Re: [Bug 1722615] Re: zuluCrypt doesn't launch
So zuluCrypt-cli -o -d /home/USERNAME/filename fails, but sudo zuluCrypt-cli -o -d /home/USERNAME/filename works, with either the old zC or the new binary you gave me. If I run through the GUI from the binary, it looks MUCH nicer than it has. Finally modern look and scaling and windows and buttons. However, it fails to load file, with error 255. I'm prompted to "update" a bunch of things in software updater / sudo apt upgrade, but look like regressions. You might want to run 'apt --fix-broken install' to correct these. The following packages have unmet dependencies: libzulucrypt-dev : Depends: libzulucrypt1.2.0 (= 5.2.0-1) but it is not installed zulucrypt-cli : Depends: libzulucrypt-exe1.2.0 (>= 5.0.2) but it is not installed Depends: libzulucrypt1.2.0 (>= 5.2.0) but it is not installed Depends: libzulucryptpluginmanager1.0.0 (>= 5.0.2) but it is not installed zulucrypt-gui : Depends: libzulucryptpluginmanager1.0.0 (>= 5.0.2) but it is not installed E: Unmet dependencies. [Bug 1722932] Re: libreoffice-core 5.4.2 breaks libreoffice-calc, libreoffice-draw, libreoffice-impress ...
tl;dr: ... so may I beg of your time and ask: “How do I get a specific repository to override all other repositories, for ALL software in that one repository? (At all times, no matter what any other repository does.)” # # # :Full Text: # # # Hi Sebastien, Thank you for your reply. [Note: Background is CentOS/Redhat, in which you add a priority line in the repository definition itself.] Ah, yes? Thought that was a given. As far as I know, about everyone on old LTS uses libreoffice’s direct [trusty, etc.] ppa. Maybe I should have asked, “Why is the stock priority of Ubuntu’s (repository?/ppa?) higher than user added ppa(s)?” “Why did apt knowingly break installed packages, without giving the user an option to abort before doing so? *” (*Isn’t that itself a bug?) I’ve done close to two hours of reading on Ubuntu’s use of pinning and sources.list file(s). Huge amount of conflicting information as to which does what, or even if either can do this... So may I beg of your time and ask: “How do I get a specific repository to override all other repositories, for ALL software in that one repository? (At all times, no matter what any other repository does.)” I have to assume that both Opera and Libreoffice know what they are doing, and their specific release [trusty, etc.] ppa’s will have have timelier/better/more QA’ed/etc. than the Ubuntu versions of the same. # # # I assume I have a standard apt file/directory setup, but I’ll list it anyway (trimmed somewhat for relevance) in case I’m wrong: michael@local [/etc/apt]# find . ./preferences.d ./sources.list ./apt.conf.d ./apt.conf.d/50unattended-upgrades ./apt.conf.d/00aptitude ./apt.conf.d/99synaptic ./apt.conf.d/99update-notifier ./apt.conf.d/01autoremove ./apt.conf.d/01autoremove-kernels ./apt.conf.d/20dbus ./apt.conf.d/20archive ./apt.conf.d/10periodic ./apt.conf.d/00trustcdrom ./apt.conf.d/20changelog ./apt.conf.d/70debconf ./apt.conf.d/15update-stamp ./trusted.gpg ./sources.list.d ./sources.list.d/libreoffice-ppa-trusty.list ./sources.list.d/opera-stable.list ./trusted.gpg.d ./trusted.gpg.d/libreoffice-ppa.gpg ./trustdb.gpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722932 Title: libreoffice-core 5.4.2 breaks libreoffice-calc, libreoffice-draw, libreoffice-impress ... [Bug 1581151] Re: Time to drop 69-language-selector-zh-??.conf?
