[Bug 1754365] [NEW] [FFe]: Enable sssd-secrets service

2018-03-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
Public bug reported:

Please enable the sssd-secrets service. This needs the MIR for http-
parser (#1638957) to pass.

[Rationale]
>From the MIR bug (#1638957):
The Debian sssd package has the secrets service enabled, and disabling it in
the Ubuntu package is part of the delta we carry.

The secrets service can be used as a generic key/value database for
secrets, and one of its consumers is a kerberos KDC via KCM (Kerberos
Cache Manager), implemented by sssd-kcm. sssd-kcm gives users an option
to store the credentials in a cache that persists reboots, as opposed to
when it's stored in the kernel keyring or in /tmp, when that is a tmpfs.

sssd-secrets can also use a remote Custodia
[https://github.com/simo5/custodia] (in Universe) server to store its
secrets there.

sssd-secrets is unix socket activated and won't be running until there
is a connection to that socket.

[Testing]
This is the testing that was done. Only the local store was tested, not the
Custodia remote server case.

During testing, I found a related bug and filed a bug in debian about it
with a related MP in salsa (https://bugs.debian.org/892315).

Quick simple test
=
sudo add-apt-repository -y -u ppa:ahasenack/sssd-secrets-1638957
sudo apt install sssd

# Store a secret
$ curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" --unix-socket
/var/run/secrets.socket -XPUT http://localhost/secrets/foo
-d'{"type":"simple","value":"foosecret"}';echo

200 OK

OK
Success

# retrieve the secret
$ curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" --unix-socket
/var/run/secrets.socket -XGET http://localhost/secrets/foo;echo
{
"type": "simple",
"value": "foosecret"
}

# try to retrieve the same secret but as a different user won't work because
secrets are per user
$ sudo curl -H "Content-Type: application/json" --unix-socket

Extended test
=
This is a more extended version of this verification and it tests the
integration of the secrets service between three services: the secrets service
itself, MIT kerberos client libraries, and the sssd-kcm service (kerberos cache
manager).

sudo add-apt-repository -y -u ppa:ahasenack/sssd-secrets-1638957
sudo apt install sssd sssd-kcm

# use EXAMPLE.COM for the kerberos realm, and localhost for the admin and kdc
servers, when prompted
sudo apt install krb5-user krb5-kdc krb5-admin-server

# the kdc will fail to start because there is no realm yet, that's ok. We will
create it now. Use whatever password you want
sudo krb5_newrealm

[Bug 1754012] Re: [FFe] openwsman, wsmancli

2018-03-08 Thread Andres Rodriguez
** Description changed:

- wsman is useful in MAAS for AMT device power control. In Bionic, curl3
- is being replaced with curl4, and upgrades are currently complicated by
- the fact that wsman ultimately depends on curl3 (via wsman-cli and
- libswman-curl-client-transport1 which depends on libcurl3).
+ [FFE]
+ openwsman FTBFS with openssl. A new upstream release is required to be able
to solve this. This also requires wsmancli to be updated and built against the
newer openwsman.

[Bug 1752660] Re: python-cryptography missing cffi dependency

2018-03-08 Thread Corey Bryant
Hi Graham,

I don't think this is a dependency issue. I'm going to back out the
changes I made earlier as I pulled the trigger too quickly with those.
What would be good to know is what 'buf' is set to in your scenario.
Here's a little script that hits the same path your traceback goes down.
It runs successfully on xenial-queens for me.

from cryptography.fernet import Fernet, MultiFernet
key1 = Fernet(Fernet.generate_key())
key2 = Fernet(Fernet.generate_key())
f = MultiFernet([key1, key2])
token = f.encrypt(b"Secret message!")

Thanks,
Corey

Sorry for the lack of feedback. Is this issue still affecting you?
If so, can you please elaborate on which application you're trying to run.
Maybe run it from a terminal and share the output here? E.g.:

Can you please also share the output of the following command:

apt policy libreoffice-common

Thanks!

[Bug 1638957] Re: [MIR] http-parser, dependency of sssd

2018-03-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Description changed:

  [Availability]
Package is in universe since trusty:

  $ rmadison http-parser
   http-parser | 2.1-2 | trusty/universe | source
   http-parser | 2.1-2 | xenial/universe | source
   http-parser | 2.1-2 | artful/universe | source
   http-parser | 2.7.1-2 | bionic/universe | source

  Upstream: https://github.com/nodejs/http-parser

  [Rationale]
sssd uses http-parser in its sssd-secrets service
[https://docs.pagure.org/SSSD.sssd/design_pages/secrets_service.html], which
has a REST API over a unix socket.

