[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-08 Thread Rodrigo M. R. Avila
#50 : Another workaround besides the 'haveged' is 'rng-tools5'. I've
booted through kernel version(4.15.0-23), installed the package 'rng-
tools5' (because my processor supports it - intel 3rd generation or
newest) and now i'm able to boot kernel 4.15.0-24 again.

[Bug 1780622] [NEW] Audio outpt doesn't match what's selected

2018-07-08 Thread Bret Ancowitz
Public bug reported:

18.04 Ubuntu Budgie
3.28.1 per software center?

I have three sources of sound output: Laptop speakers, USB headphones,
and speakers plugged into an external monitor via displayport. On boot,
for example, the headphones are listed as the output source in the
settings menu, but sound is actually going to the displayport speakers.
If I click the speakers, then back to the headphones, all is well. This
often happens on boot or after resuming from sleep or lock. Thanks!

Works for all application, as far as I can tell.

But it does not work for Gnome Calculator. Middle-clicking brings only up the
old window.
I workaround by using the Terminal: gnome-calculator&

[Bug 1780620] [NEW] Atril search: only results of one page...

2018-07-08 Thread Goth Queen
Public bug reported:

Concerns: Atril pdf document reader
version: 1.20.1

With the recent roll out of Xubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver) the previous
pdf document reader evince was replaced by Atril.

When conducting a search in Atril:
* Atril searches the whole pdf document
* Atril presents the search term that was found FOR THE CURRENT PAGE ONLY
* Atril does not show the other occurrences of the search term in the rest of
the document.

In comparison (with evince 3.28.2):
* evince also searches the complete document.
* evince presents all found occurrences of the search term in a side panel,
which can be clicked by user for easy navigation and review.

Clearly, the latter is default behaviour...

 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1780619] [NEW] Financial mode doesn't work...

2018-07-08 Thread Goth Queen
Public bug reported:

With the roll out of Xubuntu 18.04 (Bionic Beaver), devs decided to
replace the original gnome-calculator with mate-calc.

Using mate-calc, user will notice that the basic financial mode (so
calculating) does work. However, contrary to gnome-calculator the
"immediate" conversion of (the selected) currencies does not work.

Concerns: mate-calc
Version: 1.20.1

P.S. On a side note: the "history" window with previous calculations,
which is present in gnome-calculator, but not in mate-calc, is missed
dearly.

[Bug 1763090] Re: Dependency alternative to openjdk-8-jdk missing

2018-07-08 Thread Andreas Schildbach
Just tested fdroidserver 1.0.8-3 from Cosmic on Bionic and it seems to
work! No further dependency upgrades necessary as far as I can tell, all
deps were satisfied by packages from Bionic.

Disks works as expected, allowing me to delete and create partitions.

Once a new partition was created on a USB drive I was able to format it
using NTFS.

[Bug 1703479] Re: Ubuntu 17.04 & Kubuntu 17.04 LiveCD writes to bios/hardware clock; thereby messing up my installed Windows 10 Pro laptop time

2018-07-08 Thread David Balažic
This also happens with 18.04.

 - have hw clock on local time (other timezone than UTC+0)
 - have a working ethernet connection (DHCP, with internet connection)
 - boot ubuntu-18.04-desktop-amd64.iso from a DVD (boy, does it takes it's
time...)
 - optionally reboot into Windows
 - check time: it is set to UTC in HW clock, which means wrong clock in Windows

Sorry, I forgot this: Is there a boot option I can set to change this

This has been the advice since day 1. It's obviously not what many want.
I'd expect that someone at Canonical might have a better chance at spurring
communication between GRUB and BTRFS than a mere end-user.

[Bug 1770082] Re: systemd-networkd not renaming devices on boot

2018-07-08 Thread Nicorac
Partially working here on fully updated Ubuntu 18.04 Server on
VirtualBox :(

I've enabled -proposed repo and updated both nplan/bionic-proposed and
netplan.ion/bionic-proposed packages.