To me, 1. This is for sure to go. Noto serif has large glyph coverage and better font (hinting) quality. I think it should go first in the alias. 2. Some old software like adobe flash / youtube (flash must die...) has hard-coded font name in the program. I recall UMing and UKai do some tweaks to overcome this. Those settings need to be kept and migrate. Also some old software have hard time dealing with TTC or OTF/OCF, this needs test. (maybe it's time to get rid of them all... ;) ) 3. [Bug 1636708] Re: ifup -a does not start dependants last, causes deadlocks with vlans/bonding
First, I believe the original description of this case shows it's the same problem (or same fix at least) as bug 1573272 - the vlan is racing with its raw device bond to come up. The fix in that bug should address this problem, by forcing the bond interface to always come up first (it's forced during udev processing when udev detects a new vlan interface). So I think this bug can be marked as fixed or duplicate - can anyone who had the original problem please test with the latest vlan package to verify this is fixed? Second, @tom-verdaat, re: comment 11, I set up a system with that config, and rebooted many times and saw no problem. As your description doesn't involve dhcp on the vlan interface - which is what caused the long-term locking of the ifupdown bond0 lock from the initial problem description - it sounds like a new issue. Especially since this is an older bug, and you only now started seeing the problem after upgrading to the latest vlan package. Can you open a new bug for your issue please? ** Changed in: ifupdown (Ubuntu Xenial) Assignee: (unassigned) => Dan Streetman (ddstreet) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1636708 Title: ifup -a does not start dependants last, causes deadlocks with vlans/bonding To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1636708/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

** Description changed: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch. [Bug 1720262] Re: gnome-screenshot Actions don't work in default Ubuntu 17.10 session
We decided to go ahead and disable the broken actions for Ubuntu 17.10. 1 of the 3 Actions is Ubuntu-specific and wasn't translated anyway because of an issue we're having with packages using meson. By dropping the unused actions from the Actions line but otherwise leaving them in the .desktop, this won't hurt translations if we fix the bug properly later. [Bug 1723145] [NEW] Artful update to v4.13.6 stable release
Public bug reported: SRU Justification Impact: The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or a minimally backported form of that patch. The v4.13.6 upstream stable patch set is now available. It should be included in the Ubuntu kernel as well. git://git.kernel.org/ TEST CASE: TBD The following patches from the v4.13.6 stable release shall be applied: imx-media-of: avoid uninitialized variable warning usb: dwc3: ep0: fix DMA starvation by assigning req->trb on ep0 mlxsw: spectrum: Fix EEPROM access in case of SFP/SFP+ net: bonding: Fix transmit load balancing in balance-alb mode if specified by sysfs openvswitch: Fix an error handling path in 'ovs_nla_init_match_and_action()' mlxsw: spectrum: Prevent mirred-related crash on removal net: bonding: fix tlb_dynamic_lb default value net_sched: gen_estimator: fix scaling error in bytes/packets samples net: sched: fix use-after-free in tcf_action_destroy and tcf_del_walker sctp: potential read out of bounds in sctp_ulpevent_type_enabled() tcp: update skb->skb_mstamp more carefully bpf/verifier: reject BPF_ALU64|BPF_END tcp: fix data delivery rate udpv6: Fix the checksum computation when HW checksum does not apply ip6_gre: skb_push ipv6hdr before packing the header in ip6gre_header net: phy: Fix mask value write on gmii2rgmii converter speed register ip6_tunnel: do not allow loading ip6_tunnel if ipv6 is disabled in cmdline net/sched: cls_matchall: fix crash when used with classful qdisc 8139too: revisit napi_complete_done() usage bpf: do not disable/enable BH in bpf_map_free_id() tcp: fastopen: fix on syn-data transmit failure net: emac: Fix napi poll list corruption net: ipv6: fix regression of no RTM_DELADDR sent after DAD failure packet: hold bind lock when rebinding to fanout hook bpf: one perf event close won't free bpf program attached by another perf event net: change skb->mac_header when Generic XDP calls adjust_head isdn/i4l: fetch the ppp_write buffer in one shot net_sched: always reset qdisc backlog in qdisc_reset() net: stmmac: Cocci spatch "of_table" net: qcom/emac: specify the correct size when mapping a DMA buffer vti: fix use after free in vti_tunnel_xmit/vti6_tnl_xmit