[Bug 798414] Re: update-initramfs should produce a more helpful error when there isn't enough free space

2017-03-21 Thread s frahm
Yes sir (jarnos), thank you. This same recurring Bug #1460396 by many
names. Is there a patch like this that also works on 16.04 Lubuntu LTS
?? Every time I have researched it over the years, there are variations
on this theme. This should be a core functionality of each LTS package
upon launch at minimum. What I am trying to get at, are the
possibilities of even more helpful suggestions and options upon install,
such as how large would you like /root to be? (say 1-5 GB) and how many
old kernel versions would you like to keep (2-3 minimum as a safe
default) Yes, pruning old kernels automagically could be dangerous, but
more so is crashing 1/2 completed upgrades IMHO. Thanks to all!

[Bug 1672099] Re: DNS loop, >5, 000 queries per second for minutes at a time

2017-03-21 Thread Paul
You're right, it turns out dnsmasq was only installed because I had
installed polipo, which depends on the dnsmasq package. Purging polipo
removes dnsmasq.

I have been running polipo (with config files unmodified from default)
for several years, including since fresh installing Ubuntu-Gnome 16.10.
Only since the upgrade to 17.04 two weeks ago has this problem emerged.
Presumably it will hit every user who installs polipo or dnsmasq in
17.04.

[Bug 1674635] Re: Kernel linux-image-4.4.0-67-generic prevent the boot on Microsoft Hyper-v 2012r2 Gen2 VM

2017-03-21 Thread Joseph Salisbury
I was unable to reproduce the bug in my environment and 4.4.0-67 boots
fine for me. I can perform a bisect if you can test some kernels.

I started a kernel bisect between v4.4.0-66 and v4.4.0-67. The kernel
bisect will require testing of about 7-10 test kernels.

I built the first test kernel, up to the following commit:
df0a1b9cce531e1718dbb966b1e0075b3667598f

The test kernel can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1674635

Can you test that kernel and report back if it has the bug or not? I
will build the next test kernel based on your test results.

Thanks in advance

[Bug 1589401] Re: cannot view wifi networks after re-enabling wifi

2017-03-21 Thread Benjamin Blanchard
I also had the issue on a fresh Ubuntu 16.04, the applet not working
properly after resuming from suspend.

But I may have something to help here. A few days ago, I didn't had the
issue on a previous install, so I tried the two changes I made on that
one suspend-related.

First, I enabled hibernation, but it didn't change anything, still the
bug after resume.

And then, I installed tlp, basic with no modification, and it now works
properly every time.

Hope that may help.

[Bug 1659828] Re: gnome-chess crash on pawn promotion

2017-03-21 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  --
The Chess app in Ubuntu 16.10 will crash when trying to promote a pawn.

gnome-chess is not installed by default by any current Ubuntu flavors.

  Test Case
  -
  1. Open the Chess app and click Preferences in the app menu. Change Opposing
Player to Human. Close Preferences.
  2. Make a move then click New Game to start a new game without a computer
player.
  3. Move a pawn to the far end of the board to promote it to Queen.

  Does Chess crash after promoting?

  Regression Potential

Low. This patch only affects pawn promotion which currently causes the game
to crash so this is definitely an improvement.

  Other Info
  --
There are 3 ways to fix this bug:
  1) Build gnome-chess without hardening flags. (This is the approach taken in
Fedora 25).
  2) Apply a minimal workaround patch to gnome-chess. The patch was
acknowledged by the gnome-chess maintainer, but he preferred to push for a
proper fix in vala instead.
  3) Fix this in vala (it was fixed in vala 0.36 and 0.34.7) and then rebuild
gnome-chess against the new vala.

+
I initially did #2 in Ubuntu 17.04 Beta (zesty) but will replace it with
  #3.

I am using #2 for Ubuntu 16.10 since it seems a more minimal SRU.

This only affect Ubuntu 16.10 since that was the first release where we
opted gnome-chess into all available hardening flags.

[Bug 1668808] Re: iscsitarget-dkms 1.4.20.3+svn502-2ubuntu4: iscsitarget kernel module failed to build [error: field ‘rx_hash’ has incomplete type]

2017-03-21 Thread Nish Aravamudan
Quoting smb in LP: #1613758:

"iscsitarget was the userspace part to manager iscsi targets which used
the iscsitarget-dkms kernel module. But it looks to be no longer
actively maintained which caused more and more problems with recent
kernels.

As Nish pointed out, there is now an implementation of the kernel side
driver that comes with the kernel package (so no longer needing any DKMS
package) and "tgt" is the package that contains the administrative tools
to manage those. This would already work with the 16.04 kernel and
installation. Unfortunately the config differs and probably needs to be
manually migrated."

So in the short term, Shawn, you can just remove iscsitarget-dkms (and
iscsitarget, tbh) and use the in-kernel driver and the tgt daemon to
host iSCSI disks.