Now interfaces got renamed, but IPs are not assigned at boot (both DHCP and
static ones).
Calling "netplan generate && netplan apply" after boot only sets the static IPs
while DHCP still remains unset.

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-08 Thread Kurt Smolderen
The kernel provided in the proposed channel does not solve the issue for
me. I also encounter the described boot issue in -23, -24 and -26
kernels. A workaround for me is using lightdm as display manager instead
of gmd3.

What was proposed in this thread and didn't work for me:
* Installing havegd (verified for -23 and -24 kernels)
* Installing -26 form bionic-proposed
* Booting directly to -23 (without havegd)
* Adding a spinning disk during boot in -24, or -26 (not sure whether I also
tested this one in -23)

I'm testing this on an HP ProBook 5320m (CPU: Intel Core i3 M350). This
system does not have a dedicated GPU so I doubt it is caused by Nvidia
cards directly as suggested before.

The 10.1 series update for 18.04 is now available.

Please use git-buildpackage to fetch and build from the ubuntu-18.04
branch at https://salsa.debian.org/mariadb-
team/mariadb-10.1/tree/ubuntu-18.044

The repository uses pristine-tar, so there is no need to separately
download the sources. You can just check the signature/SHA1SUM directly
from the git-buildpackage generated tarball.

Test builds and testsuite passed on all platforms at
https://launchpad.net/~mysql-ubuntu/+archive/ubuntu/mariadb-10.1/+builds?build_text=_state=all

Debdiffs can be created directly from the repo like in a local clone
with 'git diff .. debian/'

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-08 Thread Charles Burns
Participating in bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gdm3/+bug/1779476 for the last
couple of days.

Clevo barebook W540 pentium 3805U 1.90G onboard graphics BroadwellGT1 single
ssd, intel Wless 3160, only hardware hanging off it is a usb wireless mouse.
Had indefinite hang begin with update to Ubuntu-offered *-24 kernel.
A fair amount of keyboarding and mouse wiggling (average 90s) is needed to wake
the process up again.
Holding the SHIFT key speeds up the boot to an acceptable delay.
Once into Gnome, networking is also fairly retarded (average 45s) and sometimes
needs UI operation for the Net Manager to do its usual auto connect to its
secure network.
Installing haveged stopped the hang. Network also appears to be more
responsive, but this can
be masked by the flaky operation of our el-cheapo wireless router. Using a usb
dongle which emulates etho appears to deliver much more reliable network start.

Booting into *-23 stopped all symptoms - haveged not needed.
Booting into the dev channel *-26 returned the hang and added a few display
artefacts to the plymouth/Gnome handover process. Zero networking delivered in
Gnome, not even a UI for Net Manager.

Hanging a portable WD 1TB spinner off the laptop USB3 port returned a
good boot time into Gnome with the *-24 kernel without haveged
installed. Networking was however delayed variously between 60s and at
one boot appeared to need UI input to wake the hardware up to the secure
connection already in the Net Manager's list, even though Net Manager
could immediately see other networks around the place.

Reverting now to *-23 kernel for the week's work.
Hope these naive reports were in any way useful.

[Bug 1780606] [NEW] NetworkManager not able to manage WWAN devices in 18.04 server

2018-07-08 Thread Aleksander Morgado
Public bug reported:

Installed a 18.04 server image, and installed NetworkManager.

NetworkManager comes with a "/usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-
managed-devices.conf" file where it speciefies that all devices are by
default unmanaged except for types "wifi" and "wwan".

Now, the problem is that the filter should apply to "gsm" or "cdma"
types, not "wwan".