l2tp: fix race condition in l2tp_tunnel_delete tun: bail out from tun_get_user() if the skb is empty net: dsa: mv88e6xxx: Allow dsa and cpu ports in multiple vlans net: dsa: Fix network device registration order packet: in packet_do_bind, test fanout with bind_lock held packet: only test po->has_vnet_hdr once in packet_snd net: dsa: mv88e6xxx: lock mutex when freeing IRQs net: Set sk_prot_creator when cloning sockets to the right proto net/mlx5e: IPoIB, Fix access to invalid memory address netlink: do not proceed if dump's start() errs ip6_gre: ip6gre_tap device should keep dst ip6_tunnel: update mtu properly for ARPHRD_ETHER tunnel device in tx path IPv4: early demux can return an error code tipc: use only positive error codes in messages l2tp: fix l2tp_eth module loading socket, bpf: fix possible use after free net: rtnetlink: fix info leak in RTM_GETSTATS call bpf: fix bpf_tail_call() x64 JIT usb: gadget: core: fix ->udc_set_speed() logic USB: gadgetfs: Fix crash caused by inadequate synchronization USB: gadgetfs: fix copy_to_user while holding spinlock usb: gadget: udc: atmel: set vbus irqflags explicitly usb: gadget: udc: renesas_usb3: fix for no-data control transfer usb: gadget: udc: renesas_usb3: fix Pn_RAMMAP.Pn_MPKT value usb: gadget: udc: renesas_usb3: Fix return value of usb3_write_pipe() usb-storage: unusual_devs entry to fix write-access regression for Seagate external drives usb-storage: fix bogus hardware error messages for ATA pass-thru devices usb: renesas_usbhs: fix the BCLR setting condition for non-DCP pipe usb: renesas_usbhs: fix usbhsf_fifo_clear() for RX direction ALSA: usb-audio: Check out-of-bounds access by corrupted buffer descriptor usb: pci-quirks.c: Corrected timeout values used in handshake USB: cdc-wdm: ignore -EPIPE from GetEncapsulatedResponse USB: dummy-hcd: fix connection failures (wrong speed) USB: dummy-hcd: fix infinite-loop resubmission bug USB: dummy-hcd: Fix erroneous synchronization change USB: devio: Prevent integer overflow in proc_do_submiturb() USB: devio: Don't corrupt user memory USB: g_mass_storage: Fix deadlock when driver is unbound USB: uas: fix bug in handling of alternate settings USB: core: harden cdc_parse_cdc_header usb: Increase quirk delay for USB devices USB: fix out-of-bounds in usb_set_configuration usb: xhci: Free the right ring in xhci_add_endpoint() xhci: fix finding correct bus_state structure for USB 3.1 hosts xhci: fix wrong endpoint ESIT value shown in tracing usb: host: xhci-plat: allow sysdev to inherit from ACPI xhci: Fix sleeping

[Bug 1720126] Re: [ip link] Message truncated error for large number of passthrough VFs
** Description changed: - I've ran into an issue when creating a large number of virtual functions - on a SR-IOV capable device. + [Impact] - ip link show reports a message truncated error: + When querying a Physical Function netdev with a large amount of VF's + (more than 30), the resulting return message can overflow the 16K + netlink message buffer. + + This can be fixed by enabling message peeking on the socket and resizing + the buffer on receive, or by simply enlarging the receive buffer. + + Since there's an upper limit to the number of VF's per PF, it's + relatively sane to just enlarge the receive buffer. Please see the + attached patch. + + [Test Case] + + # Set up 60 VF's on an SR-IOV device ip link show > /dev/null Message truncated Message truncated Message truncated - A likely cause might be that when called in a system where the number of - PCIe Virtual Functions are more than 30 for a given Physical Function, - the netlink response is larger than 16K, meaning that a message is - truncated. + [Regression Potential] - The issue is seen with Ubuntu14.04 and Ubuntu16.04. + 1) Applications relying on the broken behaviour will need to be updated, but it would be a really dubious use case. + 2) Increasing the rx buffer size increases the memory footprint (but realistically, this is tiny). + 3) Extra processing time is now needed to parse the larger buffer, in the case that a call to "ip link" is on the critical time path of an application, (called multiple times in a tight loop, for example), it would affect load. - A possible solution for the issue is to increase the size of the receive - buffer in libnetlink.c + All of the above are mitigated because this workaround is in upstream + iproute2 and has been running on different distributions without + repercussions. - Additional information: + [Other Info] + + Observed on Ubuntu kernel 4.4.0-93-generic on both 14.04 and 16.04 + = Ubuntu16 system stack@cluster04:~$ lsb_release -a No LSB modules are available. [Bug 1581160] Re: Switch to Noto Sans as default font for Japanese and/or Korean?