The Debian sssd package has the secrets service enabled, and disabling
it in the Ubuntu package is part of the delta we carry.

The secrets service can be used as a generic key/value database for
secrets, and one of its users is a kerberos KDC via KCM (Kerberos Cache
  Manager), implemented by sssd-kcm.

sssd-secrets is unix socket activated and won't be running until there
is a connection to that socket.

The goal of this MIR is then twofold:
  a) drop a delta we have with regards to debian
  b) provide the sssd-secrets service for Ubuntu users

  [Security]
  ubuntu-security review in comment
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/http-parser/+bug/1638957/comments/9

There are still no CVEs for http-parser or libhttp-parser.

  [Quality assurance]
   * After installing the package it must be possible to make it working with a
reasonable effort of configuration and documentation reading.
It's a library and it installs without further configuration.

   * The package must not ask debconf questions higher than medium if it is
going to be installed by default. The debconf questions must have reasonable
defaults.
There are no debconf questions needed.

   * There are no long-term outstanding bugs which affect the usability of the
program to a major degree. To support a package, we must be reasonably
convinced that upstream supports and cares for the package.
There are 3 ubuntu open bugs, of which this is one, and no closed bugs. These
are the other 2 bugs:
  bug #1677865: missing dep8 tests
bug #1733554: disable a failing test, caused by new http-parser

That last bug is a bit scarce on details.

   * The status of important bugs in Debian's, Ubuntu's, and upstream's
bug tracking systems must be evaluated. Important bugs must be pointed
out and discussed in the MIR report.

- There are no open debian bug reports.
+ Debian has the same bug open regarding the failing test:

There are, as of now, 27 open issues in upstream's bug tracker:
  https://github.com/nodejs/http-parser/issues

   * The package is maintained well in Debian/Ubuntu (check out the Debian PTS)
The low number of bugs may indicate it's not used a lot, or that it's not
maintained at all.

A good number of upstream bugs have feedback.

  * The package should not deal with exotic hardware which we cannot support.
  Not the case here.

  * If the package ships a test suite, and there is no obvious reason why it
cannot work during build (e. g. it needs root privileges or network access), it
should be run during package build, and a failing test suite should fail the
build.
The test suite runs at package build time:

[Bug 1753203] Re: unable to access audio disc in nautilus

2018-03-08 Thread Sebastien Bacher
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. Unfortunately, we cannot work on this bug because your
description didn't include enough information. You may find it helpful
to read "How to report bugs effectively"
http://www.chiark.greenend.org.uk/~sgtatham/bugs.html. We'd be grateful
if you would then provide a more complete description of the problem.

We have instructions on debugging some types of problems at
http://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingProcedures.

At a minimum, we need:
1. The specific steps or actions you took that caused you to encounter the
problem.
2. The behavior you expected.
3. The behavior you actually encountered (in as much detail as possible).
Thanks!

[Bug 1752352] Re: symbolic links are blinking with byobu

2018-03-08 Thread Egmont Koblinger
Nitpicking: you enable underlined mode twice with that "4;4" in
"4;4;37". It's harmless, but will look suspicious to anyone looking at
the code. A simple "4;37" is the same.

See also comment #5 for why that 37 is a bad idea. It no longer blinks,
and looks okay with Ubuntu's default terminal colors, but is unreadable
with black-on-white color scheme.

[Bug 715141] Re: Default NTP servers do not have AAAA records

2018-03-08 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
@Paul - I wondered do we converge onto providing ipv6 on all 4 ubuntu pool
addresses?
For bug 1754358 in chrony it would be really helpful to reach an optimal
default configuration if all ubuntu pools would provide ipv6.

I'm sure you know best what is planned (or could be done), so I'd be
happy if you could let us know.

[Bug 1754012] Re: wsman dependency on older curl will cause issues in bionic for maas

2018-03-08 Thread Andres Rodriguez
So after a little investigation, the issue is that openwsman/wsmancli
have not being rebuilt against a newer version of libcurl. However,
openwsman FTBFS due to a newer version of openssl 1.11.

