[Bug 1714398] [NEW] i hear sounds only on wrong key combos or at start up drum roll, but not on youtube or kodi.
Public bug reported: my sounds worked perfect. no issues. when plugging in hdmi cable, i either had to select hdmi for sound, and or, plug in the hdmi cable then turn on the laptop while connected to the tv. after about 5 or 6 times this week, all was fine then, after shutting down the system (although we did have a few power outages and my batter doesnt charge so the system shuts straight down) I took the laptop to the other room as per susual and started kodi, the addon for watching infowars, and there was no sound. started a video on youtube, no sound. started a movie on vlc, no sound.. Now when i used to press the volume up and down button on the laptop, it used to make the noise sound. i mean, even after i lost the sound for the videos. youd hear the sound up sound down. I followed an online thing, sudo apt-get purge pulseaudio then i sudo apt-get install pulseaudio without any luck. but now it doesnt make the up/down vol sounds however, when you power on the system, it still makes the drum roll at the user sign in page. ive sudo apt-get autoromoved ive sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get upgrade(d) obviously subtract that (d) idk what this things issue is. i guess i might reinstall. idk. jsut hate doing that sometimes. might be time. anyhow thank you kindly for your time and your patience with all this nonsense. Hi Christophe, That is excellent. Could you please provide me with a test case that previously reproduced the crash? I'd like to try to boil it down to something simple. Which parts of this change is it that you believe violate feature freeze and require an FFe? (Bugfixes do not require an FFe.) If an FFe is required for the merge, why do a merge rather than cherry- picking of the specific bugfix changes? >From NEWS.Debian, I understand that a key change is to turn on the minimal steps handling by default. What is the impact of this change on the time it takes to do a typical update? Are we in any way increasing the risk of an unclean shutdown due to a laptop running out of battery during the upgrade, where this wouldn't have happened if we weren't doing minimal steps? debian/postinst changes the minimum version at which installinit upgrade handling is applied, and will be reapplied to systems which have the existing artful package installed. Could this be a problem? E.g., does this forcibly override the user's preference on upgrade if they have disabled the service in systemd? ** Changed in: unattended-upgrades (Ubuntu) Status: Confirmed => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714019 Title: Please merge unattended-upgrades 0.96 (main) from Debian unstable (main) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unattended-upgrades/+bug/1714019/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1655153] Re: long-running stunnel leaks memory
** Description changed: We are running a long-running stunnel4 daemon to proxy TLS connections to another set of servers. After leaving it running for a few weeks, its memory usage had grown to 1.5GB. Restarting it reduced its memory usage to expected levels (VSZ and RSS) but while I've been watching it today it has grown by more than 10MB. The stunnel website indicates that there have been fixes relating to memory leaks in versions 5.32 and 5.33, but Ubuntu LTS is still running 5.30. ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04 Package: stunnel4 3:5.30-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.4.0-45.66-generic 4.4.21 Uname: Linux 4.4.0-45-generic i686 ApportVersion: 2.20.1-0ubuntu2.4 Architecture: i386 Date: Mon Jan 9 16:03:37 2017 InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-10-31 (435 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 15.10 "Wily Werewolf" - Release i386 (20151021) ProcEnviron: - TERM=xterm - SHELL=/bin/bash - PATH=(custom, no user) - LANG=en_US.UTF-8 - XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= + Â TERM=xterm + Â SHELL=/bin/bash + Â PATH=(custom, no user) + Â LANG=en_US.UTF-8 + Â XDG_RUNTIME_DIR= SourcePackage: stunnel4 UpgradeStatus: Upgraded to xenial on 2016-05-18 (236 days ago) mtime.conffile..etc.default.stunnel4: 2016-10-26T22:22:28.166247 + + === + + [Impact] + + * This bug results in a leak of TLS session objects in the stunnel4 + server whenever a connection is closed. For a long running stunnel4 + server, it can eventually consume all available memory. + + * This bug was introduced in stunnel 5.27, and subsequently fixed in + 5.33. Ubuntu Xenial uses 5.30. + + * For Ubuntu, only Xenial is currently impacted by this bug, as + previous versions of Ubuntu use an older version of stunnel4 (prior to + 5.27), and later versions of Ubuntu use a newer version of stunnel4 (at + least 5.33). + + * This patch backports a single specific fix to free TLS session + objects when a connection is closed, but contains no other changes from + newer stunnel4 versions. + + [Test Case] + + * The bug and fix can be reproduced fairly easily by setting up an + stunnel4 server, then using openssl s_client to hammer against the + stunnel4 server. For example, with the server running on localhost port + 443, proxying to a local Apache instance, and using a client + certificate: + + = + #!/bin/bash + while true; do + echo "" | openssl s_client -connect localhost:443 \ + -cert /etc/stunnel/client.pem + done + = + + In another window, monitor RSS of the stunnel4 server process with + something like: + + = + watch 'ps -p $(https://launchpad.net/~lscotte/+archive/ubuntu/stunnel4 + + [Regression Potential] + + * None expected. This backports a fix in newer versions of upstream + stunnel4. + + * In my own environment, I've been running a production stunnel4 server + with my patch for over 85 days (zero restarts of the stunnel4 process). + With the current Xenial version I was unable to run for more than 1 day + without restarting stunnel4. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1655153 Title: long-running stunnel leaks memory To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/stunnel4/+bug/1655153/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1714090] Re: grub2 upgrade doesn't preserve current boot order.
