[Bug 1773575] Re: dual vga
mustafa: 1) Regarding crash files, you would not want to attach them, as they may contain sensitive information you don't want to reveal publicly. Instead, one may report them in a privacy respectful way via a terminal: ubuntu-bug /var/crash/FILENAME.crash where FILENAME is the name of the crash file. 2) It is advised to immediately back up your data (config files, list of what apps you have installed, etc.), so that in the event of a disaster (hardware failure, OS stops working entirely, etc.) you may perform a clean install and bring the OS back to the desired state. Stating "i do not want to lose my server configuration and reinstall Ubuntu and all the configuration and apps that i used" doesn't mean you won't have to do it. This is a matter of how prepared are you if you must. 3) Post the results of the following terminal command: history 4) To confirm a WORKAROUND, if you install the package gnome-session- flashback and login to GNOME (Metacity), does this allow you to use the GUI again? ** Attachment removed: "_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_unity_compiz-config-profile-setter.1000_copy.crash" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1773575/+attachment/5145036/+files/_usr_lib_x86_64-linux-gnu_unity_compiz-config-profile-setter.1000_copy.crash -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773575 Title: dual vga To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1773575/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1770731] Re: [nvidia] multimonitor display artifacts
Flickering ghost images may be caused by gnome-shell's damage tracking losing track of where things have been drawn, and it then uses buffer age information incorrectly, leaving junk in only one of the buffers (out of 2 or 3). So every second or third frame contains pixels that shouldn't be there, 20 or 30 times per second. I think the best way to work around it is to drag a window over the flickering area. Re: [Bug 1773575] Re: dual vga
i tried all the possibilities that i found online even to install invidia because they told me that there might help installing some important files. now it doesn't allow me to use the GUI i can use only command line. i tried many ways to restore the original drivers but i could not restore them. in windows there is something called soft system reset which reinstall the system basic files and drivers which i could not find it on ubuntu, because i do not want to lose my server configuration and reinstall Ubuntu and all the configuration and apps that i used. so if there is any future from the command line to restore the drivers or the basic files of the system without damaging my web server it would be helpful please. it might not be a bug but i can see it as bug because i tried to remove the new installed drivers and though i can not use the gui and it gives me error when i try to login with my user and pass. Could you please advise what you did precisely, in a keyboard click-for-click fashion? concerning this question i can not give you an answer because i tried many things and now i can not remember them . i tired to install amd drivers and intel and something from invidia and then tried to remove them all but the gui still give me error when i try to login . in my crash i can find the following / in the attachment/ i could not understand all the things inside the crash file thanks for the great job that you and the team doing and i hope that you can help me to solve this problem. greetings On Sun, May 27, 2018 at 7:20 AM, Christopher M. sathish, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. 1) To see if this is already resolved in your release, could you please update your HWE stack as per https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/LTSEnablementStack and advise to the results? [Bug 1773484] Re: Login screen not moved to used monitor
Manfred Steiner: To advise, this report will only be scoped to one issue. With this in mind, in this report you have noted the following disparate problems: 1) As per your Bug Description, going from 16.04 to 18.04, where the monitor the login screen and system bar shows up on changed from where the cursor the monitor is on while booting up to the main monitor. 2) As per comment #3: "but does not help the first time, when no configuration was done". 3) As per comment #3: (or it falls back to the starting situation). 4) As per comment #3, going from 16.04 to 18.04, the monitor connected through the i-tec adapter is not automatically detected, requiring you to have the connect the i-tec adapter while the displays dialog is open. 5) As per comment #3: "A second minor problem when using this adapter is a mouse flickering effect." [Bug 1773484] Re: Login screen not moved to used monitor
Question 1) Monitor is plugged in on standard VGA connector (15 pin D-Sub). I guess it does not matter which monitor type. I have done it with a Ilyama ProLite G2773HS and a Samsung Syncmaster S24B350 monitor. As soon as the monitors are configured, for example the external monitor as replacement for the built in LCD-display of a notebook, the system detects this configuration next time automatically and is switching to the proper monitor configuration, also for the login-screen. This behavior is fine, but does not help the first time, when no configuration was done (or it falls back to the starting situation). Question 2) I am using the P/N: U3DUALADA (barcode D16-00352296). Question 3) As HDMI monitor I am using the Samsung Syncmaster S24B35 Question 4) Using the i-tec adapter for the additional Samsung Syncmaster S24B350 monitor was working without any problems on Ubuntu 16.04. On Ubuntu 18.04 monitor configuration is not automatically detected. As work-arround I open the configuration->devices->displays dialog. If this dialog is open and I reconnect the i-tec adapter, the system offers now configuration possibilities. This must be done every time the adpater is connected to the system. A second minor problem when using this adapter is a mouse flickering effect. When mouse icon changes, it mouse icon disappears completely for a short time. When disconnecting the adapter system finds back to the default monitor situation without problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773484 Title: Login screen not moved to used monitor To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1773484/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