This requires:

1. new upstream release of openwsman patched to build with openssl 1.11
2. new upstream version of wsmancli using the newer openswman version
3. Updates in MAAS to use the new format of how wsmancli communciates with AMT.

[Bug 1754358] [NEW] Default Ubuntu configuration violates the ntp pool policy

2018-03-08 Thread ChristianEhrhardt
Public bug reported:

I was made aware by chrony upstream (Thanks Miroslav), that the current
default we have in Bionic is violating the ntp pool projects policy.

The default config has:
pool 0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst
pool 1.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst
pool 2.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst
pool 3.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst

This could be a problem as the client will use 16 servers from the
pool, which is against their policy from [1]:

So don't use more than four time servers in your
configuration, and don't play tricks with burst or minpoll -
all you will gain is extra load on the volunteer time servers.

I'd suggest to either keep only one pool line (preferrably the one
starting with 2 as it provides also IPv6 addresses), or replace "pool"
with "server".

Please note that "pool" works differently in ntpd and chronyd. ntpd
counts all servers together (their number is limited by the tos
maxclock setting), but chronyd handles each pool as an independent set
of up to (by default) four servers.

We discussed on that a bit already, mostly what would be better.

1. I thought about reading the man page at least it seems it seems that only
"pool" has the
feature of "trying different sources until it finds some working".
I'm afraid with 4 server entries that might not work as well in terms of
reliability.
But it turns out that a server specified with "server" is functionally
equivalent to a pool
with maxsources equal to 1. chronyd will try to replace it with
another address if it becomes unrechable, falseticker, etc.

2. I wondered having just one line as a pool, isn't that vulnerable to dns
attacks/outages
more easily?
That would be rare but true, so more entries might be better

3. there is one drawback of
 server 0.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst maxsources 1
 server 1.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst maxsources 1
 server 2.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst maxsources 1
 server 3.ubuntu.pool.ntp.org iburst maxsources 1

The maximum number of used IPv6 servers would be limited to one as
currently only 2.ubuntu... serves ipv6.

But the fix for that is to finally make them available as intended -
I'll bump the original bug on this.

[Bug 1754356] [NEW] xdg-user-dirs-update does not take care of $HOME

2018-03-08 Thread Treviño
Public bug reported:

[ Impact ]

When setting an user dir to a folder that is subfolder of $HOME (and
when $HOME does not match the /etc/passwd defined home for the user),
the ~/.config/user-dirs.dirs is wrongly generated.

[ Test case ]

 1) env HOME=/tmp/temp-home xdg-user-dirs-update
 2) find /tmp/temp-home/
 3) should list generated XDG user directories
 4) /tmp/temp-home/.config/user-dirs.dirs should mention them

Launching something like:
 - env HOME=/tmp/temp-home ./xdg-user-dirs-update --set DOWNLOADS
"/tmp/temp-home/sub/folder/of/it/Downloads"

Should modify /tmp/temp-home/.config/user-dirs.dirs so that it contains:
  XDG_DOWNLOADS_DIR="$HOME/sub/folder/of/it/Downloads"

[ Regression potential ]

Xdg folders could be generated in wrong locations.

[Bug 1754352] [NEW] backport some more stability fixes into libvirt 4.0 before Bionic releases

2018-03-08 Thread ChristianEhrhardt

We already did one run, but we can do another with increasing care what we
backport.
It is not SRU policy yet, but also we are post FF, so as last time really only

[Bug 1638957] Re: [MIR] http-parser, dependency of sssd

2018-03-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Description changed:

  [Availability]
Package is in universe since trusty:

  $ rmadison http-parser
   http-parser | 2.1-2 | trusty/universe | source
   http-parser | 2.1-2 | xenial/universe | source
   http-parser | 2.1-2 | artful/universe | source
   http-parser | 2.7.1-2 | bionic/universe | source
+
+ Upstream: https://github.com/nodejs/http-parser

  [Rationale]
sssd uses http-parser in its sssd-secrets service

[Bug 1754339] Re: sit0 interface created on boot, yet was not requested to be there

2018-03-08 Thread Dimitri John Ledkov
This is a huge problem for netplan with default networkd backend.

As networkd will refuse to configure devices that it did not create, and
thus if people do configure (to create) sit0, it will just not work.

This is similar, to e.g. not creating bridge0 interface.