Steve, there have been two problems that are feeding into this bug report, both on MAAS installations to EFI-based nodes, which must normally PXE-boot so that the MAAS server can maintain control of its nodes: * After GRUB package updates, the GRUB package would add GRUB to the start of the boot order, thus removing MAAS's ability to control the node. (MAAS had been preventing the GRUB package from setting the boot order during the initial installation, but MAAS loses control of this detail when software is subsequently updated.) This would sometimes happen immediately after an installation, but other times it would take weeks or months before a new GRUB package would become available. Dann Frazier produced a patch to fix this, as noted in bug #1642298 (although I don't think his fix is actually linked to that bug report). Dann's fix worked by setting a debconf variable to prevent GRUB updates from making changes to the boot order. * After Dann's fix was in place, it was noted that, because there was no GRUB entry in the boot order, if the MAAS server became inaccessible, nodes would become unbootable. I believe a bug was filed for this, but I don't happen to have a reference. In fixing this second bug, changes were made that caused a regression on bug #1642298, as noted in comments #21, #23, and later to that bug report. I don't see a way to address the second issue without re-ordering the NVRAM-based boot order -- AFAIK, efibootmgr always adds a new entry as the first item, so either you'll have no GRUB entry (as in Dann's initial fix to bug #1642298), but this will leave the second issue unaddressed; or you'll have to change the order of boot entries created when the GRUB package creates a GRUB entry as the first one in NVRAM. Of course, leaving that second problem (nodes not booting if the MAAS server becomes inaccessible) unaddressed is another option -- although perhaps not to whoever encountered it. Note also that when I say "GRUB entry," the entry may actually point to shimx64.efi. I don't think I've looked into what ITS packaging does; there might or might not be a parallel problem there. Dann traced the initial problem to the GRUB package, and that's where his fix was applied. This all "just works" on conventional BIOS-based systems because they've got a much simpler boot configuration that isn't changed from the node itself, but that can be changed by MAAS, at least on servers that use IPMI. (Those IPMI features don't work on EFI-based computers, so they aren't helpful in resolving this problem, which applies only to EFI- based computers.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714090 Title: grub2 upgrade doesn't preserve current boot order. [Bug 1633737] Re: Anki fails to start in Yakkety due to missing PyQt4-WebKit
Considering that bug 1633819 has been closed as WONTFIX, I would recommend that Ubuntu remove Anki from its repository until, if ever, the upstream moves to Qt5. We shouldn't retain packages for which we have chosen not to support their dependencies. If people wish to install the program, they must find a way to do so outside of the project. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1633737 Title: Anki fails to start in Yakkety due to missing PyQt4-WebKit To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/anki/+bug/1633737/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1714090] Re: grub2 upgrade doesn't preserve current boot order.
In principle, we have all the necessary information to: - distinguish between a new install of the grub package and an upgrade - distinguish between a user-directed grub-install request and a maintainer-script-driven request - detect whether any of the currently configured boot options match what grub wants to create So I don't see a design reason why we need to reorder the boot sequence as part of the grub package upgrade. If our boot entry has gone missing, ok, assume that's not intended and put it back (and put it back as the first boot option). But if the boot entry is still there, and we're obviously *running* package upgrades so we got into Ubuntu somehow, we can assume we don't need to reorder the boot entries. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714090 Title: grub2 upgrade doesn't preserve current boot order. [Bug 1711756] Re: Chromium crashes when changing profiles
Initially I had some success with deleting my profile and starting over from scratch. Thus losing my bookmarks, sessions, extensions, etc. But then Chromium eventually crashed and now it doesn't open at all. It definitely seems to be profile-related because there are no issues when running `chromium-browser --temp-profile`. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1711756 Title: Chromium crashes when changing profiles To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/chromium-browser/+bug/1711756/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1688018] Re: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6
Using a VPN I have at hand (I don't control the server part of it, though), I can confirm that with n-m 1.2.6 my local DNS (10.0.5.5) is injected after the vpn is established: Aug 31 20:36:32 31-64 dnsmasq[1118]: setting upstream servers from DBus Aug 31 20:36:32 31-64 dnsmasq[1118]: using nameserver 10.0.5.5#53(via ens3) Aug 31 20:36:32 31-64 dnsmasq[1118]: using nameserver 10.172.64.1#53 for domain internal ... That extra 10.0.5.5 DNS server is not injected when I establish the same connection using n-m 1.2.2. I have the "Use this connection only for resources on this network" in the ipv4->routes tab NOT checked, i.e., my intention is that all traffic goes through the VPN. And I have method set to "ignore" in the ipv6 settings tab, so it's just ipv4. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to a duplicate bug report (1682227). https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1688018 Title: DNS server from vpn connection is not being used after network-manager upgrade to 1.2.6 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/network-manager/+bug/1688018/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