In the long term (next few days ideally), I'll submit a change
(presuming smb is able to review/ack it) that will simply disable the
DKMS build on non-4.4.0 kernels (where it doesn't make sense to use it
anymore since the HWE stack from later kernels (e.g., 16.10's 4.8) no
longer tests that the same package works, since it has been removed.
Honestly, it doesn't really make sense on 16.04 either and I would
suggest migrating off the package sooner rather than later.

Public bug reported:

Upstream backport [3] introduced a regression with ThunderX nodes (CRB-1S,
CRB-2S) and our 10G switch (Extreme Networks x670 10GE L3).
We have opened a downstream bug report [1], where we temporarily bypassed this
by pinning the kernel to 4.4.0-45.
I also tested 4.8 (multiple builds), 4.10 and 4.11-rc1 (vanilla); all are still
affected by link training issues with our switch, with 4.11-rc1 not working at
all and reporting more issues (logs attached in a different LP comment [2]).

I also confirmed that reverting the commit in questions fixes the issues
in our setup (tested on top of 4.10.0-13 linux-image-generic-hwe-edge
package from Xenial).

BR,
Alex

Theme will load with no problems. That lowercase folder was kept for a
compatibility with prior themes.

Not all folder have the same icon sizes for several reasons. Some
because they're simply not needed, some because we haven't completed
it. But usually, the provided items should suffice a proper DE
workflow.

That's the compatibility thing. It points to the other one.

Apps launched from a terminal give lots of errors. Some of them aren't
really. For example, when they say that the theme line width for a
widget is incorrect, when it's actually a trick to override it. But
you're right, those "errors" give us lots of information if our theme
isn't complete or has a mistake.

For the moment, I think Lubuntu is working fine, and being completed
when needed. Anyway I'll check it out. Thanks for pointing, Gary.

[Bug 1672521] Re: ThunderX: soft lockup on 4.8+ kernels

2017-03-21 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Hi, Dann,
First of all, I think the bug title is misleading, as this issue happens on all
kernels we tested (4.4.0-45..66, 4.8.0-x, 4.10.0-x etc).

To be fair, we haven't this exact bug (or at least I don't think we did)
in practice, i.e. without running stress-ng, 4.4.0-x never ever crashed.

The VM use case turned out to be a different bug [1], triggered 100% by
AAVMF + vhost.

Let me know if I can provide anything else.
I consider this particular bug minor (if we don't poke it with stress-ng,
everything works well), compared to AAVMF + vhost [1].

Thanks,
Alex

[Bug 1630038] Re: thunder nic: avoid link delays due to RX_PACKET_DIS

2017-03-21 Thread Alexandru Avadanii
Hi,

1) We tested different models (CRB-1S, CRB-2S) - all behave the same.
2) Please check the logs "ThunderX 4.11-rc1 console log" in [2] linked above. I
don't think firmware version makes a difference for this issue (we saw the same
bug with firmwares: T22, T27, T31).

All in all, this issue seems pretty tied to the switch we use, and all
firmware/board model combinations behaved the same ...

Thanks,
Alex

[Bug 1449795] Re: keys not showing up after creation

2017-03-21 Thread Leon
Same problem on 14.04.1 Linux Mint Qiana - new keys need some minutes
before they appear in they right window pane. Found, that also with "gpg
- list-key" and "gpg2 - list-keys" it takes some time showing new keys.

[Bug 606365] Re: unable to import config with inlined ca, cert, key or tls-auth

2017-03-21 Thread Martin Zbořil
funnily enough, the bug is actually fixed, all what is needed is
actually network-manager-openvpn-gnome (I tested it on version
1.1.93-1ubuntu1.1 in 16.04.2) installed and then the network settings
configuration gui restarted so the new VPN shows up as openvpn, after
that importing the configuration from ovpn file works..

[Bug 1674824] Re: Content interface plugs autoconnect to the wrong provider

2017-03-21 Thread Pat McGowan
** Description changed:

I have ubuntu-app-platform installed which exposes a slot called "platform"
I created a consumer that looks for slots provider1:shared1 and
provider2:shared2

This is snap interfaces after installing my test snaps and without
- issuing any connect commands
+ issuing any connect commands. Note that these (consumer, provider) are
+ local snaps installed with --dangerous.

  provider1:shared1 -
- provider2:shared2
+ provider2:shared2
  ubuntu-app-platform:platform
consumer:shared1,consumer:shared2

  $ snap version
  snap2.23.5
  snapd 2.23.5
  series 16
  ubuntu 16.04
  kernel 4.4.0-66-generic

  Running consumer reports
cannot mount /snap/ubuntu-app-platform/34 at /snap/consumer/x1/shared1 with
options bind,ro: No such file or directory

Only tested on a classic system, Xenial and Zesty

In another case, I had a snap that plugged ubuntu-app-platform and mir-
libs, similar symptom but in fact the content from platform showed up in
the mir-libs folder of the snap.

Manually connecting (and discard-ns) makes it work

** Attachment added: "yaml for the consumer snap"
