[Bug 1766192] [NEW] [snap] cannot save file under $HOME
Public bug reported: (this was initially reported on the forum: https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/libreoffice-6-0-3-not-so-stable/5032) When trying to save a file under $HOME (not a subdirectory), the user is presented with an error dialog: --- Error --- Error saving the document Untitled 1: Object not accessible. The object cannot be accessed due to insufficient user rights. [OK] This is because libreoffice tries to create a lock file of the form: "$HOME/.~lock.Untitled 1.odt", and the home interface doesn't allow writing hidden files (those with a filename that starts with a dot) under $HOME. [Bug 1748179] Re: Save as PDF produces scrambled output
Same issue here with a Dell wireless scanner. I don't think the hardware matters, as the images are scanned fine by Simple Scan, and I can save the scanned pages individually as PNG files. But saving them in a PDF results in a file that has parts of the scanned pages overlaying each other with some transparency. These PDF files are not usable. (This used to work fine just a few weeks ago, so some update must have messed something up.) [Bug 1705743] Re: qemu-system-x86 crashes when VNC connection is established
Thanks Sergeev, that is an interesting insight. $ mkdir /tmp/service # works $ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -vnc unix:/tmp/service/vnc-sock # fails $ qemu-system-x86_64 -enable-kvm -vnc unix:/tmp/service/../service/../service/../service/vnc-sock And while these are running in another shell run: $ socat - UNIX:/tmp/service/vnc-sock Checked a few versions: Qemu 2.10.1 works Qemu 2.8.0 fails. Qemu 2.5.0 fails. A few potential fixes that come to mind, but unfortunately in Summer 2016 there were quite some rewrites int the area. So for the regression risk we should really only identify those needed and carefully review that (instead of picking more fixes along). Iused gdb on a crashing qemu and found it really is exactly what this fixes: 3e7f136d vnc: fix crash when vnc_server_info_get has an error This change is nice and clean and should address the issue. I build a test ppa at [1] which we can check later if it fixes the issue. [Bug 1766189] [NEW] cinder-volume is marked down during image uploads
Public bug reported: cinder-volume-Agent is marked as down if upload of volume needs longer than heartbeat-timeout. steps to reproduce: 1. create a big Volume (f.e. 100G) 2. fill the volume with data to avoid too fast upload 3. tell cinder to upload the volume as image 4. watch cinder-volume-agent being marked as DOWN, because noch heartbeat-update is done during upload. I already created this bug in upstream/cinder bug/1764740, but after some research I found its not happening if I build from upstream. Did further tests and it looks like the problem is caused by some kind of python module dep. problem, because if I execute pip install --system -U -r https://raw.githubusercontent.com/openstack/cinder/stable/pike/requirements.txt the bug is gone. ** Affects: cinder (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1766189 Title: cinder-volume is marked down during image uploads To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cinder/+bug/1766189/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1724441] Re: No external network access for VMs
Hi Michael, thank you for the discussion, no need to apologize - I can see your troubles and want to help. But lets dissect the different aspects of it. TL;DR: - path in qemu.conf should not matter - need to set-uid manually is wanted for security reasons - apparmor fixes exist, please chime in on bug 1754871 [2] if you think 18.04 should get that 1. apparmor to be able to use ubuntu-bridge-helper. I pushed a change upstream [3] for bug 1754871 already, that is similar to yours but more limited to what you actually need to get it working. Although this was done at a low prio and my intention was to only pick this up with Ubuntu 18.10 and I was not yet planning to backport the fix. The reason is that it is a config file change everybody can do and the number of use cases depending on it was considered very low. Although I think I could be convinced this is used more often than I thought to push the fix to the apparmor profile at least to all >= Ubuntu 18.04. I'd ask you to post on bug 1754871 if you really think we should make the apparmor change generally available. Since 18.04 is an LTS I think that would be fair. 2. set-uid qemu-bridge-helper is a bit of an ugly case, qemu.bridge-helper is considered "unwanted but sometimes needed" at best I feel. In bug 1754871 we outlined and referred to a bunch of reasons why it won'd be delivered as set-uid (not doing again here). Therefore you'd still need to add the setuid as it was considered to insecure to deliver it with setuid. 3. path in qemu.conf I think changing the path for qemu-bridge-helper in qemu.conf to be correct should be "ok", but I actually think it is not needed. At build time libvirt detects where qemu-bridge-helper is on a system (as it might differ per distribution) and it does: ... checking for sys/inotify.h... yes checking for qemu-bridge-helper... /usr/lib/qemu/qemu-bridge-helper checking for xen_vm_start in -lxenserver... no ... So if nothing is set in the config it should use this path. The path you see commented out in the config file is just an example and that way because of [1] is what it is upstream. Summary: - I think #1 is covered by the bug I referred. - #2 is intentionally staying the way it is. - And #3 should not be an issue - it would be great if you can double-check that. If you agree we can set this bug here back to invalid and you can chime in on [2] to push this to Bionic as well. [Bug 1766018] Re: grub-pc-bin not available on chroot fresh install
My fault didn't explain properly. My computer is UEFI but want to perform a MBR install to boot on legacy systems. I follow this video: https://youtube.com/watch?v=F0b4I89LY5E chroot at 12:20 grub-install at 15:30, which is where I get the error with modinfo.sh. It's fixed by installing grub-pc-bin inside the chrooted environment. I.e. it's only creating a screenshot of the shutter logo in a distorted way. I don't if that's something that can be fixed easily, but it seems Wayland (security) related.
