edc2988c548db05e33b921fed15821010bc74895 is bad, though the symptoms are different. (no output on the external monitor from plymouth; plymouth itself seems to crash and the VT is in text mode, so text input results in characters being shown in the upper lefthand corner over the plymouth background; since plymouth isn't accepting input, I'm not able to boot all the way to userspace and check whether the text VTs are accessible after X or wayland has started, since with plymouth broken the root disk does not unlock.) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1724911 Title: text VTs are unavailable on desktop after upgrade to Ubuntu 17.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1724911/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1725913] [NEW] LibreOffice freezes When I click Tools>Options>LibreOffice>View

[Bug 1720217] Re: Allow building images with kernels without initrd
As part of verifying this SRU I had to change the test case to point to current lp:~ubuntu-core-dev/livecd-rootfs/livecd-rootfs-xenial, not because of any bug in the live-build SRU, but because the previously referenced branch would not reliably trigger the original bug against xenial (due to undefined ordering of initramfs-tools configuration). These livecd-rootfs branches also had already added a versioned dependency on the xenial-proposed version of live-build, so the test case cannot be completed as written. Modifying the livecd-rootfs package to drop this versioned dependency is required; otherwise livecd- rootfs is unpacked but not configured, which prevents other packages to be successfully installed as part of the build by livecd-rootfs itself using apt. Once livecd-rootfs is correctly installed with the relaxed dependency, the original failure is reproducible as expected; and upgrading to the xenial-proposed version of live-build resolves it. ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-xenial ** Tags added: verification-done-xenial -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720217 Title: Allow building images with kernels without initrd To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/live-build/+bug/1720217/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1725615] Re: Unmet dependencies on nginx-extras under Ubuntu artful
I removed `deb http://ppa.launchpad.net/nginx/stable/ubuntu zesty main` from `/etc/apt/sources.list` (that would, presumably, switch ppa off?), ran `sudo apt update` and then `sudo apt install nginx-extras`. [Bug 1716784] Re: Ephemeral boot error: alloc magic is broken at 0x94eceac0: 94e05880
I found out a trick: https://askubuntu.com/questions/760228/booting-under-maas-direction- error-file-not-found This led me to think there was an error with the kernel selected for the ephemeral boot, so, I went into settings, 16.04 was selected, but the kernel was 'no minimum kernel'. I changed that to 16.04-hwe. I then was able to enlist. After that, I switched it back to 'no minimum kernel', and it still enlists fine. I suspect some kind of migration is amiss, and it was trying to tell the node to use a kernel that was no longer there, or not referenced in the right way. Anyway, appears working now with that workaround. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1716784 Title: Ephemeral boot error: alloc magic is broken at 0x94eceac0: 94e05880 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1716784/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That is absolutely not apt's responsibility to handle, when the admin has never indicated to the package manager that they want to keep B; and is nothing when weighed against the asymmetry that causes package cruft to be kept around on every user's systems after upgrade. A user who discovers after autoremovals that she wants B installed can install B from the archive. But a user who just wants no-longer-needed packages to be autoremoved has no reasonable way to get this - because that's what 'autoremove' is supposed to imply already, but it doesn't actually deliver unless you track down this non-obvious apt setting and tweak your config. If 'apt install A=1; apt install A=2; apt autoremove --purge' gives different results than 'apt install A=2; apt autoremove --purge', then that is a bug. Sometimes it's a bug in a package. In this case, it's a bug in the package manager. [Bug 1720217] Re: Allow building images with kernels without initrd
** Description changed: [SRU Justification] initramfsless boot is an important enhancement to decrease boot times and increase density for cloud images. Install this version of livecd-rootfs with the xenial-updates live-build. 3. Create a build directory with 'mkdir build-dir; cd build-dir' 4. Attempt an image build with the command (as root): 'cp -a /usr/share/livecd-rootfs/live-build/{auto,ubuntu-cpc}/ .; env PROJECT=ubuntu-cpc SUBPROJECT=minimized ARCH=amd64 SUITE=xenial lb config && env PROJECT=ubuntu-cpc SUBPROJECT=minimized ARCH=amd64 lb build' 4. Confirm that this produces output files in the current directory. [Regression potential] If another bug is introduced elsewhere that causes an initramfs to fail to be generated in the expected location as part of an image that does require one, the resulting image build will fail or will fail to boot due to the ignored error. [Bug 1718931] Re: No VPN autoconnect
Yeah, I keep getting the "vpn-connection[...]: Failed to request VPN secrets #3: No agents were available for this request." error message in my syslog. I found, however, that THIS worked for me: All you have to do is go Dash->VPN->VPN Settings->connection_name_here->Identity->Password->"Store for all users" and bingo problem solved. If nm-connection-editor says that you can't save the connection (the save box is grayed out), then...just forget the network and set up the connection again (worked for me at least). Once you have checked said auto-connect box with nm-connection- editor and ensured that the VPN password is set to "Store for all users," both the primary connection AND the VPN will start successfully at the same time.