Hinting options are rather font dependent. The old free fonts for CJK usually do not have proper hinting embedded so certain specific tweaks (ex. auto hint) are needed to avoid faint strokes. The draw backs are the spaces between strokes may be significantly changed for small size glyphs. It would not be a good idea to just apply the old settings to Noto fonts I think. To me unless something is really broken due to this, it's better leave as it is. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1581160 Title: Switch to Noto Sans as default font for Japanese and/or Korean? @Hans: You can force any localized page to show up by including the language code in the URL, for instance: https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/index.html.de The problem is that the addresses in all the links end with just .html. [Bug 1723127] [NEW] Intel i40e PF reset due to incorrect MDD detection (continues...)
Public bug reported: This is a continuation from bug 1713553; a patch was added in that bug to attempt to fix this, and it may have helped reduce the issue but appears not to have fixed it, based on more reports. The issue is the i40e driver, when TSO is enabled, sometimes sees the NIC firmware issue a "MDD event" where MDD is "Malicious Driver Detection". This is vaguely defined in the i40e spec, but with no way to tell what the NIC actually saw that it didn't like. So, the driver can do nothing but print an error message and reset the PF (or VF). Unfortunately, this resets the interface, which causes an interruption in network traffic flow while the PF is resetting. [Bug 1714803] Re: Search list in resolv.conf breaks resolving for that domain
As for ubuntu.com, that was only as an example to show a situations when things break. I really just copied what the original submitter used -- I should probably have used example.com instead though, that's less confusing. My concrete situation is that the server delivers only inf.uni- konstanz.de because that's what matches the university's organizational structure. (And having it changed it is not an option.) I put the other two (disy.inf.uni-konstanz.de and uni-konstanz.de) in the search path long ago because I regularly connect to hosts in those domains. Saves a lot of typing errors, and AFAIK it's not an uncommon use case for the search path. But this broke DNS resolution for disy.inf.uni-konstanz.de and uni-konstanz.de (probably because they're not in any per-interface search path) on upgrade to 17.04, and got me to this bug. As far as I can tell now, the bug should only affect users on or upgrading to zesty who have manually configured a search path using resolvconf, and artful users who configure one in resolved.conf. That's clearly a minority of users. I certainly agree to the "only send queries to the right nameserver" part. That makes sense, as does UseDomains and setting it to true by default. What I find troubling is that it seems to just swallow the query when there's no interface matching a search path entry. That doesn't agree with the documentation of either Domains= or UseDomains=, which both suggest that one can have search paths not associated with an interface. But I guess that's a bug in the systemd-resolved and not in Ubuntu, so I'll probably just report it upstream. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1714803 Title: Search list in resolv.conf breaks resolving for that domain To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/systemd/+bug/1714803/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1718568] Re: dhclient-script fails to wait for link-local address
Hi Jeff, Thanks for reporting and debugging this! I've tweaked your patch from comment 2 slightly, you can see my version in the debdiffs attached. I was concerned that just a " " check may not always work right, so I explicitly check for the ip output to contain 'inet6' (but not 'tentative') which is really what the function is supposed to be doing. Since this needs to go into the development release, the SRUs to older releases have to wait. And since artful is currently in freeze, this will need to wait for the b-series development to start before we can add the fix, and then SRU the fixes back to artful and older. I'll come back to this once b-series development has started and get the process rolling. Until then, I built test packages here: https://launchpad.net/~ddstreet/+archive/ubuntu/lp1718568 can you verify that fixes it on your system? ** Description changed: + [impact] + + bug 1633479 made a change to isc-dhcp to wait for an interface's