[Bug 1723947] Re: Current upload for 10.1.28-1 fails dep8 unitest on s390x

2017-10-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
The following change would be the "unblocker" for now.
I lack any better idea as after some time I'm lost in the rabbit hole of what
actually goes on in this test between pcre and mariadb - I didn't reach the
stack size detection that was broken last time.

So as outlined initially this will unblock the current upload without
loosing all of the dep8 coverage.

[Bug 1723959] [NEW] Extra language packs are not installed in OEM mode, leaving desktop partially untranslated

2017-10-16 Thread Jean-Baptiste Lallement
Public bug reported:

Test Case
1. Do an OEM installation in English
2. Boot a first time and click on 'Prepare for shipping'
3. Reboot
4. During end user setup, select 'French' and proceed with the setup

Actual Result
Extra language packs for French are not installed and the desktop is partially
translated.

[Bug 1723956] [NEW] busybox-static: several network applets segfaulting

2017-10-16 Thread Simon Rettberg
Public bug reported:

On a fully up-to-date Ubuntu 17.04, running most applets from busybox-
static that are network-related lead to a segfault. Example:

$ busybox nslookup google.com 8.8.8.8
Server:8.8.8.8
Segmentation fault

$ busybox
BusyBox v1.22.1 (Ubuntu 1:1.22.0-19ubuntu2) multi-call binary.
[...]

$ apt-cache policy busybox
busybox:
  Installed: (none)
  Candidate: 1:1.22.0-19ubuntu2
  Version table:
 1:1.22.0-19ubuntu2 500
500 http://ftp.fau.de/ubuntu zesty/universe amd64 Packages

$ dpkg -S /bin/busybox
busybox-static: /bin/busybox

$ apt-cache policy busybox-static
busybox-static:
  Installed: 1:1.22.0-19ubuntu2
  Candidate: 1:1.22.0-19ubuntu2
  Version table:
 *** 1:1.22.0-19ubuntu2 500
500 http://ftp.fau.de/ubuntu zesty/main amd64 Packages
100 /var/lib/dpkg/status

This even happens when passing invalid domains or DNS servers to use
that don't actually run any DNS service. (like "busybox nslookup
google.com 1.2.3.4" or "busybox nslookup bar.foof00 8.8.8.8"), so it
seems to be early in the network setup.

I could not reproduce the problem on the very same system when compiling stock
busybox 1.22.1 (why even? we're at 1.27.x!) myself, neither with a recent git
clone. Also two VMs I had at hand running Ubuntu 14.04 and 16.04 didn't show
this problem with busybox-static. Installing the package "busybox" (which
removes busybox-static) fixes the problem on 17.04.
The only thing that might be related in any way about my system is that it has
no IPv6 connectivity (apart from the link-local address).

I also sent a crash report when the apport window popped up, but I have
no idea where this ends up and how to add further information, hence
this report here. Please let me know if this seemingly trivial bug
cannot be reproduced instantly, so I can try to assist with further
information.

[Bug 1723947] [NEW] Current upload for 10.1.28-1 fails dep8 unitest on s390x

2017-10-16 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

Hi,
this is all kind of interwoven with each other, so I try to summarize the bit I
thought to understand.

1. the last upload of August worked and still does on all architectures [1]
2. there were issues around pcre3 related tests [2]
   Those were fixed upstream [3], but partially as changes to the local pcre3
3. The same change was done to the pcre3 lib of Artful in [4]
   (be aware those pcre versiosn are not fully the same)
4. But our unit tests are still failing (on s390x).
   In fact the tests that now fail on the .28 [5] upload are new.
   That way it is not actually a regression.
5. I tried to adapt the test changing bits of [3] to [5] but it still fails

Since this is s390x only and the test is new rather than a regression
I'd suggest to unblock for now by adding a arch dependent skip for now.

[Bug 1723884] Re: Copy of text from terminal window does not copy

The same happens if I use a PHPstorm instead of gedit in the above
example. So it seems that other applications "take over" the copy-paste
buffer and terminal is unable to write to it.

[Bug 1699161] Re: lshw crashes with SEGV in privileged containers

2017-10-16 Thread Eric Desrochers
** Description changed:

  [Impact]

   * lshw crashes with SEGV in privileged containers, unless you disable
  the 'usb' test: $ lshw -disable usb

  [Test Case]

  ## Create a privileged container. ##
  $ lxc launch ubuntu:16.04 priv -c security.privileged=true
  Creating priv
  Starting priv

  ## Execute lshw inside the privileged container. ##
  $ lxc exec priv bash
  root@priv:~#

  root@priv:~#lshw
  Segmentation fault

  [Regression Potential]

   * Risks of regression are low.

   * I have tested lshw inside containers (unprivileges/privileges) and
  baremetal with success connecting different types of usb device :
  webcam, usb keys, ... The usb output of lshw cmd is shown as expected,
  but this time without segfaulting when container in privilege mode.

   * Basically, the code look if both files doesn't exists

  #define PROCBUSUSBDEVICES "/proc/bus/usb/devices"
  #define SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES "/sys/kernel/debug/usb/devices"
  ...
    if (!exists(SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES) && !exists(PROCBUSUSBDEVICES))
  __return false;

  I kept the above in place.

  But what if only 1 of the 2 files exists ?

  For that reason I added an extra verification if
  SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES exist -> fopen SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES.

  and

  if fopen SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES fails and PROCBUSUSBDEVICES exist then
  -> fopen "PROCBUSUSBDEVICES"

  The code first look for SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES and if it fails it jump
  to PROCBUSUSBDEVICES.

