[Bug 1778486] Re: x86/kvm: fix LAPIC timer drift when guest uses periodic mode

2018-08-15 Thread Markus Schade
If I'm not mistaken, the fix has been released with the latest kernel
update that was pushed for the L1TF issue. So this bug should be "fix
released"

[Bug 1787267] Re: Can't type | ( pipe ) over vnc

2018-08-15 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
That key actually exists on my german keyboard :-)

It would be:
< - no modifier
> - with shift
| - with right alt (also called alt-gr)

I'd not at all see why your setup goes for a EU keyboard mapping in your
setup, but you might try "right-alt + ".

Qemu doesn't "do" anything there except passing through.
I'd more assume that might be an option of your VNC client, did you upgrade the
system the VNC client is on as well at the same time?

[Bug 1787270] Re: vnc won't accept remote connections

2018-08-15 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
Hi Phillip,
I assume you mean this section:

host:d
TCP connections will only be allowed from host on display d. By convention the
TCP port is 5900+d. Optionally, host can be omitted in which case the server
will accept connections from any host.

It does in fact work as the man page says, you need to know that the
base address for vnc is 5900, so setting just colon sets
5900+ and in fact binds to all IP.

Example:
$ qemu-system-x86_64 -vnc :7

Then from netstat -eeapn:
tcp0 0 0.0.0.0:59070.0.0.0:* LISTEN
1000 261323929113/qemu-system-x

You see it is bound on 0.0.0.0:5907 from 0.0.0.0:*, which seems exactly
what the man page talks about.

Does it behave differently for you?

2018-08-15 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected bionic

** Description changed:

  Hi,
I see this issues since 4.15.0-32-generic, but I have this particular
smb/cifs setup for only a few weeks now, so it might after all by chance that I
started to see it with this particular kernel.

It seems that about any activity in regard to a mount that I had working
for a few days - mounted on monday, played music from it most of each
day, today is thursday - triggers this fault now.

  - tab completion into the dir
  - ls in target dir
  - umount the mountpoint

Sometimes the tools do not immediately crash, but hang.
In that case they are on wchan "wait_for_response.isra.9"

The logs on the NAS (Synology DS418+) have no entries, the last is me
mounting it via smb/cifs.
Related FSTab entries are not too unusual other than making sure we have the
new safer version of the protocol used:

[Bug 1787326] [NEW] lbaas-dashboard references "Key Manager API Guide: Creating a Certificate Container" which does not seem to be the correct title of guide or section

2018-08-15 Thread Yuko Katabami

While translating, I found the following string:
Key Manager API Guide: Creating a Certificate Container

If this is meant to be pointing
https://developer.openstack.org/api-guide/key-manager/containers.html#certificate-containers,
the title of the guide and the section title need to be corrected.

[Bug 1787324] [NEW] Snap policy module denies recording access to classic snaps

2018-08-15 Thread James Henstridge
Public bug reported:

With the recent updates to the snap policy module, recording access is
denied to clients with a snap AppArmor label when that snap doesn't have
a connected plug for "pulseaudio" or "audio-record".

This is not appropriate for classic confinement snaps, which will have
an AppArmor label but should still have access to recording even when
there is no plug, as described by @jdstrand:

https://forum.snapcraft.io/t/pulseaudio-recording/6361/14?u=jamesh

This is broken with the 1:12.2-0ubuntu2 release, as can be seen with
e.g.:

$ aa-exec -p snap.skype.skype /usr/bin/parecord foo.wav
Stream error: Access denied

[note that the Skype app itself still functions because it bypasses
PulseAudio all together]

The above command should result in audio being recorded from the
microphone.

** Affects: pulseaudio (Ubuntu)

[Bug 1785033] Re: GRUB needs to support 64-bit efi linear frame buffer address

2018-08-15 Thread Ivan Hu
** Description changed:

  [Rationale]
- More firmwares support above 4G mmio configuration and the EFI Graphics
Output Protocol can return a 64-bit linear frame buffer address have been
implemented in some firmware/BIOS. Grub2 currently only pass 32-bit framebuffer
base to kernel. The Linux kernel has already added support to handle 64-bit
linear framebuffer address in the efifb driver now. So GRUB2 should support
64-bit EFI linear frame buffer address.

