HI, I have Gigabyte ab350n wifi m/b and 2400g cpu. Dual booting has been
an issue but I found that the booting process identified 8 compute units
but it appeared the kernel wasn't accepting the count so 'rcu_nocbs=03"
placed on kernel load line in grub improved later part of initiation. (
The 0-7 parameter dids not work for me)

[Bug 365305]

2018-06-09 Thread Nate-b
Hello!

This bug report was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-support
status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been almost
completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it is
likely that this bug is already resolved in Plasma 5.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this bug report.
If the issue described here is still present in KDE Plasma 5.12 or
later, please feel free to open a new ticket in the "plasmashell"
product after reading
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that
future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham

I experienced the same issue on my ThinkPad T450s running Kubuntu 18.04

Adding kernel parameter "psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=0" as described

[Bug 1776044] [NEW] nvidia-340 crashes display in 18.04 Bionic when no Nvidia GPU present

2018-06-09 Thread Duncan Greatwood
Public bug reported:

Upgrading to 18.04 (Bionic) desktop on a machine running 17.10 (Artful)
and originally installed with Xenial 16.04. Previous release (and other)
upgrades had gone without issue.

Run the installer, upgrades to 18.04, and reboots.

Instead of returning to graphical Ubuntu login prompt, booting starts
but gets stuck in a state where the screen is flashing every few seconds
between light grey and black.

After various experimentation, discovered that the graphical login prompt would
return as wanted if I did:
sudo apt-get remove nvidia-340

Note - the machine has Intel graphics, HD Graphics 630 (rev 04).

Why was nvidia-340 ever installed? I believe I setup this machine by
exporting a package list from another machine that DID have nvidia
graphics and then importing it (via synaptics package manager) to the
machine in question.

I believe that nvidia drivers have been installed for all the earlier
Ubuntu releases, but only in 18.04 did they cause an issue.

I tested this theory on another machine with Intel graphics running
18.04, and sure enough installing nvidia-340 broke the graphical login
prompt on reboot - and removing nvidia-340 fixed it again.

[Bug 62291]

2018-06-09 Thread Nate-b
Hello!

This feature request was filed for KDE Plasma 4, which reached end-of-
support status in August 2015. KDE Plasma 5's desktop shell has been
almost completely rewritten for better performance and usability, so it
is likely that this feature request is already implemented in Plasma 5,
or is no longer applicable.

Accordingly, we hope you understand why we must close this feature
request. If the requested feature is still desired but not implemented
in KDE Plasma 5.12 or later, please feel free to open a new ticket in
the "plasmashell" product after reading
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved/Bug_Reporting

If you would like to get involved in KDE's bug triaging effort so that
future mass bug closes like this are less likely, please read
https://community.kde.org/Get_Involved#Bug_Triaging

Thanks for your understanding!

Nate Graham

** Description changed:

  Hello,

In Ubuntu 18.04 there is a serious bug that manifests itself when
switching between users. This is not every time, but often. When I try
to switch to another user, after entering the password, I get a clean
screen, there are no calls to the hard drive. The computer is reset by
  the reset button.

  Thank you.

[Bug 1776002] Re: Bug when switching between users

2018-06-09 Thread SYN-2009
Unfortunately I do not know the name of the package. If an error occurs,
no proposals are sent to send the report. I described it as I see it. I
can add that at the same time there arises a message that authentication
is not passed, although the password is entered correctly. In earlier
versions of ubuntu this did not happen. I gave Launchpad.net the license
for 1 week.

Thanks for reporting this. I can confirm it with ibus-mozc and
LibreOffice. Same problem with ibus-libpinyin. (I think I only tested
with gedit, where it works, before making the change...)

Even if Wayland is not default in Ubuntu 18.04, this regression is too
serious to be acceptable. I'm going to reverse the change.

Thanks again!

Avoiding / as btrfs, and using it just for e.g. /var/lib/lxd, may be an

[Bug 1701047] Re: Renaming of conf file fails

2018-06-09 Thread Gunnar Hjalmarsson
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
The fix of wasn't accomplished properly.
Renamings of conf files weren't addressed in maintainer scripts, upgrades from
previous versions fail in this respect, and the package system generates
warning messages.

The problem has been reported in Debian, and the purpose of this bug
report is to keep track of the progress.

