[Bug 1734542] Re: Acpi support not set: throttling not working

2017-11-26 Thread dino99
** Description changed:

I am seeing a throttling difference about 4.13.13 kernel:

  - the Artful kernel 4.13.0-18-generic, based on 4.13.13, does not manage
the cpu frequency (neither all the previous ubuntu kernels)

  oem@zz64:~$ acpitool -c
    CPU type : Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-6500 CPU @ 3.20GHz
    Min/Max frequency : 800/3200 MHz
Current frequency : 900 MHz (* but the topbar freq icon applet
always show 3200 MHz*)
    Frequency governor : powersave
    Freq. scaling driver : intel_pstate
    Cache size : 3200.000 KB
    Bogomips : 6384.00
    Bogomips : 6384.00
    Bogomips : 6384.00
    Bogomips : 6384.00
Function Show_CPU_Info : could not read directory /proc/acpi/processor/
Make sure your kernel has ACPI processor support enabled.

This seems to be due to the missing /processor/ subdir:
  oem@zz64:~$ ls /proc/acpi/
  wakeup

  - The same pc also have a bionic partition, where the 4.13.13 vanilla
kernel perfectly manage the cpu dynamic frequency, so it is not related
to the uefi settings in that case.
+
+ Note: the comment above about the missing /processor/ subdir also apply
+ to the Bionic install; so it seems acpitool need in fact to be updated
+ as it try to read an outdated path.

[Bug 1734594] [NEW] Feitan token unsupported

2017-11-26 Thread Ben Primrose
Public bug reported:

I've been happily using my Feitan token to access servers at work for a
while, but following an upgrade to artful I can't add it to my ssh agent
(this would previously give "Card added"):

$ ssh-add -s /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opensc-pkcs11.so
Enter passphrase for PKCS#11:
Could not add card "/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/opensc-pkcs11.so": agent
refused operation

I have been off for a week, and thought I may be mistyping my PIN. So I
tried resetting my token, and get this:

$ pkcs15-tool -u
Using reader with a card: Feitian ePass2003 00 00
PKCS#15 binding failed: Unsupported card

[Bug 1734575] Re: guile-2.2 FTBFS on bionic on x86_64?

2017-11-26 Thread Dan Kegel
Built ok on 17.04, where libgc-dev is also 1:7.4.2-8ubuntu1

Is difference gcc?
17.04: 4:6.3.0-2ubuntu1 17.10: 4:7.2.0-1ubuntu1

Yes! On 17.10, I can build ok if I first do

  sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/gcc gcc /usr/bin/gcc-6 6 --slave
/usr/bin/g++ g++ /usr/bin/g++-6
  sudo update-alternatives --install /usr/bin/gcc gcc /usr/bin/gcc-7 7 --slave
/usr/bin/g++ g++ /usr/bin/g++-7
  sudo update-alternatives --config gcc

and pick gcc-6 as the default.

Sooo... what's up with that?

[Bug 1729417] Re: [SRU] New stable micro release 2.35

2017-11-26 Thread Leo Arias
I ran the tests in xenial, zesty and artful, and have been doing exploratory
testing on the release.
I didn't find any blocker bugs, so this has the QA green light.

We have a call for testing in progress, and I'll be on holidays next
week, so I'll leave sergiusens to mark this a verified when he considers
the right time to close the call.

Thanks Lukasz!

[Bug 1734575] Re: guile-2.2 FTBFS on bionic on x86_64?

2017-11-26 Thread Dan Kegel
Fun fact: the xenial backport from

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:vidme/guix
sudo vi /etc/apt/sources.list.d/vidme-ubuntu-guix-xenial.list # enable source
repo
sudo apt update
apt source guile-2.2
tar -czvf guile-2.2-2.2.2.tar.gz guile-2.2-2.2.2

builds fine on ubuntu 16.04 -- although the GC Warnings occur, they do not
result in a failure --
but if built on ubuntu 17.10, fails to build.