  But if PROCBUSUSBDEVICES fails there was no mechanism to skip, thus
  segfault.

  I also added another if statement in case PROCBUSUSBDEVICES fails like
  in this situation (no such file or directory) in privileged container,
  same as if SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES can't be opened to force to jump on
  trying PROCBUSUSBDEVICES.

  [Other Info]

   * Proposal made to lyonel/lshw (Lyonel Vincent being lshw maintainer) :
     https://github.com/lyonel/lshw/pull/33
-
-and on lshw primary dev site:
-https://ezix.org/src/pkg/lshw/pulls/9
+
+    and on lshw primary dev site:
+    https://ezix.org/src/pkg/lshw/pulls/9

   * I also sent Lyonel an email to poke him.

-  * This bug doesn't affect Trusty in privileged container.
-    Only Xenial and late after some upstream code change.
+  * This bug doesn't affect Trusty in privileged container. (The code is
+ a bit different in Trusty/lshw package. It basically doesn't rely on
+ SYSKERNELDEBUGUSBDEVICES, meaning that it is only validating if
+ PROCBUSUSBDEVICES exist or not and react accordingly).
+
+  * Only affect Xenial and late.
+
+ * The bug has been introduced upstream after this specific commit :
+
https://ezix.org/src/pkg/lshw/commit/9f05be36f7ce6117731e312053d1ec91348a3051

  [Original Description]

I'll attach the apport crash dump.

From: Bug 735496 [mailto:735...@bugs.launchpad.net]
Sent: Monday, October 16, 2017 7:41 AM
To: robertc1...@yahoo.com
Subject: I don't know how :(

*While she smiled, Dante grinned for a different reason. He spotted a
man's wallet hanging out of his back pocket. Walking quickly so he
stood behind him, he snatched his wallet and started running in one
smooth motion. The man yelled after him, giving chase.*

"Hey, punk! Gimme my wallet back!"

Sorry, bud!  My paper now!

*He laughed maniacally, enjoying the chase as he turned into an alley.*

[Bug 1723884] Re: Copy of text from terminal window does not copy

2017-10-16 Thread Phil Davis
I can reproduce by:

1) Open text editor (gedit)
2) Select-copy some text from a terminal window - paste it anywhere (into the
terminal or gedit), it works - good.
3) Type some text into gedit. Select-copy some of that text. Paste it to gedit
or the terminal - works - good.
4) Select-copy some text from a terminal window. Try to paste it anywhere - the
previous text copied in gedit is still in the copy-paste buffer - not good.

Now close gedit - copy works again from a terminal window.

So gedit (at least) seems to "take control of" or "lock" the copy-paste
buffer.

Timo, i was on 4.13.0.12 when noticing the regression. And reverted back
to 4.13.0.11, which didn't change anything. So I don't think that a
kernel update broke my Wayland.

Re: [Bug 1723857] Re: onscreen keyboard appears whenever i touch touchscreen

2017-10-16 Thread tom
then the bug is more specifically

 "enabled" != "force shown every single time user touches and not
disable-able"

in all other senses of the word, enabled suggest the keyboard setting would
be toggled "on" in universal access by default in touchscreen machines.

put another way, "onscreen keyboard not disable-able on touchscreen
devices".

any ideas why I wasn't plagued by this bug on 17.04gnome nor the latest
fedora (gnome by default) with the same touchscreen device? im pretty sure
fedoras gnome is up to date.

[Bug 1723933] [NEW] nexus library broken in 17.04/17.10

2017-10-16 Thread Artur Glavic
Public bug reported:

The HDF5 based NeXus data libraries do not work properly in recent
versions of Ubuntu (tested with Mantid and McStas programs). The program
using these through file access related error messages.

It seems to be a hdf5 library version issue, as reverting libnexus0v5 to
the 16.04 version including the hdf dependencies fixes the issue. There
may be a connection to
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/jhdf/+bug/1696456 which was
reported for the hdfview program and can be fixed equally by reverting
the hdf5 library to the previous version.

(Packages that were reverted: hdf5-tools, hdfview, libhdf5-dev,
libjhdf4-java, libjhdf4-jni, libjhdf5-java, libjhdf5-jni, libnexus0-dev,
libnexus0v5, nexus-tools)

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. The issue you are reporting is an upstream one and it
would be nice if somebody having it could send the bug to the developers
of the software by following the instructions at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/Upstream/GNOME. If you have done so, please
tell us the number of the upstream bug (or the link), so we can add a
bugwatch that will inform us about its status. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 1714803] Re: Search list in resolv.conf breaks resolving for that domain

2017-10-16 Thread Matthias Fratz
In fact it's slightly simpler in that both a.example.com and
b.example.com are public domains. (This is why I put them in the global
config to begin with; these domains will resolve over any nameserver.)
Thus it's not so much that queries for b.example.com don't go to
W.X.Y.Z; it's that they don't go anywhere.

More precisely: By default, ie. without a Domains= line in
resolved.conf, b.example.com resolves correctly: the query goes to some
random nameserver, which can resolve it because it's a public domain.
With Domains=b.example.com, b.example.com fails to resolve, and systemd-
resolve reports "No appropriate name servers or networks for name found"
without querying any server. (At least I cannot observe any DNS or LLMNR
traffic on the network connection of my test VM.)

[Bug 1722226] Re: linux-azure: fix systemd ADT test failure

@xnox -- the testing trigger required to force kernel installation is an
ADT limitation not related specifically to the kernel testing itself.
This is currently how you specify which kernel to test, by triggering
it. It is wrong in the sense you cannot test anything against updates
with this model.