  [Impact]
- Some machines block booting with firmware/bios implemented 64-bit EFI linear
frame buffer address, since Grub pass the incorrect (only 32-bit) EFI linear
frame buffer.
+ Some machines block booting with firmware/bios implemented 64-bit EFI linear
frame buffer address, due to Grub passing incorrect(only 32-bit) EFI linear
frame buffer.

  [Test cases]

  Need Bios/Firmware support,
  1) Make sure the machine with the Bios implemented 64-bit EFI linear frame
buffer address. some machine need to enable above 4G mmio on bios setup menu.
  2) Boot up.

  [Solution]
A patch has been committed and accepted by maintainer

http://git.savannah.gnu.org/cgit/grub.git/commit/?id=886edba8770ccbc3def0af2a7d6b346d00d0af2f
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ Minimal, it's unlikely completing the whole framebuffer address will affect
those which hasn't used above 32-bits framebuffer address.

[Bug 1784638] Re: Merge latest Open-vm-tools from Debian and check if we can go for 10.3

2018-08-15 Thread  Christian Ehrhardt 
This is the summary mail from VMWare.
It is an install or install/upgrade test with a check of the services having
valid connections to the hosts they are using.
It sounds like only a bit, but I know we had on the initial tests quite some
errors flagged which implied that there are deeper checks on the services.

Quoting:
"Hi Christian,

open-vm-tools 10.3.0 from -proposed [3] works well in Ubuntu 18.04
destkop, ubuntu-18.04-server-amd64 and ubuntu-18.04-live-server-amd64.

Check from -proposed [3] in Ubuntu 18.04 destkop:

install open-vm-tools
install /uninstall open-vm-tools-desktop
tools service and VGAuth service are running when install open-vm-tools
tools service and VGAuth service are running after install and reboot guestOS
uninstall open-vm-tools 10.3.0
 Check from repository deb http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu
bionic-proposed main restricted multiverse universe

In ubuntu-18.04-server-amd64 and ubuntu-18.04-live-server-amd64:

install / uprade open-vm-tools
tools service and VGAuth service are running when install / upgrade
open-vm-tools
tools service and VGAuth service are running after install and reboot guestOS
uninstall open-vm-tools 10.3.0, tools service and VGAuth service are gone after
uninstall tools
best regards

Yuhua Zou"

That said, the agreed check by VMWare is done, setting verified.
To know sort of an ETA, Łukasz set a longer than 7 day aging time, but I'm not
sure what we want to go for - 14 days then?

[Bug 1783129] Re: Only "main" component enabled after install

2018-08-15 Thread Michael Hudson-Doyle
There are several things I don't understand here.

One of them is what changed after June 10. The sources.list you pasted
was clearly generated by cloud-init, not by livecd-rootfs or subiquity
or curtin or anything else. So for some reason, on June 10, cloud-init
rewrote sources.list either when the ISO booted or when the installed
system booted.

Another thing I don't understand is why this breaks the daily install
test for cosmic only; only main is enabled in bionic too but the tests
pass there. Have some of utah's deps dropped out to universe in cosmic?

A final thing I don't understand is how to fix this. I think we need to
set PREINSTALLED=true during the livefs build's config step, but I don't
know what other consequences this would have.

[Bug 1727356] Re: Login screen never appears on early generation Intel GPUs (Core2 and Atom etc)

2018-08-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
1. If you have applied the workaround at the top of the bug then you
won't hit it any more.

2. If your system is experiencing a crash in the eglnative (Wayland)
code on startup then it will automatically fall back to using Xorg and
you will never hit this bug.

3. Finally, if you are subscribed to the wrong bug (ie. you don't use a
Core2 or Atom CPU) then your issues was something different and might
have been resolved elsewhere.

[Bug 1785033] Re: GRUB needs to support 64-bit efi linear frame buffer address

2018-08-15 Thread Anthony Wong
** Description changed:

  [Rationale]
- More firmwares support above 4G mmio configureation and the EFI Graphics
Output Protocol can return a 64-bit linear frame buffer address have been
implemented in some firmware/BIOS. Grub2 currently only pass 32-bit framebuffer
base to kernel. The Linux kernel has already added support to handle 64-bit
linear framebuffer address in the efifb driver now. So GRUB2 should support
64-bit EFI linear frame buffer address.

  1) Make sure the machine with the Bios implemented 64-bit EFI linear frame

  2) Boot up.

