[Bug 1615482] Re: apt-daily timer runs at random hours of the day

2017-04-24 Thread Julian Andres Klode
Of course the load will be higher and peakish again, but the period is
twice as long as it was before (it's now 1 hour instead of 30 minutes),
so that should help.

I don't really get the cloud argument, though. APT will run updates on
boot if the instance was running more than 24 hours ago. And really, are
you saying people are starting cloud instances en masse between 6 and 7?

OP here, I installed the 4 packages here:

However the issue still persists. On startup, everything is still tiny.

[Bug 1685900] Re: On artful, no network after upgrading to systemd 233-5ubuntu1

2017-04-24 Thread Harry
Here are the warnings and messages I get when upgrading systemd

steps required by its unit configuration.

And, when downgrading back to 232-21ubuntu3 there are no such warnings nor

Losing the network DNS may have something to do with those
"removing the obsolete conffile /etc/d-bus1/..."
messages.

[Bug 1685391] Re: DNS leak in Xubuntu 17.04

2017-04-24 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Thanks Simon, the comment on the potential parallel search is great and
could be the source of your leak.

>From the trace you sent it seems when shrunken down to the path like
this:

# you first ask local dnsmask
;; Received 239 bytes from 127.0.0.1#53(127.0.0.1) in 0 ms
# that then asks main dns servers
;; Received 866 bytes from 202.12.27.33#53(m.root-servers.net) in 400 ms
;; Received 678 bytes from 192.5.6.30#53(a.gtld-servers.net) in 77 ms
# dns service provider
;; Received 107 bytes from 204.13.251.27#53(ns4.p27.dynect.net) in 197 ms
# canonical name server
;; Received 171 bytes from 91.189.91.139#53(ns3.canonical.com) in 134 ms

But if I understood dig +trace enough it does so by understanding the dns reply.
So your local dnsmasq or such on 127.0.0.1 is reporting "answer from
202.12.27.33#53(m.root-servers.net)" - then it asks this server next which then
answers ...

If anything it seems that already your local dns cache/proxy is not
asking your "in-vpn" DNS but a public one.

Configs will certainly help a bit in trying to understand that.

[Bug 1264795] Re: Alt+Tab Switcher randomly activates itself

2017-04-24 Thread Brian Gavazzi
This issue is happening on my 2012 MBP 13inch as well.

I am dual booting OSX and Ubuntu 16.04

The issue does not manifest itself when booted into OSX - only Ubuntu.

How to prevent:Remove the power connector. When removed, the
trackpad works normally.

How to reproduce: Plug in the power connector. After connected for
several seconds, the trackpad begins to right-click randomly and/or
initiate the alt-tab command.

2017-04-24 Thread Nazar Mokrynskyi
As an additional information: this issue is primarily triggered by
Firefox when running GPU-related workloads, in my case either video
playback or live SVG charts on stock exchange. When those are not used
issue either doesn't happen at all or very rarely, not even every day.
Video playback and SVG charts together seem to greatly improve
probability of triggering this issue.

[Bug 1685982] Re: Install the cmake helper scripts

2017-04-24 Thread Bas Couwenberg
The proj package is built with Autotools, not CMake.

Ubuntu does not maintain the proj package, so this will not get fixed by
filing a bug in Launchpad.

Including the CMake files in libproj-dev won't be sufficient, as it will
take several releases until this change finds its way into the package
in Ubuntu. But that doesn't get it included in other distributions.

You should include a FindPROJ.cmake in your project and not rely on
upstream to have installed the file.

[Bug 1511503] Re: digikam: geolocation gone

2017-04-24 Thread Adrien Siebert
Accidentally checked on this as I wanted digiKam mainly for its impressive
geolocation UI, and this appear to still be broken in Xenial repos.
For those looking, do note that digiKam 5.x came out in the last few months,
and the "appimage" packages provided by the team do work just fine over here:
https://download.kde.org/stable/digikam/

Ubuntu Zesty (WIP) repos appear to ship 5.x
(http://packages.ubuntu.com/zesty/digikam), which I assume also resolves
this ticket, alas not for LTS releases.

[Bug 1685522] Re: out of date snapshot

2017-04-24 Thread Andy Whitcroft
Hello Jason, or anyone else affected,

Accepted wireguard into zesty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/wireguard/0.0.20170214-1ubuntu0.17.04.1
in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation on how
to enable and use -proposed.Your feedback will aid us getting this
update out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in

[Bug 1674838] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7LGLH_/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129

2017-04-24 Thread Dennis Sheil
I was hitting the bug with "4.10.0-19-generic #21-Ubuntu". With a
standard apt-get update and upgrade (no special kernel install) I am now
on "4.10.0-20-generic #22-Ubuntu".

Got hit with the same bug on this new kernel. So the most recent
general kernel update did not fix anything for me. Incidentally, like
many people here, firefox usage probably helped trigger the bug.

[Bug 1685522] Re: out of date snapshot

2017-04-24 Thread Jason A. Donenfeld
[Impact]
 * After discussion on IRC with the release team, it seems clear that this
package should have stayed in Debian sid and not migrated into a stable release
of Ubuntu. This sentiment is reflected in the original Debian bug report about
such.
 * Thus, rather than keep a rolling package up to date in a stable distro, this
update simply removes the package and informs users about the situation.
 * This was determined to be the right path forward in discussions with
cjwatson and infinity.

