[Bug 1783873] Re: auto-type user and password not working (too fast?)

2018-11-02 Thread Martin Wildam
Sorry for the delay.

@Christophe Perrot (krys74): I don't have more than one keyboard layouts. So if
you find this to be an issue in your case then you have a different problem
than me. However, I tried with editor and retried posting user name and
password a lot of times - always with correct result.
In my tests I found out that in Firefox on sites where I did not decide yet
whether to save passwords or not on this site (you see the key symbol on the
left next to the url) then on tab somethings looks like to steal the focus for
a moment and of course that may then consume a posted character before the
password field gets the focus.

However, on other sites where I already decided to never save passwords,
the issue also occurs. These sites are sometimes a little slow in
reaction due to a lot of javascript stuff that wants to run (some stuff
is prevented by Adblock plus and NoScript).

@Dominik (burnin2leo):
Yes, it must be some timing issue - thanks for the tip with the delay! That
works like a charm! Thumbs up - you made my day! On one site that always has
the issue a delay of {DELAY 500} was sufficient.

2018-11-02 Thread Martin Wildam
When I switched over to Ubuntu 18.04 I also switched hardware to a much
faster one. So really that can be the reason why I did not have the
problem earlier.

I was not aware of the fact that there is such a thing like the {DELAY
500} autotype command. This is fully sufficient for me!

[Bug 1801421] [NEW] lqxt-config-monitor saved altered display resolution triggers display fade to black after system startup

2018-11-02 Thread Menno den Hollander
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce (verified on clean Lubuntu 18.10 install):
- Launch lxqt-config-monitor
- Alter display resolution, accept resolution
- Save configuration
- Restart pc
- Wait up to one minute

What happens:
- The display fades to black (Approximately 10 sec after showing the desktop
background)
- (System is still reachable via the network (samba))

What should happen:
- Display shouldn't fade to black almost immediately after start-up

Workarounds:
- Don't save altered resolution, but set it each time manually on start-up
- Deleting the saved setting and restarting the PC doesn't make the issue
appear again.

No problem,
the just come alonge with each other...so DP idle in dmesg and "change
/devices/pci:00/:00:02.0/drm/card0" with "$ udevadm monitor"

I think it has something to do with the add and remove of additional DP4
to DP6 connectors (udev reports this). This seems to trigger something
in X that is interfer with i915 prepare :(. And as the nvidia card goes
through the intel one its harmed too. But i am not that familiar with

[Bug 1801418] [NEW] uvtool uses wrong image type for xenial/arm64

2018-11-02 Thread dann frazier
Public bug reported:

I can't tell if this is the same root cause as bug 1765668 - if it is,
please feel free to dup.

I'm able to launch/boot bionic/arm64 guests in disco, but not xenial. I took a
look as to why, and it appears that we are using the wrong base image. arm64
requires UEFI images. While UEFI is the default image type for arm64 in bionic,
it wasn't in xenial. xenial had a "special" uefi image:

http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/xenial/current/xenial-server-cloudimg-arm64-uefi1.img

Indeed, if I overwrite my disk image with this one, it boots fine. Well,
fine until I hit bug 1797092 - but that's another story :)

Yup, I have a package that uses node and requires libssl-dev and
libcurl-openssl.

It was rather jarring when it stopped building because of the update to
node.

If you're saying that Ubuntu is not suitable for developing proprietary
software that uses node, libssl, and libcurl, well, I guess that's
interesting and surprising news.

[Bug 1801415] [NEW] Enlarging icon view within a folder changes desktop icon size also

2018-11-02 Thread jimlovell777
Public bug reported:

If you open a folder and change the view from list to icons and then
hold CTRL and zoom in, the size of the icons on the desktop change as
well. Zooming in while using the list view does not affect the desktop
icon sizes. To me this is a bug and not desirable behavior but if it's
just a matter of preference and not a bug please let me know.

I understand that these packages are not coinstallable. That is not per se
a requirement for -dev packages in Ubuntu.

What is your use case for these packages being installed together?

If it's to provide a single host environment where separate software
components build-depending on each of nodejs-dev and libssl-dev can be
built, that is not sufficient rationale for changing the current behavior.
The workaround is for each software component to be built in its own
separate environment with the -dev packages that it requires.

If you have a single software component which you are trying to build, which
is implemented in node and uses libssl, then it should be built against
libssl1.0-dev since that is the version compatible with nodejs-dev in
bionic.

If you have a single software component which is implemented in node and
also must build against another library which depends on libssl-dev, then
and only then should we evaluate changes to the -dev packages to support
this.

In our analysis of the archive for the previous SRU, we did not identify
any packages in the Ubuntu archive which fell into this last category, but
there may be some other software out there which wasn't found in our search.

[Bug 1799767] Re: ASUS Z170-A, shim 15+1533136590.3beb971-0ubuntu1: grub menu not showing with both SecureBoot and CSM enabled after update

2018-11-02 Thread Steve Langasek
Could you please test the following:

- boot with CSM disabled
- run sudo mokutil --set-verbosity true
- reboot to the firmware and enable CSM
- boot Ubuntu
- report here any messages that appear on the console at boot time (take a
picture and upload, or transcribe, etc)

After this, you can run 'sudo mokutil --set-verbosity false' to restore
the previous behavior.

[Bug 1730924] Re: Wifi does down "crash" in Surface Pro 4

2018-11-02 Thread P.I.Julius
Hi Guys,

I'm suffering this same problem on Surface Pro 2017 and would really
like to find a solution as using Linux is the only option for me to not
throw it out through the window as it has a corrupted memory an so can
only use Linux which allows me to skip the affected area using memmap.

