine whether a software is outstanding or not.

[Bug 1577596] Re: ntpd not started when using ntpdate

2016-11-26 Thread Heinrich Hartl
I tested the suggestion from comment #38 by robx. It works for
me.

Deviating from his proposal I only did the following change:
hhl@ILS-AP2:~$ diff ntpdate /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate
9a10
> # exit 0 # hh_161120 - ntpdate prevents start ntpd Ubuntu Bug #1577596

> priveledged source port
> flock -n /run/lock/ntpdate /usr/sbin/ntpdate-debian -su $OPTS 2>/dev/null || :
hhl@ILS-AP2:~$

If -u is specified for ntpdate-debian it might also be possible to bypass
stop/start of ntpd sind ntpdate and ntpd are no longer in conflict for port
UDP/123. I hope there is no race for other resorces (hwclock?). I did disable
stop/start and it works for me.
hhl@ILS-AP2:~$ diff ntpdate /etc/network/if-up.d/ntpdate # disabling ntpd
stop/start
...
39c40,41
< invoke-rc.d --quiet $service stop >/dev/null 2>&1 || true
---
> # stopping service ntp is no loger required if ntpdate-debian is not using

> # invoke-rc.d --quiet $service stop >/dev/null 2>&1 || true
...
44c47
< invoke-rc.d --quiet $service start >/dev/null 2>&1 || true
---
> # invoke-rc.d --quiet $service start >/dev/null 2>&1 || true
hhl@ILS-AP2:~$

I still think package ntpdate should not be in the system unless explicitely
requested.

I suggest package ntpdate to be modified to include option -u when
invoking ntpdate-debian.

The thorough analysis of what went wrong was done by others - see
comments. I am confident a simple change solves the bug and that it
works in general and not only for me!

[Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-11-26 Thread Vincent Gerris
Sorry, I forgot to add something.
Earlier I added a x11 conf file:
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/20-intel.conf
with content:
Section "Device"
Identifier "card0"
Driver "intel"
Option "Backlight" "intel_backlight"
BusID "PCI:0:2:0"
EndSection

This seems to be needed to actually have the :
xbacklight -dec 10
xbacklight -inc 10
working.

(the device is there and doing this as root will still work without conf:
echo 220 > /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness ).

I am going to see if I can fix this and otherwise file a kernel bug.

[Bug 1644986] [NEW] Screen flickering since 16.10 upgrade

2016-11-26 Thread Fernando Fernandez
Public bug reported:

I'm noticing some random screen flickering since 16.10 upgrade.
Something like every 10 minutes, mainly on the secondary monitor (hdmi

Not sure if it's related, but when using LibreOffice Impress to display
presentations on the secondary display the problem worsens, but it's
only flickering in parts of the display, not all.

[Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-11-26 Thread Vincent Gerris
I remembered someone writing a good article and found it:
http://hansdegoede.livejournal.com/13889.html

For me this command shows events
sudo evemu-record /dev/input/event3

but not for my FN+F5, F6 or A combination.

According to his article, it should be filed as a kernel bug.

For everyone else, please check the article and see where your issue is and
file the proper bug.
Good luck :)

[Bug 1586625] Re: Update notification but no update manager icon in launcher ?

2016-11-26 Thread Coeur Noir
** Description changed:

  Hi,

  Ubuntu 16.04 here w/ Unity

I sometimes have some notification about available update for my system.

But icon for update manager never automatically shows in launcher - as it
used to in previous ubuntu version. (a green background icon with an A on)
→ screenshot of expected behavior http://hpics.li/4fb6d59

After seeing the update notification in 16.04 one has to manually run
  update-manager or synaptic.

  Is this intended behavior ?

  Illustrations & examples ( french ) :

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1989947

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1992529

  https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?pid=21576223#p21576223

  _

More than 3 months later can someone tell at least if this was intended
behavior ?
  _

Notifications spring and vanish so it's very easy for users not to see them
and then run a non-updated system for long… It's a basic security matter.
  _

  2016-11-24 other example https://forum.ubuntu-fr.org/viewtopic.php?id=1999705
where many computers remained NON-updated during months
+ _
+
+ 2016-11-26 that very same inefficient and misleading
+ behaviour also happens in 16.10

[Bug 1348890] Re: Asus UX32LN: Brightness keys Fn+F5 and Fn+F6 don't generate evdev event

2016-11-26 Thread Vincent Gerris
I have a UX305FA. I do not use any kernel parameters and the graphical controls
work when doing:
sudo apt-get install xbacklight

Then under open Settings>keyboard>shortcuts

Add custom shortcut keys with:

xbacklight -dec 10

xbacklight -inc 10

I used ALT+F5 and F6.

I didn't notice the ambiant sensor on the A until now :).
It doesn't work for me either.

Does anyone know which event should be send so we can remap it as a work
around?

I run Ubuntu 16.10 with 4.8.0-27 kernel.

I hope some developers can pick this up? A lot of folks are affected.

[Bug 987212] Re: Wireless printer "Processing - Unable to locate printer."

2016-11-26 Thread Arrigo Marchiori
Hello all,

I am not sure if this answers anyone's problem: I see there are many
different issues reported and I feel a bit confused, but I am posting
here my case, hoping that it could help someone.

On my Ubuntu 14.04.5 system, I had problems accessing a printer via DNS-
SD (Avahi).

The problem was in fact that cups could detect, but not print to, a
printer without a resolvable IP address.

I could fix my problem as described in this blog post:
https://mypersonalblog1984.wordpress.com/2016/01/09/cups-unable-to-automatically-locate-printer-2/
i.e. in file /etc/nsswitch.conf, I added the "mdns" option to the "hosts" entry.

This install of zappity which has been in use for about 2 weeks now, and
have upgraded at least 4 times. I keep thinking it will be fixed by the
next upgrade, using apt-get because the update manager keeps failing
with an error on a Mate desktop repository.

[Bug 753520] Re: remmina crashed with SIGSEGV in find_keyboard_layout_in_xorg_rules()

2016-11-26 Thread Abdul-Rahman Bayong
Appears fixed in remmina-next paa for yakkety
https://launchpad.net/~remmina-ppa-team/+archive/ubuntu/remmina-
next

This solved the problem for me on Ubuntu 16.10. My remmina worked well from
16.04 and i have always upgraded to the new Ubuntu Release. It even worked well
under 16.10 for a month and suddenly i had segmentation faults. My keyboard
layout was already 'US'.
Removing the RDP plugin didn't solve the problem. purging and reinstalling
remmina and the rdp plugin didn't solve it either. Only the PPA did solve it.

[Bug 792085] Re: Automatic remount of safely removed USB 3.0 drive

2016-11-26 Thread Norbert
Dear Ubuntu developers!

Please apply SUSE's patch on kernels in Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS,
16.04 LTS, 16.10 - http://kernel.suse.com/cgit/kernel-
source/commit/?id=43e64619bd7eeb1f3d287e8faffc16ed3c1f2a2b .

Why it is so difficult?
Why you ignore this serious bug?

Many users have USB 3.0 on their computers for at least seven years.
Switching to OpenSUSE from Ubuntu is not good option.