link-local ipv6 address to switch from 'tentative' to normal, because all link-local addresses briefly go through a 'tentative' state while the kernel is performing ipv6 link-local 'duplicate address detection' (DAD). While in the 'tentative' state, dhclient can't take over the interface and send out + dhcpv6 requests; it must wait until DAD completes. + + However, the change made in that bug does not account for the case where + the 'tentative' check is done before the interface has even set up a + link-local address; its case statement assumes if there is no + 'tentative' or 'dadfailed' string in the output, the link-local address + is ready to use. When the address check finds no address at all, this + will return as successful, even though it shouldn't, and dhclient will + fail to get the dhcpv6 address. + + [test case] + + on a system that is configured for dhcpv6 on one or more of its + interfaces, repeatedly try to get the dhcpv6 address. For interfaces + that are slower to actually set up their initial tentative link-local + address, they will occasionally fail, since the current code is a race + between the kernel adding the tentative link-local address, and the + dhclient-script.linux code checking the interface for a tentative + address. + + with the patch to correct this, even interfaces slow to add their + tentative link-local address should correctly wait for the address to + get added, and then transition from tentative to normal, and then begin + the dhcpv6 process. + + [regression potential] + + errors in this function can cause dhclient to fail to get a ipv6 address + for an interface; regression would happen if this patch makes it fail + more than it already is failing, but would not cause other failures or + problems after getting an ipv6 address; this patch will affect only + startup-time. + + [other info] + + related bug 1633479 + + + [original description] + + Summary: If a interface does not yet have a link-local address (as it may have just been brought up), dhclient -6 will fail. The built-in "wait for link-local address" loop does not function properly, causing DHCP failure. Discussion: === In trying to configure isc-dhcp-client 4.3.5-3ubuntu1 for IPv6 on Ubuntu 17.04, I was finding that on boot I was getting failures with the logged message "no link-local IPv6 address for " I found that it took several seconds for the link-local address to be assigned when the interface came up (in this case, the ISP/modem-facing interface), and worked around it with a script that looks at /sbin/ifconfig $IFACE | /bin/fgrep -q 'scopeid 0x20' and loops for a fixed number of times for that to be successful. On looking at /sbin/dhclient-script it appears that it *tries* to do the same thing in # set the link up and wait for ipv6 link local dad to finish ipv6_link_up_and_dad() this code sets out=$(ip -6 -o address show dev "$dev" scope link) then checks it with a case statement inside of a loop for case " $out " in *\ dadfailed\ *) error "$dev: ipv6 dad failed." return 1;; *\ tentative\ *) :;; *) return 0;; esac If there is no link-local address, $out will be empty. The default case is taken, and the loop exits immediately: $ echo "'$out'" ; case " $out " in > *\ dadfailed\ *) > echo "dadfailed" > ;; > *\ tentative\ *) > echo "tentative" > ;; > *) > echo "default" > esac '' default As a result, there is no "wait for link-local address" and when there is no link-local address, dhclient fails later on. Possible Fix: = Adding "the missing case" for "no address" case that continues the loop is one possible solution. .case " $out " in .*\ dadfailed\ *) .error "$dev:
[Bug 1722809] Re: GNOME Shell Extensions subcategory is empty in GNOME Software
Valid bug, but I don't think we'll commit to fixing for the release. I forwarded it upstream. As it happens, I've been looking at this a bit already, hopefully should be fixed in a future 3.26 release. :D ** Tags removed: rls-aa-incoming ** Tags added: rls-aa-notfixing ** Changed in: gnome-software (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Bug watch added: GNOME Bug Tracker #788877 https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=788877 ** Also affects: gnome-software via https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=788877 Importance: Unknown Status: Unknown -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1722809 Title: GNOME Shell Extensions subcategory is empty in GNOME Software To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/gnome-software/+bug/1722809/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