That Spanish man page comes from the manpages-es-extra package, whose description includes this caveat: "NOTE: Manpages included in this package are not up to date and there is no expectation for them to be updated in the future." [Bug 1773611] [NEW] Calamares not removed from installation; "Install System" in System Tools
Public bug reported: Lubuntu 18.10 Cosmic Perhaps it was intentional, but until now, I have never seen an installer program in an installed distro... It only was in the .iso and presumably was removed. (Of course, if the install merely removed the .desktop file from /usr/share/applications, but left the actual package(s), I might well not have known the difference...) See screenshot. Also affects distribution/package Edit Bug Description Lubuntu 18.10 Cosmic In doing a manual install, I always format the '/' root partition, but leave all others alone. Thus for all others, I kept the partition edit option at "Keep". After changing the partition for '/' to "Format", I noticed that there was no display column for "Format?" as there is for gparted, to see at a glance which partitions were to be formatted. Therefore, I went back and edited the partition, and found that the option was no longer "Format", but had reverted to "Keep". I tried several times to change it to "Format", and each time it reverted to "Keep". [Bug 1773608] [NEW] Custom partition mount point not kept with "OK"; kept with
Public bug reported: Lubuntu 18.10 Cosmic In doing a manual install, I found out that if for a particular partiton, one erases "(no mount point)" and enters a custom mount point, that if one clicks on "OK" to finish editing the partition info, nothing changes on screen, the mount point column for that partition remains empty, and if one re-edits the partition, it again says: "(no mount point)". If one instead presses after entering the custom mount point, the mount point is then shown on the screen in the mount point column, and re-editing the partition shows the custom mount point. [By the way: it is by no means obvious that one can remove the "(no mount point)" text and enter a custom mount point - one is presented with a drop-down list of possible options: "/", etc., but I only thought to try to erase the text and replace it with my own mount point because I had been used to installing with gparted, and knew that I should be able to do so, somehow...] -- $ uname -a Linux scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus 4.15.0-22-generic #24-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 16 12:15:17 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $lsb_release -dsc Ubuntu Cosmic Cuttlefish (development branch) $echo $DESKTOP_SESSION cosmic $ apt-cache policy calamares calamares: Installed: 3.2.0-1 Candidate: 3.2.0-1 Version table: *** 3.2.0-1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy partitionmanager partitionmanager: Installed: 3.3.1-2 Candidate: 3.3.1-2 Version table: *** 3.3.1-2 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status -- ** Affects: calamares (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773608 Title: Custom partition mount point not kept with "OK"; kept with To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1773608/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1773607] [NEW] Cosmic apparently not running bash
Public bug reported: I have installed the 05/25 daily of Cosmic, and when I went to run qterminal I found that: There is no prompt; There is no cursor key for history or line editing (one only gets output like: "$ ls ^[[D^[[C^[[A^[[B" ) If there is an error, one gets something like: "$ auvcg /bin/sh: 3: auvcg: not found " I assumed at first that it was a qterminal problem, so I installed my usual sakura, and had precisely the same symptoms. Since it is extremely unlikely that somehow both programs would suddenly have the same bug (both having functioned correctly for me in the past), it must be something outside each, that is common to all terminals. The /bin/sh seemed to be a clue, as I was almost positive that the usual shell script program was bash. If one runs bash in the terminal, one gets one's prompt back and history and line editing function again. However, one needs to call bash for each terminal program and each instance that one is invoked. I have been unable to figure out where bash is supposed to be called, (presumably upon login) or I would have compared that location/file with my primary install or previous ones, to see where they differ. scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus:~$ uname -a Linux scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus 4.15.0-22-generic #24-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 16 12:15:17 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus:~$ lsb_release -dsc Ubuntu Cosmic Cuttlefish (development branch) cosmic scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus:~$ echo $DESKTOP_SESSION Lubuntu scott@scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus:~$ apt-cache policy lubuntu-default-settings lubuntu-default-settings: Installed: 1.3 Candidate: 1.3 Version table: *** 1.3 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ** Affects: lubuntu-default-settings (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Attachment added: "qterminal screenshot before and after bash invocation" https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773607/+attachment/5144982/+files/Terminal_No_Bash.jpg -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773607 Title: Cosmic apparently not running bash To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-default-settings/+bug/1773607/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1773597] Re: USB flash drive won't mount