[Bug 1787194] [NEW] On inserting page numbers, instructions are disobeyed

2018-08-15 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

1- In UBUNTU 18.04,inserting page numbers does not work. I selected: insert-
field - more fields, then selected "Page" in the "Type" list under the document
tab, following I selected "next page" in the select list. Then, whatever I
select from the format list I Just get the last selection printed in the field
of page number The last selection was "next page", thus I got these words
printed but no page numbers. I don't receive error messages.
I still have Windows10 , on my lab but I rarely use it. I an stopping windows
update. Meanwhile, I get UBUNTU regular updates and currently my UBUNTU soft
ware is up to date.

2- In printing any document, I must put the printer off first choose
what is to print and click OK then starting the printer. In the
meantime, only one job is printed after all this. Normally the first
clicked job. I have "Printer" and "Printer settings" software. Here also
I don't receive error messages.

[Bug 1787309] [NEW] zed not sending mail on scrub finish

I did get the mail so the mail system work.

still correct?

2018-08-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thanks. Next, please reproduce the problem and then in the virtual
console run:

  journalctl -b > journal.txt
  dmesg > dmesg.txt
  dpkg -l > dpkgl.txt

Now return to the graphical session and send us the files 'journal.txt',
'dmesg.txt' and 'dpkgl.txt'

[Bug 1786261] Re: strongswan ipsec fails to finish connection (hangs after installing DNS server via resolvconf)

2018-08-15 Thread Erich E. Hoover
I am having a similar problem, but I have some additional tidbits:
1) I had the same issue after upgrading from 17.10 to 18.04, but before
rebooting
2) I have the same problem if I downgrade all the strongswan/charon packages to
5.5.1-4ubuntu2.2
3) First connection attempt after reboot does not always work
4) "sudo service strongswan restart" has some probability that the next
connection attempt will work, but no guarantee

I think there's a good case to get rid of those Conflicts:, at least for
the package combinations that make sense. BIOS+EFI definitely makes
sense, IMO.

[Bug 1787277] Re: gdm3 freezes then locks out user after upgrade from 16.04 to 18.04

2018-08-15 Thread Daniel van Vugt
After reproducing the problem, reboot, log into a VT and please:

1. Run:
journalctl -b-1 > previous_boot.log
   and send us previous_boot.log

2. Look in /var/crash for crash files. If you find any then please run:
ubuntu-bug YOURFILE.crash
on each. Then tell us here what they were named and what the new bug IDs (if
any) are.

[Bug 1787251] Re: No sound devices after booting 4.15.0-32-generic

2018-08-15 Thread Tyler Hicks
@Dean I'm still pretty stumped about this bug. Nothing in the changes
seem very relevant.

Could you attach the files resulting from the following two commands?

$ lsinitramfs -l /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-31-generic > /tmp/lsinitramfs-31.txt
$ lsinitramfs -l /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-32-generic > /tmp/lsinitramfs-32.txt

[Bug 1787304] [NEW] HP Bluetooth Printer Pairs but Stays Disconnected

2018-08-15 Thread Free Beachler
Public bug reported:

I have an HP Deskjet 460 with BT module. This printer was working via
Bluetooth in Ubuntu 16.04, but now fails to connect in Ubuntu 18.04.

In Ubuntu 16.04 I was able to use this doc to setup the printer:
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BluetoothPrinterSetup. However, this
doc is now outdated for Ubuntu 18.04 since "hidd" is unavailable.

I've tried the info contained in these links to no avail:
-
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1020257/bluez5-cannot-connect-to-a-paired-bluetooth-device-on-ubuntu-17-10
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1036195/bluetooth-doesnt-work-after-resuming-from-sleep-ubuntu-18-04-lts?rq=1
- https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1748565
-
https://askubuntu.com/questions/1037370/ubuntu-18-04-bluetooth-device-disconnects-right-after-connect-on-lenovo-p50

* I did try to "update bluez to >=5.28.2"
* I did try to "restarting bluetooth service"
* I did not try "removing btusb module"

Further advice in the above links did not help.

In 18.04 I can remove the device using the Settings->Bluetooth UI. Then
the Deskjet 460 S/N XXX appears as "Not Set Up". Then I can double-
click on the device, and it briefly shows "Connected", then
"Disconnected". Now the device is in the Settings->Bluetooth UI, and
when I double click the device it shows "Connection Off", Paired Yes,
Type Printer, and the MAC address. I'm unable to change the "Connection
Off" setting via the UI.

Please un-nominate bionic. That's a mistake.

I meant to only nominate xenial.