  [Justification]
This config file is broken in xenial and will still be broken on upgrade to
bionic, which means the fonts in question will not be available to the system
as intended if the user has upgraded.

+ [Test case]
+ For each of
+ - fonts-beng-extra
+ - fonts-deva-extra
+ - fonts-gujr-extra
+ - fonts-guru-extra
+ - fonts-orya-extra:
+
+ * Purge the package if installed and clean up possible leftovers
+ due to the issue.
+
+ * Install the Xenial version of the package and find that the symlink
+ in /etc/fonts/conf.d incorrectly points to a directory.
+
+ * Install the version in bionic-release and find that the attempt
+ to fix the issue fails
+
+ * Install the version in bionic-proposed and find that it fixes the
+ issue and that the symlink now correctly points to the conf file.
+
  [Regression potential]
Because this modifies maintainer scripts there is possibility of introducing
a regression that will cause the package to fail to unpack.

dmesg with Linux 4.13.3

On Dell Venue 11 Pro 7140 average power consumption in idle increased by
1.3-1.5 times due to events coming from INT343A. According to powertop
since Linux 4.10 INT3432:00 generate around two hundred events on
average, in /sys/devices/pci:00/INT3432:00/i2c-6 there is two
devices: INT343A and SMO91D0. AFAIK INT343A is rt286.

With Linux 4.9.0-4.9.45, Linux 4.11.0-4.11.12 in idle there is around 100
wakeups per second in sum, battery discharge rate around 3-3.5 Watts per second.
But with Linux 4.9.46-4.9.51, Linux 4.10.0-4.10.17, Linux 4.12.0rc1-4.13.3 -
around 300 wakeups per second on average, due to events coming from INT3432:00.
With Linux 4.13.3 battery discharge rate around 4.5 Watts per second.
Probably some commit was backported to Linux 4.9 between .45 and .46 releases.
I have no idea why issue is not reproducible on any Linux 4.11 release I tried.

Sometimes events rate fall from two hundred to one hundred for shorts
period of time (for example I observe this right now on Linux 4.10.0
while removing/installing packages).

Message like this sometimes appear in dmesg:
[ 731.226730] i2c_hid i2c-SMO91D0:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report
(53/13568)

Complete dmesg with Linux 4.13.3 is attached.

However, should there be any issue I am of the opinion that this source

[Bug 1776029] [NEW] Installer should not display "Install Now" when it's not the last step

2018-06-09 Thread Bump
Public bug reported:

See attachments. On step 2/3, when disk encryption is enabled, you enter
the security key, and says "Install now". However, clicking on that
button takes you to drive selection to install the distro, which shows
also "Install now" and this is actually the good one.

Please fix.

[Bug 1774417] Re: systemd-logind: do_ypcall: clnt_call: RPC: Unable to send; errno = Operation not permitted

2018-06-09 Thread Johannes Reimann
Hello everybody,

I just wanted to add that this bug does not only causes 25s long login times,
but at least for Xubuntu also causes that:
- users authenticated via nis are unable to play sound, because pulseaudio (in
non-system mode) doesn't list any sound cards besides the dummy device
- users authenticated via nis are unable to mount usb-harddrives via thunar
because of missing permissions

[Bug 1761554] Re: [bionic] Extended characters in GNOME screen keyboard don't get entered

2018-06-09 Thread Nicolas Schmitt via ubuntu-bugs
I feel like the update im-config 0.34-1ubuntu1.1 bugged out ibus-mozc on
Wayland.

I'm getting crashes in LibreOffice---and in some other applications
(Gnome shell search bar), the candidate window is not showing up. It
was definitely working at some point before this update.

Could be that I'm wrong about this update causing this, I'm not really
sure ... Someone else experiencing similar issues?

[Bug 1767122] Re: duplicity Errors 199 at end backup

2018-06-09 Thread Kenneth Loafman
Yes, read the man page and pay attention to the 'cleanup' and 'remove-*'
commands. With
$ duplicity cleanup --force "
you can clean out any partial backups taking up room. With
$ duplicity remove-all-but-n-full 2
you can remove all but the last two backup sets.

You should be able to tailor this to your backup disk size and backup
plan.

