[Bug 1767445] Re: Uninstalled snaps show most recent channel version, not version to be installed by default
SRU verification for Xenial: I have reproduced the problem with gnome-software 3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.10 in xenial-updates and have verified that the version of gnome-software 3.20.5-0ubuntu0.16.04.11 in -proposed fixes the issue. Marking as verification-done ** Tags removed: verification-needed verification-needed-xenial ** Tags added: verification-done verification-done-xenial ** Description changed: [Impact] GNOME Software can show incorrect version of snap that will be installed on details page. [Test Case] - 1. Open GNOME Software. Ensure blender snap is not installed. - 2. Select blender snap (tried 28-04-2018, may change if store versions are changed) + 1. Open GNOME Software. Ensure blender or spotify snap is not installed. + 2. Select blender or spotify snap (tried 28-04-2018, may change if store versions are changed) Expected result: Version label shows version to be installed (stable channel by default) Observed result: Version label shows most recently uploaded version, i.e. from the edge channel. This is not the version that will be installed when clicking install. [Regression Potential] The logic around choosing which version value to show was changed. Could create other bugs with this data. Orignial text: Ubuntu Software, when showing metadata about a snap package, is most of the time, likely to get information which is misleading, since it shows info from the *most recently* uploaded snap, regardless of which channel the snap was uploaded to. An example of this is to search for blender, and see that the version shows the edge channel - 2.80-4de142e0b7b and not the stable channel - 2.79. After actually installing the application, the correct metadata is shown. [Bug 1777994] [NEW] the header xcb/xinput.h is missing
Public bug reported: I suspect this means there should be another package, libxcb-xinput-dev perhaps? I already did sudo apt install "libxcb*dev" to get all related dev packages, but none of them provide xcb/xinput.h. The result is that when building Qt from source, it's necessary to use a copy of this file which Qt provides (qtbase/src/3rdparty/xcb/include/xcb/xinput.h), because it's missing from the system. So if you don't give the option -qt-xcb to configure, then Qt will be built without multi-touch support. https://bugreports.qt.io/browse/QTBUG-69045 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04 Package: libxcb1-dev 1.13-1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 4.15.0-23.25-generic 4.15.18 Uname: Linux 4.15.0-23-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: zfs zunicode zavl icp zcommon znvpair ApportVersion: 2.20.9-0ubuntu7.2 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: ubuntu:GNOME Date: Thu Jun 21 08:32:12 2018 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: bionic DistroVariant: ubuntu GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation UHD Graphics 620 [8086:5917] (rev 07) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Lenovo UHD Graphics 620 [17aa:3802] Lsusb: Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0003 Linux Foundation 3.0 root hub Bus 001 Device 004: ID 0cf3:e300 Atheros Communications, Inc. Re: [Bug 1777620] Re: failure during install. not this package is broken
Ok. Its dificult to say. I have installed Ubuntu 18 twice now (for different reasons and different versions) and both times the installer crashed. The shim-signed package and grub gave me problems. I had to boot into 16 again and run the update-grub and again boot into 18. Then after removing and installing shim-signed and grub-efi packages with apt-get it runs. I thought I was booting in UEFI mode... but I guess not... I guess you can close the bug since I lack the debugging information, unless you have an idea how to check this? [Bug 736743] Re: environment block not implemented on btrfs
This same issue bit me using 18.04. I think this should really be reclassified as an installer bug. Ubuntu has known for many releases that a single btrfs root partition does not work properly. The installer should warn people when they use a single partition that is btrfs that grub cannot write to it and you may want a separate ext4 /boot partition to avoid problems. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/736743 Title: environment block not implemented on btrfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/grub/+bug/736743/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1777378] Re: [nvidia] GDM no longer presents GUI login Ubuntu 18.04
I believe I have found the culprit. Not happy to say that it looks like it was a configuration change I made to try to fix the ubiquitous screen-tearing and frame synch problems that some applications have. I *believed* I had reverted all the changes I made when I saw they hadn't fixed the issue, apparently I missed one. Oddly, the machine had booted up into a proper GDM session several times since that attempt. In any case, I went back over my research and double-checked anything that we hadn't already covered and found an article about adding a zz-nvidia- modeset.conf file in the modprobe.d folder. This had one working line in it: "options nvidia_drm modeset=1" Once commented that line out and updated initramfs the machine was able to make all the way into the full GDM session again. I am very sorry to wasted your time on this problem that was obviously due to an oversight on my part. ** Changed in: nvidia-graphics-drivers-390 (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1777378 Title: [nvidia] GDM no longer presents GUI login Ubuntu 18.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers-390/+bug/1777378/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1777966] [NEW] I get a notification error saying "Error:BrokenCount>0", after running "sudo apt update && sudo apt dist-upgrade" even though a manual check for broken packages yielded no results.
Public bug reported: Immediately after installing Ubuntu 18.04, I rebooted the machine, logged into admin account, configured software update to enable the Canonical partners repository, opened Terminal, and ran "sudo apt update && sudo dist-upgrade" Upon installing all packages, an error notification appears on the menu bar saying "Error:BrokenCount>0'. This usually means that your installed packages have unmet dependences" When I clicked on Check for Updates, nothing happened. I went to run "sudo apt install -f", 0 packages were installed or trained. This indicates that the error was falsely flagged and therefore a bug. Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install Ubuntu 18.04 2. Boot into the admin account on a Xorg session 3. Open Terminal and run "sudo apt update && sudo dist-upgrade" 4. Notice that an error notification appears on the right of the menu bar on top Rebooting the machine fixed the issue, but this bug should not happened immediately after running Ubuntu for the first time and checking for updates via Terminal. The timestamp for the issue itself is Wednesday, June 20, 2018, at around 9:30 PM, EDT. 1) Ubuntu 18.04 2) apt Installed: 1.6.1 3) Error notification is absent because no such error happened; all the dependencies and packages are properly installed. 4) I get a false error saying "BrokenCount>0" even though searching for broken packages yielded no results. in response to [Phillip Susi (psusi) who wrote: It looks like the problem is either a bad sd card, or a bug in the kernel] I tried the install again, this time with a different SD card (same brand and type). The situation was a bit different because the first two times the SD card was not partitioned before the install but this time there already was an existing partition with data that I wanted to preserve. The third install attempt I requested that the existing partition be made smaller and a new partition be created with the remaining space for lubuntu. This also crashed install but with a different error. See attached screenshot showing the "Assertion failed" message. Also - after the third failed install I was left in desktop / demo mode so I was able to run apport-collect. I may have actually run the apport-collect twice. Joseph Salisbury asked if this was an attempted update or upgrade. No, fresh install. This computer presently runs windows 10. I am attempting create a dual boot with an install onto the SD card of lubuntu 18.04 (via booting from USB). Joseph Salisbury asked if I can try the latest upstream kernel. I've not tried that yet but I will, Probably won't be today though. [Bug 1396379] Re: installer uses first EFI system partition found even when directed otherwise
Some more info. I never perform automatic installs/partitioning, it’s always 100% manual. I selected the EFI system partition from the Windows drive and marked it as “Do not use partition”, selected the new EFI system partition I created for Ubuntu and marked it as “EFI system partition” (which is equivalent to mounting it to /boot/efi, and note that all partitions used by Ubuntu are on a drive that’s meant only for Ubuntu) and selected the proper drive (which contains the EFI system partition to be used) on the “Install bootloader to” dropdown. Therefore, manual partitioning does not solve the issue.