[Bug 1638957] Re: [MIR] http-parser, dependency of sssd

2018-03-08 Thread Andreas Hasenack
** Description changed:

  [Availability]
Package is in universe since trusty:

  $ rmadison http-parser
- http-parser | 2.1-2 | trusty/universe | source
- http-parser | 2.1-2 | xenial/universe | source
- http-parser | 2.1-2 | artful/universe | source
- http-parser | 2.7.1-2 | bionic/universe | source
-
+  http-parser | 2.1-2 | trusty/universe | source
+  http-parser | 2.1-2 | xenial/universe | source
+  http-parser | 2.1-2 | artful/universe | source
+  http-parser | 2.7.1-2 | bionic/universe | source

  [Rationale]
+ sssd uses http-parser in its sssd-secrets service
[https://docs.pagure.org/SSSD.sssd/design_pages/secrets_service.html], which
has a REST API over a unix socket.
+
+ The Debian sssd package has the secrets service enabled, and disabling
+ it in the Ubuntu package is part of the delta we carry.
+
+ The secrets service can be used as a generic key/value database for
+ secrets, and one of its users is a kerberos KDC via KCM (Kerberos Cache
+ Manager), implemented by sssd-kcm.
+
+ sssd-secrets is unix socket activated and won't be running until there
+ is a connection to that socket.
+
+ The goal of this MIR is then twofold:
+ a) drop a delta we have with regards to debian
+ b) provide the sssd-secrets service for Ubuntu users

[Bug 1754169] Re: [Bionic] [wayland] Nautilus crashes when a file is opened with gedit

2018-03-08 Thread Jeremy Bicha
I cannot duplicate this bug with the X session, only with Wayland.

** Summary changed:

- [Bionic] Nautilus crashes when a file is opened with gedit
+ [Bionic] [wayland] Nautilus crashes when a file is opened with gedit

** Description changed:

  See title.

  ==Steps to reproduce==
+ 0) From the log in screen, click your name, then click the gear button and
select Ubuntu on Wayland. Log in.
  1) Open nautilus (currently 3.26.2 in bionic)
  2) Browse to a location with a textfile (eg. /home/user/.thunderbird )
  3) Right click a textfile (eg. profiles.ini)
  4) Choose gedit from the list (probably default), click ok.
  5) Nautilus crashes, gedit doesn't come up

  ==Expected result==
Nautilus doesn't crash, gedit comes up and lets you edit the file

  ==Why (probably) a gedit regression==
When choosing LibreOffice Nautilus doesn't crash and LibreOffice opens the
file.

[Bug 1754311] Re: package python-twisted-core 16.0.0-1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess new pre-removal script returned error exit status 1

2018-03-08 Thread DLPaktor
Although, I must say that forces me to freeze my default python

I would like to be able to "float" my default to the latest rev
(currently 3.6.4) without having to explicitly state a version when I
invoke it. Granted, not a terrible inconvenience, but a minor annoyance
nevertheless.

Any chance of tweaking the relevant processes (e.g., Software Updater
and the links in the apt-get ... chain) to explicitly invoke the
critical rev? I.e., where they call python and depend on the default
being frozen to python2 (or python2.7 which is where the sym-link
for python2 was pointing), have them call python2 (or python2.7 )
explicitly, and allow the default to "float".

I think that would more correctly encapsulate the version dependencies.

Thanks.

Expected Behavior:
--
The system should reboot without any problems.

Actual Behavior:

The following things are happenings:

1. It shows blank screen and stays there forever
2. It throws WATCHDOG error and stays there forever:

> systemd-journald[]: failed to send WATCHDOG=1 notification message:
Transport endpoint is not connected

3. Sometimes it works and everything is fine

Workaround:
---
The workaround for [1][2] is to hard-reset the qemu VM.

It looks like a race condition, that when it gets triggered it hits a
bug related to watchdog and reboot of the system. Note, that this bug is
**not** reproducable if you click "Try Ubuntu" at the 'welcome' screen
of the 17.10.1 ISO media. You have to actually install it and make it to
the last step of the installation, which is the restart of the system.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Tags: restart watchdog

** Description changed:

  How to reproduce:
  --
  1. Download the ISO for 17.10.1 from the official website
  2. Create a virtual-machine with qemu and load the ISO to start the
installation

Note: do a generic installation without changing any parameters (e.g. do
not download updates during the installation) but use everything in
  default.

  3. When the installation is complete, it will ask you to remove the
  media and press ENTER.
