[Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space
Yes sir (jarnos), thank you. This same recurring Bug #1460396 by many names. Is there a patch like this that also works on 16.04 Lubuntu LTS ?? Every time I have researched it over the years, there are variations on this theme. This should be a core functionality of each LTS package upon launch at minimum. What I am trying to get at, are the possibilities of even more helpful suggestions and options upon install, such as how large would you like /root to be? (say 1-5 GB) and how many old kernel versions would you like to keep (2-3 minimum as a safe default) Yes, pruning old kernels automagically could be dangerous, but more so is crashing 1/2 completed upgrades IMHO. [Bug 1672099] Re: DNS loop, >5, 000 queries per second for minutes at a time
You're right, it turns out dnsmasq was only installed because I had installed polipo, which depends on the dnsmasq package. Purging polipo removes dnsmasq. I have been running polipo (with config files unmodified from default) for several years, including since fresh installing Ubuntu-Gnome 16.10. Only since the upgrade to 17.04 two weeks ago has this problem emerged. I was unable to reproduce the bug in my environment and 4.4.0-67 boots fine for me. I can perform a bisect if you can test some kernels. I started a kernel bisect between v4.4.0-66 and v4.4.0-67. The kernel bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels. I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit: df0a1b9cce531e1718dbb966b1e0075b3667598f The test kernel can be downloaded from: http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1674635 Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I will build the next test kernel based on your test results. [Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi
I also had the issue on a fresh Ubuntu 16.04, the applet not working properly after resuming from suspend. But I may have something to help here. A few days ago, I didn't had the issue on a previous install, so I tried the two changes I made on that one suspend-related. [Bug 1659828] Re: gnome-chess crash on pawn promotion
** Description changed: Impact -- The Chess app in Ubuntu 16.10 will crash when trying to promote a pawn. gnome-chess is not installed by default by any current Ubuntu flavors. Test Case - 1. Open the Chess app and click Preferences in the app menu. Change Opposing Player to Human. Close Preferences. 2. Make a move then click New Game to start a new game without a computer player. 3. Move a pawn to the far end of the board to promote it to Queen. Does Chess crash after promoting? Regression Potential Low. This patch only affects pawn promotion which currently causes the game to crash so this is definitely an improvement. Other Info -- There are 3 ways to fix this bug: 1) Build gnome-chess without hardening flags. (This is the approach taken in Fedora 25). 2) Apply a minimal workaround patch to gnome-chess. The patch was acknowledged by the gnome-chess maintainer, but he preferred to push for a proper fix in vala instead. 3) Fix this in vala (it was fixed in vala 0.36 and 0.34.7) and then rebuild gnome-chess against the new vala. + https://git.gnome.org/browse/vala/commit/?id=f6e29bd1 + I initially did #2 in Ubuntu 17.04 Beta (zesty) but will replace it with #3. I am using #2 for Ubuntu 16.10 since it seems a more minimal SRU. This only affect Ubuntu 16.10 since that was the first release where we opted gnome-chess into all available hardening flags. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1659828 Title: gnome-chess crash on pawn promotion To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/vala/+bug/1659828/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1668808] Re: iscsitarget-dkms 1.4.20.3+svn502-2ubuntu4: iscsitarget kernel module failed to build [error: field ‘rx_hash’ has incomplete type]
Quoting smb in LP: #1613758: "iscsitarget was the userspace part to manager iscsi targets which used the iscsitarget-dkms kernel module. But it looks to be no longer actively maintained which caused more and more problems with recent kernels. As Nish pointed out, there is now an implementation of the kernel side driver that comes with the kernel package (so no longer needing any DKMS package) and "tgt" is the package that contains the administrative tools to manage those. This would already work with the 16.04 kernel and installation. Unfortunately the config differs and probably needs to be manually migrated." So in the short term, Shawn, you can just remove iscsitarget-dkms (and iscsitarget, tbh) and use the in-kernel driver and the tgt daemon to host iSCSI disks. In the long term (next few days ideally), I'll submit a change (presuming smb is able to review/ack it) that will simply disable the DKMS build on non-4.4.0 kernels (where it doesn't make sense to use it anymore since the HWE stack from later kernels (e.g., 16.10's 4.8) no longer tests that the same package works, since it has been removed. Honestly, it doesn't really make sense on 16.04 either and I would suggest migrating off the package sooner rather than later. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1668808 Title: iscsitarget-dkms 1.4.20.3+svn502-2ubuntu4: iscsitarget kernel module failed to build [error: field ‘rx_hash’ has incomplete type] To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/iscsitarget/+bug/1668808/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1674837] [NEW] thunder nic: RX_PACKET_DIS fix regression with Extreme Networks switch
Public bug reported: Upstream backport [3] introduced a regression with ThunderX nodes (CRB-1S, CRB-2S) and our 10G switch (Extreme Networks x670 10GE L3). We have opened a downstream bug report [1], where we temporarily bypassed this by pinning the kernel to 4.4.0-45. I also tested 4.8 (multiple builds), 4.10 and 4.11-rc1 (vanilla); all are still affected by link training issues with our switch, with 4.11-rc1 not working at all and reporting more issues (logs attached in a different LP comment [2]). I also confirmed that reverting the commit in questions fixes the issues in our setup (tested on top of 4.10.0-13 linux-image-generic-hwe-edge package from Xenial). Apps launched from a terminal give lots of errors. Some of them aren't really. For example, when they say that the theme line width for a widget is incorrect, when it's actually a trick to override it. But you're right, those "errors" give us lots of information if our theme isn't complete or has a mistake. For the moment, I think Lubuntu is working fine, and being completed when needed. [Bug 1672521] Re: ThunderX: soft lockup on 4.8+ kernels
Hi, Dann, First of all, I think the bug title is misleading, as this issue happens on all kernels we tested (4.4.0-45..66, 4.8.0-x, 4.10.0-x etc). To be fair, we haven't this exact bug (or at least I don't think we did) in practice, i.e. without running stress-ng, 4.4.0-x never ever crashed. The VM use case turned out to be a different bug [1], triggered 100% by AAVMF + vhost. Let me know if I can provide anything else. I consider this particular bug minor (if we don't poke it with stress-ng, everything works well), compared to AAVMF + vhost [1].