E.g.:
  [keyfile]
  unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:wifi,except:type:gsm,except:type:cdma

Before the change:
$ nmcli d
DEVICETYPE STATE CONNECTION
wlan0 wifi connected Bumbu
eth0 ethernet unmanaged --
cdc-wdm0 gsm unmanaged --
loloopback unmanaged --

After the change:
$ nmcli d
DEVICETYPE STATE CONNECTION
wlan0 wifi connected Bumbu
cdc-wdm0 gsm connected cell
eth0 ethernet unmanaged --
loloopback unmanaged --

[Bug 1740973] Re: Two front mics can't work on a lenovo machine

2018-07-08 Thread madbiologist
Thanks Hui. It looks like you found a few more Lenovo machines that
need this fix.

As well a going into the currently under development 4.18 kernel, the
new patch is in the 4.17.4 kernel:

commit 11a74cf5d322b899c95a1544e4ed85b5712babc1
Author: Hui Wang
Date: Mon Jun 25 14:40:56 2018 +0800

ALSA: hda/realtek - Fix the problem of two front mics on more machines

commit e41fc8c5bd41b96bfae5ce4c66bee6edabc932e8 upstream.

We have 3 more Lenovo machines, they all have 2 front mics on them,
so they need the fixup to change the location for one of two mics.

Among these 3 Lenovo machines, one of them has the same pin cfg as the
machine with subid 0x17aa3138, so use the pin cfg table to apply fixup
for them. The rest machines don't share the same pin cfg, so far use
the subid to apply fixup for them.

Fixes: a3dafb2200bf ("ALSA: hda/realtek - adjust the location of one mic")

[Bug 1776155] Re: Touchpad detected as SYNA3602, does not work at all.

2018-07-08 Thread Reffman
Maybe the problem is the same (Ubuntu kernel not detecting the touchpad
correctly), but the touchpads are different models, and so ubuntu
responds differently to them.

There are people who have had trouble with the Ubuntu kernel driver not
resetting the touchpad on boot because of the touchpad behaving slightly
differently than the driver expects. That may be the same issue I'm
facing, but it's hard to know exactly.

[Bug 1779827] Re: failure to boot with linux-image-4.15.0-24-generic

2018-07-08 Thread AlwaysTired
Mine is a Toshiba Satellite Z30-A-1E9 laptop with a single SSD. I tried
booting with the 4.15.0-26-generic kernel now with an external HDD
attached, and still couldn't boot - I waited for more than 3.5min and it
was still stuck on the "before the ppp link was shut down" message, so I
switched to lightdm then it booted within ~15s without the external
drive.

[Bug 1780600] [NEW] Hostname and clock not visible in login panel in Lubuntu 18.04

2018-07-08 Thread Ravi Kumar
Public bug reported:

I am using Lubuntu 18.04. On login screen, Hostname and clock are not
visible in panel at top. The labels for these 2 indicators are shown but
they kind of look like disabled although when checked in LighDM GTK+
Greeter Settings, they are defined in panel indicators.

** Affects: lightdm-gtk-greeter (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 1780598] [NEW] grub does not allow to specify recovery-only kernel options

2018-07-08 Thread YS1
Public bug reported:

In /etc/default/grub are two variables that enable customization of
kernel options : GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT for non-recovery entries and
GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX for all entries (both recovery and non-recovery).

It is not possible to specify kernel options to be used for recovery
entries but not regular ones, which in my case is problematic as
modesetting parameters are at a contradiction in those cases.

I propose that the GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_RECOVERY variable would allow to
do so. This requires exporting this variable in the grub-mkconfig
script, so that it can be read by the 10_linux script.

There, I propose to keep the usual behaviour when the variable has not
been set, and to completely eschew it when the variable is set.

I am reporting here as it appears that upstream grub 10_linux does not
have a mechanism for recovery entries at all, so I think it is Ubuntu
specific.

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 18.04
Package: grub-common 2.02-2ubuntu8 [modified: usr/sbin/grub-mkconfig]
Architecture: amd64
SourcePackage: grub2

** Affects: grub2 (Ubuntu)