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1773597/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1365874] Re: Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, 14.04 LTS, 16.04 LTS do not support ext4 metadata checksumming
I would like to test this configuration in my laptop with a slow rotational disk + a small SSD: https://raid6.com.au/posts/fs_ext4_external_journal_caveats/ But, if I understood correctly, I need to configure journal_async_commit for it to be reliable, and that option automatically enables journal_checksum, that it's not available in the current e2fsprogs version that ubuntu 16.04 has...am I missing something? [Bug 1773597] Re: USB flash drive won't mount
This bug occurred on a Dell Studio XPS. It also occurred on an Alienware machine - both fairly old, perhaps 8 years. The Alienware machine was at the same software level as the Dell Studio XPS. On the Alienware machine, occasionally after some time (say five minutes). With an encrypted drive, the drive might appear (or not), but access was iffy - with the system asking multiple times for the password, but almost never granting access. When access was granted, access to the files was eventually terminated - the directory window in Nautilus eventually showing no files. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773597 Title: USB flash drive won't mount To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1773597/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1773581] Re: [Samsung NP900X3G-S01US] Horizontal lines after update to 4.13.0-43
The instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/MainlineBuilds don't seem to work anymore for recent kernels: Unpacking linux-modules-4.17.0-041700rc6-generic (4.17.0-041700rc6.201805202330) ... dpkg: dependency problems prevent configuration of linux-headers-4.17.0-041700rc6-generic: linux-headers-4.17.0-041700rc6-generic depends on linux-headers-4.17.0-041700rc6; however: Package linux-headers-4.17.0-041700rc6 is not installed. linux-headers-4.17.0-041700rc6-generic depends on libssl1.1 (>= 1.1.0); however: Package libssl1.1 is not installed. dpkg: error processing package linux-headers-4.17.0-041700rc6-generic (--install): dependency problems - leaving unconfigured So unless someone can advice how to install a recent mainline kernel on 16.04 I cannot test with a more recent kernel. Looking at the source code diffs between 4.13.0-41 and 4.13.0-43 my guess is that it is a regression introduced by https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux-oem/+bug/1763271 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773581 Title: [Samsung NP900X3G-S01US] Horizontal lines after update to 4.13.0-43 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1773581/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1773594] [NEW] Selecting install device not reflected on subsequent page
Public bug reported: Lubuntu 18.10 Cosmic I have a second hard drive whose contents I have been looking through lately. This is designated sda (plus the full description, of course). My main hard drive is designated sdb. On the page where one selects the type of install, one is given the choice of which device the install should be placed. This defaulted to sda. I changed it to sdb, selected Manual Install, and clicked on Next. The Manual Install page showed two places where one has a choice of devices: 1 for the location where the install should go (again) 2 for where the boot loader should go. Both of these showed sda, despite the fact that I had selected sdb on the previous page. I went Back to check to make sure I had actually selected sdb, and I had done so. If one selects a particular device on the Type Of Install page, that device should be the one the two select-boxes on the Manual Install page should default to. Naturally, one might change one's mind and wish to install on a different device, and one might possibly decide to have the boot loader on a different device from that on which the install is placed, but those cases would be far less likely than to assume that both should be on the device chosen on the Type Of Install page. -- $ uname -a Linux scott-Asus-M2N68-AM-Plus 4.15.0-22-generic #24-Ubuntu SMP Wed May 16 12:15:17 UTC 2018 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux $lsb_release -dsc Ubuntu Cosmic Cuttlefish (development branch) $echo $DESKTOP_SESSION cosmic $ apt-cache policy calamares calamares: Installed: 3.2.0-1 Candidate: 3.2.0-1 Version table: *** 3.2.0-1 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status $ apt-cache policy partitionmanager partitionmanager: Installed: 3.3.1-2 Candidate: 3.3.1-2 Version table: *** 3.3.1-2 500 500 http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu cosmic/universe amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status -- ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.10 Package: calamares 3.2.0-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-22.24-generic 4.15.17 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-22-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.20.10-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: LXQt Date: Sat May 26 17:45:08 2018 SourcePackage: calamares UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) ** Affects: calamares (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Tags: amd64 apport-bug cosmic -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1773594 Title: Selecting install device not reflected on subsequent page To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/calamares/+bug/1773594/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