Something changed between ubuntu 16.04 and ubuntu 17.10 that triggers or
exposes this problem.

libgc version on Xenial: 1:7.4.2-7.3ubuntu0.1 and on Bionic:
1:7.4.2-8ubuntu1

I suppose next step is to try it on 16.10 and 17.04.

[Bug 1554806] Re: Change of behavior: "dpkg-reconfigure -f noninteractive" unconditionally overwrites /etc/timezone now

2017-11-26 Thread Lars Kruse
According to the upstream package maintainer in Debian (Aurelien Jarno),
/etc/localtime is the authoritive source of information, while
/etc/timezone is just a Debian-specific artifact.

Thus the preferred approach for changing the timzone is indeed the
change of the /etc/localtime symlink, followed by dpkg-reconfigure.

See https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=813226#10 and

[Bug 1578317] Re: Regression: Mouse stuck at start-up

2017-11-26 Thread Shannon O
I clean installed Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Optiplex 390 and experience the same
lack of mouse function after successful login. I attempted the workaround
listed at the top of page but received the following error: "modprobe: ERROR:
could not insert 'usbhid': operation not permitted.
I then noticed my keyboard, which had previously worked normally, had stopped
working. I unplugged both my keyboard and my mouse and reconnected both in turn
and now my mouse and keyboard both work - even after log out and successful
login. I am not a Dev, just reporting what I've noticed and wondering when a
permanent fix will be available.

[Bug 1734586] [NEW] Merge NetworkManager with Debian 1.10.0-1

2017-11-26 Thread Jeremy Bicha
Public bug reported:

Debian has packaged the latest major release of NetworkManager, 1.10. We
should update to this version for Ubuntu 18.04 "bionic".

I have prepared the merge at
https://git.launchpad.net/network-manager?h=bionic

The only thing missing is that this patch needs to be rebased or dropped:
https://git.launchpad.net/network-manager/tree/debian/patches/dns-manager-don-t-merge-split-DNS-search-domains.patch?h=bionic

Otherwise, the build will fail:

src/.libs/libNetworkManagerTest.a(src_libNetworkManager_la-nm-dns-manager.o):
In function `merge_one_ip_config_data':
./src/dns/nm-dns-manager.c:417: undefined reference to
`nm_ip4_config_get_never_default'
./src/dns/nm-dns-manager.c:419: undefined reference to
`nm_ip4_config_get_never_default'

There's been a lot of refactoring, but this commit looks important:
https://cgit.freedesktop.org/NetworkManager/NetworkManager/commit/?id=5c29945

[Bug 1714989] Re: gnome-shell crashed with SIGSEGV in g_type_check_instance_cast() from st_label_set_text() from ffi_call_unix64()

2017-11-26 Thread André
@marco, should an extension be able to crash a gnome-shell session?

This does not seem right, I'm sure it is not that simple, but if this by
design then there should be a warning on gnome-extensions, or some
information on next session startup (or disable them all).

It took me a while to understand which extension was causing the
problem. And while I disabled some that were described in this bug
report, those were not causing it. For me it was dash-to-dock and now it
one is triggered by low disk notification

The only pattern I've detected is that it was always triggered by
notifications.

Anyway... i feel that this creates frustration and a bad user
experience as I had to install an alternative environment for those
critical moments where it has to work (and cannot afford to free
space/disable extensions/debug)

Searching for apps only returns snap version or nothing if no snap available

Test case:
Fresh install of current 18.04 image

Open Ubuntu Software, notice main screen
Search for an app, ex. in screens below

What happens:
Only snap versions are found (if they exist

To fix (user side):
Remove the gnome-software snap plugin package

[Bug 1728417] Re: Xubuntu suspend fails - shuts down instead

2017-11-26 Thread Colin Pretorius
Thanks - for each of freezer, devices, platform, processors, and core, I
was able to run './analyze_suspend.py -rtcwake 20 -f -m mem' and the
machine suspends and resumes successfully. When I again return
/sys/power/pm_test to none, it doesn't (same behaviour as before).

