[Bug 1721948] Re: gvfs-open/xdg-open shows message about 'gio open' which confuses user

2017-10-12 Thread Norbert
It is not normal.
Original bug-report was written against apport.
I started to call xdg-open and gvfs-open directly to analyze the problem.

Apport uses xdg-open (which calls gvfs-open) in
/usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/ui.py .
So apport uses deprecated mechanism. It is not critical. But in 16.04 LTS I do
not have such message.

[Bug 1682978] Re: Random Screen Rotation

2017-10-12 Thread James Jones
Today I grabbed the daily build of 17.10 and booted into it from a USB
drive. It still rotates--but at times I can't predict, the screen will
blank out and then come back rotated. (Should I create a new bug for
17.10?) I should mention that this happens on my laptop, an HP Pavilion
with AMD graphics. On my desktop, which has an Nvidia 960, it doesn't.

Fix disabling cinder wsgi vhost from package

The package shipped vhost should be disabled by the charm but due to a bug
this was not happening. This means that apache (on artful) fails to start.
On xenial and zesty both seem to allow apache to start when it has a
conflicting port with haproxy which is why this has not caused a problem
previousy releases (Bug #1720378).

May 2017 to discover it on a USB key in multiboot UEFI, by side of
ubuntu, while another ubuntu is also on my hard disk (all this is
working fine). I did not try with kubuntu on my hard disk (I ask me why
it happens nearly only to me).

To avoid crash while entering my password I must click the mouse pointer into
the password zone before typing any character, though the blinking vertical bar
is already present in that zone. If I do so, there is no problem.
If I don't, kubuntu crashes everytime on login, between the first and the
second character.
kubuntu has just the time to show the asterisk relative to this first character.
And then happens what is described above, in the Bug Description.
I have searched in the known bugs, and this is the nearest, perhaps the same,
perhaps not.
As written above, any help will be appreciated.
However, causing systematic crash, this is really a bug, that should be fixed
(mouse management initialization?).

[Bug 1719671] Re: [SRU][xenial] include recent version containing fips

2017-10-12 Thread Joy Latten
After chatting on IRC, realized new version of tool is being worked on
for #1721272 (artful). Will wait for this to complete and use this bug
to SRU the changes which include enabling fips. Will also redo the data
for this SRU.

** Description changed:

  [IMPACT]
+ Most recent version of ubuntu-advantage-tool on github includes fips
enablement. The fips enablement will allow customers to easily install and
configure Canonical's FIPS certified modules on xenial
+
+ Note: FIPS certified modules are only available for xenial. On other
+ releases the tool will not install and configure fips.
+
when "ubuntu-advantage enable-fips " is issued from commandline,

   - configure the private PPA where the FIPS modules are located
   - install the FIPS modules from this PPA to the local machine from where the
script is run
   - configure the bootloader to enable fips

Upon successful completion of these steps, the customer then gets a message
stating to reboot
the machine to complete the fips enablement process.

Without the script, customers must perform the steps manually.

  [FIX]

Add enable-fips to advantage script. See debdiff below.

  [TEST]
- A test package is available: and it was tested by me on S390, PPC64EL and
AMD64 architectures.
+ A test package is available: and it was tested by me on S390, PPC64EL and
AMD64 architectures.

  [REGRESSION POTENTIAL]
The patch adds a new features to ubuntu-advantage-tool in Xenial to enable
fips. Current functionality was not altered.

1. Synaptic doesn't run in Wayland (17.10 is wayland).

2. sudo xhost +local

Yes, I have those packages installed, but they're the ones you told me to
install in the binary, which i installed per the README, in order.

What should I do step by step please? Should I look for these extra
packages? Should I try instead to remove packages? I'm not clear.

Here's a snippet of my syslog where you can see the machine requesting

completing dhcp with a new ip.

[Bug 1723241] [NEW] No ODF document previews in Dolphin. running on Plasma 5

2017-10-12 Thread Jack rooster
Public bug reported:

Hello. After a week of research, I discvered that the package "kde-
thumbnailer-openoffice" is incompatible with Plasma 5. I've tested this
on three different Ubuntu based distros (the latest versions of KDE
Neon, Mint KDE, and Maui Linux). All had the same problem. I filed a bug
report with the KDE group who verified the problem and was told that I
needed to file a request with the Ubuntu group that an existing patch
created for OpenSUSE called ""kde-odf-thumbnail" be incorporated into
Ubuntu. Thank you. JR

[Bug 1723243] [NEW] dotdee not finding /sbin/restart in Xenial

2017-10-12 Thread Christian Vallières
Public bug reported:

Description:Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS
Release:16.04
dotdee:
  Installed: 1.12-0ubuntu1

Not conform with systemd.

/usr/sbin/dotdee:100
restart_dotdee() {
/sbin/restart "${PKG}" || /sbin/start "${PKG}"
}

Failed because /sbin/restart and /sbin/start are symlink to upstart
initctl that aren't present in a systemd only setup.

sudo /etc/init.d/dotdee start

Failed to start and seem to wait forever, maybe a problem with systemd-
sysv-generator. Adding an & at the end of /etc/init.d/dotdee:23 remove
the wait problem, but it doesn't seem to be running.

[Bug 1720126] Re: [ip link] Message truncated error for large number of passthrough VFs

2017-10-12 Thread Nish Aravamudan
@jangutter: I'm not sure why you built from source? I assume you
actually tested the version in 17.04 and it worked.

The proper solution is to backport the Debian change to xenial and
trusty, most likely. A git repository that can be used with `git-ubuntu`
(sudo snap install --classic git-ubuntu`) is available here:
https://code.launchpad.net/~usd-import-
team/ubuntu/+source/iproute2/+git/iproute2

Feel free to propose MPs against ubuntu/xenial-devel and ubuntu/trusty-

[Bug 1723236] [NEW] geany plugin manager cannot be enabled

[Bug 1723225] Possible regression detected

2017-10-12 Thread Apport retracing service
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1722920 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722920

This crash has the same stack trace characteristics as bug #1722920.
However, the latter was already fixed in an earlier package version than
the one in this report. This might be a regression or because the
problem is in a dependent package.

[Bug 1723225] [NEW] unity-settings-daemon crashed with signal 5

2017-10-12 Thread Till Kamppeter
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1722920 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722920

Public bug reported:

After I have observed that bug 1722988 happened to me and after a reboot
I got this crash report. Probably the crashing unity-settings-daemon
prevented LightDM from starting.

I had to switch to GDM.

Why do we still have unity-settings-daemon after discontinuing Unity?
Why not also discontinue LightDM or make it use gnome-settings-daemon?