2018-06-09 Thread Jaroslaw Ilgiewicz
@pHeLiOn - I think you are the only one who can do the kernel bisection - you
have the hardware that doesn't work. It's not hard just follow Kai-Heng Feng's
commands. You got the message "E: You must put some 'source' URIs in your
sources.list" because you didn't enable source packages in your sources list.
You can do this in Software & Updates application, first tab.
You can find how to do bisection here:
https://git-scm.com/book/en/v2/Git-Tools-Debugging-with-Git
It is really easy.

[Bug 1776013] [NEW] systemd-networkd: DHCP lease lost (Ubuntu 18.04)

2018-06-09 Thread Wladimir Mutel
Public bug reported:

I have a Linux router whose external Ethernet interface is configured from
ISP's DHCP server.
After its migration from Ubuntu 16.04 + ifupdown + isc-dhcp-client to Ubuntu
18.04 + netplan.io + systemd-networkd, I noticed that systemd-networkd plays
overly fairly when it can not get a timely renew response from ISP's DHCP
server: it honestly removes the dynamic IP from the interface and restores
(often the same) IP only when ISP's DHCP server gives it a proper response
again. Which causes 1..5-minute pauses in Internet availability since my ISP's
DHCP server is for some reason flaky, i.e. it can become unresponsive for some
periods of time. I never noticed this problem with isc-dhcp-client, and started
noticing it only after migrating DHCP client role to systemd-networkd.
The question is, can I (or you) make systemd-networkd DHCP client behave more
relaxedly ?
I know that most DHCP clients (isc-, pump, dhcpcd) at some stage of their
development decided to implement such relaxed logic, i.e. to keep
last-configured dynamic IP on the interface despite the lack of responses from
DHCP server. As this is easier to implement than to make ISP staff fix their
services, I would suppose there should be some knob in systemd-networkd
settings. Or, at least, an idea to implement something similar in the future.

Dear Thadeu,
I tested your patch and it seems to be working well
on my i386 system it reduced initrd from 8.1 to 2.9 MB
but does it have a chance to be integrated into Ubuntu 18.04 Bionic ?
Or I should wait for Ubuntu 20.04 ?
Now it is not even integrated into Ub. 18.10 Cosmic

[Bug 1775056] Re: package wine (not installed) failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/wine-stable', which is also in package wine-stable 3.0-1ubuntu1

2018-06-09 Thread jre
Hi,

thanks for your report, Fabio. This is caused by the transition from
the old Ubuntu Wine packages to Debian's src:wine. Now in stage two we
have to rename wine-stable back to wine. In a too optimistic naivety I
had hoped that we don't need breaks/replaces for this - despite some
positive tests it seems I was wrong. I've got no idea why it works for
some people/package managers), but not you(rs).

Anyway, attached patch should fix it. It lets pkg:wine break/replace
the real (non-transitional) pkg:wine-stable.

Ubuntu folks, please test and upload a fixed version of src:wine to
cosmic.

If this works, I will add it in Debian until 20.04 is released, so that
you can continue syncing wine again.

Greets
jre

2018-06-09 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1776002/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

[Bug 1776005] Re: kernel instability with BTRFS filesystem as rootfs

2018-06-09 Thread Sylvain Calador
** Description changed:

  Hello,

As explained yesterday on #ubuntu-kernel, several laptop won't boot
(kernel panic) with the latest kernel 4.4.0-127-generic (x86_64) and
upper (proposed 4.4.0-128-generic), on Xenial 16.04 LTS

I have made many tests to verify that the bootloader (GRUB) is correctly
configured (I have also reinstall it, but same result).

I have also verified the BTRFS system is clean and not corrupted (with a
  livecd).

The behavior is unpredictable, because often the kernel fall in "panic"
during boot, but not all the time, if i do several consecutive reboot to
test stability of the boot "process". I have no search behavior with
- previous kernels (like 4.4.0-127-generic).
+ previous kernels (like 4.4.0-124-generic).

I suspect (even if I'm quiet disturbed by this behavior, maybe I wrong) that
something I changed on last kernel:
  - on BTRFS subsystem, I have "aggregate" BTRFS partitions as rootfs (for a
long time)
  - something related with the last mitigation about the recent security
processor breach

But my skills stop here, and I'm not able to find the origin of this behavior
despite my efforts.
I can continue my investigation if I have some additional pointers.

  Thanks for your time,

  Sylvain