I can upload the output of analyze_suspend.py if they'll be useful (I
don't know if they will be, given that they show successful suspends and
resumes).

when I tried that, the test core dumped instead of failing.
(Adding that flag caused warnings about ABI changes, though, so who knows,
maybe I screwed up.)

Alternately, maybe this package should simply disable that test for now, as
http://lists.gnu.org/archive/html/guile-user/2017-11/msg00063.html indicates
it's flaky.

[Bug 1726616] Re: Firefox crashes repeatedly after system update

2017-11-26 Thread Marco38
Hello @etienne-papegnies
Thanks for the explanation. In the meantime, I have uninstalled Firefox and
started using only Chromium on that RPi. I tried to upgrade to the latest
version of Firefox, recently, hoping that it would solve the issue, but to no
avail for now. Let's hope the Firefox devs will be able to solve this rapidly.

[Bug 1464321] Re: No sound output through docking station headphones jack for Dell Latitude E5450

2017-11-26 Thread Larry Brown
I have a Dell D630 Latitude laptop plugged into a Dell PR01X port
replicator/dock station. I have been struggling with this problem, too.
I solved my problem by changing the configuration in "Pulse Audio Volume
Control" from "Analog Duplex" to "Digital Stereo (IEC958) Output +
Analog Stereo Input". Playback through the audio headphone jack in the
dock station works.

[Bug 1734212] Re: package openssh-server 1:7.5p1-10 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1

2017-11-26 Thread tenwit
Yep thanks for that. I filled in the report that automatically popped up
on when the system errored; I didn't want to contradict the auto-filled-
in fields, I assumed it knew more about what had gone wrong than I did
:)

Thanks for your work, it's appreciated!

Paul

systemd-journald is eating 100% cpu and journalctl is getting spammed by
gnome-software. Laptop is completely unusable at this point as RAM is
exhausted and system is swapping like crazy.

[Bug 1734567] [NEW] gnome-software memory usage climbing dramatically

2017-11-26 Thread Alan Pope 🍺🐧🐱 🦄
Public bug reported:

Found my pc running very slowly. Currently machine is swapping like mad.
Highest users of RAM are chrome and gnome-software. I've closed chrome,
and note that gnome-software is climbing at an alarming rate of hundreds
of MB every few seconds.

I don't even have the graphical store open, only the background service
is doing this.

Currently 5.7GB RAM consumed.

This is the rate of growth every 5 seconds.

$ while [[ 1 = 1 ]]; do ps aux | grep gnome-software | grep -v grep; sleep 5;
done

[Bug 1731207] Re: Ubuntu 17.10 keeps freezing

2017-11-26 Thread Dana
I have an issue, not sure it is the same bug but it started happening
recently sometime after November 12th. HP Probook 6475b freezes when
removing the AC. The cursor jitters, a short audible sound occurs,
screen artifacts then FREEZE. It had been working fine prior to
installing recommend updates. Running kernel 4.13.0.17 but .16 does it
too. It only occurs while switching to battery.

[Bug 1734512] [NEW] Ubuntu 17.10 freezing after plugging a second external monitor

2017-11-26 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

I'm using Dell Inspiron 15R 5520. With ubuntu 17.10
I tried to connect two external monitor using both VGA, HDMI ports.
however as soon as I connect the second external monitor. The whole system is
freezing, and I can't do anything except force restarting.
I've installed windows 8 os, where I checked to use the two external monitors
which worked fine. Except that I have to turn off the laptop's display. So that
the no. of video outputs are only via two monitors VGA, HDMI.

I tried to do similar in Ubuntu, tried to select single display and
tried plugging in another monitor. But as soon as I plug in, the whole
system is freezing.