[Test Case]
  * This package was tested by installing both resultant .deb files on a fresh
VM.
  * The behavior was perfect, seeing as this package is so simple.

[Regression Potential]

 * There is little regression potential at all for removing this
experimental snapshot. Users wanting to user WireGuard on Ubuntu already
use the up to date PPA instead.

this is a brand new system. it generally runs great but there have been
a few random lockups, mostly programs but on a couple of occasions the

using console commands and have not had any luck.

I'm using a Samsung laptop with a 2nd generation i3. The cstate bug

that has corrupted the file system twice, requiring two reinstalls. All

[Bug 1685620] Re: Screen flashes continuously when brightness set to lower than 100% using fn keys on Samsung NT200B5C-STW/R laptop running Lubuntu 17.04 x64

2017-04-24 Thread flgc
Did this issue start happening after an update/upgrade?
... No, i just got this laptop (second hand) and promptly installed Lubuntu. It
was made in 2013. It uses a hybrid graphics system.
... Since dimming works at the BIOS screen, this seems to be a software issue.

Was there a prior kernel version where you were not having this particular
problem?
... Haven't tested prior versions. Willing to do so.

Tested with 4.11 RC8 and the problem is still present.
When installing with dpgk, the following warnings were returned:

[Bug 1685946] Re: Mismatch between declared and actual encoding in mail notifications and web pages

2017-04-24 Thread Mark Sapiro
This is not a GNU mailman bug. It is a Debian/Ubuntu issue. See
 including comment #6
and the list posts linked from there.

Note that in current Debian/Ubuntu packages there is Debian
91_utf8.patch (available, e.g. in
)

Among other things, this patch redefines the add_language() function to
ignore the third argument and force the encoding to UTF-8.

Your issue is one or both of two things:

You may have custom 'de' templates that are latin-1 encoded (Debian's
patch recodes all the standard templates to utf-8).

You have strings in list attributes that are latin-1 encoded (Definitely
in 'description' attributes. This is the part that Debian completely
overlooked. The recode_list script mentioned at
 and the
mailman-users list thread also mentioned in that comment may help.

There also seems to be another issue in your case. The boilerplate at
the top of comes
from translated strings in messages/de/LC_MESSAGES/mailman.mo. Debian's
patch recodes all these to utf-8 in its distribution, but for some
reason your compiled German message catalog contains latin-1 strings.

mostly public clouds, as well since various tools will perform updates
on boot.

[Bug 1674838] Re: kernel BUG at /build/linux-7LGLH_/linux-4.10.0/include/linux/swapops.h:129

2017-04-24 Thread Chris Hermansen
@Joseph Salisbury;

Just getting ready to try out your kernel test. During the dpkg -i
there were some messages I did not care for, for instance:

dpkg: warning: downgrading linux-headers-4.10.0-20 from 4.10.0-20.22 to
4.10.0-20.22~lp1674838

and

Not updating initrd symbolic links since we are being updated/reinstalled
(4.10.0-20.22 was configured last, according to dpkg)

Among others. In any case, I'm proceeding with the testing now...

[Bug 1672276] Re: ebtables-restore error "Bad table name 'filter'"

2017-04-24 Thread Nish Aravamudan
# ebtables-restore < txt1.txt
Bad table name 'filter'.
# ebtables -t filter -L
Bridge table: filter

Bridge chain: INPUT, entries: 0, policy: ACCEPT

Bridge chain: FORWARD, entries: 0, policy: ACCEPT

Bridge chain: OUTPUT, entries: 0, policy: ACCEPT

So i think this is a bug, probably upstream?

Heh, looks like upstream recently deleted this file:
https://git.netfilter.org/ebtables/commit/?id=826faffa38de8ce55bb32cd1549fb732229fd80f
but I think it's unrelated. In any case, we should probably try to build
from source on a victim LXD and debug it a bit further.

[Bug 1615482] Re: apt-daily timer runs at random hours of the day

2017-04-24 Thread Haw Loeung
The original request to have it randomised over a larger window is as
per LP bug #1554848. As Dimitri points out, many servers and clouds do
not set local timezones so the archive mirrors we run are hit around the
same time saturating the upstream links we have (with users then
reporting issues with updates).

I was having this trouble after upgrading to ubuntu 17.04, I think I've found a
workaround.
I simply uninstalled the following packages
geoclue and geoclue-ubuntu-geoip.
Now it appears off on the settings and on the top bar.

[Bug 1632772] Re: Login option 'GNOME on Wayland' does not start from LightDM

2017-04-24 Thread BigcityCat
I implemented willmo's fix and I also removed unity 8 desktop. It does
login into Wayland after applying these workarounds but logout is
broken. You can't logout. Juts gets stuck on a blank screen.

Re: [Bug 1654918] Re: No Internet access with default of Automatic (DHCP)

2017-04-24 Thread David Oser
I'm sorry @hrvooje - it worked for me.
But I have now risked upgrading my main laptop from 16.10 to 17.04 and it
appears to be working perfectly without the necessity for tweaks or
workaronds or alternative of 8.8.8.8 , etc, etc. I guess the latest in-situ
upgrade contained its own bugfix.