Unfortunately this problem forces me to reboot around 10 times a day
with light usage so it makes it hard to enjoy the tablet.

Googling found this case and would like to attach the core dump from
/sys/class/devcoredump maybe it will be helpful, also can duplicate it
pretty easily so if help is needed re testing I'm here and finally would
also offer a $100 reward for a solution if I may, I know its not that
much but as gesture of appreciation hopefully it will be received with
kindness.

Thank you guys in advance for the work on this!

Regards,
Julius

[Bug 1769495] Re: [snap] Chromium snap should ask for "removable-media" interface

2018-11-02 Thread Ratchanan Srirattanamet
@jara981

First, "removable-media" is not an auto-connected interface. You have to
connect it using:

snap connect chromium:removable-media :removable-media

Second, I'm not sure how snap determines if a drive is a removable drive
or not, but I guess mounting it with fstab might not be expected by
snap. Try mounting your drive via file manager.

[Bug 1799710] Re: 18.04->18.10: update-manager don't show upgrade page

2018-11-02 Thread Brian Murray
** Description changed:

  [Impact]
do-release-upgrade checks to see if you have all available updates installed
before allowing you to upgrade to the next release, however it doesn't take
into account phased-updates subsequently it forces you to install updates which
are under phasing (or have stopped phasing) before upgrading. This is not ideal
as updates have stopped phasing for a reason and may end up negatively
affecting your system before the release upgrade.

  [Test Case]
- 0) Ensure that there are updates with a Phased-Update-Percentage of 0 use
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/phased-updates.html as a guide.
+ 0) Ensure that there are updates with a Phased-Update-Percentage of 0 use
http://people.canonical.com/~ubuntu-archive/phased-updates.html as a guide.
  1) Install all available updates for your release using update-manager (which
respects phasing)
  2) Run 'do-release-upgrade',
'/usr/lib/ubuntu-release-upgrader/check-new-release-gtk', and 'update-manager
-d'
  3) Observe a message re "Please install all available updates"

with the version of ubuntu-release-upgrader from -proposed following the
actions in step 2 should allow to upgrade to the next release of Ubuntu.
+ N.B. If it doesn't make sure you disabled -proposed after installing
+ ubuntu-release-upgrader-gtk!

[Regression Potential]The patch is pretty straight forward and it'd be
hard for it to cause a regression. One should confirm that there are
phased updates available by running 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' and
observing that there are packages available to install which update-
  manager won't.

  Hello,

I want to upgrade to 18.10.
So I start update-manager GUI then update some packets.
At End it ask me if I want to upgrade. I answer Yes.
  But update-manager close. Nothing happens.

I run it under terminal and get this message:
Please install all available updates for your release before upgrading.

Why GUI don't show this before close?

[Bug 1799767] Re: grub menu not showing with SecureBoot enabled after update

2018-11-02 Thread frank
Dear Steve,

thanks for your reply. When you wanted me to apport-collect 1799767 once
more, shim-signed wasn't installed because I had mad some experiments to
solve the problem by myself. So I installed it again to do apport-
collect 1799767 once more, but the effect is still the same.

And to clearify that: When I enable CSM in BIOS there is no secure boot
but when I disable it, I have secure boot. And as a news: I tried the
day before yesterday to set CSM to "auto" and SecureBoot is working with
that configuration as well. Only setting to "CSM=enabled" the system
doesn't boot in secure mode.

You asked if I am sure, that it was "shim-signed 1.37~18", but I can not
tell, because normally I do not look at the details, when an update will
be installed. I just install it when Update-manager means i should. I
trust Ubuntu in that point.

I normally install the updates close to the time when they are
published. Maybe some days later.

special action has been taken otherwise)
not match the one provided by upstream, so it needs to be changed.

How do you mean? The previous SRU of nodejs was specifically intended to
address the issue of binary compatibility with upstream.

[Bug 1801404] [NEW] Macbook air, 18.10, fn keys to set keyboard backlight do not work

2018-11-02 Thread Xavier Gnata
Public bug reported:

The F5/F6 keys used to work to set the keyboard backillumination level
with 18.04 but they do not work anymore with 18.10 4.18.0-10-generic

The back illumination can be turned on with : echo 255 >
/sys/class/leds/smc\:\:kbd_backlight/brightness but not anymore with the
Fn keys.

I'm not sure if it is a kernel issue or a keyboard mapping / X issue.
Which test should I run to try to figure out where the problem is?

Could you please clarify what it is you're trying to achieve?

If this is about coinstallability of two unrelated stacks of -dev
packages, that is not something we are going to make changes in the
stable release of Ubuntu in order to support.

If this is about some piece of software requiring both libssl-dev and
libssl1.0-dev to be installed at build time due to transitive
dependencies, we could reconsider whether to make changes to the
packaging to support this for specific situations (i.e., reverting my
"wontfix").

We would not do a wholesale update of nodejs in SRU to the version
upstream represents is compatible with OpenSSL 1.1; so the status of the
bug tasks for that package remains correct.

[Bug 1799710] Re: 18.04->18.10: update-manager don't show upgrade page

  [Test Case]

- [Regression Potential]
- The patch is pretty straight forward and it'd be hard for it to cause a
regression. One should confirm that there are phased updates available by
running 'sudo apt-get dist-upgrade' and observing that there are packages
available to install which update-manager won't.

There are actually two issues:
- the one you just talked about (using openssl 1.1.1)
- the NODE_MODULE_VERSION advertised by ubuntu or debian does not match the
one provided by upstream, so it needs to be changed.
